The Lucky Stars of Ocean’s 13
Time Magazine sat down with some of the stars of Ocean’s 13 — Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Ellen Barkin — on the terrace at the Hotel du Cap in Cannes, France.
Here’s are some funny excerpts:
On the subject of charisma, you’ve each been called the last great movie star at one point or another. Are we really running out of movie stars, and is that, like, a problem?
CLOONEY: The last real movie stars were probably Redford and Newman. And things were different then. There wasn’t this amazing amount of magazines and information about them.
DAMON: We didn’t know anything about them.
CLOONEY: There was mystique. They’re 60 feet high, and you paid your buck and a half to go see them. But that’s gone. People know everything about everybody now.
PITT: Jaws came along and proved you could make huge money with blockbusters, and it set this thing in motion that has lowered the subject matter. People like George have been getting good stuff out there, but it’s an industry that pushes people out on the big stage too fast, before they’re ready, and it eats them up as well. It’s a different kind of arena now.
BARKIN: Think about it. Do we know anything about Robert Redford’s children? Does he even have any?
DAMON: I worked with him, and I don’t know.
PITT: I have four, if you haven’t heard.
As we’re talking, there are paparazzi in boats out in the harbor taking pictures. Having just been through the celebrity muck of Cannes, who gets it the worst?
CLOONEY: There’s no question, it’s Brad.
PITT: Well, exponentially, with us together …
CLOONEY: But even before he was with [Angelina Jolie], we used to chum the water with him.
PITT: This is not a joke. They used to send me out to take the hits.
CLOONEY: We were at the airport in Italy. So I walk off the plane, and it’s “Hey, Giorgio!” And I go, “Look! Brad Pitt!” and they’re gone.
DAMON: You described it once as “People were stepping on our faces trying to get to Brad.”
PITT: Ah, well, I don’t take it as a compliment.

“[Jennifer] is doing so good,” longtime friend Kathy Najimy recently told PEOPLE. “She’s fantastic. Couldn’t be better.”
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I don’t know if I am able to explain the things in my mind with my poor English. Let’s give a try.
When I read what’s said by Kathy Najimy (by the way, who on earth is she?), I said to myself, Jen has STILL not moved on and forward.
What her friend said sounded to me like an explanation to THE famous “triangle” situation.
What her friend said sounded to me as if Jen and her people are still trying to prove that Jen is indifferent concerning the Jolie-Pitts but keep on mentioning them without saying their names.
What her friend said sounded to me so unnecessary. Because if Jen is really doing so good, fantastic, couldn’t be better, as a friend of her you don’t need to say it. It will show itself (if anyone out there still wants to see her anyway).
If Jen is seeing anyone particularly I would just say: “AMEEN!” Noone should lose the hope :)
For Perez Hilton, he was only being sarcastic, he is not mean towards the Jolie-Pitts.
I love that A-Rod is stealing all the gossip headlines this week.

Dear Ted:
You gave Angelina Jolie a “Hottie” rating on your Do Me Meter, and I have to agree. She looked absurdly gorgeous in her Cannes photos. But did you get a chance to see how skinny her arms and legs reveal her to be? With all the talk about Kate Bosworth and Nicole Richie and their Ginsu-sharp clavicles, why is there no mention of Jolie or Jessica Alba for that matter?

Dear Caloric Queen:
There has been some chitchat ’bout Angie’s plummeting pounds in the goss rags, but I guess till she accidentally drops a kid on the safari caravan she’s off the hook.

please i don’t understand what Ted casablanca mean englsh is my second language. thanks in advance
*****************************************
I’m taking this to mean that until she actually does something really bad, such as dropping one of her children, like Britney did, she gets a free pass from him.
To which I say, it’s about damn time some of these gossip columnists start recognizing that Angie isn’t doing anything to be criticized for especially when compared to the pop tart brigade currently marching by. I hope the double standard that is used against Angie constantly will slowly recede.
I don’t how well angelina’s vogue issue sold but you can find reliable info about numbers at wwd and adage.

Drangonfly,
Hi, I am trying to read your explanation with my “calm” daughter (I just wrote this to make you understand how I am right now), for the explanation of Ted’s respond: if Angie does something really bad, how does she get a free pass from Ted? Doesn’t “off the hook” mean “to set someone free”?
If Angie does something really bad, all of them will be on her neck endlessly, right?
OK, now I have to listen my daugher’s explanation for this
The little People square on the cover, was a big purchase for Huvane. He had to beg and plead and plead and beg. People usually doesn’t dabble in nothing stories, and obvious PR stunts - so he really pulled out all the big guns…that little NON-story, really had all the elements; the friend ‘insisting’ Jen is doing great, like she just came through a couple rounds of chemo, the nothing ‘date’ with some anonymous dude who (gasp! shock!) held her hand briefly at one point and rubbed her back at another (oooooh, can you feel the heat?!), and the final cryptic “Still, it’s not as if Aniston needs a man to be happy.”
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I doubt Huvane had to beg, if you haven’t notice People magazine is on the “how is jen doing” train for a month (magazine and online), just like usweekly. Fact is People magazine wants to play good with brangelina and aniston. They want it all. Who do you think its going to be the first to run a story about how great this guy is for her, with full name and of course quotes of her friends? People magazine! Finally people magazine core audience are housewifes who most of them love Oprah and love aniston, no need to beg anything, for people magazine, she sells just fine.
Waitress set for stardom after Clooney sing-song
LONDON (Reuters) - An 18-year-old waitress and part-time jazz singer is in line for a multi-million dollar record deal after performing for George Clooney at the Cannes film festival.
Victoria Hart, whose day job involves working for tips at the little-known Naked Turtle restaurant in London, was flown to Cannes earlier this month after a friend-of-a-friend put her name forward to sing at a charity event.
Her performance in front of Hollywood stars including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Clooney, who described her as “simply lovely,” won her international acclaim and now major record labels EMI and Universal are battling to sign her.
“We’re getting very close — a deal is not far away at all,” Hart’s agent Lynne Pearson told Reuters from her home in Switzerland.
“It’s always very difficult to talk about specific figures, but it will be a very big deal when it is announced.”
British newspapers put the figure at $3 million.
Hart, a blonde bombshell whose singing style is a mixture of jazz and swing, has been performing since an early age but her set at Cannes, in front of the cast of “Ocean’s 13″ to raise money for Darfur, was a major breakthrough.
The Naked Turtle, which is keeping a job open for her in case she ever wants to return, is holding a party for her on Wednesday night to celebrate her good fortune and the fact that the restaurant’s trade is suddenly booming.
“We’re going to miss her,” the manager said. “Although Victoria’s a great singer she’s also a fantastic waitress.”

No, what I said was “until she actually does something really bad” such as endangering her kids, like dropping them off a safari caravan on one of her many trips to Africa, Ted is saying he isn’t going to give her any grief or criticism for merely being thin. In his opinion being thin isn’t a reason to rag on her.
Letting someone “off the hook” yes, does mean to set someone free, but it also means to let them get away with some minor offense without punishing them for it.
Mind you, this is just my interpretation of Ted’s remarks. He usually is pretty favorable lately about Brad and Angie.
If you can’t figure out that Stephen Huvane had Kathy Njimay offer up that alleged sighting in Santa Monica to People you’re realy naive. Coinicidence that Smart Water announces yesterday that she’s going to be shilling for them? Come on people. Aniston needs all the press she can get considering her career is in the self inflicted toliet
I took Ted to mean that even though people say she’s frail and thin, she’s still living her life at full speed and carrying two toddlers and walking just fine. There is no reason to be concerned since she is just the same as she always was.
Who Kathy Nijmay is?
I never heard about her before.
to Kate,
The story between the mortal and the god has always been fascinating for the housewives, it’s kind of a fairtale they wish to have since their mother called them a princess.
This is the reason some people can’t let go the story of Jen the mortal and Brad the god, the average girl and Prince Charming! Nobody would like to have a shattered childhood dream.
Some other people might wondering how Jen was doing because after a certain time, you can even get used to having a manipulative victim in your life.
I am sorry about my grammatical mistakes! :) Have to go to the park!

Exactly. Some idiots at FF said a while back that the Vogue didn’t sale any copies because they went into a Wal-Mart and saw the copies there. Then they think that’s evidence enough that the magazine didn’t sell. The only way we really know is if something is released (like they did with the Shiloh People mag issue) or like you said, a publicist sends out reports of how much the mag sells.
*******************************
Wal-Mart? They went to friggin’ Wal-Mart and made that brillant conclusion? LMAO!! Well that just sums it up right there, doesn’t it? The FF cows live and die by what is within the hallowed walls of Wal-Mart. Typical of the Oprah/Jen fan base.
I can tell you at Barnes & Noble, Publix, Media Play, and CVS Angie’s Vogue sold out. If we cared enough to do the research we could come up with these numbers from multiple sources to prove it, but we already know it sold as well as anything else. It certainly didn’t undersell.
I sit here and laugh at the haterazzi who come in these threads and proclaim, with such all-knowing authority, that this or that project related to Brad and Angie is a “flop” because they misread one review. Of course one of the JJ regulars just hands them their azz on a platter by reporting correct figures from more than one reuptable source and the poor little troll just slinks away, only to return another time with another bogus, badly-researched report for us to shatter. Ah yes, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel.
The funniest instance of this was when this one chick posted a picture of Marcheline from the 70’s and held it up as irreputable PROOF that Angie had plastic surgery! HAHAHHAAA!! And yes, it was my first time handing someone their cyber azz on a platter…and it was sweet. ;)!
Good morning everyone :) This interview was funny and I love how they work off of each other so well. Also, I after I finished reading I thought, “Awww, Brad’s so nice” lol Susie and OC know what I’m talking about.
Thanks again to everyone who’s viewed and rated my latest video :)

Thanks for the video. It seems like Brad spent a lot of time signing autographs, which is very considerate, given his A-List status. Angelina is the same way.

The reason why FF/haters fixate on numbers is because some of us are fixated on them. Since those who ‘proclaimed’ the importance of numbers rarely follow up, the haters swoop in here and lay out false numbers.
A possible solution is not to put such store into numbers sold and just buy the magazine and enjoy the article/interview/photos.

If Wal-mart is someone’s barometer of how well a magazine sells, then you’d have to come to the conclusion that NO MAGAZINE sells of the rack. Everytime I go to my local Wal-marts the racks of full of all the tabs and just about every other mag, too.
However, when I went to buy the Vogue with Angie on the cover I struck out at 3 Wal-marts, 4 grocery stores, Barnes & Nobles, Target, and a local book store. I finally went back to Barnes & Nobles and the guy told me the had to order more and it took 3 days to get them in.
Leave it to the FFers to assume that because their local Wal-mart had the mag that it meant EVERY store still had mags. How do they know the magazine vendor hadn’t just stocked the shelves? What a bunch of dolts.
Good Morning everyone!

Damon rocks! He’s classy, witty, and still appreciative of all that he has in terms of professional success. He handles the paps with style and grace, and he doesn’t draw attention to himself unnecessarily. Oh yeah, and he can ACT! IMO, he’s one of the strongest actors of our generation…right along up there with Christian Bale, Edward Norton, and Leo DiCaprio.
Personally, the limelight and hullaballoo that surround Clooney and Pitt repels me and keeps me from watching or renting anything they’re in. I refuse to spend a dime or my time on their work…they obviously have many other fans to fill their coffers. I also could care less about their politics and their causes. I don’t need them to remind me why it’s important to educate myself and care about the world I live in…I do that already. If people only care about causes because celebrities do, their interest will wax and wane with the cycle of the moon.
Clooney, Damon barrack for Obama
Ocean’s Thirteen cast members George Clooney and Matt Damon have come out in support of US Democrat presidential contender Barack Obama.
The two made the call as part of an interview in this week’s Time magazine.
Clooney has not made a secret of his admiration for Obama, and has shared a stage with him in the past, but it is the first time Damon is known to have spoken out on the subject.
Fellow interviewee Brad Pitt revealed he is still sitting on the fence politically.
The Cannes interview, ostensibly to promote their new film, took a sideways swerve into politics with a tongue-in-cheek question.
“I’m sure like most actors you’re all watching the Republican field, just waiting for a candidate to get behind,” mused Time’s interviewer.
“I’m just hoping Gingrich gets in. Come on, Newt!” joked Clooney. “Actually there’s a really good field out there. I like Barack Obama a lot. I’ve spent some time with him.”
The following discussion then ensued.
PITT: You just cost him votes.
CLOONEY: I’ve actually had that conversation with him, just saying “Look, I’ll give you whatever support you need - including staying completely away from you.” Actors have done a lot of damage to candidates lately. My father ran for Congress in 2004, and it was “Hollywood vs. the Heartland!” My father was Hollywood.
PITT: I’m just hungry for some honesty and leadership. And I’m following them all - on all sides.
DAMON: I’m an Obama guy too. I think a lot of the problems in the world would be mitigated if he were the face of our country. I haven’t ever met him or talked to him, but he’s the first person in a long time who I’ve been inspired by.
CLOONEY: When other politicians stop and listen, that’s how you know what charisma is. You can’t teach that. He walks into a room and you go, “That’s a leader.”
The US elections are due in November, 2008.
