Like Angie said she is more concerned about her life and her family and the legacy she will leave behind. I’m quite sure if she spend time worrying about the press she would probrably end up in a rehab facilty somewhere like the rest of “young” holywood. Angie lives her life the way she wants and does not make any appologies for it (wish I could do that :)) and she doesnt need to… note how every other celeb who gets caught up in the press how they are a complete mess all the time, not many of them are strong enough to handle it all…Angie is one of the few, thats why they always blast her in the press (she has always been honest about what she does, and also admitted she was once a rebel) But they still cant “Break” her…go Angie, do yur thang. :)

If you don’t like Jared’s way of presenting material, why bother with his site altogether? It is his site after all. It gives him every prerogative. But then, your life must become pretty mundane without you getting your taste of bitterness.

It is BP and AJ’s world. Shiloh is a well loved baby in their world along with the well-loved children, Maddox,Pax and Zahara. US WEAKLY is trying to get a piece of it. Too bad, Too sad. They are poor plays who struts and frets about all things BAMPZS. US WEAKLY wants to be a playa but they come across as sour grapes and mean-spirited. Celeb Rag Shocker: Us’s Exposé Exposé!

Eleven months ago, In Touch magazine ran a “Breaking News” cover about Jennifer Aniston that declared “JEN LOOKS PREGNANT!”

In January, another cover blared: “FRIENDS WORRY BRITNEY’S PREGNANT.” In April, Katie Holmes got the treatment: “KATIE LOOKS PREGNANT AGAIN.”

In Touch wasn’t alone on the bump-watch front. In the space of one year, after Angelina Jolie gave birth to baby Shiloh, Life & Style, owned by the same company, announced four times that Jolie again looked pregnant, was trying to get pregnant, was wearing loose-fitting clothing or nixing foods that pregnant women avoid. In 2005, Star said Jessica Simpson was “Finally PREGNANT!” In 2006, OK! magazine screamed: “J.LO TO BE A MOM!” Yet during this blizzard of cover headlines, these stars had given birth only to bogus stories.

While breathless hype is hardly unknown in the celebrity-rag business, a rival’s finger-pointing campaign is rare indeed. Us Weekly recently started razzing the competition with such weekly spreads as “How They Faked the Baby ‘News.’ ”

“When we put it all together and saw how many times they’ve played this game of trickery, it was pretty shocking,” says Us Weekly Editor Janice Min. “Would you continue to buy laundry detergent that didn’t work week after week?”

Clearly, this is not simply an exercise in selfless investigative sleuthing. In fact, Jann Wenner, the media mogul who owns Us Weekly, ordered up the attacks. Min, whose factual track record is not unblemished, concedes that her attempt to tarnish the other magazines amounts to “a business decision.”

Editors at the other magazines refused to address the details. “Did I miss the memo from Us Weekly saying they want to edit everyone’s magazines now? They should concentrate on their own,” Richard Spencer, editor of In Touch, says in a statement.

Richard Valvo, a spokesman for Star, says the magazine “would never willfully or knowingly print anything that we deem not to be true.” He calls it “amusing” that Min “would single out publications in the same category as Us Weekly” in light of her own record of corrections. (More on that below.)

Life & Style editors declined to comment. A spokesman for OK! did not respond to a request for comment.

At stake in the sniping is market share in a burgeoning business that almost seems to outstrip the available supply of celebrity couplings and uncouplings. At the end of 2006, Us Weekly was selling 1.75 million copies a week, a 40 percent increase over three years earlier. Star’s circulation was 1.5 million, a 26 percent jump in three years. But the most dramatic increases were among two magazines launched in the last five years: In Touch (1.3 million), up 151 percent since 2003; and Life & Style (753,000), up 157 percent during that period. People remained the industry leader with sales of 3.7 million.

The formula is fairly simple. Stars must be seen falling in and out of love, cheating or being cheated on, dieting or blimping up, bouncing back or melting down. Weddings, divorces, pregnancies, births, drug problems and rehab stints are huge. The problem is that the two dozen or so first-name luminaries whose faces move magazines — Paris and Lindsay and Britney and Nicole and their boyfriends and ex-boyfriends — can stir up only so much intrigue week after week. So some of the magazines take liberties.

“It’s clear what the editorial agenda is — to spin fantasy under the illusion of news,” Min says.

But wouldn’t phony stories catch up with the publications that peddle them? “There is a market of women out there who just like looking at the photographs,” says Min. “I also think a lot of people just haven’t caught on.”

A review of the Us Weekly allegations shows that the other magazines have repeatedly published stories and speculation that turned out not to be true, but that they often leave themselves some wiggle room with words such as “may” or “looks” or “told friends.”

A recent Star “exclusive” on Cruise and Holmes was headlined “DIVORCE!,” with the subhead “Katie in tears.” So far, no split.

A Life & Style cover this month on Jolie was headlined “WHY SHE LEFT BRAD” (she hasn’t). The story said Jolie had told an unnamed friend that “it’s over,” and the “biggest reason” was Brad Pitt’s continuing relationship with ex-wife Aniston. A year ago, Life & Style said Pitt had told Aniston he was going to marry Jolie and that “Angie visited . . . Karl Lagerfeld” for her wedding gown. In Touch also keeps marrying them off. They remain unhitched.

OK! trumpeted the news last month that “J.LO & MARC SPLIT!,” reporting that Jennifer Lopez “and her husband of just under three years, Marc Anthony, 38, had called it quits.” Well, not so far. And these magazines rarely, if ever, run corrections.

Us Weekly patrols the same celebrity precincts but tends to word things more carefully. A cover this month on Cruise and Holmes was headlined “NO WAY OUT/In love with Tom, but confined by Scientology, a conflicted Katie struggles to find happiness.”

Rival executives, blaming the crusade on jealousy over their circulation growth, are happy to point to Us Weekly’s mistakes, although not with their names attached. Before Holmes and Cruise had their baby, Us Weekly reported that she was having a boy. Oops: a girl arrived instead.

“We have made reporting mistakes, like any news organization,” Min says. “We have corrected them in the magazine. When it does happen, we’re mortified.”

Us Weekly also reported that Cruise and Holmes had bought an estate near London. You needed a magnifying glass to read the correction.

There are also creative ways of dealing with a scoop that falls flat as a souffle. After a big “VINCE PROPOSES!/Jen Says Yes” cover — which Min insists was true, including the selection of a ring — Us Weekly had to confront the apparent lack of an engagement. The solution was a followup story: “VINCE BACKS OUT.”

In all honesty none of us should be buying any of these magazines. The lies are unbelievable. If we stopped supporting these magazines they might start telling the truth. Us just a few weeks ago was talking about how Angie was selling her children pictures for attention etc. and then a couple of weeks later you would buy this magazine! And think about this. If the pizza box thing is true that means that someone that they trust a boydguard, holly, or someone is talking about them. Who knows what goes on in these homes but these people. And thanks Christmas Morning for the NPR heads up. Found the interview. It was film critic John Powers on Fresh Air. He really liked the film. What was interesting though was his comments about Angie which sounded similar to Allen Barra, who wrote that Salon.com article posted on one of the recent threads. Here’s what Powers said.

“The one problem is that I personally find Angelina Jolie so vast a screen presence, which is distinct from being an actress, that it’s very hard to see her playing somebody you know as a real person. Because even when she’s acting well she’s just so Angelina Jolie that you feel she should be on Mt. Olympus rather than some apartment someplace. For me that’s the most interesting thing about her career. How do you find roles that seem big enough for her because somehow she just pops on the screen? When’s she’s there you’re watching her and nothing else.”

So, this week we get another exciting look at the same old stories. To spare you the pain of actually reading any of them, we bring you the 15-second synopsis.

Jessica and John Mayer had a grand cry-fest in Cabo, San Lucas and are (probably!) over. Meanwhile, the dumb one from The Hills is marrying her annoying shark-toothed boyfriend, while Matthew McConaughey (who kind of looks like a monkey) continues to prance around shirtless, sometimes with Indian warpaint.

Finally, the tabs all honed in on Brad and Angelina for the millionth week in a row and said pretty much the same things on Lindsay Lohan (troubled starlet loves coke, needs intervention, etc.)

US Weekly
• Surprise, surprise—we get another issue filled with Brad and Angelina. And by filled, we mean 6 full pages, which is pretty much a novel by Janice Min’s standards. While the article will put the average person to sleep, we do commend Kevin O’Leary for really putting together a well sourced piece—unlike, say, the Reader’s Digest anonymous insider extravaganza nary two weeks back. And what did we learn? We learned that, as much as Brad and Angelina are trying to make people think that their family is “normal,” they’re still two ultra famous, exorbitantly overpaid superstars, with four nannies and enough diversity to land a United Colors Of Benetton campaign. Also, we learned that Us loves to change its mind! A few weeks ago, they bitched about Angelina’s utter lack of care for daughter Shiloh, noting that the two were never photographed in the same room together. Now, O’Leary paints her as the ideal mother—one who wakes up early just to spend alone time with her.
• Also, Gabe Guarente writes a nice recap of the last few coke-fueled, sloppy-drunk, days of Lindsay Lohan’s trainwreck carwreck existence. The article kind of makes us feel bad for the girl, until it reminds us that Lohan has a big lesbian foul mouth and she can probably drink us all under the table.
• Lastly, the happily married couple, Brittany Murphy and that creepy older guy, may not be as “picture perfect” as they seem. (Kidding, they’ve always sort of skeeved us out). And now, after getting married just after a few months, reports are surfacing that Murphy’s man is a lying, cheating scum bag. A court will decide on July 12th if he is to be deported to the U.K., where he will—presumably—be taken under the wing of European scumbags, like Robbie Williams. Also, it’s weird to look back and reflect on Murphy and Ashton Kutcher’s bizarre coupling. Which, when you think about it, isn’t really that strange when you consider that Britney’s marrying a con artist and Ashton is already married to much-older MILF, Demi Moore.

In Touch
• Instead of taking the “Angelina is a God route” this week, In Touch speculates on her ever-fluctuating weight, a fantastic way of reminding the world that no one in the Pitt/Jolie clan would answer their voicemails. Angelina blames her near 20 lb weight loss on running after her four children, which In Touch translates to mean that she is a self-destructive lunatic. [Ed: Who cares? Isn’t Brad “Mr. Mom” anyway?]
• In addition, we learn that Lindsay Lohan is typically a drunk, but that she also occasionally dabbles in unidentified powdery substances. More imporantly, Lindsay wears a “yellow bullet.” No, not the food processing machine, but rather “a small device that discreetly dispenses cocaine into the nostrils.” And here we were starting to question her intelligence.
• Lastly, we find out that Britney Spears and her mother Lynne won’t be patching things up anytime soon. Apparently, K-Fed, Shar, Lynne, and Jamie all hung out together at the Dancing with the Stars finale. Which sounds slightly cute, until you realize that Britney’s mom is choosing her ex-family over her.

Life & Style
• Apparently Brad and Angelina have secretly separated, and have agreed to take turns parenting their brood of adoptees. Also, apparently Life & Style alone has the “exclusive” on their troubled relationship. And apparently, they’ve failed to consider the possibility that Brad and Angelina have been photographed separately with the children because each have ridiculously busy schedules, befitting that of a really famous superstar couple.
• Sadly, Life & Style falls short of its competition, and gives us a tiny blip about Lindsay Lohan’s recent car-in-ditch Memorial Weekend spectacular.
• And finally, to prove that Posh Spice is a malnourished, attention-seeking *****, we get a nice little look at Posh’s new reality T.V. show. The premise: watching a monotonous, anorexic woman buy shoes in L.A. Where’s our DVR remote??

• Star, like In Touch, chooses to focus their energies on Angelina’s weight this week, however Star’s two-pager packs a much better punch. Among the highlights: While Angelina may be nourishing her malnourished adopted children, experts say that she’d better start taking care of herself. Otherwise? She’ll end up having “a nervous breakdown,” warns Star. Which, presumably, would be far crazier than being “totally in love” with her brother, carrying around a vial of Billy Bob Thornton’s blood and adopting every toddler in a 175 country radius.
• Meanwhile, in typical “Star” fashion, the glossy is not only reporting on Lindsay’s DUI, but is also quick to inform us that Blowhan has attempted suicide twice in the weeks prior to the accident. Which actually makes us feel legitimately sorry for Lindsay, whose attempts at self-imposed death apparently involved slitting her wrists and downing an entire bottle of Advil. Yep, in just one page, Star has definitely delivered, and the alcohol abuse, drugs, car crashes, lesbian lovers, and attempted suicide are enough to make our eyes tear up, and piss the hell out of Life & Style, for not thinking of it first.
• We also get a feature about Jennifer Aniston’s forthcoming new book. It must be fascinating to know all about Jen’s life! So, naturally, we’ll just wait for the tabs to tell us everything that’s in it.

OK!
• OMG, wait—OK! got an exclusive interview with Brad Pitt? Oh wait, they actually just snagged an invite to the Ocean’s 13 press junket, [Ed: Which is still a pretty big deal for OK!] Of course, all we get is a boring snoozefest about the actors’ respective charities of choice. Which is nice, in a philanthropic sense, but disappointing under the circumstances. (When we see a front page header reading, “Brad speaks his mind.” we want Angelina, not Darfur, dammit!)
• Also, OK! has a two page article totally contrasting Life & Style’s report that Brad and Angelina are, in fact, a “solid” family. (But wait! Tabloids are never wrong!)
• Meanwhile, we discover that OK! is almost as ****** at reporting breaking news as L&S. Their article couldn’t have been more basic—two pages to say that Lindsay needs attention?? Groundbreaking stuff, OK!.
• Wow, a two page Paula Abdul interview sent straight from her publicist’s wireless handheld device! Please forgive us for not reading this.
• And finally, a two page Star Jones interview with…Star Jones. Again, please forgive us for also not reading this.

Janice Min has no respect for her readers and it’s soooo very sad that people keep forking over their hard earned cash to her and her evil empire (have I stated how much I loved that evil empire thing?)

Im a bit on the thin side, and have had people make comments about my weight that I find insulting. This is my natural weight.. im naturally small boned and petite. Why is it ok to criticize thin people but not ok to do the same with overweight people? I think it is wrong to make fun of people, regardless of size.

Every thin person out there does NOT have an eating disorder… and for those that do…showing their pics and saying they look too skinny, only “feeds” the disease.

My point is that, right now, spotting thinner celebrities are like a sport, a bent form of recreation for the tabs. And yet, if there was any inkling that their main targets were really ill, they would just point out that ‘they’ were the first ones to spotlight the problem.

Hence, my assessment of celebs like Richie, Bosworth, as being the center of fun smut. Because as soon as there any real hint of personal struggle, whether emotional, spiritual or physical, the tabs are out of there… until after all of that tedious hard work is out of the way; then comes the survivor tale/triumph of the human spirit stuff.

Why wasn’t Lindsay Lohan a bigger story this week?

Angelina Jolie Applauds US Increase for Orphans Funding, But Says There Is More to Be Done

WASHINGTON, May 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Angelina Jolie, Honorary Board Chair of Global Action for Children (GAC), applauded President Bush’s increase for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) funding, but cautioned that there is more work to be done. The President called on Congress today to provide $30 billion in funding for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, including care for OVC, over a five year period after the President leaves office. This doubles the current funding of $15 billion over five years which expires in 2008.

With regard to the increase for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, Ms. Jolie said, “We are all very grateful that the President has made this major commitment to these children. These are the world’s children and this is the world’s responsibility, and we hope that other G-8 countries will follow his lead. I will continue to actively lobby on behalf of these children and encourage Congress to follow through on this commitment.”

JessO, I agree that if we don’t buy the tablies (not just the negative stories), then they might print something else or cease to exist. Same with the gossip blogs.

However, let’s not use the “she’s just doing her job” as an excuse for the nastiness of their trade. Hired murderers are just doing their jobs, drug couriers are just doing their jobs. And so Meanie and her ilk are just doing their job being character assassins?

Also, for Meanie’s (and others like her), there are many ways to do this job without bringing in the nastiness. People, Hello magazine can do it. One reason why I buy their magazines and come to Jared is, they aren’t deliberately nasty. that’s why I don’t bother with Ted c or TMZ or Perez or Dlisted. they are almost always NASTY. Lainey gets it right sometimes so I still give her hits.

But the rest of the gossip trade, they FABRICATE NASTY stories and put the WORST SPIN on any bit of news. For me, the turning point came when the gossip writers wrote snarky things about Lindsay Lohan photographed showing that she had been clearly cutting herself. I’m not a Lohan fan. But she seems to have awful exploitative parents and no, I’m not basing this on gossip writers. (Facts: Lindsay’s father who has just come out of jail? Lindsay’s mother who takes a film crew into Lindsay’s rehab?? come on.) These gossip writers could only laugh at someone in that level of distress?? What sort of person are you really if your conscience doesn’t cause you to flinch when you laugh at someone in distress and you justify it as “just doing my job”. Why should I respect these people’s work?

What I wont do is say nasty things about their families, about their skills as a mother or their loyalty as a friend etc because that would bring me down to their level. But I sure as hell believe it is fair and right to criticise the way they handle their JOBS. I also think it is fair to wonder (as some people do when they ask whether Meanie has children), just what sort of values they give to their children when they can do their job the way they do it and write the things that they do. Because, really, would you do MEANIE’s job this way? Would you conscience even let you? Mine couldn’t. I’d take a pay cut and do something else.

As for Angelina and Brad, I actually don’t care what nasty things they write about this couple. And from the way ordinary people like even the latest American Idol Jordin whatsername, say that Angelina IS A ROLE MODEL, I don’t think all these tablies are making any impression. You see, I don’t think MEANIE is right to think that people havent caught on to the tablies lies. may be those who buy A*S weakly haven’t. I think the average girl does know. But they buy the magazines because they like the photos, just like some people want to do here because Shiloh looks just so gorgeous:-)

This small thing speaks volume about who Brad and Angie are at home in front of the children. It really shows how strong the relationship between them is as parents and what a great family they are building.
Zahara didn’t say ” I’ll go to Daddy if you don’t want to give me a cookie” as most kids will do. Instead she tells Angie: Daddy’s gonna cry. She knows how Angie will do everything for Brad and doesn’t want him sad because she loves him and will never do anything to hurt him. It’s amazing how kids pick up on these things.

anyway, its really up to B&A fans whether to buy the mag or not. Its already there, its not as if Us weekly will stop with what its doing if the cover wont sell.
