Angelina Jolie: Pimp My Picture, Not My Life!
Angelina Jolie tried to keep things focused during Wednesday night’s NY premiere of A Mighty Heart. Media outlets were required to sign contracts before talking to Jolie (as drawn up by her Hollywood lawyer Robert Offer).
Here were the contract terms for interviewing:
- No questions regarding her personal relationships
- In the event Interviewer does ask Ms. Jolie any questions regarding her personal relationships, Ms. Jolie will have the right to immediately terminate the interview and leave
- The interview may only be used to promote the Picture. In no event may Interviewer or Media Outlet be entitled to run all or any portion of the interview in connection with any other story
- The interview will not be used in a manner that is disparaging, demeaning, or derogatory to Ms. Jolie
- The tape of the interview will not be released to Interviewer if any of the aforementioned things happened
One reporter from a major outlet said, “I wouldn’t sign it. Who does she think she is?”
FOX News reports that USA Today, the Associated Press and other media outlets canceled their interviews with Jolie. When she heard the reaction, Jolie scrapped all print interviews.
Hey Angelina, JustJared.com would have interviewed you!!

The thing is, it’s not a non story. It is a big deal for her, Brad, Marianne, the movie, the studio.
Well no offense but it’s not a big deal to anyone else than because this is the biggest non story I have read LOL. It’s a joke. I think the fans care more than anybody. Two weeks from now no one will give a damn. Including Fox News.
New thread and ohh I see more backlash over the dress than this.
we are all a bunch of speculators. we don’t have any idea about any of this do we? you know it
#250: how many times do I have to tell you that it is not a “journalist” but a whole freaking news network that is up in arms. If you don’t think that’s a big deal, then more power to you. The media is taking this as a story. It will have legs when more people read about this. Couple that with what they think AMH is, not a tribute to Daniel Pearl but something sympathetic to the terrorists. If they don’t see the movie, then they wouldn’t be proven wrong, would they?
You already know how they (the ones you call the minivan majority) perceive Angelina. Would it hurt for them to see that she is not all that the tabs portray her to be?
If you care for Angelina like I think you do, then wouldn’t you want more people to appreciate her efforts and correct the misconceptions about her? This does not add to her attributes and good image. Besides, it’s not good business to antagonize potential ticket buyers when your in the movie business. That is a very important point in all this.
#251: two weeks from now, AMH might not be in a lot of movie theaters. We want the ticket sales to expand, not diminish. Why do you think Paramount became horrified?
Angie is all about extreme she says it herself (Brad grounds her) but once again gone too far. She needs to learn her own boundries and get on the same page as her partner on how they choose to deal with their personal matters. She is always be picked on, I guess like always taking things to the extreme, she took one too many husbands. No matter what she does, she will not get from under this constant judging. Do you think it will break her?
Control Freak~~~~~
we all know Aj doesn’t give a damn. what people ask she will answer.
it’s obvious that Brad and his Pr team are behind this one .
Chez, I just saw your response. I was gone for a while. Your question was:”Why the sudden Change of Heart?” There was no sudden change of heart. Make a distinction between what is written and what is said in live interviews-With Ann Curry she spoke about her mom and brad and kids and this interview was about AMH, but Ann Curry did not pry-In print she spoke about family but the questions were not prying personal ones and she offered the information about PAX and Shiloh. One thing that irks me is the”blob” comment. She didn’t say Blob, the reporter suggested that, I do believe. However, if it was her word, why focus on that one word? It’s the same for Aniston. Aniston clearly said in an Interview that Brad was not THE LOVE of her life. I was thinking to myself, WHAT THEN IS the Love of your life? After the wedding she and Courtney and Lisa gave and interview and Aniston was clearly not overjoyed-
However, this media blitz of stolen husband, cheater, homewrecker, pregnant on purpose, too skinny, kissing brother, poor jen, turn the page, 8 million dollar, CNN “crawl”, vince is a great friend. . . is just or was just a little over the top- to put it in a nut shell
Jolie marches to her own drum, always has always will-
Pitt is happy where he is, if he stays he stays, if he leaves, he leaves,
Aniston FILED for divorce and has said that she has moved on,
You never miss that toy you didn’t want to play with until someone else has it in their hands. . . that, chez is a fact of life
Angelina Jolie has the right to do so. Average citizen is even better protected by law than celebrities. None of us here can bash on or demean our neighbours without consequences… so why shouldn’t Angelina protect herself and her family.
it’s so sad how very few people understand the difference between reporting and mere sensationalism. really…many of the posters in perez and here are saying that it’s ironic blah blah blah because the premiere was for “reporters without borders”?!!
did this people think that “no borders” mean that reporters can just ask silly questions that don’t have anything to do with the movie or, ask about the celebrity’s private life instead of the real purpose of the whole event?!
are these people equating sensationalism with borderless reporting?!
well, here’s the truth! the media does NOT have an all-encompassing right to just field in questions they WANT to ask. instead, they are bound by a huge RESPONSIBILITY to shed light on what an event like this is all about—questions they NEED to ask! so let me explain further:
-instead of just rattling off questions, they should be able to know what’s APPROPRIATE at the moment or on a particular occasion
-responsible reportage is about asking intelligent, well-thought out questions that are meant to dig deeper into the whole focus of the event
-definitely not sensationalize by asking IRRELEVANT questions that stray away from the real topic
-lastly, the MEDIA should have RESPECT for the people they are interviewing or covering. they shouldn’t act as if personalities and celebrities owe their life, careers and their success to them
So, the real question is not for Angie to answer but for these people in the media, the reporters, broadcasters, writers and etc: WHO DO THEY THINK THEY ARE?
Do they think that just because they’re in the media and that they have their all-powerful media badge, they’re superior to everybody else? That celebrities and personalities should bow down to their every whim and grovel at their feet? Well, Angie just gave you the answer: a resounding NO!!!
It’s simple, today’s media must learn the value of real, honest to goodness reporting minus the sensationalism and learn to focus on what’s important–and not bicker and whine like a 7yr old when they don’t get their way!
You guys don’t get it. The press did the right thing in upholding the rights of a free press. They cannot allow people to dictate the content of their own interviews.
It’s irrelevant whether or not Angie’s demand to talk only about the movie is a good idea or not. The point is that in free countries, the press is allowed to ask whatever they want. Likewise, the person being interviewed has the right to not answer the questions. But dictating what questions can and cannot be asked is going too far.
The press owns the interview. They decide what ends up in the published story, not the person interviewed.
That’s why the press decided to bag the interviews.
We love you Angelina Jolie!!! YOU MAY HAVE MORE SUCCESS IN YOUR LIFE, YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
oh and may i just add…reporters and the media are free to choose which angle of the story they want to emphasize but is this angle RELEVANT? if not, then the whole exercise would be futile.
sadly, the media most often chooses to focus on all the juicy aspects of a celebrity’s private life, scandals and mere made-up tales–all geared towards what’s gonna sell and not what’s real.
where’s the integrity in that?!
sorry if i’m babbling but this whole non-issue is just annoying to me!
All I wanna know is when is brad gonna wear some speedos and where will be be when he wears them. Lil’ Angie don’t have to answer nothing but that one question. Just that one. I love Brad-
I wanted to have his baby-
I wanna pour chocolate all over his chest and spread some rediwhip and just lick until my tongue gets tired!!!!
Hallelujah children! Hallelujah!
Yall young girlz jest don’t know-yall jest don’t know!
I think I got it.
You seem to miss the fact that the press junked this opportunity because they saw that not having unlimited access to Jolie as a deal-breaker.
There were other actors in this film; I doubt that they would’ve been subjected to the line of questioning as Angelina.
There is a director; the emphasis could’ve been on his approach to filming this difficult subject.
There are the producers; the difficulties in adapting and executing the concept into film would’ve been a interesting slant.
Instead, they closed the door on the possibilities because Angelina closed the possibilities of expanding on what baby bath she uses; whether she’s going to gain weight anytime soon; which country will she adopt from next; and dozens of other questions that were answered in the magazines.
Face it… the majority of the press have become Stuttering Johns or that cigar-smoking dog puppet from the Conan show.
Fox, USA Today etc. got butthurt because they don’t give a crap about the movie.

Fox, USA Today etc. got butthurt because they don’t give a **** about the movie.
=========================================
Exactly!!!!
These outlets went there with an agenda and we all can see it wasn’t to cover the premiere of a very important movie.

Jane, if you think America is a free country, you are sadly mistaken. The press in this is NOT allowed to ask whatever they want.
H*ll, in this country, the dicatator…I mean the President has town hall meetings where only his supporters are allowed in so they can clap like fools at whatever BS he spouts.
In this country, news channels like CNN, FOX, and MSNBC focus on Paris Hilton going to jail because thats what brings in the ratings and profits. On the same day Paris Hilton was being taken back to court, a senior General of the Miltary was resigning and people were dying in Iraq. And you know what the “free press” decided to focus on? That’s right.
Paris Fcuking Hilton.
And because Angelina Jolie dared to tell the “free press” to stay on topic regarding the movie, they felt offended because their freedom to use Angelina’s personal life and sensationalize it for profit was taken away from them.
This story doesn’t make sense as Angie is one of, if not, THE most transparent Hollywood star ever. She’s never shied away from personal questions before so why would she start now?
Seems like the ultra conservatives have got it in for Angelina now.
I can totally understand why she would want to do this. She wants the movie to be about Daniel & Marianne Pearl, and not about her. If the reporters can’t understand that then it’s their loss. She would openly talk about herself in other interviews but for this movie, she wants the focus to be on the subject matter and discussions about her personal relationships would just distract from it.
Fox is a terrible, one sided news station. They are also known for puting a negative slant on anything that has to do with Peace and Tolerance. So who cares that Fox was singled out. Certainly not me. I also beg to differ that Fox is more popular than CNN.
“Who does she think she is?”
well for starters she’s the star you want to interview, you asshat! Clearly she is sought after and if you were doing YOUR job, you’d interview her about the god damn movie!
I say kudos to her! But, she’s going to feel the backlash from this…. they’ll start runnin’ every nasty POS gossip/rumor they can find in retaliation.
Get Buzzed: Angelina Jolie’s borders

The Courier-Journal
Angelina Jolie tried to censor the press on Wednesday at a red-carpet event intended to benefit Reporters Without Borders, an organization that advocates for freedom of the press.
Jolie, 32, banned Fox News Channel and all Fox affiliates from covering the premiere of her latest film, “A Mighty Heart,” in which she plays the widow of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl.
Jolie then required all journalists covering the fete to sign a contract that barred them from asking anything of a personal nature. Any interviewer who asked questions Jolie deemed inappropriate would not be allowed to keep his or her tape of the interview.
Despite reports that USA Today declined to accept Jolie’s demands and opted out of the interview, editor Lorena Blas said the paper was never offered an interview in the first place.
A year ago, Roger Friedman of Fox News reported that “Jolie and Pitt were responsible for the expulsion of journalists in Namibia where the couple went to have their child, Shiloh.”
Jeff Julliard, editorial director of Reporters Without Borders in Paris, told Friedman he is opposed to Jolie’s actions, past and present.
“Paparazzi should be allowed to do their job,” he said.

“In the most hypocritical move ever, Angelina Jolie tried to censor all her interviews yesterday while promoting A Mighty Heart, her new film about freedom of the press. Jolie had her publicists ban FOX News from the red carpet of her premiere, and then had her lawyer require all journalists to sign a contract before talking to her, which basically said nobody could talk about her personal life and that “the interview may only be used to promote the Picture. In no event may Interviewer or Media Outlet be entitled to run all or any portion of the interview in connection with any other story. … The interview will not be used in a manner that is disparaging, demeaning, or derogatory to Ms. Jolie.”
USA Today and the Associated Press canceled their interviews, and eventually Jolie cut off all print interviews when she heard the reaction. And if all this wasn’t hypocritical enough, the premiere was a benefit for the organization Reporters Without Borders and she’s got a tattoo on her back that says “Know your rights.” How did she go from the hottest woman on the planet to the most annoying one? Nobody would even care about this except that she’s running around the world pretending to be better than everybody else. It’s like finding out instead of helping all those starving children in Africa she’s actually been giving them wedgies.”
