Angelina Jolie: ‘Today Show’ Interview

Angelina Jolie sits down with NBC News’ Anny Curry to discuss her new movie A Mighty Heart, having a fourth child and losing her mom, Marcheline Bertrand.

Said a tearful Jolie, “This has been a heavy year in losing my mom and having a fourth child. I’m very aware of time and of memories and of doing and enjoying life, not just doing the right thing and being a useful person, which I certainly want to be and believe I am. I want to be a great mom like my mom was. And I want to also do the things that I love. So I’m at a strange place in my life. That happens when you lose a parent, where you drop into a different kind of serious. Yet at the same time, you want to enjoy and laugh as much as possible everyday. But I’m holding onto my family really tight at this moment because of that and trying to be as good a woman as I can be in my life. Dammit. You got me crying. (Curry apologizes) That’s alright. It’s part of life. … I lost my mom. It’s a natural thing for a child to lose a parent. I lost my mom too young, but it happened. And I’m happy she’s out of pain, because I love her and she’s my friend.”

Anyone who has doubts about the Jolie-Pitts please watch and listen to her words. If you don’t believe her and how heartfelt and honest she is, I can’t help you. I wish the whole family well.

You will be a great mother Angelina!!! You are a beautiful family :)

No matter what anyone says, the woman is obviously intelligent, caring and articulate. Kudos for bringing attention to the murder of a talented journalist in a manner I expect is going to be sensitive and compelling.

Thanks JJ!

Can’t wait to see the rest of the interview tonight!

Just the snippet I saw this morning made me cry for Angie. So glad she has the children, Brad, and Jamie.

Bless the Jolie-Pitts….

Her smile is lovely and infectious!

Jared :)
Thanks for all that you are doing here!!

i like Ann Curry’s interview too.
i saw the other interview she did with Angie when they were at the field.
And like some people said, i feel she like Angie too and is very sincere with her.
And Angie as always is just straightforward and honest in how she live her life.
“very solid, very warm family.”
i just admired how focus she is with life with her family. :)

Thanks to everyone who has provided all the wonderful links to pictures and videos and especially to you, Jared. I haven’t even been able to keep up enough to post. This was a very touching interview with Angelina. I am loving all the wonderful reviews A Mighty Heart has received, too. This was a huge risk for them both personally and professionally to film this movie IMO, and they seem to have done a great job. Much congratulations to them.

I love her :) That simple. I wish her nothing but the best as she continues her journey of Mom, actress, humanitarian, partner, sister, friend, woman and example.

Jared this is the first time I feel I want to slap you! you choose the worse screencap of angie! please change it.

OMG!! Have you seen the latest cover of the NATIONAL ENQUIRER???? They have the SAME false story that Randi from “Brad Pitt Watch” spread just to see what happen!! YEAH!! the National Enquirer STOLE this false rumor from that Randi from Brad Pitt Watch and the National Enquirer is even using the SAME picture that Randi use to spread the false rumor!! This shows how PATHETIC this tabloids really are!!!!

And of course, the most elite of the elite, the Oceans crew and Angelina holding court at the du Cap. Details coming….

I just saw the video of the Ann Curry interview it was so good. I can’t imagine what it is like to lose a parent but I truly felt Angie’s grief. I loved how she wouldn’t allow a comparison of what happened to MP and the lost of her mother. Also the PAPS following her and them following MP during that very difficult time. I thought that showed great compassion on her part. I also have to say I loved how Ann got the point across that the media focus on all things Brad/Angie is way over the top. Ann said she doesn’t know how Angie does it, that people wanted to interview her just because she was interviewing Angie and a guy got caught trying to jump over the fence. It was a really great interview I look froward to seeing the rest on dateline tonight.

Angelina Jolie: It’s Been a Heavy Year

WEDNESDAY MAY 23, 2007 10:10 AM EDT

The past months have offered tragedy and joy for Angelina Jolie.

“This has been a very heavy year, in losing my mom and having a fourth child,” the actress, 31, told Ann Curry in a Today show interview that aired Wednesday.

(Click here to watch a clip. The interview will continue Wednesday night on Dateline NBC.)

“I suppose I’m very aware of time and of memories and enjoying life,” Jolie continued, “not just doing the right thing and being a useful person – which I certainly want to be, and believe that I am.”

Recalling her mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand, who died in January at age 56 after a nearly 8-year battle with cancer, Jolie said: “I want to be a great mom like my mom was. And I also want to do things that I love.”

On Tuesday at the Cannes Film Festival, where she and Brad Pitt premiered their new movie, A Mighty Heart, Jolie told reporters she plans to take a year off from acting to spend time with her family: Pitt, 43, and kids Maddox, 5; Pax, 3; Zahara, 2; and Shiloh, who turns 1 on May 27.

(Jolie adopted Pax in March from Vietnam, and recently added a fourth line to the tattoo on her left arm that features coordinates for the birthplaces of all her children.)

“I’m in a strange, I suppose, place in my life,” Jolie told Curry. “I think that happens when you lose a parent, where you drop into a different kind of serious. And yet, at the same time, you want to laugh and enjoy as much as possible every day.”

To that end, she said, “I’m hanging on to my family really tight at this moment, and, because of that, trying to be as good a woman as I can be in my life.” At that point, Jolie broke down in tears. “Dammit,” she said, “you got me crying.”

Curry apologized, but Jolie, regaining her composure, said, “That’s alright. It’s part of life. … I lost my mom. It’s a natural thing for a child to lose a parent. I lost my mom too young, but it happened. And I’m happy she’s out of pain, because I love her and she’s my friend.”

Thanks Jared for the new thread. I loved it. It was a great interview, and emotional. I cried. She is indeed an incredible and amazing woman. I love her. I can’t wait to see the rest of the interview.

I have to say I found Ann Curry annoying and unprofessional.
Angelina was there to talk about “A Mighty Heart” and all the time Curry tried to steer the interview to talking about Brad and Angie by trying to suck up to her.To me it seemed she didn’t even care aboout the film or the Pearls she just wanted some candy details about Brad, Angelina and the kids! That is in my mind very unprofesional and disrespectful towards the crew, the film itself and the Pearls! But I loved Angelina’s way of dealing with it even thoough in my mind one could see she didn’t like where Curry tried to go and that she had to always force the conversation to the actual topic.

Ace Tomato @ 05/23/2007 at 10:32 am

Wow. I haven’t been through losing a parent yet in my life. Very sad.

I’m sure that Brad Pitt gave him a huge hug as soon as she finished the interview. It’s broke his heart to see her cry.

oh please
this was soooooooo fake and boring!!!!!!
she’s stupid and ridiculous

I think Ann knows what she can talk about to Angelina and Angelina and Brad always go back to her, so I think they trust her. She’s not annoying or unprofessional to me. Ann is their hand picked interviewer and they obviously like something about her. She does go into other subjects, but people also want to know about her private life.

#25 argh says:

I hope when you lose a parent people will be a little bit more compassionate to you then you are to a person who has recently lost her mother.

She make me cry and I love her even more!

In Touch cover says that 2 more babies are on their way.
