David Beckham: Greatest Briton Alive
British beauties David Beckham and Dame Helen Mirren arrive at the Great Britons 2007 Awards at London Television Studios on Monday in London’s South Bank in England.
Becks picked up the inaugural “Greatest Briton Overseas” award during the glitzy awards ceremony.
The soccer star will be honored for his contribution to the nation, on and off the soccer field, including his contribution to the London 2012 Olympic bid.

ERFC Hes not being rewarded for his looks. He’s being rewarded for bring football to a larger audiance of people. Beckham has revolutionised the image of footballers not to mention the hand he played in the London olympic bid or the face that hes one of the highest cap England captains ever.
He hasn’t even done anything special just cause he’s in the papers all the time that’s why he’s got that
And he never even done anything for the olympics except show up at the announcement
and as for his football the fact he ain’t even playing in Europe or the England football team says a lot
and he ain’t even a great player he only scored when it was time for free kicks with everybody standing still

Mia, get your facts right before opening your mouth please, he is playing in Europe with RM who are now regretting real hard to let him go. He doesn’t just score freeckicks, and he’s an incredible crosser; and without his freeckicks England would not have been in the 2002 WC and wouldn’t have gotten as far in the 2006 WC. McLaren is seriously thinking in calling him back in the England team because England is **** without him, and because everybody wants him back (the fans, the players, the press, the FA).
As for the olympics he didn’t just show up at the announcement, he went to meetings, and was involved in the whole campaign.
And i could name more things why he’s being rewarded.

Almost all his scores are for freekics. He shouldn’t have been England Capitan,he doesn’t have a leader qualites to lead . He doesn’t even lead in his house Posh is the one who do it all.Since she is older than him I think that is at least ok. He goes to america where a 1st divison is like a third division in Europe. His carrier is pretty much finished. There is no way he is going to be back in England National Team.
I totally agree with Lolo and Mia. David Beckham is just an average player. Nothing he’s done ever impressed me. True he scored- or helped scored- a couple of goals thanks to his amazing free kicks but he’s nothing like Rooney, Ronaldo and other better players I’ve seen. It’s always been about his look. He’s a hot man but nay, he’s not a great player. I’ve always hated the way he talks… like a baby. You would expect a manly voice out of this hunk. But nay… Oh yeah Sara, thanks god, he’s with the beautiful Helen Mirren than with Mrs Skeletor.
I soo agree with you Lulu! David Beckham is far above the normal football player, his level of skill is fantastic, his respect and love for the game is unimaginable, and his loyalty/dedication to the fans, the game, everyone is amazing.

He’s not a great player. He’s an average player. A football icon, methink not. Look Icon, for sure, yes. Oh, I didn’t go immediately to his voice , learn not to skip the lines, Jess. I did talk about his abilities as football player, or maybe you’re so blind you can’t read. And he DOES talk like a baby. I might sound superficial but I’m telling as it is. Did David Beckham ever scored for RM. I know Zidane used to be one of the main scorers before he left, but I can’t remember David scoring more than 2 goals for RM since he’s been playing for them. He was mostly spending his time on the bench… Why?… Wasn’t the coach impressed by his ‘abilities’? mmm…

Mia + Karen C you obviously know very little. Zidane was a midfeilder and so was never one of the main goal scorers. Ronaldo (Brazilian) Raul Morinetes ect were Madrids top scorers. And Becks is also a midfeild player his job isnt to score its to create goals ( Along with Guti he is Madrids highest assist maker despite missing game sthrough injury). Of course Rooney and Ronaldo are better than David, David is coming to the end of his career. Its unfair to compare him to them at this stage. When Beckham was 22 (same age as Ronaldo) he had alreayd won 2 league titles and a FA cup, plus all the individual awards Ronaldo has won (young player of the year, Bobby charlton award ect)
And Mia for your information since Capello swallowed his pride and forgot his arguement with Beckham, Becks has started evry game that hes been fit for, the only games hes missed are if hes been injured, or suspended like last weeks game against Espanyol. Capello frequently praises Beckhams performances. You just have to watch last nights game against Recretivo to see how good David still is. Hes been a vita player in Madrid getting back to the top of La Liga
Beckham in his prime was one of the best players of his generation, and he came runner up in both FIFA world player of the year and European player of the year on two seperate occasions plus wstern europes most valuable player of the year (all 3 ware voted for by fellow professionals so looks play no part) so to say he was only ever averages is being massively disrespectul. He won 6 league title, 2 FA cup, 2 League cups and a Champions league. Not to mention he won 96 caps for england - over 50 as cpatain and hes the only English player to ever score in 3 world cups. So no, he is by no means just average and never has been.
I agree with the others. I like David, and he’s a good player, but he really isn’t anything extraordinary. He’s got a great kick, but as far as other skills, he’s nothing too special. He does look extraordinary, though.
And Helen Mirren is looking so lovely. This is one elegant, beautiful lady.

If he was such a fantastic player, like you claim he was, why didn’t ever help England reach the final since 1998? He wasn’t a top scorer, true but how many times did Beck had a shot at scoring from his freekicks and he’d lamely miss the goal?
