Ziyi’s dress seemed to ve slipped down an inch or 2, the waistline hanged low as a result & the dress didn’t seem “fit”so to speak but her smile was great!!

Zhang Ziyi is so not pretty and is so over-rated. To us Asians, she’s such a norm face. Never liked her pretentious self. The model is of course better.

I think the dress looks better on model. For Zhang Ziyi, the dress is a bit too long for her, the bottom half did not have that flowing effect as it’s shown on model. But nice smile though…….
I really don’t care for this dress, but I think it looks better on Zhang Ziyi. IMO

Zhang Ziyi wears it better, both due to the black shoes and smile! The model’s shoe color is like 2-day-old puke and why DOES she look snippy anyway?
ITA #16!!! Besides, Lil presumes to speak for ‘Asians’, I find that actually kinda pretentious. If she doesn’t like Zhang Ziyi, then fine, but please, no need to validate herself by claiming to speak for ‘other Asians’. It would be easy to find other Asians who do like Zhang Ziyi, just like it would be easy to find those who ‘hate’ her, even though it’s based probaly on preconceptions anyway. At least the ones who ‘like’ her are most likely doing so because of her work, i.e. her movies.
To speak the truth, Ziyi does has a bad bad reputation in China…………mainly because of her attitude. Beside, she is not counted as extremely pretty in the eyes of most Asian. However, she is one of the rare Chinese who can make her path to Hollywood. On this point, I respect her.
Anyway, I like the model on the dress, it simply looks better because she is taller, which make the dress prettier.

Ziyi is pretty. Forget the whole “Asians think she’s JUST average” thing. Yeah, there are prettier girls out there, of course. But that doesn’t take away the fact that Ziyi is among one of those pretty girls. Thousands and thousands of Asians women would kill to have her looks, even if she is not the prettiest of all. I personally would kill to just have her fair skins and delicate cheekbone. I think her reputation in China is bad because the Chinese press has a tendency to smear on the face of the Rich & Famous. The Communists have had a tradition of disliking individual fame as vs. national pride… especially in the international context… Online news forum/portals also farbicate many rumors to attack celebrities just to drive up “clicks”…….
However, Ziyi is pretty, and she is good in acting. (Pls watch her performance in 2046 before you judge her acting skills.) Whether she is pretty above average among the Asian starlets may be subjective to different people, but she is definitely pretty above the average people (like you & me!). Or otherwise we’ll be modeling and filming commercials in studios right now instead of debating here…
As of the dress, I think it’s disastrous. It’s like your wedding dress got caught and torn apart by the elevator and you’re trying to cover yourself up with your husband’s jacket…
In my opinion, the model might have pull it off a little better ONLY because she is modeling… You know how in fashion shows the models would wear pretty outrageous stuffs like a peacock tail on the head or a fishnet over the body with no underwear… I think it’s ok to dress like that on runways/ads because the point with those looks were to express/address an aesthetic idea/designing thought at a confined space/event…….. whatsoever….
But Ziyi actually brought it out to public…….
She is pretty, good in acting, but as with fashion sense she has A LOT to work on…

32/check-raise: sorry to disappoint you… i wear xsm, with a toned, lithe body, long legs, raven hair, fine features of the Far East… appologies for not having genetic defects or aesthetic impairments of your sophomoric, vacuous descriptions… wtf, zhang z is not pretty… i don’t like most features of chinese actors/actresses… MY fcking opinions… opinions are not facts… beauty is a paradox and is not a matter of cultural encapsulation. The proportion of the dress hangs better on the model’s body, because the model is tall, so the details of the white dress part carries out better. Model is also much skinnier, so the dress looks slimmer.
Ziyi’s height doesn’t carry this dress good enough, and the details of the white part was nearly gone (maybe she infold a few pieces to make it shorter). The only better thing is Ziyi’s darker skin looked better with the dress.
This dress requires a lot of height, not easy to wear, and you got to be real skinny, otherwise the dress will look flat.

True, I’m not speaking for ALL “Asains” (Is that how it’s spelled nowaday? hum…) but I’m speaking for all the Asians I know. I am entitled to my opinions and wtf? I think Zhang Ziyi definitely looks better in the dress.. she’s much prettier and she actually looks like she’s nice. Unlike the model, who just looks snobby.
Zhang Ziyi’s shoes also match the dress a lot better, although I suppose the model’s dress is draped better.
Although honestly, I personally don’t like the dress very much, and I think both of them would look better in a different dress.

It seems that Ziyi almost disappears in that dress. Very ugly. She may not look pissed in this picture, but she looks pissed in most of her movies.
