Angelina Jolie @ “A Mighty Heart” Screening
Angelina Jolie stands beside co-star Dan Futterman and Judea and Ruth Pearl (Daniel Pearl’s parents) at a special benefit screening of A Mighty Heart on Wednesday at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, Calif. (Bigger picture inside…)
“I hope we got some part of Danny’s life and spirit in this movie,” Jolie said to Judea and Ruth. “I hope that we have made something that speaks to you and to his work.”
The sold-out event raised more than $15,000 for the Daniel Pearl Foundation which was formed in memory of journalist Daniel Pearl and is committed to promoting cross-cultural understanding through journalism, music, and innovative communications.
Just Jared caught a screening of A Mighty Heart last night and let’s just say it was beyond moving. [Spoilers ahead!] The documentary-style drama is very real and very emotional. The UK Times summed up the editing best: “The director’s rapid-fire and choppy editing gives you a genuine feel for the many different sides of Karachi, and the urgency of the investigation.”
Angie’s screams of anguish as Marianne Pearl are intense and will have you writhing in your theater seat. Memorable moments include the wedding flashback scene, Angelina dancing (with a bit of tummy showing, if I remember correctly) and the birthing scene of son Adam.
But don’t fret my pets, the ending scene is sweet. There are captions of “current updates” about the Pearls as you watch the backs of Marianne and Adam walking away hand-in-hand. The music also perfectly matched up — I was whistling the tune on my way out of the theater!
A Mighty Heart opens June 22. Catch it if you can!

Clooney, Pitt shun heat of Hollywood spotlight
Red-hot stars prefer low profile while younger celebs make headlines
NEW YORK - George Clooney says he couldn’t handle the pressure that young Hollywood stars face today.
“If I were as famous as some of those kids who are on the magazines right now at 21 years old, I’d be shooting crack under my eyeball,” the 46-year-old actor says in an interview in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine, on newsstands Monday.
Clooney and Brad Pitt, his co-star in “Ocean’s Thirteen,” aim to keep a low profile in their everyday lives. In present-day celebrity culture, however, a younger generation of media magnets courts the cameras — and often delivers the most tantalizing — and unflattering — headlines.
“We are always going to be that society that slows down to look at the car wreck on the side of the road,” says Clooney. “I think we’re just in one of those places right now, and it seems to be focused on younger kids. Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan and people like that.”
“They’ll get through it, but I wouldn’t want to be growing up around that.”
Says Pitt: “But being that is our nature, you have to focus on other, more important issues too, because those (car wreck) tendencies can be very disruptive and aren’t a good guide on how to live your life.”
“No, it’s a terrible guide,” Clooney says.
When the actors are asked how they are able to deal with media attention, Pitt, 43, replies: “You adjust. You keep your sanity. You find your moments alone.”
Says Clooney: “I’ll say, too, we’ve been doing this for a while now. I was in no shape at 21 to be dealing with fame.”
“… But the younger breed seems to be groomed for it and accept it in a way,” says Pitt, and Clooney responds: “Right, because now fame is more an (end in and of itself rather) than working, necessarily.”

‘Mighty Heart’ preview draws stars Angelina Jolie and Dan Futterman
Actors Angelina Jolie and Dan Futterman join Judea and Ruth Pearl at a special benefit screening of the film at the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles in support of the Daniel Pearl Foundation
The Wednesday night preview audience for “A Mighty Heart,” which tracks the murder of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl by Islamic extremists, got an unexpected bonus when the film’s stars, Angelina Jolie and Dan Futterman, dropped in unannounced.
The film is based on the book of the same title by Pearl’s widow, Mariane Pearl (with Sarah Crichton), and told from her perspective.
Jolie, who portrays Mariane, told the audience at the Museum of Tolerance that throughout the filming she was constantly aware of the Pearl family’s “unimaginable suffering.”
“I hope we have done right by you,” she told the reporter’s parents, Dr. Judea and Ruth Pearl.
The Paramount Vantage film, which opens June 22, was directed by Michael Winterbottom and co-produced by Brad Pitt. Jolie and Pitt are also partners in private life and the parents of four children.
The preview raised $15,000 for the Daniel Pearl Foundation, established by the Pearl parents to promote understanding between different cultures and religions. The event was also sponsored by Artists for Amnesty.
Speaking of his 5-year old grandson Adam, born a few months after his father’s slaying, Judea Pearl urged the boy to keep his faith in humanity, despite all obstacles.
Ruth Pearl said she hoped that her son will be remembered for the way he lived and worked, rather than the way he died.
Daniel Pearl was decapitated in Karachi in January 2002, but although four Islamic terrorists were quickly convicted of the crime and are appealing their sentences, new alleged accomplices continue to turn up.
Only last week, Pakistani police arrested two additional suspects,
who, police say, are linked to Pearl’s kidnapping and death.
In March, the Pentagon released a transcript of the interrogation of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the alleged al-Qaeda mastermind behind the Sept. 11 attack, and now held by the U.S. military at Guantanamo Bay.
According to the interrogation transcript, Mohammed said that he had personally beheaded Pearl, boasting that “I decapitated with my blessed right hand the head of the American Jew, Daniel Pearl.”

Head of Artists for Amnesty to Support “A Mighty Heart“
4-Jun-2007
Written by: Jacob Gordon
Bonnie Abaunza continues to support movies with a social activist message.
Bonnie Abaunza, the founder of Artists for Amnesty, is one of the leading proponents for film as social activism. In a recent interview, Abaunza said, “When people read a newspaper article or magazine article, it moves them. But when they see images on a screen and watch actors playing real-life characters, it affects them on a much deeper level. We have seen it time and again. When they leave the theater, they want to send an e-mail, write a check or pick up a phone. Just do something to get involved.” In the past, Abaunza has supported public service announcements accompanying such social activist films as Blood Diamond and Hotel Rwanda. The latest movie she plans to support is called A Mighty Heart, which deals with the killing of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl. She intends to use the movie to support “cross-cultural understanding through journalism, music and innovative dialogue.” The movie, which stars Angelina Jolie, opened at Cannes to favorable reviews.
Oh Wow Jared you are so lucky to have had a screening of A Mighty Heart.
That’s wonderful, thank you so much for the review.
I can’t wait to see it..
cheers.

Ahaha, Angie is the woman! If some of ya could understand French, the guys on the video are so mesmerised by AJ’s beauty. They say that she’s a beauty, she’s incredible. One of them even tells her in French that she’s beautiful. This is a proof that the majority adores her and I totally agree with #165, Indie. You’re spot on, girl. Only the haters hide behing a pc screen and are the sheer minority.
Thanx Jared! Can’t wait to see this movie!
Damn, someone is still using my name? fuckers!
Mmmm you suck just as much as everyone else here.
to the haters who says the movie is boring, i’m very sad for you since you will miss seeing an intelligent movie and just because you hate angelina jolie. we should watch a movie for what’s it worth, what we can learn from it, we should look beyond who is acting on it.

Even so, Aniston’s rep confirms her friend’s remarks, telling Us: “There is nothing to report. People’s story was way too premature and we are not going to start to comment on her personal life.”
ohh ohhh jen’s not happy with people magazine?

ROTFL. Looks like People has fallen prey to Huvaniston’s “Feed mag a rumor, wait for publication, then deny to a different mag” strategy. No less than they deserve for giving a cover story for such a ridiculous reason. The woman went out on a date. She had VV’s car parked at her house overnight on several occasions and they didn’t give her a cover for apprently sleeping with an old boyfriend, so why give her a cover because she went to dinner with a new guy?
I hope People at least learned this important lesson - Any Aniston scoop is to be thoroughly checked out before giving it a cover story; better still, let another magazine have the scoop and position yourself for the forthcoming denial.
Congratulations to Angelina Jolie for her acceptance into the Council of Foreign Relations. People mag claims this is an exclusive story of theirs.

Angelina Jolie Joins Council on Foreign Relations

Angelina Jolie has been showing her glamorous side lately – walking red carpets from Cannes to Hollywood – but Thursday she was honored for her philanthropic work by joining the Council on Foreign Relations, PEOPLE has learned exclusively.
The prestigious think tank officially approved Jolie’s membership nomination, adding her to a group whose membership includes presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, ABC’s Diane Sawyer, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and journalist Tom Brokaw.
Earlier this year, Jolie, already a UN Goodwill Ambassador, was nominated and recommended for approval by the CFR membership.
“Angelina Jolie is accomplished in her field and has demonstrated serious interest in issues such as Darfur, international education and refugees,” says Lisa Shields, vice president of communications at CFR. “As such, her profile fits very well with other young professionals we’ve selected as the next generation of foreign policy leaders.”
In the new issue of Esquire, Jolie says she wants to be remembered for her humanitarian work, not her acting. “When I die, do I want to be remembered as an actress? No.” she tells the magazine. “I recently had a column published in a newspaper and at the end it didn’t say I was an actress. It said that I was a UN Goodwill Ambassador – that’s all. And I was really proud.”
For Jolie, her CFR membership is another big step in a path that began in 2001, when she first joined the United Nations refugee agency after visiting Cambodia while filming Tomb Raider, the country where she also adopted her first child, Maddox. Since that time, Jolie has visited refugee camps in over 30 countries, and adopted two other children, Zahara, 2, from Ethiopia and Pax Thien, 3, from Vietnam. She and boyfriend Brad Pitt also have a 1-year-old daughter, Shiloh.
In their article covering the special screening of A Mighty Heart, People mag also said that Brad tried to fly from Las Vegas to LA after the Oceans premiere to attend the screening, but was not able to make it

Congrats to Angie! Let’s all hope it’s true and after People got punk’d by Huvaniston that they haven’t developed a tabloid tendency to “fake the news”.
Maybe Angie fed them this story to take away the stench left from X’s bullshit ploy for attention that People fell for hook, line and dumbwater.
I like to come to site on a regular, but this is just ridiculous, every single time there is a post about AJ and BP, you people go absolutely insane if someone is praising them or bashing them. I think the best thing to do would be to stop defending two grown a** people. They can handle themselves they’ve made that choice to be in spotlight, let them handle it.
Furthermore why does Jennifer Aniston get bought up every single time! All three have moved on. If she finds love again good for her, If Brad’s and Angie relationship lasts good for them, but this s*** is borderline crazy! Chill and just ignore people’s comments, good or bad.
Now I haven’t seen the movie so i can’t say if it is good or if it is boring and the most of you are in the same boat with me. And personally all of them have made a film that I haven’t enjoyed at all, and all three have made a film that i have enjoyed, so there it is
And one more thing, I dont think Brad or Angie would like ANY of the ignorant a** comments from either side
I really wish you people would resist the goading from the many trolls. First it doesn’t matter. Second, I really want to read the positive comments by the fans, but all these silly debates have me scrolling by fans and haters alike. Just do what I do. When you recognize a hater’s name just pass on to the next comment. If it doesn’t upset you and you like to fight well then go visit the ff board and ‘have it out’.
