Blake Lewis Rocks Jon Bon Jovi
American Idol contestant Blake Lewis sang his own remixed rendition of Jon Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name” with a whole lot of beatboxing. Here’s what the judges said:
- Randy said, “Most original version of a song on American Idol… That was hot.”
- Paula said, “This was amazing.”
- Simon said, “Half the audience will hate it, half will love it. I think it was the right thing to do. Massive risk. This is what’s going to keep you in the competition next week.”

I’m just extremely impressed. I’ve never watched a full episode of American Idol until last night (and by that, I mean I’ve never watched more than a few seconds). I heard of Blake and his Bon Jovi remake, but it wasn’t until the tail end of the show was in the very beginning of a DVR recording of House I was watching that I actually caught a clip of him singing, and was immediately drawn to him. Watched the end of last week’s episode, and had to see this week’s.
To be fair, I prefer male vocals in general. So I might be a bit biased in that sense, but he truly is a talented musician, a real artist. I was expecting the Bon Jovi song to just be him singing the song, and at first, was a little put off by his beat boxing, as I was always a fan of the original. However, he did it well. Really, really, really well. I can’t imagine it being better worked into a song like that.
For those of you saying he disgraced rock… eh. Disgraced the show? You haven’t a clue what the show is about.
Best singer in America? I doubt it. But Blake is truly an American Idol.

i love you so much blake lewis , I thought you did an awesome job, It was my favorite song by Bon Jovi. you really made it more fun and you really rock my world. I wanted to let you know that you are my favorite american Idol contestant.
