WildAid
Devotion to Cambodia

In 2003, actress Angelina Jolie requested WildAid’s help in carrying out a “Threats and Needs” assessment in Samlaut, Cambodia’s Northwestern region. The project, named after Angelina’s adopted Cambodian son Maddox, has since grown into a conservation and community development organization in rural Cambodia that provides direct support to the local villages, endangered wildlife and habitats to achieve a sustainable path to economic development, balancing conservation and economic rejuvenation.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt remain active in the organization as co-Presidents with Stephan Bognar acting as Executive Director.

Pitt Still in Love with Aniston
By WENN | Thursday, May 12, 2005
HOLLYWOOD - Brad Pitt is still in love with estranged wife Jennifer Aniston because he
respects the way she’s dealing with their divorce.
The movie star opened his breaking heart to men’s magazine GQ just days after
Aniston filed for divorce in March.
In the interview, Pitt says of the break-up, “It’s so complex and
multifaceted. We’ve done it our way and I love her for that. We’ve kept the love we havefor each other.”
The movie hunk refused to confirm or deny a romance with Mr. & Mrs. Smith
co-star Angelina Jolie, but he was optimistic about his divorce and
philosophical about the break-up of his marriage.
He adds, “The thing that I don’t understand is looking at this as a failure.
It’s talked about like it failed, I guess because it wasn’t flawless.
“I embrace the messiness of life. I find it so beautiful, actually. The idea
that marriage has to be for all time, that I don’t understand.”
The actor also admits he wanted to “punch” out the “lights” of journalists
who wrote “cruel” things about the split couple just to “get a rise out of her
(Aniston)”.

Angie’s devotion to Cambodian Helth Center

In June of 2006, this six-year old child was near death due to TB and AIDS.It has been more than 12 years since the Cambodian Health Committee (CHC) began its work in the tuberculosis (TB) wards of three district hospitals in what was in 1994 a poorly accessible and impoverished area of Cambodia bordering Vietnam, Svay Rieng Province. Since that time, more than 10,000 people with TB in Svay Rieng and in another poor and war-impacted province, Kompot have been cured due to the CHC’s efforts and thousands of villagers have been educated about TB and AIDS and participated in microcredit programs to increase their income. Policies of the Cambodian National TB program have been modeled on CHC approaches. Building upon the success of the TB program, CHC now cares for over 2,000 people in provincial AIDS treatment programs in Svay Rieng and Kompot in collaboration with the Cambodian National AIDS Program.

After four months of therapy, he continued to gain strength, is learning to read like other six-year olds, and is attending the MCCC on a daily basis.CHC works to decrease the human suffering caused by TB, AIDS, and poverty with the conviction that all people can be cured of TB, be treated for AIDS, and can lead healthy lives. Through direct care, the development of novel approaches to TB and AIDS care in rural and urban settings that target the poorest in the society, and through advocacy to ensure that all people who need drugs for TB and AIDS have access, the CHC is fighting these two infectious diseases that are are among the most deadly in the world. Over 8 million people develop TB every year and 2 million people die, many also stricken with AIDS, which has destroyed their immune systems and made them more susceptible to TB. It is in fact estimated by the World Health Organization that TB is the largest cause of death in the setting of AIDS and has been the cause of up to half of all the estimated 30 million deaths caused by AIDS to date.

Marie-Pierre Fernandez, director of the MCCC, Angelina Jolie, and co-founder of the CHC Anne Goldfeld with a child who currently attends the Maddox Chivan Children’s Center during a visit by Jolie and Brad Pitt in November of 2006.The impact of CHC can be seen in the pictures on this page. At just six years of age, the boy in the top picture had already lost his mother due to AIDS. He was brought to the Maddox Chivan Children’s Center (MCCC), which CHC opened in February 2006. CHC staff found that he had a temperature of 104° F, TB, and end-stage AIDS. After treatment with TB and AIDS medicines, he became a regular attendee at the MCCC and has reclaimed his childhood. He joins 200 other children who have family members who are suffering from AIDS or who are themselves infected with the virus that causes AIDS.

We thank you for taking the time to learn more about the problems of TB and AIDS in Cambodia and hope that you will be interested in joining our efforts to provide access to treatment of these terrible but treatable diseases and to provide those afflicted with opportunities to build new lives. Please consider donating to help us in our cause by clicking on the link below.

As a reporter, being on the road, interviewing celebrities often every day, rarely do you encounter the true stars-the ones who walk around with a spotlight and actually live up to that expectation. Inevitably they are for the most part just people like us, only with extraordinary jobs.
Brad Pitt however is a rare beast. Brad Pitt is a mega mega star. And in person, he does not come up short. However, Brad Pitt in combination with Angelina Jolie???
Well now that’s just a regular, garden variety supernova.
I was huddled with what seemed like the entire press corps yesterday during the press conference for A Mighty Heart. And even a jaded press corps, not a crowd of hysterical fans, even a jaded press corps will get jacked up for Brad and Angelina.
I have to tell you — they walked out and the earth moved. What I mean is that the moment they were in view, the moment these two ridiculously beautiful creatures blessed us with their presence, every journalist surged. Some actually squealed. I think I let out a little peep too. But don’t tell.
Still, let’s not forget why they were there. The movie is called A Mighty Heart. Angelina plays Mariane Pearl, widow of slain journalist Daniel Pearl who was killed in Pakistan in 2002 when Mariane was 6 months pregnant.
This is a woman who has survived and who continues to survive unspeakable tragedy. And instead of railing at the world and begrudging humanity for its cruelty, she has instead chosen to live with dignity and share her experience in the hopes that no one will have to suffer how she suffered.
The film has been very well received and as such has elevated Brad Pitt and Angelina to even higher iconic status.
And finally, because I am first and foremost and always a gossip lover, they are still totally in love. Totally touchy feely, totally hot for each other. And I totally can’t get enough.
Yours in gossip,
Lainey

Tom Ford Cannes Do
Brad Pitt dons designer’s new line for festival

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

(CANNES) Brad Pitt, famous as he is, seems consistently overshadowed by his loves, be they Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie—both of whom garner the lion’s share of paparazzi attention wherever they go.

Tom Ford is about to change all that.

While the relationship isn’t official like the one Reese Witherspoon enjoys with Olivier Theyskens for Nina Ricci, Ford, who recently launched a namesake men’s line and a Madison Avenue flagship to house it all, said he recently completed fittings with the actor in Los Angeles for his several public appearances at the Cannes Film Festival this week, which include the world premieres of A Mighty Heart and Ocean’s Thirteen. “Brad always looked too scruffy,” Ford said. “I wanted him to look chic, like a true movie star. Plus, he’s not a bad man to clean up.”

On Monday night, while Pitt’s paramour donned a vintage Pierre Balmain Haute Couture Chantilly lace cocktail dress she acquired at Decades, the actor appeared a new man clad in Ford’s made-to-measure black wool peak lapel three-piece tuxedo, which he wore with a white piquet plastron shirt, black velvet bow tie, and black patent leather shoes. The icing on the cake came in form of diamond studs and cufflinks, all from Ford’s collection, natch. This followed a press conference earlier in the day, where he wore a slightly more casual, albeit stunning, Tom Ford made-to-measure grey suit, shirt, shoes and cufflinks. “I never wear a tie during the day; it gives me headaches,” Ford said. Looks like Pitt has found himself a new role model.

Angelina Jolie, Pitt Help Namibian Ranch Become Wildlife Reserve

A UN Goodwill Ambassador’s work is apparently never done, as word that Angelina Jolie and honey Brad Pitt visited a special Namibian ranch in an effort to bolster their efforts to become a full-fledged wildlife reserve.

The Insider reports that shortly before their daughter Shilow Nouvel was born, the duo visited the Harnas Ranch taking their adopted children Zahara and Maddox along.

The Harnas Ranch was once a cattle farm, but is now a ranch dedicated to saving endangered wild animals in Namibia, Africa. Now the Harnas Wildlife Foundation, they hope to turn the ranch into a nature reserve where orphaned animals can be released.

Jolie reportedly learned of Harnas back in 2003, and The Insider has a black and white photo in which she posed with an orphaned cheetah during her first visit to the ranch.

So far, the actress has donated $250,000 to their organization.

Angelina Jolie: Newsweek interview March 10, 2007

Do you worry about people who say this is celebrity tourism?

I don’t know if anybody saying that has spent the last six years of their life going to over 30 camps and really spending time with these people. I can’t care. At the end of the day, I’m sure a lot of criticism could keep a lot of people from doing this kind of work…

If someone had a direct criticism of my opinion on the issue, if someone had a direct criticism of the image shown because they think it hurts somebody then I will take that into consideration. But there are a lot of people that simply have an immediate gut reaction and they just don’t want to combine artists with foreign policy. And hey, I understand. I get it. I know where you’re coming from. And to each his own. … You know, I was more shy when I first went into a camp that other field officers would not want me there.

You were worried that you’d get in the way.

Yeah. That’s why I brought no media, it’s why I sat back. That’s why I just helped them load things. And if I felt that I was ever getting in the way, I wouldn’t do it. Because I do care about the opinion of the aid worker, I do care about the opinion of the refugee. I care less about the opinion of the person who’s never been in the field but has an opinion about celebrity.

I agree only/me if my finance tells me that marriage doesn’t have to be for all time, then you have to go in that marriage with the reality that’s its not going to last and don’t be shocked when it does or not marry the guy to begin with, because lets face it when brad made that quote this was not a fairy tale marriage, this was an eventual out-it doesn’t sound romantic to me but a business arrangement,i’m not saying he didn’t love her but by him saying that she wasn’t the love of his life.

Backstubbing ex-husband to boost her career

“When Brad and Jen were in the marriage, having a baby was not his priority—ever,” says one mutual friend. “It was an abstract desire for him, whereas for Jen it was much more immediate. So is there a part of Brad that’s diabolical? Did he think, I need to get out of this marriage, but I want to come out smelling like a rose, so I’m going to let Jen be cast as the ultra-feminist and I’m going to get cast as the poor husband who couldn’t get a baby and so had to move on?”

She is said serial LIAR in HW.
THAT’S WHY NO STUDIO DOESN’T HIRE HER.

Botswana’s Bushmen Ask Angelina Jolie For Help, June 2, 2006

Botswana’s Kalahari Bushmen are seeking the support of Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie in their fight to reclaim their ancestral lands, a London-based organisation supporting them said on Thursday.

Jolie — a United Nations Children’s Fund ambassador — is currently in neighbouring Namibia, having recently given birth to a daughter, Shiloh, her first child with fellow actor Brad Pitt.

“We have heard that you are very interested in human rights,” reads the open letter to Jolie from Bushman organisation First People of the Kalahari and released by Survival International. “The government is trying to destroy us and we are asking for your help in our battle to save our people.”

Survival International, which helps tribal people “defend their lives, protect their lands and determine their own futures”, has waged a 30-year campaign in support of the San Bushmen.

It maintains they were driven out of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve — one of the world’s largest sanctuaries — to make way for diamond mining, a claim the government has denied.

The government in the capital, Gaborone, has maintained that it resettled the Bushmen in villages where it could provide them with water and social amenities.

Writing before the birth, the Bushmen extended their “blessing and good luck” to Jolie on her pregnancy.

They added: “Those who remain inside the game reserve are not allowed to hunt and gather and have no access to water.

“The health situation is bad in the resettlement camps. Young people are getting HIV and are drinking. This is not the way of our people. The death rate is now high.”

About 240 San Bushmen have taken the Botswana government to court to secure the legal right to return to the reserve they have called home for the past 20 000 years.

Once numbering millions, roughly 100 000 San are left in Southern Africa, with almost half of those — 48 000 — in Botswana. Others are spread across Angola, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. — Sapa-AFP

Liberian refugee women stitch together new future after Angelina Jolie skills course

LARGO CAMP, Sierra Leone, Feb. 23 (UNHCR) – There was an atmosphere of joy and jubilation in Largo refugee camp last week when 50 Liberian refugee women each received a sewing machine after successfully completing a sewing skills course, funded by UNHCR’s goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie.

“Today, our dreams have come true and for this we are very grateful. When we came to the camp, we did not know anything. But, with the skills that we have learned, we now know how to sew both for children and adults, we can return to Liberia and will be able to do something on our own,” said Sangay Kawala on behalf of the trainees.

At the graduation ceremony the refugees sang songs in praise of Angelina Jolie and UNHCR. The Goodwill Ambassador donated the funds for the sewing courses in four refugee camps in Sierra Leone, including buying some of the sewing machines distributed to participants. UNHCR also helped fund the sewing machine purchase in Largo camp.

“I would like to congratulate all of you on the completion of your training. You deserve the certificates and sewing machines,” UNHCR’s Kenema sub-office head Ibrahima Coly said to loud cheers and applause. Coly encouraged the refugees to use their sewing machines to help them stitch together a new future and help others.

The majority of the group and their families have signed up to repatriate back to Liberia shortly, joining some 50,000 Liberian refugees from around West Africa who have now returned home since the official repatriation started. Back in Liberia, their sewing skills will be crucial to help them restart their lives.

“The future is now in your hands. Please make the best use of it. I would also like to appeal to you to kindly assist to train other refugees or returnees who were not privileged to get the machines. I wish you all good luck in your future career,” Coly told the happy graduates.

The main aim of the sewing project was to build the capacity of refugee nursing mothers, improving their nutritional status by giving them skills to generate income, says training programme coordinator Magdalene Dakowa of Catholic Relief Services. Another aim was for the sewing groups in each of the camps to produce 500 baby clothes for refugee children.

The initial six-month training project started in January 2004. The course was so successful that the trainees went on to produce children’s clothes for both refugees and host communities as a way of continuing their career development. During this period the women in Largo camp were contracted to produce school uniforms by one of UNHCR’s partners. The graduation ceremony marked the conclusion of their career training.

Funds for the project were also used to help 500 other refugee women improve their backyard gardening, again to help improve the nutritional status of the refugees.

At the graduation ceremony, five trainers of the project – three men and two women – also each received one machine. One of the trainers, Isata Koroma, came from the host community.

“The sewing machine that I have received will help me and my family,” said Isata. “I am a single mother. My husband was killed in the war in my country, Sierra Leone, and it has been really difficult for me to take care of our seven children. I am very grateful for this assistance.”

There are eight refugee camps in Sierra Leone hosting some 46,000 refugees, with most coming from Liberia’s most devastated Lofa County. With the positive changes taking place in Liberia UNHCR is now actively promoting voluntary repatriation for an estimated 160,000 Liberian refugees still outside their homeland. Some 46,000 Liberian refugees remain in camps in Sierra Leone with Largo camp hosting 5,300 refugees.
