Ocean’s 13 By the Sea
Here is yet another helping of the Ocean’s 13 cast in Cannes…
The star-studded cast of Ocean’s Thirteen take a break from promoting their third crime caper together — George Clooney, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Don Cheadle and Andy Garcia — and enjoy the Eden Roc hotel in Cap d’Antibes with their families. (See first set of photos here).
Cheadle, 42, was accompanied by his two daughters Ayana and Imani.

A Mighty” Impressive Performance From Jolie
CANNES — May 21 late morning
Angelina Jolie won the Oscar of course. But she’s made so many high profile flicks like Tomb Raider and Mr. and Mrs. Smith, not to mention a personal life that combines Brad Pitt with humanitarian work, that it’s easy to forget she’s a very good actress. No one’s going to forget after A Mighty Heart, the Michael Winterbottom film based on the true story of Mariane Pearl and her husband Daniel, a Wall Street Journal reporter who was kidnapped and brutally killed by Islamic terrorists.
Winterbottom’s film is typically dispassionate and very smart and Jolie blends in beautifully with a large cast. She sports a tricky accent worthy of Meryl Streep, but this is not even remotely a showy role. But few will forget her anguished cry of pain when the terrible truth that Daniel had been beheaded was broadcast over the Internet to the entire world. Beautifully, that same cry of pain is echoed a few minutes later, when Mariane is seen giving birth.
Pitt was an executive producer on the film and they both appeared at the press conference, along with Mariane. And yes, it was a mad house. Now we know what it takes to out-draw Michael Moore at a Cannes press conference: the most beautiful couple in the world. By the way, if you haven’t read Pearl’s book A Mighty Heart, it’s quite good. — Michael Giltz

Uh, why the hell is it a big deal that Angie did not go to this event? Now, if people were upset because they knew the reason why she didn’t go, then they’ve got a point. But, since NONE of us know the reason why she didn’t go, I don’t find anything wrong with it. Don’t let the haters get to you. Their job is to rile us up.

THANK YOU. It appears that IF the MM/E! blurb is true, then the O13 group, except for MattD, went as a group together, and came right back tlo the hotel as soon as it was over. Why was it expected that Angelina would definitely go to this fundraiser? Why are socalled fans so quick to pull the fire alarm as if there is a fire? The trolls do more than enough of that annoying as hel* cra* as it is, some posting trash from the past over and over as if they can change what is real and solid.
This fundraiser was for the group formed by Brad, Jerry, Matt, Don, and George for an excellent reason. Angelina may have been tired or wanted to stay close to the kids for some reason or wanted to have some down time with friends. Whatever the reason may be is none of our business. Why would anyone get all worked up if she skipped this event? What is the matter with some people? She said to PEOPLE that she is having a lovely time in Cannes and that is great. Sounds like some of the same folks that predicted that Brad would not be at the AMH press conference or at the premiere, look how wrong they were.
Most likely Angelina will attend the O13 premiere with Brad. Publicity is publicity.

Thank you for getting what I was trying to say. Remember last year Angelina was in Canada with Brad when he was in TIFF doing press for Babel and she NEVER went to the OneXOne Benefit charity Gala that was hosted by Matt Damon. Did that mean something was wrong? Absolutely not.

I can’t wait to see this movie! This scene seems to be very emotional for a viewer to watch b/c it’s the one that most critics are pointing too and saying that Angelina nailed her oscar nod with that scene.
Just my two cents.
I think Angie probably didn’t go….IF she didn’t go that is….to the event for Darfur because she didn’t want to take away from what the event was about. Sad to say but Brad & Angie together outshine even that, I think if this is the reason then it was very considerate of her.
As for the premiere, I thinks she will go but if not then again she probably doesn’t want to draw away from those whose movie it was. Nothing wrong with that either.
A Mighty Heart involved both Brad & Angie so naturally they would both attend all events connected with it.

Critics Praise Angelina Jolie’s ‘Mighty’ Role
LOS ANGELES (May 22, 2007) — Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt took Cannes by storm this week, when the super couple hit the south of France to premiere Angie’s new film, “A Mighty Heart.”
And if the early reviews are any indication, it looks like Oscar’s first contender has been found.
Critics are praising Angelina’s portrayal of Mariane Pearl, the widow of slain Wall Street Journalist Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in 2002.
“Angelina Jolie delivers a well-measured and moving performance,” says the Hollywood Reporter, adding she “plays her with respect and a firm grasp on a difficult accent influenced by France and Cuba. She has a powerful scene in which she lets out a shriek of grief that will be recognized wherever people suffer from terror and loss.”
The film, directed by Michael Winterbottom, the film is based on Mariane’s memoir after her husband’s death “A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Daniel Pearl.”
Co-starring Dan Futterman, Irfan Khan, Adnan Siddiqui, Alyy Khan, and co-produced by Brad Pitt, “A Mighty Heart” is very much Mariane’s story as carried out by Angelina.
Jolie “fits comfortably into the naturalistic mold that shapes the entire ensemble” says Variety. “This isn’t the sort of commanding star turn in which the performer vanishes behind a well-known celebrity mask, but rather a subdued, carefully considered portrait of a woman caught between premature grief and persistent hope.”
Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush attended the “Mighty Heart” press conference in Cannes, where Angelina, Brad and the rest of the film’s cast and crew were joined by Mariane on the panel.
Billy asked Angelina what it was like to step into the difficult role.
“Angelina, Mariane said that she trusted you. Was there a moment when you felt you had got that validation from her or did you know inside you had nailed it?” Billy asked.
“I did finally speak to her days after she saw it and she told me it was all right,” Jolie revealed. “I was very nervous and didn’t know if I could do it at all. So for her to tell that it was done right, I can’t tell you how much that means to me.”
“A Mighty Heart” hits theaters June 22.

This is one nice pic. Angie is so pretty and elegant ! She is one of those actress who look good in candid shot unlike you know who, who had to fire a director for not making the lights properly set up to make her look more like woman not man.
In a festival that has felt surprisingly withdrawn from world politics (all of the above films are very inner-directed), Michael Winterbottom’s gripping thriller “A Mighty Heart” feels like a refreshing blast from the real world. (What, no war films this year?) Despite the potential sentimentality of the subject matter - the film is told through the perspective of Mariane Pearl, the five-months pregnant wife of murdered journalist Daniel Pearl - “A Mighty Heart” tells a complex, suspenseful tale of political intrigue, Pakistani-Indian relations, journalistic ethics, torture and yes, the emotional turmoil of losing a loved one.
While Angelina Jolie’s Mariane Pearl occasionally loses her French accent, she makes up for the misstep with a sturdy, anguished performance that eventually succumbs to a volcanic eruption of grief. If the portrayal is already generating Oscar talk, it’s also better than such fatuous plaudits. As Mariane Pearl emphatically said at the news conference on Monday morning, the film exists above-and-beyond Academy buzz. “It’s not about us,” Pearl said. “It’s not about being famous and making more money or any of that. It’s about a situation in the world that everybody is aware of.”

They were just playing around and been silly. When they sat down for the interview, they were paired off, it was Matt and George and Brad and Don, and Matt said that this was the first time that they are not all sitting together, and the reason was because Brad took out a restraining order again George lol

No. I never said I hated them.
I always said I dislike Angelina.
I always said I like Brad. That I feel sorry for him, but I like him.
I never mentioned any of her kids.
Only that he didn’t have a choice with any of them, as she adopted Mad and Z, before him, and she adopted Pax, alone.
So, stop the BS, and stop saying that I said things that I didn’t.
I like to go to different sites to see the pictures and to see what’s going on in Hollywood.
And I am entitled to my own opinion, which you don’t respect.
Because of that, I don’t respect yours either.
End of discussion.
Jolie’s portrayal of Pearl — who was six months pregnant when her husband was abducted — has been the subject of some controversy due to some mild cosmetic elements — her hair is curlier, her skin slightly darkened to convey the real Mariane Pearl’s Cuban-French heritage — but there’s nothing insensitive or overdone in the mild make-up artistry of the part; the inner performance is what shines out. Jolie’s Pearl may feel fear, but never hate — and her public face of grace and calm is one part humanism, one part strategy. She’s deliberately trying not to provoke the men who hold her husband captive — and she also truly believes that peace and justice are the ultimate weapons against those who would kill and maim in the name of God. Asked about Karachi’s role as a cultivator of terrorism, Marianne’s reply is fast, smart and sincere: “Wherever there is misery, they find people.”
But Jolie’s Mariane Pearl isn’t some plaster secular saint, either; when the inevitable end to the story comes crashing down, her howling, devastated grief ripples off the screen with brute force and power.

NOw I have tears in my eyes. I am so happy for Angie and Brad. This film from the reviews sounds so fantastic. I know I’ll have to take some tissues with me to the theatre. Bravo Brad, Winterboom, Angie, Futterman, etc. Job well done.

that party was 200 people paying 100,000 each. i think they could keep their hysteria in check. i think something’s up.
—————————————————————————————————–
Come on now…if ’something was up’, she wouldn’t have been hanging out in the lobby relaxing with a couple of friends…One would think if you were right and there was a problem she would be at the villa AWAY from the prying eyes of strangers. Bottom line, she has stayed back while Brad has gone to these kinds of events on his own before (the Palm Springs Babel event comes to mind).
If she decided to stay back it could be due to the emotional day she had the day before…maybe she just needed to unwind from that. Perhaps she wanted to skip getting all dolled up two nights in a row and instead wait for the premiere. Maybe she wanted to spend a little time with the kids as she probably hadn’t the chance the day before because of all her commitments to AMH. Maybe she just didn’t feel like going. It doesn’t really need to be some conspiracy of trouble IMO
P.S. I think she’ll be with him at the premiere…now more than ever :)
Hey twokids,
If you put all this energy into something you liked, think about what you could do. Isn’t it exhausting to focus on negative things all the time. You don’t like Angie, so that is a negative. Why give it power? If you notice, I am not attacking you. I am trying to have an adult conversation with you.
Everyone is talking about the cry scene when she finds out danny is dead, I can’t wait to watch this movie.
twokids2 can’t even keep her attacks straight.
No wonder, bitter woman, who has been betrayed by her friends and family.
With really dark secrets in her closet, low self esteem, unable to move on, unable to forgive, she sees
no fault in herself, blames everyone else… wait, isn’t that __?

IA. I don’t think either one knew how it would be received by the critics due to who they are but I think that this performance has reminded critics and soon fans/haters alike that Angelina Jolie isn’t just one hot mama with four kids and Brad Pitt….she’s an award winning actress that fires up the screen with not just beauty but an overwhelming talent.
twokids2,
I’m glad Jennifer Aniston didn’t end up playing the role. Brad Pitt is better off without her and I never thought she looked like she fit with him either. I always thought it was a matter of time.
You can post all day about how wonder Aniston is, it’s still the past and if you want to live there, fine, turn into a block of salt, looking back at what was.
When Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie walked together on the red carpet in cannes it’s so obvious how glamorous they looked and well they fit together. Brad Pitt finally allowed himself to embrace his greatness and use his fame for a good cause instead of being afraid of it and hanging out in the mediocre with his mediocre actress wife Jennifer Aniston. There is no way Aniston could play a role of this caliber. She is no more than Rachel Green, a sitcom actress. That’s not a bad thing, but there is a world of a difference between sitcom and movie star.
