As a way of thanking Angelina Jolie for the tremendous exposure they received after she wore Bochic jewelry to this years Golden Globe Awards, Bochic will be donating the jewelry she wore to USA for UNHCR in support of World Refugee Day, recognized each year on June 20th. In addition to her work in film, Angelina has become well known as a humanitarian, particularly in her role as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees - UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.

“To have one of the most beautiful women in the world wear Bochic jewelry to the Golden Globes, was of course very special for our company. For a long time we have admired Angelina’s commitment to charitable causes, and we are very happy to be able to support her work by donating the jewelry she wore - especially to an organization like USA for UNHCR,” explains David Joseph, Bochic’s President and Co-Founder.

The pieces will be auctioned by charityfolks.com, a leader in online auctions benefiting charitable organizations, with all proceeds going to UNHCR programs in Chad for refugees from the Darfur region.

The Bochic necklace and earrings worn by Angelina to the Golden Globe Awards is a vintage-style suite of rose cut diamonds set in 22K gold.

Just contacted the Zeigfeld theater here in nyc - who confirmed that the premiere of A Mighty Heart is actually scheduled today - it’s a special screening for actors, directors, journalists and guests.

So, yes, Angelina, Brad and the kids are in NYc…and the beautiful couple will walk the red carpet tonight at 7pm….

The original premiere for the 18th - was canceled….

I’m no Oscar prognosticator, but yesterday I saw what I consider to be the first performance that is a lock for a Best Actress nomination – Angelina Jolie in A Mighty Heart. Sure, there are dozens upon dozens of Oscar-bait movies waiting to burst out of the gate this fall, but the actresses in those films will have to settle for one of the other four nomination slots.

It isn’t even that I think Jolie gives such a great performance; while she’s very strong she has a problem with her accent, which seems to slip from French to Count Draculaynian every now and again. She certainly doesn’t give half the performance that my dark horse current fave for a nomination, Marion Cotillard in La Vie En Rose, does. But Jolie has a number of things going for her:

The Movie is Important. In A Mighty Heart Jolie plays Mariane Pearl, the wife of kidnapped and murdered Wall Street Journal journalist Daniel Pearl. The film, directed by Michael Winterbottom in a style that’s half weepie and half neofactualist procedural, is about the month between Pearl’s disappearance and his murder, and how his wife stands tall at the center of the group trying to find him. This is a story that, while it took place five years ago, remains shockingly and depressingly current, and Winterbottom’s movie doesn’t hesitate to look at Pearl’s kidnapping through a complicated, globalist lens. At the same time this is a story of how savage and almost inarguably evil jihadists killed an American Jew in cold blood – the story hits both sides of the aisle. Plus, nominating Jolie means that the real Mariane Pearl might come, and these guys can never pass up that kind of legitimization.

She Changed Her Appearance. This is actually the controversial aspect – Jolie is playing a woman of Afro-Cuban ancestry, and she wears make-up to darken her skin and a big frizzy wig. When I first saw the pictures of Jolie in costume (which also includes a big fake pregnant belly), I thought the film was skirting the edges of good taste – surely there was someone in the world who is the right skin color to play this role? In context it doesn’t seem very offensive, and compared to the Pakistanis with whom she shares the screen, Jolie just looks sort of tanned. While this isn’t a real physical change, like DeNiro gaining weight for Raging Bull, or a ’shocking’ make-up effect, like Kidman having an ugly nose in The Hours, I think the Academy associates any change-up of looks as ‘stretching’ and ‘acting.’

She’s Got a Helluva Scream. I already know what Angelina Jolie’s clip is when they announce the five Best Actress nominees on Oscar night. It’s a scene at the end of the movie where she’s told her husband has been killed; Jolie starts the scene in a numbed, teary silence, and then wanders into her bedroom, slams the door and starts wailing. Jolie’s screams of pain are impressive and primal – you could feel everyone in the theater shifting in their seats as her howls touched some spot deep inside our brains that still operates in a primitive, pre-verbal way. The truth of A Mighty Heart is that the film often wanders away from Mariane Pearl, and she may not be the most fascinating character in the story… but Jolie wrenches the spotlight back to herself with sheer willpower in this scene.

There’s a long time between now and the Oscars, and anything could happen, but this is one you can take to the bank: Angelina Jolie is assured an Oscar nomination for this film.

I know, I didn’t like the whole thing but it wasn’t that bad. At least he didn’t say she was terrible or the movie was terrible or something along those lines. I just want to watch that scene where Angie screams when she’s told about Daniel’s death so bad because so many people have talked about it and how powerful it was. I also hope he’s correct in predicting the Oscar nomination.

Brad and Angelina made multiple stops around the Big Apple on Wednesday. Angelina carried around a bunch of books including “What Is the What: The Autobiography of Valentino Achak Deng” by Dave Eggers. The novel tells the story of a Sudanese refugee and member of the Lost Boys of Sudan program.

Ethiopian refugee Abdissa Aman was named a national photo contest winner for taking a picture that represented his new life in Sioux Falls. He will travel to Washington, D.C., later this month to celebrate World Refugee Day.

The Sioux Falls School Board on Monday night recognized Aman’s achievement as winner of the elementary division of the photo contest sponsored by actress and U.N. High Council on Refugees Ambassador Angelina Jolie.

Aman started in January as a fourth-grader at the Family Immersion Center at Jane Addams Elementary School in Sioux Falls. The photo he took, “Circle of Friends,” is a shot of his friends on the playground.

I just saw a scan of us weekly on jolie makeover from wild to mild it’s another attack from min comparing angie in her billy bob days to how she is now using things she said when with billybob to recent articals and in the corner they say that jolie reveals TMI are they ******* kidding me this is the magazine that scours every media programme and every press interview angie does looking for anything she says just begging for her to throw a few crumbs their way and then they say she reveals too much.I wish someone would get hold of min and smack the **** out of that spiteful ***** i just wish she would leave angie alone.Why is it that angie gets all the **** thrown at her just because she is with brad and don’t get me wrong i really like brad but they never go after him like they do angie.

It’s pretty sad what passes for “journalism” these days. This woman cobbled together some quotes from Cannes and then searched the IMDB for a list of Brad’s upcoming projects. The IMDB is the only place I know of that continues to list Brad for the role of John Dean in “Dirty Tricks”. The movie is slated to start shooting in November of this year…when Brad will be shooting “State of Play”. I seriously doubt he’s going to film two movies at the same time.

Has anyone seen the Africa Vanity Fair issue. THey have all these activist trying to get africa it’s awareness then i flip the page and there is two page poster of Jennifer Aniston advertising SmartWater. I started laughing at how ridiculous it looks to have it right in the middle of the AFrican issue, how freakin ironic. Someone trying to sell expensive water VS. people who can barely get any. DUMB

Nice to see Gawker calling out US on their obsession with how much Angie has changed. I really don’t see what the big deal is - people grow and change a lot in their teens and 20’s. It’s just natural. When I was younger and had my hair punk’d out and was listening to AC/DC my parents thought I’d never end up a University grad. with a good career, but I did. Half the people I know could have a before/after spread like US has done on Angie. So much to do about nothing.

That is one of the things I greatly admire about Angie. How many people are so ashamed of their pasts they’d rather hide from them? Angie has put it out there for everyone to see and walks with her head held high. She wouldn’t be where she is today without having experienced those things from her past. I’d also like to believe that whenever Britney, Lindsay, Paris, etc. decide to grow up and do something with their lives that people give them a chance and not remind them of how they messed up constantly. Everyone deserves a chance to grow up.

For me, it’s people that act like their poop don’t stink and look down their nose(s) at Angie. And we know that most people casting those stones have more to hide than someone like Angie.

Thank you, someone gets it. Angie is dressing for the occasion, A Mighty Heart Premiere. She doesn’t want what she’s wearing to detract from the reason she is there, ie the movie.

WOW! Just got the full look at Angie’s dress at Getty. STUNNING! I have to laugh at Brad’s tie though…I haven’t seen one THAT wide in forever and a day :lol: For sure I like the rest of his look though. Hair MUCH better like this. :heart:

Don’t love the dress but don’t hate it either. Maybe it is just because the last three dresses she worn were great. How cute that Brad’s tie seems to match the sash on Angelina dress.

#217 African Girl The reason the us weekly thing annoyed me is because i work at a woman’s centre that deals with self harm,depression and all things that young women go through so when i see so called journalists attacking her because of the life she had before it sends a wrong message to women who have that kind of life now and when i read posts saying oh she’s a cutter and how fucked up she was is why self harm and related issues are still a taboo subject today. The young women i work with look up to angelina and see how she changed her life around and see that it can be done so it really pisses me of that they make it seem that she should be ashamed of her past maybe if these people try to understand these issues then hopefully there will be less ignorance and i think angelina is an amazing woman,inspiring and excellent role model to young women.
