I am ashamed of all you women who claim to “suppport” breastfeeding, so long as it’s done out of the public eye. This is what Breasts are MADE for, and I really doubt you’d have the same issues if a woman is feeding a child from a bottle. If you wouldnt ask a woman who is bottle feeding her infant to cover (smother) the child while eating, don’t do it for a breastfeeding mother, regardless of how squeemish your puritanistic mind is, that’s PREJUDICE and SEGRAGATION. THe latter of which, was illigal, the last time I checked.
In fact, in most states, if you ask a breastfeeding mother to leave a public place because of her breastfeeding, YOU are breaking the law. Suck on that you low minded, puratinistic sorry excuses for women.

to all the critics:
the idea of people criticizing a mother for breastfeeding! wanting her to hide in a room somewhere and cover herself up. that’s what breasts are for, to feed babies, not to tittilate men. what’s obscene are those women who undergo surgery just to make their breasts bigger! why don’t you criticize bush and company for invading iraq and causing the death of 665,000 people.now that’s obscene. your sense of morality is so PERVERTED! you don’t know the difference between right and wrong. how sad for the world

breasts are for feeding babies. why shouldn’t she be able to in public? if you think it’s disgusting, then you need to mature a little bit.

It is so nice to see someone with such a chaotic schedule commit to breastfeeding!

I can’t imagine what kind of place in life people would have to be in to be upset with someone breastfeeding their baby! Not only is it the way we are designed to care provide for our babies, it is also the most wonderful way to bond.

I would love to see some NON-paparazzi photos of mom and baby breastfeeding!

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with breastfeeding in public. It is NATURAL! What is NOT natural is that women have to hide to feed their children naturally!! What is accepted in public is feeding ones baby with a baby bottle! This is completely ludicrous that the NATURAL and HEALTHIEST way of feeding babies is viewed in such a way!! Cow milk is not as good as human milk! We make fun of ‘backwards’ contries where women wear burqas, but even though in the West most women don’t wear burqas, we can’t show our breasts in public while men can be barechested if they want, just because our berasts are considered to be sexual objects! This is cultural, there are non Western countries where men have ZERO interest in breasts. From these peoples viewpoint, Western culture can be viwed as backwards when it comes to how breasts are treated and hidden away from the view, because they could turn on men!! This is the SAME reasoning as making women wear burqas so that they don’t turn on men!! All of you people who think she is doing something wrong are just as backwards as the Talibans and you are SICK in the head!

Isn’t it interesting that you can see sexed-out breasts in the window of a Victoria’s Secret on streets and malls throughout America, and yet breastfeeding a baby in public is considered gross and inconsiderate by many who posted these comments. I guess that when breasts are used for something other than titillating men, some people feel threatened and angry.

If you don’t like it, don’t look

Breastfeeding is natural. If you don’t like it, don’t look. Breasts are for feeding infants, they’re not sex toys. If this bothers you, you need to get comfortable in your own skin. Rock on women who BF in public- babies get hungry no matter where they are and they deserve to eat!

and also:

“So freakin disrespectful for the patrons at that restaurant. People are so self-entitled.”

How are you not being self-entitled by demanding that the child eat in a different manor for your personal comfort?

GOOD FOR HER!!!! Breastfed babies should be breastfed ANYTIME ANYWHERE!!!! Only stupid idiots stick a bottle in their poor babies mouth when they are in public!

Hey all you people saying to cover up, FYI, some babies just scream because they get too hot when they’re covered up–I know mine does!!! So umm, screaming, hungry, uncomfortable baby, or happy, quiet, peaceful, content nursing baby? I’ll take the latter thank you. Babies should be fed naturally (at the breast) on demand, not when and how it’s covenient for Mom. The only time they should be given bottles is when Mom’s not able to be around to give baby breast. And FYI, that’s what normal lactating breasts look like. They’re not ugly. All you moms who were too lazy to take the time to connect with your babies to by breastfeeding have ugly breasts! Don’t get me wrong, if there’s a DAMN GOOD medical reason why you can’t breastfeed, by all means, bottle feed. But otherwise, save yourselves the cost of formula and medical bills and give your baby what he or she is born expecting: BREASTMILK!!!!!!! And give it on demand when baby wants it, not when it’s convenient for you. If breastfeeding is inco0nvenient, PLEASE DON’T HAVE BABIES!!!

“YIKES to the weirdo who breastfed to the child was 3 .. kids have their full set of teeth by 1 yrs old. Nothing wrong with a bond but come on 3 yrs old, did the child walk up to and ask for a breast? I am down for breast feeding but when they are old enough to ask for it, that is too long and more of issue about the mother then the kid.”

Yeah whatever, it’s called attachment parenting! World Health Org. suggests bfing until AT LEAST 2 years of age. I fully intend to allow my baby to nurse as long as she would like. Why should I force her to wean? More than likely she’ll wean next time I get pregnant, but if she doesn’t, that’s ok, too. In fact, in most countries, it’s quite normal to breastfeed babies for far longer than one year. Besides, if more babies were breastfed that long, maybe they’d be old enough to form memories of breasts being for food and not think of them as sexual objects when they’re adults, ESPECIALLY boys.

The one thing I would say to Maggie, ditch the stroller and get a sling. They’re cheaper and babies usually prefer to be held close to Mommy.

Absoletly Gorgeous!! Good for Maggie, she is using her breast for what they are intended to do..feed her child.

You people who say this is “disgusting” need to get a grip on reality. Breasts were made for feeding a baby. Breastfeeding is beautiful and shouldn’t be hidden underneath a blanket. I chose to be discreet when nursing but if more people openly breastfed maybe people would start seeing breastfeeding as the beautiful thing that it is!! Go Maggie!!

You’re right, Wendy. You know, we could go to any other country and this wouldn’t even be an issue! Only in America is it perfectly acceptable to have SI Swimsuit Edition and Playboy on the shelves, but when Babytalk has a picture of a breast being used for, GOSH, breastfeeding (!) there’s a huge public outcry!

Women have babies and produce milk for them I dont have kids but when I do I will not deny my baby where ever we may be because of some idiot who thinks breasts are made only for sex. I think Id cover up more but have you ever tried to control a hungry 8 month old? Yeah you’re luck only her breast was out!

I just lost respect Maggie G. Sure, feed your kid, but no one wants to see you plop a saggy breast out in public.

Love it. I applaud her for using her breasts as they were designed. So she showed a bit more skin than usual, or than I probably did when nursing. Maybe it was a slip-up, or the photos were snapped in 2 seconds before she pulled her jacket over. But it’s not as though she *took off her entire top* to nurse her baby.

Breasts are for feeding babies.

“YEAH! It is so nice to see women who chose to breastfeed. I personally nurse in public all of the time, but I do cover up. Know why? Because I would hate for one of the idiots that posted comments here to come up and say something to me. It would be a little hard to beat somebody’s ignorant ass while holding my 8 month old!”

LOVE IT! Great comment! I feel exactly the same way :)

I’m happy to see so many people supporting breastfeeding in the comments here! What she’s doing is perfectly fine IMO, and not a big deal. I think the angle of the photo is in a position to show more breast than most people around her could actually see. Anyone disgusted by this is weird–if this is gross to see then watching a baby eat from a bottle should gross you out too (it’s the same thing, a baby eating). Comparing a baby eating to going to the bathroom is weird too–compare a baby eating to any other baby mammal eating. I guess watching them eat should gross you out as well. Seeing a baby human being eating where other human beings eat is appalling? Wow. Pictures in the National Geographic show more boob than Maggie is here.

ehhh that is a pretty unflattering pic. breastfeeding in public’s fine, but i do think she cd be a little more discreet abt it - cover her boob wth a cloth, or sumthin

Kudos Maggie! Maybe when more celebs nurse in public, the stigma will lessen.

To all of you who think its disgusting, I certainly hope you lobby against Victoria’s Secret commercials on TV and other TRULY “inconsiderate” and “disgusting” things celebs do in public everday!

Nurse on mammas, Nurse on!

Oh, c’mon. Women have been breastfeeding since time began. Before this decade, and maybe the last one, mothers miraculously found a way to nurture their babies in a preferred private manner.

While I can’t imagine anyone finding fault with a mother nursing her baby, I do know that some would find it uncomfortable to be present.

While some may want to believe that previous generations in our culture were too rigid, uptight, about what they expected from society, like it or not, they have earned a respect which the present generations have thrown away.

Now we have legalized abortion, hate crime laws, political correctness Nazis, bans on religion, 50+% divorce rate, an unconsciounable number of children living in fatherless homes, and plenty of other mistakes which are directed toward the destruction of America.

Maybe we need to go back and take some wisdom from those who preceded us.

God, that is so hot. I wish more women were as open about it and just let us see it. It’s natural.
