‘Ocean’s 13′ Earns $13 Million

Ocean’s Thirteen rolled out an impressive $13.1 million, according to Friday estimates. The heist comedy should easily pick up the No. 1 slot this weekend.

In No. 2 was the Katherine Heigl-Seth Rogen comedy Knocked Up, which brought in $6.2 million during its second week in release.. Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End sailed close behind with a cool $6 million.

The stars of Ocean’s Thirteen recently donated over $750,000 to poverty-fighting charity Oxfam. Co-stars Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Matt Damon also donated to Clooney’s Not on Our Watch charity, which helps the inhabitants of Western Sudan.

Clooney has said, “The people of Darfur urgently need the help of organizations like Oxfam.”

UPDATE: Ocean’s 13 pulled in a healthy $37 million at the box offices this weekend. POTC3 sailed away with $21 million with Knocked Up not far behind with $20 million.

Hello all, just found this site I’m a big fan of Brad & Angie this seems like a great community. :)

Well I saw the movie yesterday with my boyfriend and I enjoyed a lot, all of the boys were really great the acting was A+, I guess Brad has another box office hit, love that this family keeps going strong.

Once again hello

Only $13 million? wow. disappointment

# 8

Yes you say impressive, but $13 million is hardly anything if you think of it as one of the movies of the summer.

# 9

Can’t wait to see this! Good morning all :)

KrungKrung @ 06/10/2007 at 9:53 am

so, O13 is the #1 movie this weekend? cool, loves it.

bringing this 1 from the last thread.

• George Clooney, touring all the Palms’ hotspots while in Las Vegas for the Ocean’s Thirteen premiere. The actor met up with costar Brad Pitt at a sky villa in the Fantasy Tower, though Pitt only stayed a short while because, a source tells us, “He had to get back to L.A. to his family.” Next, the group moved to the N9NE Group’s Moon nightclub, but too much commotion – blame eager tourists clamoring for a photo with the star – caused Clooney to leave. But he soldiered on, stopping at the Playboy Club, where he got some special treatment (a private bar) and met up with costar Ellen Barkin – as well some other ladies. Says a guest: “He had [Playboy] Bunnies and blondes all lined up just to say ‘hello.’”

from people.com Caught in the Act! section…

it’s only the total Friday people not the the weekend which a lot of people went out to see it then.

anyways Jared can you be so kind to give me the source? Can’t find it anywhere tried Yahoo but they only update the total after the weekend. thanks ;)

Thanks for the new thread Just Jared. Ocean 13 is on track to be number 1 in a number of countries. Many of the cast members are huge international stars and worldwide box office is very important. It is a big world out there!!! The cast seem to get on great and I am sure that the Movie is a fun ride. I am off to see it. Best wishes to BAMPZS. Thanks for all the updates Just Jared. I have said it before, but your site is the best. Peace to all.

learn to read people….THAT’S THE TOTAL FOR FRIDAY JUNE 8….one day alone…

I think Knocked up is gonna go down to 3rd because Surfs Up (that surfing penguin movie) should get #2…Sunday is family day!

[Famous Fug Face] @ 06/10/2007 at 10:18 am

Hahaha Look at people get pissed over the numbers lmao

fuggy, you’ve been laying low for awhile.

who’s getting pissed [Famous Fug Face]? It’ll either be number one or two and 13 mill first day is pretty good don’t you think?

just asking @ 06/10/2007 at 10:39 am

[Famous Fug Face] are you for real

i saw the movie, I think it is just ok movie. But Brad is very sexy and hot in it. He is the hotttest Ocean boy, no doubt.

I can see someone is using my moniker yet again. #1 wasn’t me. I saw the movie yesterday, and it was sold out in my local theater, O13 should easily make $40m for the weekend.

It is too early on a sunday morning to be baiting.

OT

Maybe it was just me, but Jared do you have other pics of Brad than this, he looks sad, it’s not ugly, just different…

Jared, where did you hear that it made 13 million?
boxofficemojo.com says it made 11.6 million.

What was the movie like #19? Describe it for me please, I’ll have to wait 5 months to see it.

Actually what is important is how it does over the next month or so. Does it have legs? Also how it does overseas.

But 12 to 13 million for a friday is not bad considering it’s a 3 peat and alot of people did not like Oceans 12.

21 koala

Variety says it made $13.1 million.

Another Sequel Sinking: #1 ‘Oceans 13′ Below Expectations;
SATURDAY AM: Ocean’s Thirteen washed over the competition but was sinking compared to projections Friday as Warner’s says its franchise opened with $13 million (though rival studios have it $12.3M to $12.6M) from 3,565 theaters. It should finish the weekend with $39M, about par for the franchise but well below the $45M to $50M projected by box office gurus. (For those of you keeping score, Ocean’s Eleven opened with $38.1M from Friday to Sunday in 3,075 venues, while Twelve debuted at $39.1M in 3,290 playdates

——–

the rest of the article since you failed the mentioned how well it was doing everywhere :

Again, U.S. moviegoers look to be seasick on sequels, even though reviews were good for the threequel again starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt and again directed by Steven Soderbergh. But overseas, audiences continue to have sequel fever: I’m told Ocean’s was No. 1 in the UK, Spain, Hong Kong and a slew of other foreign territories. The ferocious competition for domestic gross receipts at the megaplex will only become more intense as the summer movie season progresses with what was supposed to be risk-free programming.

———-
It will do well. Probably about 40 mil for the weekend. The overseas box office should be huge.

Saw O13 on Friday and LOVED it!!! Brad was so freakin’ hot in it and juts so smooth. Rusty has NEVER been better. Clooney, as always, is totally doable. They have a few great scenes together. Would have loved to have seen more of the Cheadle though. Casy Affleck, man, I think he’s got other acting layers to him. I would like to see him in something else so I could properly gage. All in all, a good time. Going to see it again because the DVD probably won’t be out until XMAS. I say 36mil for the weekend.

Alexanderina @ 06/10/2007 at 11:09 am

Thanks Jared for the new thread and way to go O13 I saw it yesterday and I loved it, definitely better than O12 but O11 is still the best one

25 brad’s lung cancer

you are a negative little fcuk aren’t you.

13 million only on friday, the total of the weekend should be around 36-38 million, which is good. Most preditions I read had the movie opening around 40 million.

I saw Ocean’s 13 yesterday,I can’t wait to see AMH.

Brad’s lung cancer screename is offensive. She should be banned for life.

Who are Angie’s competitors for Oscars 2008?? In my opinion, Angie only competitor is the new Meryl Streep a.k.a. Oscar nomination for every role, Cate Blanchett for the Golden Age. Cate was already previously nominated for this role, and most likely will get another for it because of the buzz. I’m hoping Angie will win because she plays someone a of a different background.

The movie will do very well worldwide, there is no need for a debate. Please delete #25 and stop copying him. Every post with that name should be deleted because it is pure evil, that’s all.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

$13.1 million for Friday. That is a lot!

I heard it is doing very well overseas.

la pelicula es numero uno en casi todos los paises donde se ha estrenado,y cais 40 millones es mala taquilla?joer de verdad que aburren mucho

Jared who are you kidding? Those numbers are anemic when considering the huge budget for this piece of crap.

I thought star salaries were killing the movie industry, so how does a movie like Ocean’s Thirteen get made? Clooney, Pitt, Pacino, Damon—who’s not getting paid? (It’s gotta be Scott Caan, right?)
—Another Scott, Lexington, Kentucky
RECOMMENDED (0)

The B!tch Replies: I’d be willing to bet it was payment enough for young Scott to sit on the set and bask in the Clooney-Pitt nimbus of extraordinariness. Besides, the kid probably got to learn all about Darfur. And really, isn’t that better than a $10 million check?

Your suspicions are correct, in that megabudget movies and obnoxious star salaries are, for the most part, out of favor in Hollywood—at least when it comes to any movie other than a summer blockbuster. In this case, in order to afford the bazillion-star cluster orgy of Ocean’s Thirteen, producers reportedly got Clooney and Co. to reduce their up-front salaries. You know, so that everyone could take turns with the rubber noses and the inside jokes.

First, some background: The first film—and by that I mean the first from Steven Soderbergh—cost a reported $85 million. Ocean’s Twelve cost a reported $110 million. This latest jape is said to be in the neighborhood of $195 million.

A Certain Smile @ 06/10/2007 at 11:27 am

The title of the post isn’t confusing, but the numbers are sad for the movie. The makers of O13 expected it to make 30-50 million on Friday, so the result is definitely disappointing.

Because I kicked his ass, and he had a hard time showing his face again. :lol How’s it hanging FF?

LMAO at the haters - if the movie performs below expectations they’ll somehow see this ensemble three-quel ‘guy’ pic’s showing as their vindication. Ahahahahahaha!! Yeah, that’s right - THIS, is all they got –> …(sob)”…well..yeah, it was #1 brangeloonies, but it wasn’t the biggest #1 EVER…it was just an okay #1…! Nah! LMAO! Riiiiiight. Dario Franchitti doesn’t care that he WON the Indy 500 in the rain, and because the race was stopped - bottomline, he WON motherf**kers! Bahaha!! See, the average insane embittered hater faniston crone, they’d like O13 to mean something, and they have an amazingly bad short term memory, making it easy for them to forget Mr. & Mrs. Smith’s half BILLION dollar take, or Babel’s close to 200 million dollar take worldwide.

My own POV about O13. It was good. For the eye candy alone, and smooth sexy Papa I will see it 2 more times. But O11, for me, is still the best though, and the main reason for that is that they added a love story for the ladies. It was well-rounded. It was part love story, part hesit film. Way before my wonderful ‘Brangelina,’ I loved O13 because Danny Ocean was heisting Terry Benedict to win back Tess (Rusty to Danny: ‘Tess does not split 11 ways). That was HOT. That was the main reason why I saw it 10 times. ..and even though I didn’t think CZJ and Brad lit the screen on fire in the next one, it was nice seeing them introduce a love interest for him. I think that’s why that film did as well as the first, because they injected a little romance. It’s really too bad that component, especially re Julia and her pregnant self, couldn’t make it back for this one, because without her, it tightens the demographic. So let’s put it this way, if this film is indeed #1, and makes what one and two made essentially at the box office - bit of romance at all, no love interest, and no ‘macking’ of the Daddies at all at anything in a skirt to be found - then that’s really significant.

The title of the post isn’t confusing, but the numbers are sad for the movie. The makers of O13 expected it to make 30-50 million on Friday, so the result is definitely disappointing.

You really need to learn to read, the 30-50 million estimates a for the whole weekend NOT ONLY FRIDAY LMAO!

SUNDAY AM:

Ocean’s Thirteen washed over the competition but sank compared to projections as the third in the franchise opened with $35.5 million (though some studios have it $36.1M) from 3,565 theaters. Not only is that far less than the $45M to $50M projected by box office gurus, but it’s not equal to the other two Ocean’s films. According to wikipedia, the budget of Ocean’s 13 is $100 million.

So Nancy must be a LIAR!

Ahahahahaha!

Dear Miss TROLL b*tch,

The Break Up was hyped for more than a year and a half, as the vehicle for the woebegone ’scorned woman’ who had endured her own ‘BREAK UP’ with a MOVIE STAR, and subsequently went on a ‘Pity Party’ TOUR throughout most of 2005-2006. The sad mini-vans wanted to see the tv sit-com hack rebound with her FAKE boyfriend, newly successful comedy movie bloat boy, and also see if she was as miserable in a fictional movie ABOUT a Break Up, as she was ACTUALLY miserable and pathetic about her own in REAL LIFE. They wanted to see her ‘best’ Angelina Jolie, to ‘get the guy’ even if it was all phony hype for the guy’s movie. It was pathetic, and anyone with TWO brain cells to rub together, KNOWS it was achieved on the backs of Brad and Angelina. If Maniston had ‘broken up’ with Tate Donovan, we wouldn’t be having this discussion, lolol - you know it, I know it, and everyone with more of a brain pan than an amoeba, knows it. It’s the MAIN reason why the b*tch can’t get a job now. Her 4 films thats he opened in one year ON HER OWN…FLOPPED!! It was only the one alluding to her REAL LIFE TRAINWRECK, and the fact that a certain segment of the public, wanted her phony bloated scruffy fake boyfriend to be her ’savior,’ from the evil ‘Brangelina’ and their bliss - is what made it that much money.

If she was smart - she’d go CONSTANTLY crying and whining to the mags and rags and Oprah all over again about what ‘Brangelina’ DID TO HER, and then announced she has a new man over tears and glasses of champagne, then proceed to do a film with ‘the new guy,’ called ‘The Nasty BITTER Divorce,’ or ‘She Stole MY Man,’

OCEAN’S BOMBED!

Angelina will probably get an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. She will fill the last spot open. I think on this board we named all who will actually be nominated, LOL!!!!

Attention haters, Ocean’s 13 boxoffice has only been for one day I think and only in the US, not around the world. This film opened up overseas this weekend with more countries added over the next few weeks. Out of the summer of threequels, Ocean’13 is the best movie so far.

Have a good day all.

Transformers is the film John Voight is in.

Ocean’s 13 is a film that will have legs. I don’t think Matt Damon’s threepeat of Bourne will do that great.

I think 300 was the best film so far this summer and the most profitable.

SUPER FLOP | 06/10/2007 at 12:12 pm

according to AMC’s Sunday Morning Shootout, as of Saturday, O13 made approximately 32 million, give or take several million.

If I’m not wrong, ITS AS OF SATURDAY, it had already make 32 millions,that means in 2 days they get around 32 million, the 38-39 million prediction was for 3 days.

If you’re saying the foreign press for GG, then La Vie En Rose’s Marion will most likely win.

why are people talking about the oscar nominations now,you will hurt Angelina’s chances if you overhype this.

That’s it for now. More films will be opening in the fall. Most film studio leave their best for that time of the year to try to get nominations.

For your list you must have an indie film. I saw Waitress and thought that Kerri Russell was wonderful. So you can add her. I really liked that film

AMH will bomb if released in the summer. Fact movies of that kind don’t do well, people are looking for light, fun movies. If Fall release much bigger, it’s a really heavy and disturbing story. Not somethng the big summer target audiences go for. (WTF does this thread have to do with Jolie?)

As far as Oceans, I didn’t really like it, just Ok. It wasn’t as good as the others and still expecting O11 kind of impact. If you go in with little expectations and enjoy the eye candy (GC all the way!) it’s worth it.

Hi JJ and all Brad and Angie fans. I just saw Oceans 13 yesterday and it was very funny. Brad was on the first scene and in the last scene with a cute joke from George. Anyway, I don’t think 13 million is the final weekend figure, plus it is not yet own in other countries as well. Frank Sinatra fans will be happy to see this movie too.

AMH is a tribute to a fallen journalist, Brad and Angie care about that first and foremost. Other things are secondary. They’ve primarily achieved what they intended with the movie with the reception so far.

61 Nancy | 06/10/2007 at 11:47 am
The Break Up opened at 40 million with less than half the budget and fewer theaters. Go figure.
**************************************

And then it sank like a stone. And poor Jen hasn’t get another film to save her life. Go figure that.

I meant to say shown, not own.

Ocean is not a little ones movie like pirates’s or sherk’s francise. The first ocean had 37 million weekend opening. The second one had 38 million weekend opening This one had 13 million 1st day opening. That means it definatly will have just about the same opening weekend like the former ones.

A very nice video of OC 13 Las Vegas premiere. Nice song as well. I am waiting for part 2 the video make promised.

To Nancy, did you ever read this.

UN Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie has joined forces with foreign policy organization Council on Foreign Relations, reports People.

Other members include: presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, ABC’s Diane Sawyer, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and journalist Tom Brokaw.

Vice president of communications at CFR Lisa Shields said, “Angelina Jolie is accomplished in her field and has demonstrated serious interest in issues such as Darfur, international education and refugees. As such, her profile fits very well with other young professionals we’ve selected as the next generation of foreign policy leaders.”

====
If Angie is what you believed a heroin addict, then I don’t think she will be awarded the UN goodwill ambassador nor appointed as a member of this prestigious foreign policy organization . If you don’t like Angie but please have some respect on UN and foreign policy organization Council on Foreign Relations of U.S.A.
lastly, Jen and her new “hot” bf shared the love of work-out, mexican food as reported by Peoples, they should have added they shared the love of “coke” too.

You know, AJ doesn’t care so much about winning awards…I think she wanted to do 3 things, 1)do right by Marianne Pearl (which she accomplished — Marianne said she did), 2) make Brad proud of her and 3) do a good job for Plan B!

Her mission was accomplished BIG TIME. If she gets a nomination, like I know Brad and Plan b would like, that’s just icing on an already bountiful cake.

To the haters that are still trying ‘wish fufullment’ repetitive chanting about O13 - because they want to somehow connect it to a kind of Brad Pitt waning mojo, and in turn Angelina’s.

Explain to me, how it is that ‘Troy,’ which was indeed BRAD’s MOVIE (starrer, and Plan B production) - was said to have FLOPPED in America when it came out….(yes, it went on to make boocoo money overseas, but since the trolls and hater fanistons aren’t concerned with overseas moulah - and the rest of the world doesn’t count with them — I’m just focusing on U.S. movie theater box office, like they are. LOL)

..and yoo-hoo haters…lookie loo at who he was married to, and plugging the film with at the time…why if it isn’t the tv sit-com HACK, Maniston.

I have to tell you - and I’m being honest….Brad so bored the f**k outta me when he was with that hag, she so ruined his game — and in my mind, completely neutered him, that I just NEVER could get excited about it…somehow the image of a virile macho Achilles juxtaposed against the image of that LAME fug tv sit-com hack’s red carpet handbag that Brad appeared to be at the time (so I thought), did not register..it’s why I only just watched Troy last year.

Bahahahaha!

So. Now that we’ve smacked some sense into you haters - I’d like to remind you that he and Angelina are ranked as the most famous people in the world, the top endorsers for any product they choose to plug, the most influential people in the world (courtesy of Time and Newsweek), Brad’s ‘Babel’ which everyone knows has Brad’s star power to thank for insuring the world got to see that remarkable film, along with his performance that was celebrated ad infinitum with critics and come award’s season, along with Brad’s The Departed which…HELLO, you dumb b*tches, WON the ACADEMY AWARD - he’s had an untold number of professional successes….now this year he has A Mighty Heart, Angie has her tour de force performance, and they have their babies…

…and you haters are blowing your wads over a 30 some million dollar #1 take for the Oceans ensemble, as opposed to a 40 mil #1.

Bahahahaha!!

You are sooooo sad.

Exactly. She’s not obsessed with getting the big roles, or oscar-worthy roles like other such as La Lohan. Unfortunatley, she is offered all the big roles, but turns them down and chooses OKAY films.

[Famous Fug Face] @ 06/10/2007 at 1:19 pm

I didnt know Jennifer Aniston was in Ocean’s 13.

I think Angelina is interested in doing good roles first. When you concentrate on that, good things follow like awards, etc.. People like Beyonce miss the whole point of acting. You love the craft and the creative process and the places these roles take you, on location and otherwise. You should not be concentrating on making tons of money or winning awards like she does. Awards are extra recognition, not the end all and be all. Ask most actrsses who won Oscars like Angelina was asked, if the Oscar opened more doors for them in terms of roles. The answer? NO! Put the awards in a cardboard box and move on to your next role.

I watched O13 with my spouse on Fri. we went to the last showing, this was a fun date movie but a lot of dudes came to see this movie without a dates. Sure it was fun to see all the gorgeous eye candy on the big screen. It’s good to see O13 will be #1 at the box-office this weekend.

========================================

You are so correct.

Everyone knows that she gave her awards away. She doesn’t hang on to them and it doesn’t made or break her if she doesn’t win new award.

I would like to see full-size CHIN on the red carpet.
When she will be walk on the red carpet? That’s so sad for CHIN,she should be back on TV role.

Ocean’s 13 will do fine in the end. I think what may have hurt the film from getting more numbers is that when you already have 11& 12 running on cable and on tv so close to the premiere of the new film, people feel like they have seen it already. Ocean’s 12 was on CBS just last week. and Ocean’s 11 has been in heavy rotaion on cable. The tv station do this to try to capitalize on the film coming out but I think that the new film suffers a bit attendance wise because of this. But it will be fine. It did real well for a film that’s not considered an action, animation, or schoolboy comedy/bathroom humor film.

What is it with the hybrid language? Ms. Spain is so boastful of her academic achievements (hmmm…cultural or biological anthropology, I wonder?), that she resorts to demeaning digs (chuckles…no pun intended!). It appears to be the perfect major for someone who enjoys digging and talking to herself; perhaps it will lead her on the path to an enrichment of her social skills, if her major is cultural anthropology. I’ll begin by warming up my Spanish language skills:

Spain,

Que maravilloso es tener el derecho de expresion personal. Ahora, para alguien jactancioso de su ralizacion academica, su manera de expresarse demuestra su verdadero nivel y la falta de educacion social que le queda por realizar.

I am headed to the theater to enjoy O13 and the piece of eye candy that is Brad!

I doubt that just for the simple reason that P.Cruz is a star but Angelina has constant buzz surrounding her that by the fall, she will still be in the spotlight in some regards…with bylines like “the actress that currently has oscar buzz around for her role in AMH”. She is one of the biggest stars in the world and it’s very likely that it will help her earn a well deserve nod for GG and oscar.

Critics don’t forget good performances…no matter what season.

Damn, I finally read the Esquire interview and that jackazz was mean, imo. It’s like he was searching high and low to find something bad about her and he didn’t seem very nice to me about her. Seems somebody likes ugly chain smoking bores!

Congratulations to Brad and the Oceans crew for a fun movie. I love seeing these guys on the big screen!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I would love for those who are in-the-know to post about why they think A Mighty Heart is being released in June. I realize it is a limited release, but making it compete with summer blockbusters just seems like strange timing. I remember feeling the same way about the release of The Good Shepherd during Christmas season when it had to compete with a lot of family fare. It seemed more like a history buff’s type of movie, more serious fare that would have done better with a fall release. Posters here at that time did come up with a lot of valid reasons for that time frame for its release and then it did more sense to me. Thanks to anyone who might make some observations. :)

‘Ocean’s Thirteen’ Banks $37.1 Million

Audiences anted up for the Warner Bros. caper “Ocean’s Thirteen,” the third of George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s casino-heist romps, which debuted as the top flick with $37.1 million, according to studio estimates Sunday.

source Yahoo, well it did really good, and that just the estimate and if you haven’t seen it it’s totally worth your money ;)

I saw it yesterday (Saturday) and it was packed.. we couldn’t find two seats together. It’s going to do great over the w/end. It’s a fun movie, not as great as the first one but still very, very enjoyable. Brad looks GREAT in it.

I don’t want to see another Oceans movie. 1 was enough for me.

Hi Susie - I’ll try again.

It must be so frustrating and frankly sad to be a hater -desperately wishing for movies to flop, dissecting numbers, analyzing statements, gestures, and actions, ever hopeful of some sign or symptom of a problem. I’d never heard about the campaign for VV to replace Brad in Oceans. WTF????

AMH is a critical success. O13 will be a commercial success. And this couple deserve it because THEY ARE TALENTED.

And guess what?? They will have flops in their long, illustrious careers and so what?? It won’t mean their relationship is in peril, or the public has rejected them. It will simply be that that particular movie has not resounded with the public. Period.

Brad and Angelina have ignited such a public interest because they both have something that cannot be fabricated: charisma. You either have it or you don’t and no amount of good looks or even talent can replace it.

i absolutely love this AH video! the part where brad pulls angelina away from AH, and the end with Matt & Don. I didn’t like 013 at all (plot wise) but I loved watching all of them together and its sad to see this end. they are all so good together and play off each other so well (i.e. don & matt here, matt & george and brad & don in cannes).

http://video.accesshollywood.com/player/?id=116704

Marion Cotillard - La Vie En Rose
Cate Blanchett - The Golden Age

Who else?? BTW, This is a dumb question. But how many nominees can there be for Best Actress?

+++++++++++++++

No offense to this Marion whoever…but she won’t win Best Actress. The last actress to win Best Actress in a foreign language film was Sophia Loren in 1961 for “Two Women”. The Academy may nominate for a foreign language performance, as they did with Penelope Cruz this year…but they winner won’t be a foreign language role. You can make bank on it.

We saw O13 yesterday and thought it was cool. It’s on par with the previous two so Congrats to the cast and all involved with it.

As for AMH, word is the reason they wanted to release it on June 22nd is because that is also International Faith Day (I believe). If they were just interested in awards they would have released it in the fall. Apparently they wanted to tie the film back to the overall message they are trying to relay. I believe it’s just limited release in LA and NY.

OT I checked Rotten tomatoes for info on Ms. Cotilard (who’s Angelina’s age by the way) and all I have to say is, damn! LOL!!!!

PT I think you’re right but I would think at least a nomination would be given to acknowledge her.

It’s way to early to be discussing all this but it was the critics in Cannes who started all this, not us.

AMH is an important film based on Mariane Pearl’s book. No one could guess what she had to go through. AMH will shed light on this.

You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar
When i met you
I picked you out, i shook you up, and turned you around
Turned you into someone new
Now five years later on you’ve got the world at your feet
Success has been so easy for you
But don’t forget it’s me who put you where you are now
And i can put you back down too

Don’t, don’t you want me?
You know i can’t believe it when i hear that you won’t see me
Don’t, don’t you want me?
You know i don’t believe you when you say that you don’t need me
It’s much too late to find
You think you’ve changed your mind
You’d better change it back or we will both be sorry

Don’t you want me baby? don’t you want me - oh
Don’t you want me baby? don’t you want me - oh

I was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar

But even then i knew i’d find a much better place

“Ocean’s Thirteen,” the third installment in the star-studded caper franchise from Warners and Village Roadshow, landed the No. 1 spot at the box office over the weekend with $37.1 million, but took in less than the openings of the previous two pics in a mild moviegoing frame overall.

Lionsgate’s “Hostel Part II” bowed in sixth place, taking in just $8.75 million. Original pic, also with a hard R rating, posted $19.5 million in its opening last January.

Both “Ocean’s” and “Hostel” shifted from the winter debuts of their predecessors into summer slots .

Sony’s animated family pic “Surf’s Up,” may also have suffered from over-familiarity, taking in a modest $18 million from 3,528 locations. It’s the latest Hollywood film centered on penguins and follows on the heels of Warner’s CG Oscar winner “Happy Feet.”

Paramount and DreamWorks Animations’ “Shrek the Third” could have stolen some of the “Surf’s Up” mojo. The CG pic is still stomping among the top 10 and took in $15.75 million in its fourth weekend, raising its cume to $281.8 million after a month in release. A year ago over the same frame, Disney launched “Cars” to No. 1 and more than $60 million.

As for the “Ocean’s” franchise, “Ocean’s Twelve,” despite landing poor critical notices, was the highest opener so far, hauling in $39.1 million in its first frame. “Ocean’s Eleven” did $38.1 million in its debut.Latest installment — penned by Brian Koppel-man and David Levien, and produced by Jerry Weinstraub — didn’t quite live up to expectations. Tracking data had the pic on a pace to jump ahead of the other two films in the series by taking in around $40 million.

But Warners distribution topper Dan Fellman said he expects the pic to wind up with the biggest opening week of any of the “Ocean’s” pics by picking up healthy midweek biz during its summer playtime.

Exec noted that most of the pic’s audience was over 25, a factor that tends to build biz after opening weekend. Pic could have a good run with the over-25 crowd as younger-skewing films, including “Nancy Drew” and the latest “Fantastic Four” movie, enter the marketplace next weekend.

This summer’s B.O. pace has now fallen slightly behind that of 2004, the biggest on record, by 1% or $15.1 million, according to Nielsen EDI.

Among holdovers, Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” managed to slow its decline in its third frame, sliding 52% after a 61% plummet last weekend, to nail the No. 2 slot and bring its cume to $253.6 million domestically.

Universal’s “Knocked Up,” the relationship laffer from Judd Apatow, kicked into third place in its soph sesh, with $20 million. Cume now stands at $66.2 million on the modestly budgeted breakout.

“Hostel,” meantime, marked another disappointment for the previously hot horror genreposting a per-theater average of just $3,723 off 2,350 locations.

Other recent horror sequels have been unable to carve as big a slice of the B.O. as their predecessors: “The Hills Have Eyes II,” “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning” and “The Grudge 2″ failed to land at the same levels as the pics that spawned them. And other, more recent, horror originals, including “Grindhouse” and “Vacancy,” also have gone off the rails.

Among other holdovers on the top 10, Sony’s “Spider-Man 3″ snared another $4.4 million and swung its cume past $325.6 million after six weeks in release.

MGM’s “Mr. Brooks” sneaked up to $18.6 million, by adding $5 million over the weekend.

Another thriller, Paramount and DreamWorks’ “Disturbia,” remained in the top 10 after nine frames. Pic starring Shia La-Beouf has cumed $77.7 million.

Reflecting the weakness of the frame below the top few pics , “Disturbia” landed at No. 10 by playing just 568 theaters. And Fox Searchlight’s “Waitress” served up a No. 9 perf with $1.65 million from just 708 locations as a platform rollout and one of the season’s counterprogramming specialty film successes.

Fox Searchlight also expanded its “Once” to under 100 screens over the frame.

HBO and New Line’s Picturehouse, opened Edith Piaf biopic “La Vie En Rose” in eight locations for a healthy $171,786 off eight screens. That accounted for a $21,473 per-screen average.

Picturehouse topper Bob Berney said he sees summer opening up for specialty fare as auds tire of the blockbusters.

For those fans who are disappointed with the $37 mil and the haters who are thrilled that O13 flopped… tell me… what would you say if it makes more money next week? It’s been known to happen - I think it happened with Elf - will it still be a failure?

Standards, people.

Is O13 a ‘flop’ when you put it next to, say, Perfect Strangers and Mr. Brooks?

Brad and Angie FOREVER!! @ 06/10/2007 at 5:06 pm

Ocean’s 13 is overrated because its all over the place. There’s too much press coverage of this film. I see it as a bunch of 40 somethings trying to act young and cool. I prefer Oscar worthy films like AMH. I doubt it will receive box office success, because I still have to see a trailer of AMH. Hopefully it will receive an Oscar nomination for Best Picture and Best Actress.

Ocean’s did $37.1 million, according to studio estimates from box office trackers Nielsen EDI. The haul exceeded most analysts’ expectations and easily knocked Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End from the No. 1 perch, which it held for two weeks.

It is just an early estimate for Press Release and for a studio can brag on being number and other studios can re-group. Daily receipts are then added to the total each day until the next weekend. JMO

Im very surprised,but pleased, at how well it did, being a third installment.

I was more worried about Hostel II. Lately, the really gory horror flicks are major money makers.

I was also surprised by Knocked Up. I thought it would overtake Pirates since it’s better reviewed and getting good word of mouth. But then again, it’s an R comedy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was watching MAMS today. I started smiling, not for the obvious reasons (it was the unrated version). The scene when they were hiding under the sewer grate… when the conversation turned intimate or sentimental, they started punching each other. I also seeing some outtakes where Angelina playfully punched Brad, specifically during the tango scene. It made me think of the MC article, and IMO, reaffirms that they are still in that childhood crush stage when you can’t verbally express a feeling and just let it rest there. Appreciate the jungle sex stage, but am charmed by the childhood crushing.
Also… in the MC article, Angelina mentioned that both she and Marcheline were in the hospital at the same time and that both were on morphine. I thought about the People spread and the quotes Marcheline contributed to the article. I’m just wondering whether those quotes were delivered by a representative for Marcheline or did she give an interview, whether it was in-person or via phone? The reason why I’m wondering is that maybe People were aware of the state of Marcheline’s health and kept quiet about it.
Ocean’s did well. It didn’t do great, but it’s mainly because it was a hard sell with being a sequel and 12 was not liked by many fans. I think it will get good worth of mouth though. Personally, I thought it did well, on a level that I haven’t seen before. Not the movie, per se, but for the fact that they promoted the movie ‘right’.
I watch O11 on DVD; haven’t seen O12 yet; but I wanted to see this movie despite not being in the know about it. But for me, O13 possessed the components that I like- interesting plot, lack of reliance on CGI/special effects, characters/relationships, glamor/men’s fashion. I am envious of those who are fans of event pics like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, although some go overboard, i.e. getting dressed up as the characters, although if I saw a dude that was as well dressed as Danny or Rusty, I wouldn’t have been mad at that. ;)
Anyway, it is rare that I get juiced up about seeing a movie and then being satisfied enough to see it multiple times. And I do credit the Cannes and O13 red carpet/news conferences/award ceremonies for really sealing the deal. It felt like Old Hollywood, although Old Hollywood doesn’t offer the accessibility that these guys enjoy. Those were the only times that I could remember when Old and New Hollywood melded together so perfectly. Whether it will happen again… I don’t know, but I was glad to have witnessed it.
Way better than any awards ceremony, including the Oscars.
Oops… I stand corrected.
I remember wanting to see MAMS based solely on the fact that Brad and Angelina were in it. But the press/tabloid reports and red carpet didn’t have anything to do with it.
Indeed, piper, with a low, I too think the movie was very well promoted.
It is not a teen blockbuster or a special effects big thing. In order to succeed it has to capitalize on its stars and the promotion was excellent in that way.
I agree with both of you. Having just spent some time at JJB looking at all the shots, they just seem to have won the love lottery. It took them a while, but I really think they’ve found the love of their lives; the person they were MEANT to be with. With all the heartache Angie has had this year, it was doubly wonderful to see her so happy at the LA O13 premiere. And, I have got to say, Brad sure seems to be the real deal. Asking them to share memories of Marcheline is such a caring thing to do. I’m glad Angie “blabs” just a little. *gush*
Knocked Up made a lot more than I thought it would.
I must confess I wouldn’t usually go and watch this movie. I am not very keen on American popcorn fare and, as our movie nights got less frequent after having babies, we tend to be choosy and opt for films that leave us something rather than just for spending a couple of amusing hours.
But being a fan for the first time in my life has taken its toll :) and we are going to watch O13 tomorrow night instead of waiting for the dvd or cable releases.
I can see Angelina wearing black again. At least with her, her black dresses are distinctive: black vintage lace with a satin sash (Cannes); black leather full-length (MAMS red carpet); black Versace with sheer sides (O13 red carpet); black long sleeved sheath (Oscars 2000?)
Different lengths, different makeups, different hairstyles.
An even better question is whether Brad and Angelina will walk the carpet together? In Cannes, they were part of an ensemble, including Mariane and Adam… I’m not sure if they should do the carpet in NYC, although that act of deflecting attention from ‘Brangelina’ could be twisted into trouble in paradise. Those NY journalists can be really pi$$y. :evil:
Angie is beautiful and back to her old self. Leave her alone now.
‘Pirates’ tops felons at international boxoffice
June 11, 2007
Walt Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” weathered intensified international competition during the weekend, maintaining its lock on the No. 1 spot for the third consecutive stanza with an estimated $51.3 million from 17,500 screens in 103 territories.
After two unthreatened weeks overseas, “At World’s End” had to contend with the opening of Warner Bros. International’s “Ocean’s Thirteen,” which tallied an estimated $28 million at about 4,200 screens in 30 markets.
Bowing day-and-date with its No. 1 domestic debut, the third in director Steven Soderbergh’s Las Vegas caper series, co-starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, already has grossed $65.1 million worldwide.
“Thirteen” scored No. 1 bows in 20 markets, including the U.K. (an estimated $6.1 million from 699 sites), Spain ($3.4 million from 487 screens), Italy ($2.4 million from 526 locales) and Greece ($1.1 million from 118 situations).
Did you guys see Maniston’s manwhore in Brad’s same exact sweater? ROFLMAO I think she’s going of the deep end, lololol.
I don’t like throwing the word conspiracy around but seriously.
At least with Nicole Richie and Kate Bosworth, the entertainment press would show several old pictures along with the new ones in order to compare the difference. They really don’t do this with Angelina. I do recall a tabloid using the Tomb Raider promo pics as the standard, but she put on weight, both actual and padding, to get the proportions necessary to satisfy the video game fans.
They could try using her post-birth pics, but she was lactating and probably bandaged from having the C-section.
And to be far to Kate Bosworth, like Angelina, she put on, like 18 lbs, of muscle for Blue Crush.
Alexanderina @ 06/10/2007 at 8:38 pm
damn I am loving those pictures over at JJB, they are so beautiful :)
#227 - I believe they will. I think he’ll be by her side and then slip inside the theater like he did at the GS premiere. I do think it will be a bit more serious than the O13 premiere because of the content of the film.
Going forward, I think the only reason either of them will be without the other is if they have a work commitment or something comes up with one of the kids and one needs to stay behind to look after them.
Longtime Fan/Lurker @ 06/10/2007 at 8:50 pm
Those pix at JJB are very nice. I just watched GS on DVD it was good. Angie role was small but she was great. The movie was really good Matt was great in it.
Wow, Brad is so delicious.
Gotta say… I wouldn’t be mad if they don’t. And I hope fellow fans won’t either. Or worse yet, begin jumping to conclusions if ‘Jungle Sex’ isn’t in the air.
While making out during a screening of Schindler’s List made for a classic Seinfeld episode, reenacting that or putting out that kind of vibe would be grossly inappropriate.
No… I don’t that it would cross either of Brad or Angelina’s minds, but I do wonder about some people…
piper, with a low @ 06/10/2007 at 8:58 pm
Let me clarify… I do wonder about people and their reactions to what some people have written or will write.
Bochic Jewelry, the New York-based designer-jewelry firm, has seen its star rise this year with numerous placements on leading ladies, including Angelina Jolie, who wore the company’s jewelry to the Golden Globe Awards earlier this year.
As a way of thanking Jolie for the exposure she brought to the company, Bochic will donate the vintage-style necklace and earrings she donned at the event in support of World Refugee Day, celebrated each year on June 20.
Over the past few years, Jolie has become well-known for her work as a humanitarian, particularly in her role as Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the U.N. refugee agency.
Charityfolks.com, a leader in online auctions benefiting charitable organizations, will auction Bochic’s necklace and earrings, which feature rose-cut diamonds in 22-karat gold. All proceeds from the auction will go to UNHCR programs in Chad for refugees from the Darfur region.
“To have one of the most beautiful women in the world wear Bochic jewelry to the Golden Globes was, of course, very special for our company,” Bochic President and Co-Founder David Joseph said in a statement. “For a long time, we have admired Angelina’s commitment to charitable causes, and we are very happy to be able to support her work by donating the jewelry she wore.”,
Andro- I thought I told you. I sent just the interview b/c the magazine was too heavy to ship. It should be there soon :lol: How is Diana?
Andrómeda @ 06/10/2007 at 10:07 pm
I think you told me something, but I didn´t think that you were going to send me another thing….So the only thing that I can say is:
THANK YOU!!!, THANK YOU!!!.
(I´m a little embarassed, Please I don´t want you to spend a lot of money sending me mags or interviews,…I know is Angie that we are talking about, and I love her!!, but I´m embarassed, and I didn´t send you anything!)
Andro- you are welcome! Don’t worry about the cost, I sent the interview only because Glamour was big. I hope you enjoy! :lol:
The AMH premiere will be very low key and repectful affair. Just look at the difference between the AMH premiere in Cannes and the Ocean’s 13 premiere in Cannes. It was like night and day. In NY there will be a air of respect kind of like The Good Shepherd. You can bet she will be wearing a “non color” because this film premiere is not about what she is wearing.
Andrómeda @ 06/10/2007 at 10:14 pm
I will enjoy it!!, can´t wait to have it in my hands…Diana es great!!, she is so beatiful and funny…How is Pax?
Mrs. Smith @ 06/10/2007 at 10:16 pm
Just came back from O13, it was great! We all enjoyed it. The crowd appeared to be all fans and applauded at the end. Won’t mind seeing it again.
Can’t wait for AMH, and the NY premiere.
Estimates of 37m is a very good US number. The overseas numbers will take longer to come in.
I don’t expect AMH to do spectacularly. It is a heavy sort of subject and not something many people will choose to see on a date night. But I gather it was not an expensive movie to produce. It’s almost got an indie film quality to it. So, if the movie cost about 8 or 9m to produce I think it will comfortably make that money back in box office and dvd sales. I was thinking around the region of about 50m, if the film buzz on AMH continues to the oscars, much like Crash or Brokeback.
I think Brad and Angleina will be present at the premier of AMH but it will a more subdued low key affair.
Angelina’s Mighty Mission
Star Of `A Mighty Heart’ Would Love To See Renaissance Of Political Filmmaking
June 10, 2007
By RON DICKER, Special to The Courant
CAP D’ANTIBES, France - Even with her nuclear cloud of celebrity, Angelina Jolie has no illusions that she can transform Hollywood into a factory of issue movies.
“If a political film doesn’t do well, nobody’s going to make another political film for the next year,” she says.
That’s why Jolie says she didn’t approach studios about making a $50 million “important film” about the 2002 kidnapping and execution of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in Pakistan. She went the low-key way.
Adapted from a memoir of Pearl’s widow, Mariane, played by Jolie, “A Mighty Heart” is a modestly budgeted story that weaves snippets of the couple’s relationship with the frantic search after his disappearance. (Al Qaeda leader Khalid Shaikh Mohammed has bragged that he beheaded the Jewish Pearl, who was investigating ties between Al Qaeda and convicted would-be shoe bomber Richard Reid.)
But if Jolie can lure customers into theaters beginning July 22 to watch something of more sustenance than popcorn, so be it. She is determined to make her visibility - fueled by the “Brangelina” pairing with Brad Pitt, the global adoption spree and the Namibian delivery of hers and Pitt’s daughter, Shiloh - more of a propellant for good than fodder for In Touch Weekly.
She got to make “A Mighty Heart” because she is Angelina Jolie and the producer is Brad Pitt.
“It gives that stuff purpose, the craziness,” she says.
And perhaps she can inspire moviegoers after they’ve left the cineplex as well.
“I hope they’ll read the book,” Jolie says at the recent Cannes Film Festival, where “A Mighty Heart” premiered. “I hope they get to know Mariane and maybe look up Daniel’s articles and get to know him. But there is a bigger message: We are at a time in our lives where there is so much fear and so much anger, and it’s hard for people to calm down and focus enough to have a dialogue.”
Jolie lauds Mariane Pearl for showing “sympathy” for the other side when anger and vengeance could have prevailed. It is a statement that could use elaboration but instead slides by during a 30-minute exchange with reporters at the Hotel du Cap.
Given her United Nations humanitarian missions (three to Pakistan) and political correctness, Jolie is no one’s image-reclamation project. But her regal distance from the press and the public in the past few years has made observers more curious than affectionate. That has changed of late. Jolie recently cried in a broadcast interview with Ann Curry. She has served up harmless Brangelina dish to the women’s magazines. And on this day, she is more welcoming, too.
The proceedings never get to the Who Leaves the Toothpaste Cap Off, but Jolie certainly lets down part of her wall. She jokes about Pitt’s being perhaps the only male actor who is asked what he is wearing. She compliments his fathering and movie-producing skills, which he deployed simultaneously as a babysitter and facilitator while they were on location in India.
She is as thin as the matrons in nearby Cannes, which puts her famous lips and bone structure in eye-popping relief. She smiles a lot. She seems genuinely happy that Mariane Pearl has expressed her approval. Jolie has been reassured that her donning a curly black wig and using a French accent did not become that most dangerous of distractions, a vanity project.
“Sometimes there’s those fun movies where you are who you are, and it’s fine,” she says. “But for a film like this, it’s important to bring as much reality to it as possible and, as an actor, just erase yourself as much as possible.”
Still too shy to use her French accent in front of Mariane Pearl, Jolie believes she did jettison her movie-star persona - “I do see more of her than me now” - and Cannes critics for the most part agreed.
Once shooting began in India (Pakistan was considered too dangerous), Pearl, a French reporter of Afro-Cuban and Dutch descent, stayed away from the set. Jolie had expected to receive “lessons in accuracy.” They never came.
“She never said, `I would do it this way and not that way’,”Jolie recalls. “She just said, `Your intentions are right; just do it.’ She went off into the world and did her journalism. Every time I got a note from her, it was just, `How are the kids?’”
Jolie announces that she and Pitt will take a year off after she completes the summer filming of the thriller “Wanted” in Prague with Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy. There is also the matter of her reported commitment to Clint Eastwood’s “The Changeling,” about a mother and a kidnapped boy.
She has talked about spending more time with Pitt and the kids — Maddox, 5; Pax, 3; Zahara, 2; and Shiloh, 1. At the same time, another side of her personal life has grown more tumultuous. Jolie’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died from cancer in January, and she continues to be estranged from her father, actor Jon Voight.
Perhaps her declaration of a hiatus is merely a gambit to restore some of the elusiveness that she has surrendered. For a while anyway, the “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” and “Laura Croft: Tomb Raider” star has let us look into what seems to be her own mighty heart. Maybe she will lie low for a while and let her film work speak for her.
Who knows. It could even start a trend.
Says Jolie, “I would love to think political movies are making a comeback.”
`A MIGHTY HEART’ is expected to open June 22.
Thanks #256 for the picture, I think that’s her in the video I was talking about,I just could not figue out why she was so into what they where talking about, now I know. Thanks.
ROTFLMFAO! Excuse me for putting this here, but there’s no way I’m going to X’s thread….
I just saw on Jared’s homepage that PMBP (Poor Man’s Brad Pitt) “spent the night” at X’s. Once again X doesn’t disappoint in her obviousness - Oceans 13 came out this weekend and everybody knows that weekend box office numbers are due out on Sundays. So lo and behold…who’s seen leaving X’s abode but PMBP. So X is once again piggy-backing on Brad’s back for some free publicity. Doesn’t she ever get tired of being so pathetic?
Now US LIES WEEKLY has to asked themselves - were we played AGAIN? X leaks the boyfriend story to People…Huvane denies to US. Now PMBP is seen leaving X’s house, which apparently means it’s not “too early in the relationship” to screw PMBP…just too early to call him a “boyfriend”. Still…you’ve got to hand it to X. B#tch has been planning this move for a good month.
Washington Post has an article on Hollywood Stars and Social Causes. Below are the sections that have to do with Angelina and Brad.
——————
“And when Angelina Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, sat down for a two-hour interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper on June 20 last year, donations spiked by more than half a million dollars, Elisabeth Nolet said by telephone from UNHCR’s Geneva office.”
“When People magazine reported that a journal written by Jolie during a 2005 Africa tour was on the U.S. Memorial Holocaust Museum Web site, the institution’s server crashed”
“Jolie has donated more than $3 million to UNHCR since she became a goodwill ambassador in 2001 and $3 million more to charities this year. Jolie and partner Brad Pitt have a California-based foundation to assess grants”
“More than anyone else, Jolie and Bono embody the new generation of entertainers who moved into this realm of social actions,” Prendergast said. “They are the high-profile trailblazers.”
“Pitt, Clooney and other actors from the new film “Ocean’s 13″ used an opening-night Hollywood gala as a fundraising event for Darfur refugees. Clooney and Pitt, along with Cheadle, Matt Damon and producer Jerry Weintraub, have launched the Not on Our Watch Foundation to raise money and draw attention to Darfur.”
Whoa ladies what is up, where is the love?? Jen’s thread has more hits? What are you doin, chaning your name to show your true colors (bottom dweller) on Jen’s thread? Pitt-a-ful you all are. LMAO!
Hey Susie!
Hope it gets to me. No luck on mine yet?
Don’t know if this has been posted, but……
HOLLYWOOD star Angelina Jolie has opened her heart for the first time about her love for Brad Pitt and their plans to adopt even more children.
In her most intimate interview, the actress laughs off rumours that she and Brad are on the rocks and reveals that his sensitive, tender nature has sealed their love.
“I am a very lucky woman,” she says. “I have a beautiful family and Brad is a supportive friend and a great father. And he is very romantic. We talk very deeply about how we feel.”
Angelina simply says of the man often voted the sexiest in the world: “We’re very similar. We support each other and back each other as parents. There is no divide.
“We never want the kids to see us divided. We make sure they know that Mommy and Daddy are together on everything.”
This caring side of 32-year-old Angelina as earth mother to a brood of kids will surprise fans more used to seeing her as a wild sex kitten.
IN the past, she’s boasted of flings with both sexes and of meeting “bed buddies” in hotel rooms for casual flings.
This image, and her short-lived marriages to Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton, meant that few gave the couple dubbed “Brangelina” much chance, but their relationship has matured and they are now one of Hollywood’s golden couples.
Angelina reveals that Ocean’s 13 star Brad, 43, was her rock when her beloved mother Marcheline Bertrand, 56, died in January after a long battle with cancer.
“When my mother died Brad held her hand and helped me through all the stages of dealing with someone dying,” she says.
“After the funeral Brad brought everyone back to the house and asked questions about our mom. He focused on all the love and all the joy we were fortunate enough to have had. He is an extraordinary man.”
Last year, Brad told The Mirror about his dream of having enough children for a football team - and three months ago he and Angelina adopted three-year-old Pax from a Vietnamese orphanage.
Pax joins Maddox, five, and 18-month-old Zahara, whom Jolie adopted from orphanages in Cambodia and Ethiopia, and the couple’s one-year-old biological daughter Shiloh, who was born in Namibia.
Speaking for the first time about her new arrival, Jolie says Pax has fitted in well with the rest of the family, especially Maddox. But in his long journey from rural Vietnam to the riches of Tinseltown, he carries the emotional baggage of growing up in an impoverished orphanage.
“Pax is a great kid. When we first met him we thought he was really shy but after two days at home we discovered he is the loudest member of the family,” laughs Angelina.
“We don’t know if it’s because he has freedom he’s never had before, but he’s doing great.
“I’m really proud of Pax. It’s obvious he is used to stronger discipline, so it’s hard to change, but we are learning and he’s doing very well.”
Speaking exclusively on Thursday, she adds: “He is learning English and already speaks a little bit and the funniest thing was on my birthday on Monday to hear him saying ‘Happy Birthday, Mommy’ in the loudest, greatest, clearest voice. The kids were all screaming and singing. It was so much fun.”
Although the Pitt-Jolie children have slipped easily into the American way of life, Angelina is insistent they retain links with their heritage.
SO much so that she’s hired a Cambodian woman to visit the house to talk to Maddox and a Vietnamese woman to chat with Pax.
“They are both very focused in their language,” she says. “I love that my boys are growing up to love their countries and to love each other, too.
“Pax and Maddox have really connected because they’re closer in age and are brothers so they have moments when they bond together against everybody else in the family.
“They are a really tough team and then they have moments when they bug each other. It’s quite normal and it’s nice. It’s never quiet in our house.
“The four of them are a wild bunch. We’re never going to stop travelling. I think the greatest education I can give my kids, particularly as they are international children, is to keep them travelling.
“I think if they spend six months in Africa and come back to LA and then go to Asia for a few months we are showing them so much about the world and so much about understanding and tolerance and the beauty of other cultures.”
Angelina is chatting in a Los Angeles hotel room to promote her £5million role in new movie A Mighty Heart, out in the UK in September.
She plays Marianne Pearl, the widow of journalist Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and executed by Islamic terrorists in Pakistan in 2002.
It tells the story of Marianne, who was pregnant at the time of the abduction, and her efforts to find him during the weeks following his disappearance and his eventual murder.
“She is an extraordinary woman and she handles everything with so much dignity and grace,” says Angelina. “I don’t know where she gets her strength from. She is so full of love.
“Because I had just been through a pregnancy, I was highly aware of how beautiful that time should be for the mother and father and the family.
“I clearly remember giving birth to my daughter and looking at Brad and feeling the love in the room and the hope for the future. So to understand what was taken away from Marianne was haunting.”
But when it came to the scene in which Marianne Pearl gives birth, the actress had to call on the British director Michael Winterbottom and other fathers on the crew to help her. “The birth scene was actually very funny because when I gave birth I had a Caesarean and I didn’t scream at all,” she says.
“Michael had to explain how a woman behaves in labour. It was funny that a bunch of men explained what to do.”
She chuckles as she adds: “I had to scream at the top of my lungs and all these men were screaming, showing me how to scream.”
Angelina’s charity work and her travels around the world as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador mean she is cutting back on her film work and A Mighty Heart could be the last cinema audiences see of her for a while, although she does not intend to abandon film work completely.
“I love being an actress,” she says. “I love telling a good story but I feel that at the end of the day when I die, what contribution will I have made?
“If I’ve entertained, that’s wonderful. But if I’ve been a part of saving a life or changing a law that can affect people and their children and their countries and their rights, then clearly that is the more significant thing to do with my life.”
On a personal front she is looking forward to having more children, although not quite yet.
“We have a big family now and we’re trying to make sure they are all well adjusted first,” she says. “We will have more children, but now we’re still getting everyone together.
“We love having children and there are some kids we want to help through school and other kids involved in our lives as well.
“In our home it is about making sure everyone has individual time, and right now all four of them have daily, very special individual time and we never want to have so many children we can’t do that.
“When they get older and if it starts to feel like we can fit more in, that’s how we’re going to gauge how many we have.”
Hey Lady Dragonfly! What’s it like over on the x-way? I read the first few this morning, then just couldn’t be bothered…it was too nice outside today.
bermy- I give up trying to post it but I did ask JJ to forward mine, he is usually very quick except on sunday night. :lol:
Oh God, the X’s thread has more hits? Nah, it’s only because there are some Brad and Angie fans who insist on fighting with the JenHens. I say just leave them alone and let them enjoy this non-news about this 36-year-old male model (Ha ha ha better than Brad Pitt? GMAFB!!!! He’s still a nonentity at 36, while BP was a major HW playa at that age!) who apparently is making the X happy right now. Let her be happy — we are beyond ecstatic because of the recent events in the Jolie-Pitts’ lives!
So Angelina will be on LK and Stewart shows on the same day. What day is the premiere for AMH?
Thanks Burpie - I hadn’t seen that and it’s a good interview.
Brad and Angelina are going to need to show a united front with their children, especially since Z has already demonstrated her manipulation skills. That story about Daddy crying if she didn’t get the cookie was too cute.
It sounds like a raucous, loving household.
Natasha Bedingfield admires An @ 06/10/2007 at 11:46 pm
English popstar Natasha Bedingfield shared her respect of her role model, actress and celebrity-mom Angelina Jolie, while discussing her own desires of motherhood with UK’s OK magazine. Asked the last time she thought of having babies, the Unwritten singer said,
Well I guess when my single ‘I Wanna Have Your Babies’was out. I wasn’t thinking about it seriously because it’s a crazy comic exploration of what would happen if everything you thought about was said out loud. Would I want an army of kids like Angelina Jolie? I don’t think so. But I really look up to Angelina. Even when she was single she was adopting babies. But I don’t have a plan to have lots of children. I even forget to water my potted plants!
Hey, I went to see Ocean’s 13 today. I told myself to just watch the movie and not think about george and brad and matt and all of the cast, just sit back and watch. I just have to say that I did not enjoy it as much as I that I would, sure some parts were funny but the best oceans is the 11th one. Congrats to them for pulling a good $37million but I should of save my money and go watch Surfs-Up with the kids.
Susie - we have a holiday here tomorrow (Queen’s birhday). I’ll look out and let you know.
Just saw O13, theatre was about 90% full, this in a multiplex where it was showing on 3 screens with nine different show times today. Good movie, Brad and George looking great.
Let’s come together and celebrate what’s going on with the J-Ps. The best way is to watch their movies and support their projects. I know it’s hard for some people to resist going to Jen’s thread but how long do people who go their want to be on the rollercoaster of Huvane’s publicity stunts? So long as the J-P’s are happy, I don’t want to bother with Huvane. Jen takes and takes, J-Ps give and give, so I’ll be here on J-Ps’ thread not giving hits to Jen. The fans attack will continue until we focus on what really matters.
I just saw Ocean’s 13 and I LOVE IT!!!!! Brad is so GORGEOUS in this movie!!!!! I like this movie as much as i liked the first one (Ocean’s 11) and THANKS to all the people who keeps posting Angie’s interviews in here!! Yeah THANKS!!
I’m interested in discussing what Angie said about Pax. When Pax was at the orphanage, they described him as a shy boy and he was shy when he initially got with the Jolie-Pitts, but apparently he has a different personality now as Angie says he’s very loud and not shy anymore. I like the fact that she said his voice was the loudest and clearest when he said “Happy bithday, mummy.” She thinks that his shyness was a result of him not being able to express himself at the orphanage. I must say I’m so happy that Angie took him and I hope other children in the orphanage will be as lucky.
Thanks, and yes Angie has always been small. And it’s the very reason the rags don’t post truth pictures of her to show that very thing.
They want to use Tomb Raider time frame as a measuring stick but we all know Angie had to work for months to get that big. And they still have to use padding, too.
Passing Through - PMBP lol
I’m going to refrain from comment but can’t help but asking “Is Huvane insane??!!”
==========
No, I don’t think Huvane is insane, it’s the two of them,X and Huvane are both insane. she’s becoming the laughing stock of HW. at the end of the day, PMBP will came out as winner. he got the free fxxxk, money, a little fame which might give him some job opportunity just like K-Fed.
#302 So far PMPB has scored a reality show and a front cover of People, there has not even been a single picture of them together. The guy is the one cashing in. We have gone through this motion with VV, it’s happening again.
He’s a ladies man as well, has had a string of famous girlfriends including All Saints stars Shaznay Lewis and Nicole Appleton. And he revels in his reputation as a womanizing lothario, the report claims. In a 1997 interview with the Mirror, he bragged: “I’ve never had any problems with girls. I’ve turned heads.”
“If a stunning girl came up to me, I’d try to hit on her. So they try to hit on me - it’s no different.” - PMBP.
This is kind of off topic, but I read somewhere a while ago in a article, I think it was last year, that Angelina Jolie was in talks or rumoured to be playing the Red Queen in Phantasmagoria: The Visions Of Lewis Caroll. You know the Marilyn Manson, Lily Cole, Evan Rachel Wood film and I think that Tilda Swinton’s in it too. It’s probably false considering that Sin City turned out to not be happening and it doesn’t really seem like her kind of film, but I was wondering if anybody ever heard anything about this?
The Tehuacan Project:
When little Lucia’s mother discovered her child was deaf, she was determined to do whatever she could to provide an education for her. This would prove to be a daunting task, since Lucia and her mother live in rural Mexico there was no school in the country dedicated to educating deaf children. This is the story of Lucia and others like her who have found their way to Tehuacan, Mexico, and the “Casa del Niño Sordo”, Mexico’s first school for the deaf. This is also the story of how a simple idea, determined parents, and dedicated volunteers banded together to create something remarkable and in doing so they gave these children hope for a viable future, where there was none before.
This duo I mean Huvane and Jen are so predictable.
Of course the first pictures will come out around AMH premiere, I can even picture it, Jen and PMBP accompanied by Norman and Dolly walking on the beach as the sun sets. Wait didn’t we see that scenario with VV? I guess this is act two :-)
I hope PMBP gets mega bucks. This could be his very first acting job.
Question, when was it that VV’s car was parked in front of Jen’s house all night long? Two or three weeks ago? Jen sure has a revolving door.
oceans la premiere @ 06/11/2007 at 1:35 am
I did not realize it was that big of a event:
Almost the entire section of Hollywood Boulevard from Orange to Highland was lined with fans. Closer to the Chinese Theater, sidewalks were filled at least six deep and impassable.
Security maven Ralph Pipes said it was “the biggest crowd we’ve ever had.” And in jaundiced Hollywood understatement, one industryite described the milieu as “a little much, but whatever.”
The scene was like a scaled-down Academy Awards in which the primary fan focus was on two stars: Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Pic’s other actors — George Clooney, Matt Damon et al. — got cheers, but the Pitt-Jolie combo drew most of the screams.
In a clever move, Pitt and Jolie spent most of their arrival time signing autographs up and down the boulevard, then scooted past the camera and TV crews. The message was love the fans; love the media less.
162 Question
I was going to ask the same question. That has always bothered me. I live in in the northwest and if I go to Yahoo around 11:00 am west coast time the already have the figures. Which I think is wrong. Today I went to see O13 at 1:15 pm and the theater was 3 /4 full. It’s to late to count those numbers, and whatever was quoted earlier today will not change the gross for tomorrow. I follow these things closely because I usually want to know how the films I like did. I think they should wait until maybe 6:00 pm eastern time, because that would give a better indication of boxoffice grosses. Peace
Do you see a favoritism here? Here is a guy who does a lot of good things for kids with the Ricky Martin Foundation, which advocates for child welfare around the world, who has donated millions of dollars to the needy, including victims of Katrina among many, yet when he serves as the king of the PR Day Parade he gets blasted. On the other hand, we have Angelina, who being the wacko that she is, or was, and doing good things also, gets praised by almost everyone on JJ. Do you think that is fair? He gets blasted for being gay, even if no one is sure of that. And Angelina gets praised, even when everybody knows about what she really is. Do you see what I mean when I talk about this being a worship site.
Okay, was just lurking but saw the X had a lot of posts so just had to add to the numbers here. Guess some BAMPZS fans just can’t resist going there to duke it out with the ’stons regarding her new man.
The celeb shows and tabs are already doing their utmost to get another Brangelina vs. XY or Z. They want the feud to go on so they can sell more mags and get more viewers. Let’s hope Paris is enough to put a damper on the whole thing. Freaking Posh is doing everything she can to put herself out there so she’ll use any means to garner publicity. She was probably the one that introduced that guy to the man hunting ex. A quid pro quo going on?
Unfortunately O13 doesn’t come out in Australia until Thursday. I’ve been watching ‘Taking lives’ instead. For some reason I thought I had seen this before so never got it out at the video store. It was great. Angelina plays the lead role along side Ethan Hawk and Kiefer Sutherland. She suits this thriller genre perfectly. There is nothing she can’t pull off. I hope she continues to act even if it’s just every now and again. If you missed ‘Taking Lives’ I recommend watching it.
$37.1 million for Ocean's 13 @ 06/11/2007 at 6:12 am
Associated Press
LOS ANGELES — Audiences anted up for the Warner Bros. caper Ocean’s Thirteen, the third of George Clooney and Brad Pitt’s casino-heist romps, which debuted as the top flick with $37.1 million US, according to studio estimates yesterday.
Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, the No. 1 movie the previous two weekends, sank to second-place with $21.3 million, raising its domestic total to $253.6 million.
Sony’s Surf’s Up, an animated adventure about surfing penguins featuring the voices of Shia LaBeouf and Jeff Bridges, debuted in fourth-place with $18 million. That was less than half the $41.5 million opening weekend of last fall’s animated-penguin hit Happy Feet.
Lionsgate’s gory horror sequel Hostel: Part II, about rich people who pay to kill victims in grisly ways, opened at No. 6 with $8.75 million, less than half the $19.6 million debut of last year’s Hostel.
The three blockbusters that debuted in May — Pirates of the Caribbean, DreamWorks Animation’s Shrek the Third and Sony’s Spider-Man 3 — all have trailed off with big drops in revenue after huge first weekends.
Ocean’s, Shrek sequels raise stakes at international box office
Jeremy Kay in Los Angeles
11 Jun 2007 01:21
Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End remained the undisputed box office champion for the third consecutive weekend as an estimated $51.3m raised the tally to $493.5m.
The high seas adventure is now Buena Vista International’s third biggest release behind Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest and Finding Nemo, and ranks as the 15th biggest international release overall.
The $747.1m global gross places At World’s End at number 23 in the all-time pantheon. There were number one holds in most of the territories where Ocean’s Thirteen and Shrek The Third didn’t get a foothold this weekend.
Among the highlights were a $9m weekend haul in Japan, a $60m running total in the UK, and $30.7m and $29m to date in South Korea and Russia, where the third pirate instalment is biggest film ever released.
At World’s End has overtaken the final total of its predecessor in 16 territories including Russia, South Korea Mexico, Brazil, Singapore and Hong Kong.
Opening day-and-date with North America, Warner Bros Pictures International’s (WBPI) Ocean’s Thirteen grossed $28m and 4.1million admissions from more than 4,200 prints in 30 markets.
The crime caper opened top in the UK on $6.1m from 699 prints, Spain on $3.4m from 487, Italy on $2.4m from 526, Taiwan on $826,000 from 85, and second in Germany behind At World’s End on $4m including previews on 768.
Other number one releases included Greece on $1.1m from 118 prints, Austria on $790,000 from 111, and Turkey on $727,000 from 114.
Meanwhile Zodiac raised its running total by $3.6m from more than 1,800 prints in 44 markets to $32.6m. The serial killer mystery opened in second place in Belgium on $208,000 including previews. Germany has produced $1.5m after two weekends, and after four the UK stands at $6.1m, France $7.8m, Spain $3.9m, and Australia $3m.
Shrek The Third was in bullish mood this weekend as it launched in a further 14 territories, taking $25m from 1,852 sites in 23 territories overall through Paramount/PPI for an early $54.5m tally.
The film excelled in South Korea, where audiences have been highly receptive to Hollywood blockbusters so far this summer, and produced the biggest launch for an animated film on $11.3m from 536 screens over five days, some 180% bigger than the launch of Madagascar.
Shrek The Third also opened top in Australia on $8.5m from 276 sites, and generated $1.3m in New Zealand, and $1.2m in Colombia. Results in the Middle East were impressive, as the green ogre produced record animated launches in UAE on $600,000 over four days, and Egypt on $50,000 over five.
Preliminary results indicate the film has amassed $1.8m after two weekends in Singapore, where it is also delivered a record launch for an animated release. Thailand stands at $547,000 after two. Shrek The Third opens in a further 13 territories this upcoming weekend including France, Mexico, Brazil, and Taiwan.
Sony Pictures Releasing International (SPRI) reported a $7m weekend for Spider-Man 3 from 6,205 screens in 77 markets. The film now stands at $539m and will overtake Da Vinci Code’s $539.7m this week to rank as the 11th biggest international release in history.
SPRI executives said the web-slinger ranks fifth in the UK on $66.1m, fifth in Japan on $54.3m, fourth in France on $52.9m, third in Mexico on $35m, fourth in Australia on $19.2m, second in Brazil on $23.7m, and fifth in Spain on $24.9m.
The animated penguin film Surf’s Up opened number one in two territories day-and-date with North America and grossed $2.1m from 400 screens overall. It took $1.9m from 340 in Russia, and $175,000 from 60 in the Ukraine.
Hostel: Part II also launched day-and-date with North America in two, taking $465,000 from 140 screens. The horror sequel opened fifth in Australia on $310,000 from 100, and fourth in Argentina on $90,000 from 28.
Mr. Bean’s Holiday grossed $750,000 from 1,200 venues in 35 territories for $182.4m through Universal/UPI. There are three more territories to release: China on Jul 27, South Korea in August and Japan in the autumn.
The Hitcher, which Universal/UPI is distributing in the UK and Spain, added $162,000 from 216 sites in the UK, where it ranks eighth on $865,000. It opens in Spain on Aug 3.
Hot Fuzz opened in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and Poland and remains active in seven other territories. The comedy stands at $50.1m and opens in Germany and Switzerland on Jun 14.
Why Angelina Jolie, Common ‘Wanted’ To Work With Red-Hot Russian Director
Timur Bekmambetov’s U.S. debut being described as a ‘Watchmen’ for supervillains.
By Larry Carroll
In the opinion of many genre-film fans, the most visually arresting images of the past half-decade didn’t come from the works of Spielberg, Fincher, Aronofsky or Tarantino. Instead, they were conceived by Timur Bekmambetov, the affable Russian whose “Night Watch”/”Day Watch” series has captured the razzle-dazzle of Hollywood’s blockbusters for mere pennies on the dollar.
His loyal fanbase has long wondered what it would be like if Bekmambetov ever got his hands on an American production. In nine months, they’ll have their answer.
” ‘Wanted’ is an embracement of a new reality,” said Bekmambetov, admitting that his tenuous grip on the English language is less of a liability given the international language of the action flick. “I’m just trying to be myself. It’s understood that [my American cast and I] are the same, and the same things make us tick.”
Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, Common and James McAvoy are just a few of the high-powered stars who hunted down Bekmambetov when they heard he was making “Wanted,” a slick comic book thriller that’s been called a “Watchmen” for supervillains (see “Common Exclusive: MC To Act Alongside Angelina Jolie In Ultra-Violent ‘Wanted’ “). Calling in from the Prague set to promote his currently in-theaters “Day Watch,” the director gave us an exclusive preview of the next world he’s creating.
” ‘Wanted’ is the story of a young boy who discovers that his father is a member of an evil organization that controls the world — when he gets killed, the boy wants revenge,” the director said of the “Bourne Identity”-like setup, which casts “Last King of Scotland” star McAvoy as the villainous protagonist. “It’s a comic book movie, but it looks real. For me, it’s the same experience as ‘Night Watch’ and ‘Day Watch’ because what we are trying to do is tell a fantasy story with real drama and without conventions. Every time, we are undercutting it with reality.”
Based on Mark Millar’s stunning graphic-novel series, “Wanted” gives us an angst-ridden, 25-year-old cubicle slave (think “Fight Club”) laid low by a disloyal girlfriend and a domineering boss. After discovering that his late dad was a member of the Fraternity — a secret league of assassins — he realizes he’s been blessed with extraordinary powers that make him a perfect recruit. With help from some atypical tutors, he soon finds himself carrying out the death orders of the Fates, literal weavers of every human’s lifeline.
“This is ‘Night Watch’ and ‘Day Watch’ but four times together,” Bekmambetov said of the film’s scope. “It’s much, much bigger. We built a huge textile factory in Prague. … The production designer, John Myhre, made ‘X-Men,’ ‘Chicago’ and ‘Memoirs of a Geisha.’ He’s built this huge set, and we’ve created a mythology in this world of weavers.”
Although the violent/sexy, reality/fantasy mix would seem to play to the strengths of Jolie in particular, Bekmambetov is quick to insist that the film won’t be “Tomb Raider 3.”
“Angelina had seen ‘Night Watch,’ and she liked it,” he said, referring to the trippy flick that broke Russian box-office records before its successful run in the States last year. ” ‘Wanted’ is something new for her; she just wants to do something new every time, and I like that. She understands what it means to be with our team.
“Young people will like [McAvoy's Wesley Gibson] because he is very sarcastic, very smart, very provocative and very solid as a character,” the filmmaker continued. “Angelina has a lot of interesting dramatic moments with James. They will love each other, and they will hate each other. She’s a teacher who will bring James into this world and teach him how to be different, be a killer.”
Along the way, Wesley will also encounter the Gunsmith, a tough-guy character played by actor/rapper Common. “We shot him today, in a scene with a gun,” Bekmambetov said excitedly. “He teaches people how to use guns. He’s a professional gunman.”
Finally, Bekmambetov revealed one more piece of casting, saying he wanted to keep an old friend around for his new gig: “We have Konstantin Khabensky, Anton from ‘Night Watch.’ He’s playing in this movie, too, and he has a very funny character.”
The director said he plans to once again create a reality brimming with visual revelations — and then take it all apart. “We will create a world, and then we will destroy this world,” he laughed. “The hero will discover the whole world. It looks ordinary, but it’s not. It’s an industrial world filled with weaving machines, lots of traps, lot of looms flying back and forth and predicting the future. The looms weave these fabrics, and the fabrics have a pattern, like a binary code, that has information. The weavers can read the fabric — they see the structure of it and they can read its messages. Then they know who has to be killed to keep the balance of the world.”
Sure, it seems hard to explain — but then again, try describing “Day Watch” or “Night Watch” to someone who can’t simply sit back and soak in the visual feasts.
When all is said and done, there’s only one more thing that Bekmambetov wants us to know about the flick. “We’re on track for next March,” he said.
Check out everything we’ve got on “Wanted.”
Really? Justin and Britney? LOL
I’m glad that particular thread doesn’t interest me at all. So, I have no need to go over there as the subject doesn’t interest me. To tell you the truth, I’m glad the fans who want to talk about her are over there instead of talking about her on this thread.
Why Angelina Jolie, Common ‘Wanted’ To Work With Red-Hot Russian Director
Timur Bekmambetov’s U.S. debut being described as a ‘Watchmen’ for supervillains.
By Larry Carroll
In the opinion of many genre-film fans, the most visually arresting images of the past half-decade didn’t come from the works of Spielberg, Fincher, Aronofsky or Tarantino. Instead, they were conceived by Timur Bekmambetov, the affable Russian whose “Night Watch”/”Day Watch” series has captured the razzle-dazzle of Hollywood’s blockbusters for mere pennies on the dollar.
His loyal fanbase has long wondered what it would be like if Bekmambetov ever got his hands on an American production. In nine months, they’ll have their answer.
” ‘Wanted’ is an embracement of a new reality,” said Bekmambetov, admitting that his tenuous grip on the English language is less of a liability given the international language of the action flick. “I’m just trying to be myself. It’s understood that [my American cast and I] are the same, and the same things make us tick.”
Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, Common and James McAvoy are just a few of the high-powered stars who hunted down Bekmambetov when they heard he was making “Wanted,” a slick comic book thriller that’s been called a “Watchmen” for supervillains (see “Common Exclusive: MC To Act Alongside Angelina Jolie In Ultra-Violent ‘Wanted’ “). Calling in from the Prague set to promote his currently in-theaters “Day Watch,” the director gave us an exclusive preview of the next world he’s creating.
” ‘Wanted’ is the story of a young boy who discovers that his father is a member of an evil organization that controls the world — when he gets killed, the boy wants revenge,” the director said of the “Bourne Identity”-like setup, which casts “Last King of Scotland” star McAvoy as the villainous protagonist. “It’s a comic book movie, but it looks real. For me, it’s the same experience as ‘Night Watch’ and ‘Day Watch’ because what we are trying to do is tell a fantasy story with real drama and without conventions. Every time, we are undercutting it with reality.”
Based on Mark Millar’s stunning graphic-novel series, “Wanted” gives us an angst-ridden, 25-year-old cubicle slave (think “Fight Club”) laid low by a disloyal girlfriend and a domineering boss. After discovering that his late dad was a member of the Fraternity — a secret league of assassins — he realizes he’s been blessed with extraordinary powers that make him a perfect recruit. With help from some atypical tutors, he soon finds himself carrying out the death orders of the Fates, literal weavers of every human’s lifeline.
“This is ‘Night Watch’ and ‘Day Watch’ but four times together,” Bekmambetov said of the film’s scope. “It’s much, much bigger. We built a huge textile factory in Prague. … The production designer, John Myhre, made ‘X-Men,’ ‘Chicago’ and ‘Memoirs of a Geisha.’ He’s built this huge set, and we’ve created a mythology in this world of weavers.”
Although the violent/sexy, reality/fantasy mix would seem to play to the strengths of Jolie in particular, Bekmambetov is quick to insist that the film won’t be “Tomb Raider 3.”
“Angelina had seen ‘Night Watch,’ and she liked it,” he said, referring to the trippy flick that broke Russian box-office records before its successful run in the States last year. ” ‘Wanted’ is something new for her; she just wants to do something new every time, and I like that. She understands what it means to be with our team.
“Young people will like [McAvoy's Wesley Gibson] because he is very sarcastic, very smart, very provocative and very solid as a character,” the filmmaker continued. “Angelina has a lot of interesting dramatic moments with James. They will love each other, and they will hate each other. She’s a teacher who will bring James into this world and teach him how to be different, be a killer.”
Along the way, Wesley will also encounter the Gunsmith, a tough-guy character played by actor/rapper Common. “We shot him today, in a scene with a gun,” Bekmambetov said excitedly. “He teaches people how to use guns. He’s a professional gunman.”
Finally, Bekmambetov revealed one more piece of casting, saying he wanted to keep an old friend around for his new gig: “We have Konstantin Khabensky, Anton from ‘Night Watch.’ He’s playing in this movie, too, and he has a very funny character.”
The director said he plans to once again create a reality brimming with visual revelations — and then take it all apart. “We will create a world, and then we will destroy this world,” he laughed. “The hero will discover the whole world. It looks ordinary, but it’s not. It’s an industrial world filled with weaving machines, lots of traps, lot of looms flying back and forth and predicting the future. The looms weave these fabrics, and the fabrics have a pattern, like a binary code, that has information. The weavers can read the fabric — they see the structure of it and they can read its messages. Then they know who has to be killed to keep the balance of the world.”
Sure, it seems hard to explain — but then again, try describing “Day Watch” or “Night Watch” to someone who can’t simply sit back and soak in the visual feasts.
When all is said and done, there’s only one more thing that Bekmambetov wants us to know about the flick. “We’re on track for next March,” he said.
Some of you are really amazing.
You consider yourself BAMPS funs and yet you flood X thread with your posts.
Why cant we just focus on the positive. Going to that posts makes you look like you have not moved on. I as a fun would like to think that B & A would give a rats ass about who X is seeing so lets move away from the negativity.
On a different note,,, Loved Oceans Thirteen. You should all go and watch it!!!!
ROTFLMFAO! Excuse me for putting this here, but there’s no way I’m going to X’s thread….
I just saw on Jared’s homepage that PMBP (Poor Man’s Brad Pitt) “spent the night” at X’s. Once again X doesn’t disappoint in her obviousness - Oceans 13 came out this weekend and everybody knows that weekend box office numbers are due out on Sundays. So lo and behold…who’s seen leaving X’s abode but PMBP. So X is once again piggy-backing on Brad’s back for some free publicity. Doesn’t she ever get tired of being so pathetic?
Now US LIES WEEKLY has to asked themselves - were we played AGAIN? X leaks the boyfriend story to People…Huvane denies to US. Now PMBP is seen leaving X’s house, which apparently means it’s not “too early in the relationship” to screw PMBP…just too early to call him a “boyfriend”. Still…you’ve got to hand it to X. B#tch has been planning this move for a good month.
again and again. ONLY PT would come up with that name….it’ll stick, you watch!
Hey Lady Dragonfly! What’s it like over on the x-way? I read the first few this morning, then just couldn’t be bothered…it was too nice outside today.
*************************************
Hahahaaaa!! PT, once again has pretty much summed it up.
OC, it was a complete and total waste of an hour last night to lurk over there and read that ignorant tripe, but the laugh was worth it! haha!! There were a few posters that I didn’t recognize the names of attempting to illuminate the dark corners of a few minds…it’s probably people I know under assumed names, but I certainly don’t hold that against anyone. Who can resist trying to set the record straight, no matter how futile the effort? haha!
Here’s to Brad and Angie and their authentic life! It’s perfectly clear to me who the genuine pair is and who are just a couple of plastic fakers. It’ll stay in the light from now on.
Sorry forgot the Z on my BAMPZS.
Oh My God…I sooooooooo want to see “Wanted,” now. It sounds incredible!! :-)
I haven’t see Bekmambetov movies. I’ll try to watch Night Watch.
Me too! I am glad to see Angie hasn’t completely abandoned dark roles. She’s made to play dark, edgy characters, and that’s how I have always liked her best.
I’d love to see a movie where she and Brad both play quirky, dark roles with a dollop of sexual tension thrown in. It would be nice to see them in something where they can both totally get so much onto a character that we actually forget who they are for a even a few minutes. *That* would be kewl!
Dragonfly @ 06/11/2007 at 9:01 am
Did the whole “Parade” article get posted anywhere?
Wanted sounds good. I wonder when Angie will continue the filming in Chicago.
For the AMH premier in NY, I think Brad and Angie both will walk down the RC and sign as they did in O13 LA premier. But I think they both will wear dark suit/dress and will be more serious and less laughing/smiling.
As for the Jen thread, as someone mentioned please do not go there and do not post. If we do not forget about so called triangle tabloid will never forget. Let’s ignore. Just let Jen enjoy her life as she wishes. She has nothing to do with Brad/Angie and their children.
mezgelina @ 06/11/2007 at 9:04 am
dude im having withdrawls without any new treads on brad and angie!!! help jared plz do something i’m going mental!!! thankx
In the pictures above, Brad doesn’t look so good face wise, but I find him hot. A few years ago, when the world would drool over him and his body, I didn’t get his appeal.
Now, seeing him aged, tired, with some gray hair on his face, I find him so attractive. And I realize why that is. It’s the way Angelina describes him as being this great father, husband, and a good brother in law to Jamie when he hugged him when Jamie was crying. The women from Brad’s past did a great disservice to him by masking this great guy by making him appear less than what he actually was. Angie is the first one to hightlight his good attributes. There are a lot of physically appealing people in Hollywood, but the more I learn about them, the more they turn me off. With Brad and Angelina it’s different. The more I learn about them, the more appealing they become.
It’s not hard to find guys more good looking than Brad. It’s not so hard to find guys richer than him. It’s not hard to find other famous actors. But it’s hard to find guys that look like Brad, that are famous like Brad, that are as good fathers as Brad, that are as good partners as Brad, and that are as good human beings as Brad, in one person.
Somebody else said it best, he’s the whole package.
cant wait for “WANTED”
#348..and the more we love them!
Great! I’ll check there. Thanks again!
Yes folks, I’ve seen the Ocean’s 13 last Saturday. I dragged my brother & a friend to see it. The theater was sold-out same as the next show time. I love it. Better than the 2nd Ocean. I love the end part where George mention to Brad about having 2 kids & all the theater-goers laughed & swooned.
They previewed ” A Mighty Heart” & people stay silent & really gets into seeing this clip. You can hear some buzz going on. Really surreal experience.
I cannot wait to see the movie first hand on June 22nd. And about the “Wanted” movie…I would not miss it for the world.
This duo I mean Huvane and Jen are so predictable.
Of course the first pictures will come out around AMH premiere, I can even picture it, Jen and PMBP accompanied by Norman and Dolly walking on the beach as the sun sets. Wait didn’t we see that scenario with VV? I guess this is act two
I hope PMBP gets mega bucks. This could be his very first acting job.
Question, when was it that VV’s car was parked in front of Jen’s house all night long? Two or three weeks ago? Jen sure has a revolving door.
++++++++++++++
ROTFL. X and PMBP on the beach with Norman & Dolly, huh? Let’s all hope X has her top on and won’t be suing the razzi she hires to take the photo.
As for VV’s car - it’s been seen overnight a few times, the last time about 3 weeks ago. Just to keep things moving along X has put the revolving door on her v-a-g-i-n-a. She’s bringing a whole new meaning to In & Out Burgers.
From Variety @ 06/11/2007 at 9:55 am
‘Pirates’ ship-shape overseas
‘Ocean’s’ brings in $28 million
By DAVE MCNARY
‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’ topped $51 million to win its third weekend at the foreign wickets.
The buccaneers stayed on course in a robust frame at the international box office, as “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” sailed to its third weekend victory with $51.3 million at 17,500 playdates in 103 markets.
Disney’s pirates fended off their first serious challenges as Warner Bros.’ “Ocean’s Thirteen” opened solidly with $28 million from 4,200 in 30 markets — including 20 first-place finishes — and Paramount’s “Shrek the Third” grabbed serious green in its first major expansion with $25 million at 1,852 in 25 territories, setting several records.
And with the sixth frame of Sony’s “Spider-Man 3″ ensnaring $7 million at 6,205, the frame underlined the dominance of the third versions of mega-tentpoles in foreign markets — where studios take in 60%-70% of their worldwide grosses on high-profile fare. The third “Pirates” pic and “Spider-Man 3″ have already combined for more than $1 billion overseas; the two franchises have now combined for nearly $3 billion in foreign grosses.
Overall foreign biz posted socko results compared with the year-ago frame, when soccer’s World Cup launch chilled international moviegoing as the fourth frame of “The Da Vinci Code” led with $22 million.
For the second weekend in a row, “At World’s End” declined by 50% on the foreign front as it again showed more traction internationally than domestically. It held best in Latin America, with a 42% slide, and in Asia at 44%, while Europe slid a steeper 57% amid direct competition from “Ocean’s Thirteen.”
The third “Pirates” should become the 15th film to cross the $500 million mark for international grosses today or Tuesday. And with combined domestic and foreign box office nearing $750 million, pic’s on target to join 17 others with worldwide grosses topping $800 million by the end of next weekend — even with more serious competition via the worldwide launch of Fox’s “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.”
“At World’s End” performed best by far in Japan, where it remained unchallenged by other tentpoles. It saw a decline of only 26% to $9 million at 871, lifting that market’s cume past $50 million. It finished a sturdy second in the U.K., 21% behind “Ocean’s Thirteen” with a 56% drop to $4.7 million at 552 for a Brit cume of almost $67 million; and in France, free of competish from “Ocean’s Thirteen,” the buccaneer biz fell only 29% to $3.9 million at 783.
“At World’s End” finished behind “Ocean’s Thirteen” in Germany with a 59% decline to $3.3 million at 1,568 and took in more than $2 million in Mexico, Australia and South Korea, where the pirates’ cume has hit $30.7 million — a record for a Hollywood pic. In Russia, the pirates’ $1.5 million lifted the territorial total to $28.7 million, topping “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” as the highest U.S. grosser ever.
Third “Pirates” pic is less than $150 million behind the final foreign cume of $642 million for “Dead Man’s Chest” and will receive one more boost Tuesday when it opens in China, its final market. It’s already topped its predecessor in Mexico with $21 million, in Brazil with $12.8 million, in Hong Kong with $4.9 million, in India with $4.1 million and in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
“Ocean’s Thirteen” — viewed as an effective counterprogrammer after the pirates and Spidey dominated the international market for the past five frames — turned in its top perfs in the U.K., with $6.1 million at 699; in Germany, with $4 million at 768 (including previews); in Spain, with $3.4 million at 487; in Italy, with $2.4 million at 526; and in Greece, with $1.1 million at 118.
“Thirteen” led the booming Russian market, but estimates weren’t available Sunday; it also won in Austria, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Norway, the Philippines, Portugal, Taiwan, Turkey and the UAE. Given the solid overseas traction seen by “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Ocean’s Twelve” — which combined for more than half a billion dollars in foreign grosses — the star-laden caper comedy should have plenty of gas in the tank through midsummer as it gradually expands its markets.
“Shrek the Third” showed serious box office muscle in its expansion, gobbling the most green in South Korea, with $11.27 million at 536, as it easily bested the “Shrek 2″ mark for top animated launch. Its Oz debut of $8.5 million at 276 topped “Spider-Man 3″ by an impressive 9%; it also hit seven figures in New Zealand, with $1.3 million, and in Colombia, with $1.15 million, and set records in the UAE and Egypt for animated launch.
“Shrek the Third,” which has cumed $54.5 million foreign and $337 million worldwide, should see beefy returns next weekend amid launches in Brazil, France and Mexico as Par opens the pic to coincide with summer vacations. Expectations are sky-high given the $400 million-plus that “Shrek 2″ grabbed overseas.
“Spider-Man 3″ showed durability as its foreign cume hit $539 million, led by the U.K. with $66 million and Japan with $54.3 million and France with $52.9 million. Its worldwide total has hit $864 million for 12th place on the all-time list.
The frame’s notable nonsequel biz came from a pair of Warner pics — “Zodiac,” with $3.6 million at 1,800 in 44 markets, and “300,” with an impressive Japanese launch of $3.5 million at 453 (including previews). “Zodiac” has racked up $32.7 million overseas, nearly matching the disappointing domestic cume; “300″ has hit $236.8 million outside the U.S., eclipsing the Stateside total by $27 million.
Sony saw solid numbers from its day-and-date launches of “Surf’s Up” in Russia with $1.9 million at 340 and in the Ukraine with $175,000 at 60. Studio’s holding off on sending the toon into many major markets until late summer.
Universal’s sturdy “Mr. Bean’s Holiday” tacked on $750,000 at 1,200 for a cume of $182.4 million. And “Hostel: Part II” scared up a moderate $465,000 on 140 in Australia and Argentina for Sony.
I know every free to post her/his comments everywhere but if really love the royal couple please don’t give Chin more attentions for nothing .I hope, we can take advise to each other .Please boycott Chin ’s thread
