Tue, 12 June 2007 at 12:57 pm
Funny lady Jenny McCarthy and her son 5-year-old son Evan Joseph Asher take to the skies at LAX airport on Monday in Los Angeles.
In May 2007, Jenny, 34, announced that Evan was diagnosed with autism. She recently penned about her experience, titled “Louder Than Words: A Mother’s Journey in Healing Autism.” Both mother and son are on the cover (see below)!
“It’s a heartbreaking story about a serious health issue,” Jenny has said.
“Louder Than Words” will be released on September 6 but you can pre-order it now from Amazon.

I like Jenny, she’s funny and cool. Her kid is cute and she seems like a loving mom. I’m so happy for her and Jim, I hope their relationship will last.
WOW, I did not know that. He looks just like his father. She looks like she relates to him well and he with her. She will alwys be the love of his life and you can tell she feels the same. I LOVE her hair!
Aww I didnt know that her son is autistic. God bless them both. =)
Good for her for not locking him in a closet like the Travoltas.
#4 WTF, that’s funny as hell.
Love Jenny, she’s awesome.
Travoltas kids have austic kids?
#6, According to some reports their son Jett is autustic, but I dont think either John nor his wife have ever spoken publicly about it. Which is just the same, thats their business.
Yep the TRAVOLTAS have an austic kid & I applaud ALL of the celebs that do not hide thier children that have special needs. I just dont think its healthy.
So, she is going to parade her kid around now since a book is coming out soon. These celebs are so heartless. What with the unfortunate haircut her son has on the front of the book? It is bad enough she has to use her son to write a book. Cant the child have privacy? This is coming from someone who USE to like Jenny. How pathetic to exploit your son.
Maybe some peoples ideas of HIDING a child with autism or whatever they have is actually PROTECTING the childs privacy. Jenny has books about her pregnancy and now I guess she believes she lucked out by having a kid with autism. The heck with protecting his privacy.
Parading him around? They’re at the airport
He’s a cute kid. Good luck to them both ^_^

Oh No, she just brings her kid out when she is preparing to release a book. She is using her child to make money. I am not some huge fan of the Travoltas, but they tend to try to keep a private life. Maybe they feel when the son is ready to let the world know about his autism, he will.
I realize they are just at the airport. But, why is the first time I have seen a picture of him? Oh yeah, a book is coming out.
By the way, he is a cute kid.
Lame @ all the bullshit. The point IS the little boy is cute and its to bad he has a disability.
You all are idots to believe we are just seeing her and her son because she has a book coming out! There have always been photo’s of here and her son you dimwits. And amle to think she thinks she “Lucked Out” to have a child with autism to write and sell a book is so stupid. Yes she has written about her pregnancy and birth, but so what. She told expectant mothers what to expect in all the glory detail that other books want to “Shelter” you from.
Nothing wrong with bringing awareness, she is putting her fame to good use for the sake of kids and families that ensure that health issue. When other ppl do it is ok but for her it is PR? Whateva, I hope it sells well. I loved her books and sure I would love this one .. she writes from experience and is very real about it.
They look so happy. God Bless them both!!!
Does anyone know who makes the sunglasses she is wearing here? I want them!
“Maybe they feel when the son is ready to let the world know about his autism, he will.”
Don’t see how Jett will be able to let the world know anything since he’s reported to be unable to communicate.
Shoot, I dont think I have ever seen pics of John & kellys kids. Hmmmmmm. Maybe it has to do with their religion on why they dont broadcast?
I thought (according to the lovely TMZ) that the Travoltas are denying their son has autism because the Church of Scientology doesn’t recognize it as a disease????
Man that is so sad. I hope though, she will research and reflect on all her previous BAD parenting adivce such as take all the drugs for pain that you can, don’t breastfeed, and the giving of vaccines. Jenny, look back at your bad choices and contrast those with the autism research. Become a TRUE advocate!!
IS AUTISM MORE COMMON IN BOYS. I REALIZE MORE KIDS ARE AUTISM NOW. TONI BRAXTION, HOLLY ROBINSON,JENNY MCCARTHY,JOHN TRAVELOTA AND MORE
I’m shocked that people out there actually think she’s using her son’s disability to raise her own profile!! You’re all so goddamn cynical! Get a clue and realise that not all celebrities are deluded famewh*res. Most of them do normal things parents do, like take their child to the airport or park or the zoo. She gets criticized for taking her son out and living a normal life, but if she were to hide him away, then she’d get blasted as well! Exploiting him would be what Lindsay Lohan’s mother does to her.
Jenny is speaking out about something that many other high-profile people are too afraid to do. Having a sibling with autism, I always find it comforting to know that others out there have a sense of what it’s like living with someone with autism. I take my younger sister to the movies and other public places, not to attract sympathy - but because she deserves a normal as possible life, regardless of other people’s uncomfortableness.
Dear Jenny, Even though you are a Scientologist you have not let that belief system compromise the health and well-being of your precious son - unlike the Travoltas - who refuse to admit their son has the same medical condition. I applaud your tireless effort to heal your son and share your experience and journey with others who are in the same situation as yourself. I admire your strong sense of self and courage in taking up this important issue in Louder Than Words: A Mother’s Journey in Healing Autism and will be first in line 9/6/07 when it comes out.
Miss mcarthy is a sluut who takes off her clothes that’s what she’s good for, wait till you son gets older and see’s how his whhore of a mom he has.
As the mother of an autistic child I am thrilled she came out about this. We have to be careful of where we take our children due to the wide range of sensitivites they may have. Maybe that is why you don’t see a lot of photos of him? Autism has a wide spectrum. Awareness is needed! You go girl……we love you!
Awwww, he reminds me of my own son at that age, diagnosed at 4 at UCLA with autism! Having an autism child is a hard row to hoe no matter who you are. Jen seems like an excellent mom & loves her son very much, u can tell!
A mom loves her kids no matter what, but a disabled child needs love even more and harder, cuz your all they got & they depend on you FOREVER, not likely they will ever be on their own. Of course some recover, but its a small percent.
AUTISM IS A LIFE LONG DISABILITY! And a very lonely life! Divorce rate is 99%. Not many men want a woman with a disabled son. High maintenance. Trust me,I know. I hope Jim can hang in there with them. Jenny has the fight of her life and it doesnt leave much room for careers or relationships. Its a learning curve in the beginning but she has a lot of years ahead yet.
I hope she keeps her feet on the ground and her head outta of the clouds and her humor intact cuz shes going to need it.
She can believe in indigo and crystal children all she wants, but it doesnt change the fact that her son is autistic. That’s reality.
BTW, my son’s doing great, with a lot of years of perserverance and hard work. He speaks and is happy but is limited in what he can do as far as interacting socially, its still hard for him & his ability to handle stress is also limited.
You can take them so far but you cant change public opinion about this disablity any more than you can take the stress out of their daily lives, noise etc.
Most of your their young life you intergrate but when they are older, you spend the rest of your life protecting them from meanies in the public & trying to keep their stress level down. Its hard.
I do things that make my son happy and I keep him at home, but in the community as much as possible.
Its also difficult to trust people in the public arena due to our kids vulnerabilites.
Theres just too many people out there who dont get autism & are there taking advantage of people like our kids who are different.
Its a very misunderstood diagnois and their peers dont have time for someone they think is strange.
Its heartbreaking what a mom of an autistic child watches her child endure.
Jenny good luck, my heart goes out to you. Your child is blessed and so are you,,,,now thats a fact!
You have been given a very special child who will always be child of GOD no matter what their age. They are innocents.
Sincerely, Jane, a parent of autism son diagnosed 1984.
From one mother of an autistic child to another … you go girl! You have the power to bring light to this very dark disorder. I applaud you for seeking biomedical tx for Evan and am thrilled to hear you are working with Dr. Kartzinel. He is truly one of my fave DAN docs. I’m eager to learn more about your story and your battle against the beast “autism”. Your son is truly blessed to have you fight so hard for him and be able to provide him with tx that folks like myself can’t unfortunately afford. Pave the way for the rest of us … and let the world know the real truth behind autism!
