Angelina Jolie sits down with NBC News’ Ann Curry to talk about A Mighty Heart, her extensive humanitarian work, Brad Pitt and their four children, and the recent death of her mother, Marcheline Bertrand.
The interview will air on The Today Show @ 7AM ET/PT and Dateline NBC @ 10PM ET/PT Wednesday, May 23.
So if I asked you, for example, right now — what’s something that’s untrue that you would like to say right now is not true… you wouldn’t know what was untrue that was written about you? No.
Nothing? No. I mean, I can assume. I know there’s a cycle of certain things that they keep rewriting or whatever, but I can assume things are made up. But no, I haven’t a clue. (laughter) And why would I, you know? There’s nothing I have to hide or defend. You know, I’m gonna live my life. And there are gonna be times when people wanna try to attack me and I don’t know why, but they will. And that’s okay.
It’s okay? Well, there are other things I’m more concerned about. My kids are healthy. I have a lot I want to do in this world. Before I do, I wanna do a lot of things as a woman, as a mom, and that’s my focus. At the end of the day, I’m gonna be dead… and what people say about me is gonna be what I accomplished and what I did in my life and how my children are.
Is there anything you’d like to say to people listening now because you now have an unedited audience here — an unedited opportunity — to give people to unvarnished truth about who you are and what you stand for. Is there anything that you want to say about yourself? No. I mean… I have always been honest about who I am, and I’ve always been very outspoken to press. I think people have heard a lot from me (laughter) over the years. And - and you do hear more, you know?… People wanna believe negative things, they will. And I can’t help that.

Jolie on her role as Mariane Pearl
It’s interesting. I was reading that you were actually six months pregnant when you first talked to Mariane. I was six months pregnant and –
But that helped you empathize? But it [did]. It was also a very interesting thing because for as much as I was kind of waddling around and feeling the heat, I couldn’t help but look over at this woman and think, “God, she is where I’m at now and I’m having — and not just the physical thing of being pregnant and, oh, that’s difficult. And I have this man with me who’s helping me through this and loves me.”
And it’s a joyous moment. And we’re about to now also have a baby, and we’re gonna look at this baby together across the room at each other. And it’s all those things that make that so much more. And to not just physically be thinking, “God, how is this woman physically dealing with trying to maintain her strength and take care of this baby that’s inside of her, working so hard and having so much emotional stress?”
But on top of it, what that took away from her. What that took away from this time in their life, this is the happiest time in their life. And what that must be. I just can’t imagine. I thought about that when I was breastfeeding. I thought about that all through kind of the birth of, you know, that haunted me and when I was sitting here quiet, I would think, “God, just a few months after, what is that like? What is that like?”
To play her was not easy. To play her at this time of her life was not easy. I’ve played real people before, but I never knew them. And, you’d think that would be easier. (laughs) I did. But the day before we started shooting, I had hardly slept and I was in a panic. I had gotten to know her and I’d gotten to know their son. And the thought that he would see this one day… It was my responsibility to not just show the world but also show him how much his mother loved his father and how much they loved each other and how they handled this time.
It was something that haunted me through the whole thing and haunted, I think, everybody involved. Nobody ever really voiced that and nobody really talked about it, but I’m sure it was something that she did become a friend.
So how do you play [that role?]- I’m sure if somebody said to you, “Your great girlfriend has gone through the most horrible thing in her life. Why don’t you stand up and show us what she went through and how it felt?”

In a separate interview, Brad Pitt talks to Curry about his behind-the-scenes role as a producer on “A Mighty Heart,” which is produced by his Plan B shingle in conjunction with Revolution films. Dede Gardner and Andrew Eaton, two producers of the movie, also join Pitt in the interview. Pitt also discusses his global charity work with Jolie.
Brad Pitt, on his humanitarian work with Jolie and what people can do to help:The thing is just generating the will to understand. And that means focusing on certain events. Because it’s not all coming across our airwaves… and really investigating if something doesn’t feel right.
Generally, I would say it’s just not enough anymore to say that “it’s entertainment and enjoyment.” For me personally I’m saying, in my life, if you can move the ball forward a little bit… that’s what this is about. Where is it going to go? The interesting thing is how it evolves for me individually for myself, and watching the same with Angie. But where’s it gonna go? I’m not gonna stop.
We can have our things. And that is just getting your hands dirty, rolling up your sleeves a little bit and seeing where it takes you. And where it can, where you can best help. Where you’d be most effective. But there’s a lot of studying do.

On the Carpet
I thought it was crazy enough earlier in the day during the press conference but that was just the press. Out in front of the Palais, where fans had been waiting for hours, they totally lost their ****.
Again, in photos Angelina is always pursing her lips for her pose so it’s hard to tell the body language. But I can tell you that these two are not uncomfortable with their fame. They don’t look awkward up there, it’s absolutely natural, they match stride for stride, slowly, as if they could have been strolling down the Croisette, totally non plussed by the flashbulb explosion – really is quite amazing.
Hardly stepped away from each other the entire time. There was a lot of whispering back and forth, many suggestive glances – again…it’s like porn for me. And even what could be called a girly girl moment with Mariane Pearl… or at least the closest that Angelina Jolie can come to a girly girl moment. At some point the two women looked across from each other and smiled and lifted their shoulders and giggled a little. It’s genuine their friendship, 100% it’s genuine.
Also loved Brad’s affection for little Adam Pearl who was clearly overwhelmed by the situation. There’s no photo of it but as they headed into the Palais after waving to the crowd, Angelina mussed up Adam’s hair and made a silly face and poked him in the armpit. He laughed, she laughed, and then she took Brad’s hand and they entered the theatre.
Again, A Mighty Heart was very well received. I’m told yesterday exceeded their expectations and so as I’ve reported several times, they just might push Angie for Actress – which we knew already – AND the film for Best Picture, regardless of box office performance though predicted to modest at best. Let you know if I hear more.
PS. Most random attendee? Mischa Barton. You think she actually understood what A Mighty Heart was all about???
PPS. Angelina’s dress was one thing…but Brad’s tux? UNBELIEVABLE. Look at that … vest…or whatever you call it. And he WORE it, you know? He.Wore.It.
Angelina Jolie to Forego Studio Paychecks for Full Year
Bad news, People Who Actually Like Angelina Jolie’s Movies! She’s taking a year off.
Boo hoo, we hear you, but the lady’s got a hot man (who’s known to stray) to keep track of and a growing number of kids that aren’t going to make cute faces for the cameras all by themselves. Here’s Angie’s sched: She’s working a few months this summer in Prague, then taking she’s taking two months off, then working for two months, then taking a full year, just to be a civilian!
Really, our hearts are going out to the paparazzi and tabloid magazine editors, who surely couldn’t fathom covering Jolie and her brood incessantly now that she’ll have no work to promote.

At the du Cap
Last night, having cocktails at Hotel du Cap on terrace, an Oceans 13 dinner was going on next door at Eden Roc without Brad and Angelina who were at The Might Heart gala. But George Clooney, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon with Luciana, Andy Garcia, the super rich producers I’m too hung over to name… all of them present, and all of them spilled over back to the du Cap bar just after midnight. Things start late in Cannes.
Was headed to the loo when I spotted Daniel Craig first. Wearing a tux and shorter than I remembered. Saw him at Oscars, from that distance he had some height. But at this distance, like literally half a metre away, not so much. But still…Bond looks quivering in a tux. And very fair. Almost grey though distinguished and a lot of stubble. Girlfriend hovering, hovering all night, almost always by his side.
Just behind Daniel, Andy Garcia in another group laughing, chatting, then making his way over to chat with Bai Ling who was talking up some rich dudes I didn’t recognise and not flashing her nipple. I couldn’t believe it.
But the marquee arrival – all of a sudden George Clooney appears, holding hands with a very tan, very leggy, very tall generic blonde. He leads her to the corner of the terrace which just happens to be right next to us followed by his bodyguards and more powerful producers and proceeds to hold court there for the next hour and half. I could hear his voice in the background the entire evening.
George? SO beautiful. Like… SO beautiful. Tanned naturally, light striped button-down shirt with khakis and very, very thin. Dylan called it scrawny. But again…unbelievably handsome in an Old Hollywood way. Had his hair combed and parted to the side. Now that I think about it actually, he and Brad had the same ‘do last night. Little grown up boy. QUIVER!!!
The blonde was definitely an accessory. Picture him leaning against the terrace, back to the ocean, she kept one arm draped around him, once in a while he would stroke it, once in a while they’d have a private whisper, then he’d go back to his boy’s club conversation with the men and she’d stand there smiling vacantly…can you see it?
She had a friend with her. An attractive brunette who appeared to be assigned to any man not George. High end sleaze, that’s what I call it. But that’s how they roll, the rich and famous especially in Cannes. Besides, as shameful as this sounds, as degrading as this sounds, I would have traded places with her in a second. Seriously, George Clooney is so f&cking hot, he has just flown up to the top of the Freebie Five. Will update it when I can walk a straight line.
Needless to say, everyone wanted a piece of George’s fraternity. At one point, Angelina’s assistant Holly came down to shake a few hands. We thought they were en route, especially since that bodyguard – you know that dude who throttled some pappy in India? – he came down to do a sweep, to check out if the situation was safe for the Pitts.
Unfortunately, there were way too many people for his liking. Either that or they were too tired and went back to their kids. Because they didn’t show…which was kind of a relief. I don’t think I could have maintained my cool…
Besides, we had enough to keep us occupied.
Particularly Daniel Craig in jeans. He changed clothing. Tux was gone replaced by plain white tee shirt and jeans and EVERYTHING was bulging. Arms were bulging, abs were defined, quads were popping out… I was sitting next to a gay man, he could barely control himself. Nor could I.
Daniel and girl made their way over to pay respects to George. At one point, while squeezing past, he touched my back to slide my chair over.
They were drinking Grey Goose straight – Daniel pouring into glasses, passing all around. Like I said, it had a very fraternity feel to it, everyone was in great spirits, a lot of laughing. George has a great laugh. And everyone thinks what he says is funny. It’s kind of nauseating in that private member’s club kind of way, you know what I mean?
And then he left. Hand in hand with the girl and a bodyguard, down the steps into what I can only describe as the palm tree garden, joking all the while with his minder and hand always tucked into hers. But my smutty sense was tingling. Just a feeling. That he’s one of those guys who prefers no hassle, no drama…like Richard Gere in Pretty Woman. She was Julia Roberts, you get where I’m going? That’s exactly what I think it was. I think.
Thanks JJ for 2 more new threads, everyday with you this week, I have to play catch up…but I love it. I can’t wait for the interview tomorrow.

Gawd, if I read one more comment on how skinny AJ is I think I will scream. Just kidding. ::) :):):) There are so many threads I can’t remember where I read it, but someone mentioned that she had long arms, big hands, and skinny legs and that if they could replace x’s body with AJ’s head then she would be beautiful. Holy sh@t Batman, with all of these supposed body defects Angie is always on a most beautiful, most sexy, most wanted, most desired lists and always ranked in the top 5, 10 to 15. On the other hand x doesn’t even make most lists. So apparently her legs, arms and hands don’t matter to those who truly know beauty. I go to the gym three days a week for two hours each day working my @ss off to get thin. No I am not fat, but ten pounds would serve me well. Americans are the fattest people in the world. So someone who is not fat is considered odd.
African Girl, I just came from LaineyGossip. I don’t think you want to read about your man GC and his doings at Cannes. He is to say the least not being faithful to you and your love. I don’t know how to make a frowning face. But believe me if I could I would give me a good tongue lashing. Pun intended. :):):):) Peace

I was watching the press conference yesterday, so funny that almost all of the questions were for the Pitts. ( I kinna feel bad for the others)…but hey, I’m not complaining, I love their responses. I loved the part where MP talked about the movie and she’s the one who asked Angelina to play her in the movie, she said” I trust her and I believe SHE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN DO THIS ROLE….”

I don’t get to post much anymore, but I surely thought some of the deluded X-file groupies would have relented. What is it going to take? Look, let me see if I can help you ppl understand. Shiloh is a baby right? She poops right? Well, when Shiloh poops in her diaper and her dad is the one who is changing her, he works really fast and hard to get rid of the poop because it not only stinks to high heaven, but it is absolutely worthless. He doesn’t talk about it, he doesn’t save pictures of it, he doesn’t cry over it or feel sorry that it is gone. Well, consider his relationship with Aniston on the same level as the poop. It is worthless, it is gone, it needed to be disposed of as soon as possible. There is nothing else to talk about. Was it worth something at one time. Yes. Sure it was. Just like the food that Shiloh eats or milk that she drinks was worth something at one time. But it evolved into something else that was repulsive to both of them so they disposed of it. End of story.
Now, for those of you who still insist on bringing out the x-files, there is a very special program for you called Hooked on Phonics. I heard it does wonders for children and adults. Perhaps you should try it. While you are at it try Barney and the Teletubbies-they used to come on PBS. Maybe if you watch a few episodes you can start to understand.
