Ashley Judd: “Service Work is My Highest Priority”

Cover girl Ashley Judd takes the June/July 2007 issue of C Magazine on newsstands nationwide May 23rd.

On her stay at a co-dependency treatment center last year in Texas to sort out issues of anxiety and depression: “I wanted to clean out the wreckage of my past. It used to be that every time I made a movie, I had to deal with gut-wrenching anxiety. Now I feel that I have the tools to be creative and nurture myself at the same time.”

On her international charity work ranging from family planning to AIDS and malaria prevention: “Service work is my highest purpose. When I travel, I get to see poverty reduction strategies in action. I am particularly committed to the empowerment of girls and women, but my experience has shown that problems don’t exist in isolation. Gender inequality is linked to poverty, which is in turn linked to lack of education, lack of infrastructure, and so on. It’s so fortunate that people are interested in my movies, but when I talk to someone, all I want to do is discuss social justice and changing the world.”

On her new, very unglamorous role in Bug:”When I’m considering a part, a key factor is spending as little time as possible in hair and makeup, and I certainly didn’t need much of that for this movie.” (laughed) Lately I’m very picky when it comes to movies. I don’t do as many as I used to since I married my husband [racecar driver Dario Franchitti] five years ago. Bug was a truly out-there experience. The script put me in a ‘bet-you-can’t-do-this’ situation, so I wanted to prove that I could. I like projects that provoke me as an artist.”

The cover of Ashley (in Christian Dior) pictured below was shot at Pier 59 in New York City on April 12th. Pictured in Roberto Cavalli above.

Below is Ashley Judd and co-star Michael Shannon of William Friedkin’s new film Bug at a press conference at the Regency Hotel in New York City on Thursday. Out May 25th.

God I love her. She and Jolie are the two actresses who have really inspired me. I love all the work she has done and continues to do.

She’s just so inspiring.

She is a touch of class. She is a natural beauty. I love her and wish her a good luck for what she has been doing.

Oh, no. She’s had work done on her eyes. Why did she do that? She is waaaayyy too young. She had a real spark to her eyes before - something is missing. Maybe it’s just botox but still.

Hmm, doesn’t look like she had any work done to me. Her eyes are still really expressive. But who knows.

She’s awesome!

Hey, Jared. Thanks for including the pic of Michael Shannon! Judd really does give a tremendous performance in BUG. She is as sweet as can be and wonderfully smart to boot. If ever there were performances worthy of the Academy’s attention… She and Michael really deliver the one two knock out punches in this film. Mr. Friedkin is back!

You know one day they will have to do a movie about the Judd family. Now, there is an American story.

Damn. she did. Looks like a brow lift and botox. She’s pulled tighter than a steel drum….jawline too. (Sigh….) It’s obvious, I know because a couple years ago, I was remarking how she was soooooo beautiful, and just natural looking - sure here were a few signs she wasn’t 28 anymore but that made her even more pretty to me…now whatever I saw before is gone, she’s literally turned back time in a still photo, don’t know how that would translate if you’re acting on screen — I mean, it’s great if you’re a certain ‘type’ of actress (silly rom coms, soap actors, sit-coms) but if you’re a dramatic actress, it’s unrealistic to look like your face has literally been frozen in time. That right eyebrow they froze waaaaaaaay too high too. Ashley whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy?? I hope she doesn’t have a plastic surgery addiction like her Mom - she’s getting the same plastic-y face.

Lovely!!!! One of my Favored Actress ~ as for botox ~ who gives a s*it??
like we are alllllll sooooo perfect ~~~ right??

I havent even seen this recent picture but i can imagine what you all are talking about and im disappointed. Real beauty is perfectly imperfect. I honestly thought she was more real than that. Please age gracefully Ashley. You are so lucky that this wont be difficult at all as you are blessed with such natural enduring beauty.

Natural? My Ass.
