Beyonce loves to break records!
The sexy songstress recently made magazine history as she was chosen for People en Espanol’s “50 Most Beautiful” issue. She’s the first non-Hispanic to be selected.
Other big names making the list include Ricky Martin, Mario Lopez, Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayek and Ugly Betty star America Ferrera.

How did Beyonce get in on this? SHe isnt Hispanic. I thought that was only for hispanic people … Im not being judgementle or anything, but I just dont get it :\
Yes she does!!
Beyonce is the Hottest hispanic I’ve ever seen.
c’mon everyone bring the Beyonce hate.
Regardless black or hispanic… Beyonce is a real star. The camera does love her, you know.
I like Beyonce but having her in that list to me its just insulting the hispanics. Thats what I think and Im hispanic. Im pretty sure no magazine that just for black people would like a white or hispanic on there magazine. Thats what I think so dont judge me!
Jesus te doy la razon con Beyonce en el punto de que no se que hace ella ahi, pero decir que Penelope Cruz no es hispana…
What that makes to sense. What the hell is the point of even doing the 50 most beautiful Hispanics if they aren’t ALL f*ucking HISPANIC?????????
Yeah, that is kinda weird. To put Beyonce on a most beautiful hispanics list. If at least she was extraordinarily beautiful & they just couldn’t resist including her then I might be able to understand. But Beyonce is not that hot. In fact, if it wasn’t for all that make up & those extensions she’d look quite bad. I’m not hispanic but I’m still offended by this.
Jesus you need to know history. the moores rule Europe for 700 yrs. the moores were black from africa. ever heard the name hanibal? so all you spanish ppl who are decendants from spain have the black blood running through you weather you like it or not. Scicily same thing . the moores was the ones who brought european into the light.
WHAT A BUNCH OF IGNORANT HATERS! WHAT DOES IT MATTER THAT SHE IS BLACK? HOW MANY OF US LATINOS ARE “BLACK.” OR DON’T YOU KNOW YOUR ROOTS! NOT ONLY IS SHE BLACK AND BEAUTIFUL BUT MULTITALENTED TO BOOT! SHE CAN SING IN SPANISH ALOT BETTER THAN ALOT OF YOU WRITTERS CAN EXPRESS YOURSELVES. TAKE SOME TIME AND LOOK INTO YOUR OWN AFRICAN ROOTS, WE LATINOS ARE LIKE LIFE SAVORS, WE COME IN ASSORTED FLAVORS. THIS, FROM A LATINA THAT KNOWS HER ROOTS!
I am not Latina but I think that People en Espanol is wrong for placing Beyonce on the cover or even including her in the 50 most beautiful Hispanics, and I am black. Just as it is for blacks, it is even harder for the Latina celebrities to get the attention they deserve without it being over shadowed by a non-Latina celebrity. I mean that is like Ebony celebriting the 50 most beautiful black people and they add someone of another race in the picture, even thou all races have been featured in this magazine but to say that is what you are going to give me I expect to see nothing different than what you sold me on. Just my personal opinion.
I wonder how the other nominees truly felt about her presence at the photo shoot.
Whatever, as much as I like Beyoncé, I personally feel she used up a spot that could have gone to Charlie Sheen or Christina Aguilera, heck, even Cameron Diaz! They’re more hispanic/latino than Beyoncé will EVER be. How in the world can this HCTIB be on the list and SHAKIRA isn’t???? This is a bunch of BS!
I can’t believe I am saying this but Jared you need to brush up on your historical education. For one thing Penelope Cruz IS not Hispanic either she is a Spaniard she is a European. So Penelope just like Beyonce are not hispanics. Hispanic means Spanish speaking from the Americans. I also want to point out to Jared yes there are black people that come from Spanish speaking countries that could call themsleves “Latinos,” Have you guys never been to Cuba or Brazil or Dominican Republic? Why are some people so ignorant? Did you not know that Sammy Sosa, Zoe Saladana and Alfanso Ribero and Pedro Martinez are black latinos? Just because a person is black does not mean the person isn’t Latino. Latino is NOT a race it is a CULTURE.
Just to play devil’s advocate, but the cover doesn’t say “Los 50 Mas Bellos Latinos”… it says “Los 50 Mas Bellos.” I know that People en Espanol caters to the Spanish speaking audience but I don’t think that ever exclusively meant that they were including those native to Spanish speaking countries or those who descend from folks from Spanish speaking countries.
Two years ago, Ryan Cabrera was on this list. Granted, he has Colombia in his lineage, but still…
Beauty is beauty, regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, or color…
Andrea:
There is a difference between “Latin American” and “Hispanic.” Hispanics are those who derive from Spain - thus, the inhabitants of all Spanish-speaking countries, including Spain, are regarded as Hispanics. However, a Latin American individual is one who was born in a country that is located in the Americas/Western Hemisphere whose primary language is derived from Latin, such as Spanish or Portuguese. Penelope Cruz, for example, is in fact a Hispanic; yet she would not be classified as a Latin American. You may disagree with this explanation, but I should know since I was a Spanish major and am of Mexican origin.
just to clarify, on beyonce’s rerelease of b-day she recorded music in spanish and the guy on the cover is alejandro fernandez, who she does a duet with for the musical theme song for a soap opera based on el zorro. i think that is why she is on the cover of this magazine. besides it doesnt say the 50 hottest latin/hispanic stars….it just says the 50 most beautiful.
Sorry, you are wrong. Hispanic refers to the people of the Americas and not Spain. The term derives from Hispanola, the name for the island that houses Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The last time I looked Spain is a part of Europe. Penelope Cruz, Antonio Banderas are European and not Hispanic. My family is from Honduras. I am surprised that Beyonce is on there but for as others have said, a lot of Latinos are of African descent. Latino or Hispanic is a culture and not a race.
I believe its called People Espanol for the reason its a magazine for the most beautiful latinos. Sorry as nice and beautiful as Beyonce is her spot belongs to a hispanic not to her..
The magazine is dedicated to the latino community now it has sold out…
That is a disservice to the latinos that should have had her spot.
BET magazine would never give any spot that rightfully represented the black community to a hispanic or white person on the most beautiful list.
Had this been a magazine dedicated to the mainstream diversity then it would seem okay but as i mentioned..it is dedicated to latinos and should not be short changed. BET.. JET and other black magazines would never stoop so low as to replace one of thier beautiful people with something that did not represent their culture. What just because Beyonce does a record with shakira does not give her an automatic hispanic billing.
People Latino is a sell out. I m going back to the more reputable mags that rknow how to REPRESENT!
beyonce does not belong on the cover nor does she belong on the list. It is very clear its a latinos list. For that matter lets start putting Mariah Carey on the cover..
Beyonce does not represent the latino community. sorry girl but they dropped the ball on this one..
How would you respond if that had put selma hayek on the BET cover or on the Cover of Ebony…these magazine are clearly representing thier culture…
Seems to me people espanol is letting People gringo run thier show.
too bad..
wowowowowwo I like the green dress
Look i’m black and latino myself and i agree. Beyoncé doesn’t belong to this list. How about Zoe Saldana, Christina Millian, they are latino. Being latino is more then an album. I’m sorry but i totally agree.
Can I yell ” you racists!” ?
I don’t believe thi!s! Beyonce??? when is this ***** dieing anyway… ugghhh im so sick of her untalented ass she looks like a run over- over weight Chihuawa and she sings like a cat thats being choked uuuuggghhh… Someone should stop her father from calling all his big shot pals for favors such as this!.. Can you believe she also made No.1 on Askmen.com as the most desirable woman??? are people BLIND???
She should be on every list. She’s amazing in everything she does.
It’s not the 50’s most beautiful hispanics..it’s just a list from People en español….I don’t know if there’s any brazilians on it..but last year there was Juliana Paes and Rodrigo Santoro..and we, brazilian, are not hispanic since we don’t speak spanish.
It’s obvious they try to list only hispanic plp but that’s not the point of the list.
Beyoncé is one of the most beauitful women out there and she deserves to be on every list of this type.
You folks are plain ridiculous! So the english People magazine chooses people of all walks of like in their 50 most beautiful - Americans or non Americans, whites blacks etc. Should they not?
Also, magazines like Essence magazine are known to choose Latino actresses in their hottest list.
As a matter of fact, BET had the 25 best dancers in African-American history and Shakira was one of them. I think she was top ten if I am not mistaken!
The African-American community has had a long relationship with the Latino community because Latino does not exclude black.
The Latino race is a mixture of Native American, European and African. I can’t believe how narrow minded some of you are on this subject.
FYI Jared: I think the correct term politically is Latino not Hispanic, per a lot of my Latino friends.
Here is a list of BET (Black Entertainment Television) ’s list of top 25 dancers of all time.
Three Latinas made it!!!!!: Rosie Perez, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira.
So you see the African-American community has NO problem including Latinos in their compilation lists because the African-American community recognizes its connection to the Latino culture and vice versa.
BTW, Celia Cruz could have been on this list and she was black but Latina. The two are not mutually exclusive people!
Your ignorance is sad.

Essence Communications , Inc. (ECI) is out to capture the essence of African-American culture through publishing, fashion, and entertainment. The company publishes “ESSENCE,” which is geared toward African-American women and has a monthly circulation of more than one million. The company owns a stake in “Latina,” a bilingual publication aimed at Hispanic women in the US.
+++++++++++++ Actually, Essence Magazine basically LAUNCHED Latina magazine - the first widely distributed fashion mag in the US targeted to Latinas.
So you see, People en Espanol may have put ONE African-American non-Latina on their cover but Essence has been responsible for giving Latinas their own magazine for years where they get to be on covers every month!
So get over it all of you!
A Certain Smile:
You may be correct about youur definition of “hispanic.” However, if you refer to Wikipedia, you may acknowledge that the term means:
“Hispanic” specifically refers to Spain, and to the Spanish-speaking nations of
the Americas, as cultural and demographic extensions of Spain. It should be
further noted that in a U.S. context, a Hispanic population consists of the people
of Spain and everyone with origins in any of Spanish-speaking nations of the
Americas, regardless of ancestry of the latter.
So as you can see, Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas are indeed “hispanics.”
