Okay I know there are some who don’t care for LK for various reasons but I must say that I was very happy with the interview. His questions, although not textbook and without emotional $5 words, were still thought provoking and sensitive to the subject matter. My only complaint was it was way too short!!!!!!!!!!!

Angelina Jolie’s true colors came out yesterday as she promoted a film about freedom of the press and then tried to censor all her interviews.

Jolie is touting freedom of the press these days, playing the widow of murdered Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in a new movie called “A Mighty Heart.”

But Jolie turns out to be a mighty hypocrite when it comes to her own freedom of the press. Her lawyer required all journalists to sign a contract before talking to her and Jolie instructed publicists at first to ban FOX News from the red carpet of her premiere.

Ironically, last night’s premiere of the excellent Michael Winterbottom-directed film was meant to support an organization called Reporters Without Borders. Jolie, however, did everything she could to clamp down on the press and control it.

Yesterday, reporters from most major media outlets balked when they were presented with an agreement drawn up by Jolie’s Hollywood lawyer Robert Offer. The contract closely dictated the terms of all interviews.

Reporters were asked to agree to “not ask Ms. Jolie any questions regarding her personal relationships. In the event Interviewer does ask Ms. Jolie any questions regarding her personal relationships. Ms. Jolie will have the right to immediately terminate the interview and leave.”

The agreement also required that “the interview may only be used to promote the Picture. In no event may Interviewer or Media Outlet be entitled to run all or any portion of the interview in connection with any other story. … The interview will not be used in a manner that is disparaging, demeaning, or derogatory to Ms. Jolie.”

If that wasn’t enough, Jolie also requires that if any of these things happen, “the tape of the interview will not be released to Interviewer.” Such a violation, the signatory thus agrees, would “cause Jolie irreparable harm” and make it possible for her to sue the interviewer and seek a restraining order.

I am told that USA Today and the Associated Press were among those that canceled interviews, and eventually Jolie scotched all print interviews when she heard the reaction.

“I wouldn’t sign it,” a reporter for a major outlet said. “Who does she think she is?”

A call to Offer was apparently one that could be refused. He didn’t return calls. An associate, Lindsay Strasberg, said, before hanging up: “You’re a reporter? I can’t talk to reporters. Goodbye.”

So much for reporters without borders.

It is generally understood that interviews conducted with movie stars are unlimited in the range of questions, but it is very rare that reporters are faced with signing agreements in advance that limit or pre-censor their work.

That’s not all: Jolie told Paramount Pictures publicists to ban FOX News Channel and all FOX News affiliates from covering the “Mighty Heart” premiere on the red carpet. It was only with the intervention of mortified Paramount staff that a FNC camera crew was allowed to be present.

Jolie is famous by now for directing press and selling rights to her photos. She has long been in business with People magazine, orchestrating photo shoots of her children. The money, she says, goes to charity.

This column reported a year ago, on June 8, 2006, about how Jolie and Pitt were responsible for the expulsion of journalists in Namibia where the couple went to have their child, Shiloh. Their bodyguards regularly got into fights with local photographers hoping to make some money from the couple’s colonial residency in their country.

After Shiloh was born, Jolie and Pitt gave a news conference, but limited it only to Namibian journalists. No reporters from neighboring countries were allowed. The couple sat on the dais with Sam Nuuyoma, Namibia’s first president, aka dictator, who ruled for 25 years.
In 2002, Nuuyoma abruptly appointed himself minister of information and broadcasting. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, Nuuyoma has routinely attacked reporters from his country calling them “unpatriotic” and “the enemy.”

During the time Pitt and Jolie were in the country, a former photographer for the Namibian, the daily newspaper, was arrested twice for trying to get a picture of the couple. South African John Liedenberg was arrested on municipal property during the Jolie-Pitt stay and pronounced guilty of trespassing. His passport and camera equipment were confiscated as well.

Treatment of the press is so bad in Namibia, in fact, that an organization called the National Society for Human Rights was formed several years ago to protect reporters’ rights.
The NSHR, which is usually busy with more important matters, issued a statement on April 24 strongly condemning the deportation of foreign journalists from Namibia who wanted to cover the Pitt-Jolie visit.

“As the principal human rights monitoring and advocacy organization in this country, we strongly repudiate this unprecedented and blatant violation of the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of speech and expression, which includes freedom of the press and other media,” the statement read.

It’s a little unclear how Mariane Pearl, whom Jolie plays in “A Mighty Heart,” feels about her portrayer’s position on freedom of press for some, but not all. Yesterday, I spoke to Jeff Julliard, the editorial director of Reporters without Borders in Paris.

“Paparazzi should be allowed to do their job,” he said, adding that he condemned Jolie’s banning of FOX News and actions taken on her behalf in Namibia.

Believe it or not, a National Alledger article claimed that her ‘pregnancy’ was a reason she wanted to clamp down on personal questions. She mentioned ‘not getting asked if she was pregnant on LK,’ and isn’t that just ODD that Larry King didn’t follow up with ‘Well…are you pregnant?’ LMAO She addressed adopting (saying not tomorrow) and mentioned bio (but she didn’t say ‘not tomorrow’ for that, did she?) — it’s possible…I’m just saying. :lol:

I love that she and Voight are communicating too.

You guys are amazing fans. Whatever comes Angie’s way, you guys stick up for her and remain loyal even if sometimes you might not agree with her on all things. With all the negative stuff from the haters and media/tabs, you still consider yourselves fans. However many or few we are, I’m just glad that we are fans of Angelina Jolie. :)

Does anyone know if this is it for Angelina in terms of red carpets and interviews to promote AMH? It seems like Brad won’t be doing any interviews or RC’s soon as he has nothing to promote till AOJJ. I hope they go away for a well deserved break. it’s been an intense year for them from the birth of Shiloh to Angelina’s mother’s death to pax’s adoption to the promotion of O13 and AMH. Not to mention Angelina’s charitable work and Brad producing 8 movies.

But you guys realise that after this hoo ha dies down, it’ll be weeks before we get any more news about the Jolie Pitts.

Still as the public whirl about the Jolie Pitts wind down, I’m glad it’s doing so on a high note, for me at least.

(1) The entire Pitt family seem very supportive of Angelina and Brad and the children - each and everyone of them. Note that Angelina said that the grandparents love ALL the children.

(2) though I truly think there is nothing wrong about Angelina kicking her sperm donor who couldn’t even be bothered to pay financial support to his ex wife and children, out of her life if that is the healthy thing to do, I’m also glad to read that she and Jon V are starting to recommunicate through letters. When I first read her statement, I thought Angelina might be saying “I’m getting ready to contact my dad again” ala, Jennifer Anistons words about getting ready to contact her mum again in early 2004. My first thought was oh oh. But true to form, Angelina didn’t announce that she was getting ready to communicate with her dad, she actually IS in communication with her Dad. And for now, that good enough.

I do think with Brad and the whole Pitt family on her team, Jon will learn that he cannot play heavy critical dad. He hasn’t earned the right. But perhaps, JV can be just in the nature of a family uncle or something equivalent. I have this picture in my head that if JV were to step out of line with Angelina or james or the kids, he would have a whole phalanx (sp??) of Pitts standing right behind Angelina looking crossly at JV’s games and saying, “you stop that right now”.

(3) though the press handling did hit a sour note, Angelina did get a chance to address it directly and did so very well. Some people will never be satisfied but that’s a given.

I will also say as the AMH promotion wind to a halt, I’m really really glad that everything went so smoothly. I was afraid there might be demonstrations or worst as this is a highly political movie with some people claiming it to be anti american and others probably claiming it is anti islamic. It looks like over all, it hit the right note.

UPDATE: Angelina just gave photographer James Ambler (from paparazzi agency Splash News) a lift in her SUV after his bike got a flat tire. Aw, how nice!

After the backlash of the morning by mid-afternoon she retract the contract policy and tomorrow at the press conference the reporters will be allowed to ask anything they want.

For some reason here in Seattle we get the TDS a day late. Today is the show from last night. Angelina’s interview will be shown tomorrow. I don’t understand the reason for this. If they are on 5 days a week why not broadcast them on a same day basis. Well I wii hopefully see her tomorrow night. Pleas post some comments. The LK interview was very good. LK was alert tonight, and AJ looked beautiful as usual. She really doesn’t look that thin. Her arms looked normal and she looked radiant. Haters keep repeating the same nonsense over and over. Hey Amaya…re the “chicken” thing — I get nervous watching live tv interviews of my fav stars — I liken it to being like a stage mother, I want them to do so well..that it’s hard for me to watch and NOT be anxiety ridden, so I always ask others for a breakdown, and then at a later date I wil read a transcript, watch on youtube, or catch a repeat…it’s this silly little complex of mine. LOL

Just finished watching John Stewart with Angelina….Very nice and funny interview. Angelina of course was very pleasant and beautiful, in her usual way (wearing a cute black dress)

John asked Angelina what was the controversy about last night’s premiere regarding some journalist complaining not to sign some agreement: According to Angelina, it was actually optional for anyone to sign (meaning it was not obligatory). She also said that it was done by people who represented her (who are just trying to protect her) - but she said she did not really know about it, and therefore if she had known, she would have not agree to do it….

The rest of the interview was about John professing his big crush on Angelina. He offered a playdate to Angelina - and then said, bring the kids along (I’m not sure if non-americans get this joke - it means, that the playdate he is talking about are adult playdate, and that the kids are just to tag along).

John also asked Angelina how many more is she planning to have children - Angelina answered - between seven and fourteen.

Then of course, John was very impressed with the film - and made a joke, saying that “I did not know that you are such a great actress” - John and Angelina worked together in a film long time ago.

The rest, I think Amaya or someone else could fill in…..

Maybe just wishful thinking but she maybe pregnant. Also, I have been looking at videos of the O13 premier and Brad’s hand is constantly always giving her rubs on the side of her stomach..hope that make sense. Usually he rubs her back or give her that little pat and rub here on the hands. But lately its his hand rubbing the side of her tummy.

The one thing I have learned in my life is that a relationship is not about having fun together, it’s not about hiding behind each other and trying to protect each other, but it’s about having a shared view of what you want to create and what you want to do in this world — how you want to raise your family or, if you have a bigger purpose together. And Danny and Mariane had that.

And I’ve, certainly in my life, come to a place of knowing that that is what I need to have. I need to — I need to feel strongly with Brad about how we raise our children, about what we think is right and wrong in the world, what we think is worth fighting for and what is morally, you know, the correct thing.

And if you have that same view, then you can go through anything. And then when you die one day, you look back at your life and you went on this — the right journey together and the same journey.

Observations on “The Assassination of Jesse James”

It’s a long review so I’m going to include just excerpts:

Part I
It would be unfair, as someone who proclaims himself to be a professional movie critic, to review an unfinished movie, especially being aware the cut I saw was one at least three being tested, and from all indication the shortest of the various cuts. Thus, I offer these comments about a film that had been riding high on my radar since it was first announced, and one that, even in this possibly truncated version (if one can indeed call a 140 minute film “truncated”), will likely be atop my personal list of The Best Films of the Year when it is released.

Part II
The name above the title might belong to Brad Pitt, and he does turn in the best performance of his career since “12 Monkeys,” but this is not his film. Remember, the full title of the film includes a second character, and it is Casey Affleck, as Robert Ford, who owns the screen by the time the film is over. His performance is so exceptional and so finely nuanced, many will start to think of Ben second when they think of an acting Affleck. While flashes of brilliance have been seen in Casey’s performances to date, nothing will prepare you for the powerhouse tour-de-force he gives here. Far too long, he’s been hindered with the “Ben’s brother” mark, and its about time he had the chance to smash that discourteous title. We have yet to see Ben pull of this kind of layered, nuanced performance. There are also exceptional performances from Sam Rockwell, Sam Shepard (in an all-too-brief appearance as Frank James), Paul Schneider and Mary-Louise Parker as Jesse’s wife Zerelda, practically the only female in the film.

Part III
”The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” doesn’t try to reinvent the western, so much as bring back to the same kind of timelessness which have made “The Searchers” or “The Wild Bunch” or the westerns of Clint Eastwood favorites for generations. Twenty years on, “Young Guns” feels like even more like the tired ‘80s movie we knew it was when it was first released. Twenty years from now, this film will not be a victim of its time. It will be still be watched and benefit from the attempt to not chase what is hip or hot today.

Part IV
No matter what shape the final film takes, I suspect it will be the best film the genre has seen since the days of Leone and Peckinpah. Yes, “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” is better than “Unforgiven.” Better than “Dances with Wolves.” Better than “Silverado” or “Wyatt Earp” or any other Western in the past thirty years. I cannot wait to see it again for the first time.

The Western is back. Don’t blow it again, Hollywood.

Thank you to those who did the live blogging and the posting of the transcript to Angie’s interview with Larry King. It was a beautiful interview. He stayed right on the topic and asked great questions. And Angie was so articulate. You could really sense how passionate with her mission and her ideals. I really loved what she said about Brad. I have a feeling that I will be watching and reading this interview many many times.

The more read about Angie’s interview, the more respect i have for this woman. she is outstanding, extradinary. she should run for president.

Angelina Jolie is a woman of substance. She is admired all over the world.

I think Angie told Brad she was pregnant in Cannes. It just all makes sense now. I guess he could have been proud of the film and the amazing reception it got - and so was enjoying showing her off..but realistically, I’m sure he had seen the film himself a few times already, as the producer..so it’s not like what AJ did was a surprise. i don’t know if the film will take immediately or will be more of a cult movie in the end, like fight club (which is still on the top of the most bought DVD list).

What is Angelina Jolie, Hollywood’s top-dollar goddess, doing in a lowbudget, post-9/11 drama by a British director known for controversial political films?

The question was on everyone’s lips when Jolie and her partner, Brad Pitt, arrived in Cannes last month to a firestorm of flashbulbs.

The film is Michael Winterbottom’s A Mighty Heart, a harrowing account of the real-life kidnapping and beheading of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl (played by Dan Futterman) in Pakistan in 2002.

Jolie is at its centre as Pearl’s pregnant wife, Mariane, trying to find out who is holding Danny and how she can get him back alive.

It is a performance, said most critics after the film festival premiere, that proves Jolie can act as well as pout - but some remained sceptical.

After all, with her much-publicised “rainbow family” - including three adopted children from Cambodia, Ethiopia and Vietnam plus the daughter she had with Pitt last year - and her conspicuous ambassadorial work for the UN Refugee Agency, Jolie seems to be trying to prove she is more than one half of Hollywood’s most glamorous couple.

Produced by Pitt, the movie does a neat job of recasting her as a heavyweight actress with serious humanitarian credentials.

Might this be her way of proving that she, too, has a mighty heart?

The fact that Jolie arrives at our meeting alone - looking stunning in a black lace Moschino cocktail dress - speaks volumes for her self-possession.

Unlike the majority of Hollywood stars, Jolie does not employ a personal publicist and is happy to answer questions candidly.

She is, unsurprisingly, effusive about Mariane Pearl, whose memoir the film is based on.

“I’ve been able to spend time with her, she is just an extraordinary woman,” she tells me.

“She’s had a very full life and handles everything with immense dignity and grace.

She and Danny were so open to other cultures and other people.

She’s nutty, a great mom and a great woman.”

Jolie seems to see in Mariane a kindred spirit- and it’s the “great mom” aspect that she keeps returning to.

Now 32, she is keen to stress that motherhood is of more importance to her than maintaining the Brangelina brand.

By the time the kids are old enough to really understand all this, hopefully we will be less in the public eye,” she says.

“We will do fewer films, we will not be that couple.”

It was Mariane’s plight as a mother-tobe, she says, that really touched her. “I had just been through pregnancy and I was highly aware of how beautiful that time should be for a woman.

I remember so clearly the moment of giving birth and looking at Brad and the love in that room and the hope for the future.

For her to lose all that and have to suffer as much as she did and then to have no self-pity is just extraordinary.

I met a great friend during this film and she and her little boy continue to teach me about the world.”

Adding to the scepticism, there has been outrage from black groups in America that Jolie should play Mariane, who is of mixed Afro-Cuban and Dutch race.

Allegedly, the actress wore make-up to darken her skin - this has not been confirmed - and the film has been cited as an example of Hollywood discriminating against black actresses and accused of obscuring the Pearls’ interracial marriage.

She’s clearly aware of the potential criticism, and those regarding Pitt’s involvement, too (he has also helped produce Martin Scorsese’s The Departed and the forthcoming adaptation of The Time Traveler’s Wife, through Plan B, the film company he set up, originally with Jennifer Aniston).

“I was very nervous about this film
because having your partner producing can sound like a good idea but can also make the pressure much harder.

To do right by him - and by Mariane - became a pressure that I lost sleep over.”

In the event, Jolie’s performance satisfied Mariane Pearl herself and Jolie’s authentic rawness in the part goes some way to dismissing the idea that the film is her vanity project.

Sporting a wig of short black curls, a fluid French accent and - five months after giving birth herself - a pregnancy bump, she adapted well to Winterbottom’s fast hand-held film-making style, already seen to such powerful effect in Road to Guantanamo and In This World.

She is cool and collected throughout, which makes her shrieks at the news of Danny’s death all the more heartbreaking.

Jolie’s howls of despair alone in the bedroom morph in the next scene into her howls of pain in the delivery room of a hospital where she gives birth to her son, Adam.

“I couldn’t get my head round how to play the scene,” she recalls.

“I felt it would be indecent to ask Mariane to tell me exactly how she received the news or how she cried.

We all felt horribly sad the night we filmed it.

A man was killed in such a brutal way and this little boy we had all met on the set had lost his dad. So those sounds sort of happened organically.”

She needed a bit more help with the birthing scene, she explains.

Like most Hollywood mothers, Jolie had a Caesarian when she gave birth to her daughter, Shiloh, a year ago last May.

“Michael [the director] had to try to explain labour to me because he was with his wife when she had children.

It was very funny having a bunch of men explaining how to scream at the top of my lungs in a quiet floor of a real hospital in India.

We were all screaming back and forth at each other - it was bizarre.”

It has been an emotional 12 months for Jolie, however you look at it.

The death of her mother, Micheline Bertrand, from cancer earlier this year left her distraught.

Bertrand and Jolie’s father, the actor Jon Voight, separated when she was one, and Jolie and her brother James Haven were brought up by her mother.

She attributes her worryingly thin figure to the trauma she has gone through.

“Someone saying to me that I’m thin is not a compliment,” she says.

“I’ve always been lean and this year I lost my mom and I’ve gone through a lot.

I have four kids and I finished breastfeeding - it’s been hard to get my nutrition back on track.

Instead of people saying I look like a person dealing with something emotionally, they assume it’s because I want to fit into skinny jeans.”

Her mother was clearly an inspiration.

“Both my parents were very focused on charity and I was always raised by my mom to see the joy she had in doing things for others,” she says, as if to stress that her benevolent globe-trotting is a natural continuation of her own upbringing, rather than a way of assuaging Hollywood guilt or drawing attention to herself.

Even through the period of her mother’s illness, Jolie remained estranged from her father and the two haven’t been in contact since 2002 when Voight said on US television that he wanted her to “get help” for “serious mental problems”.

“I am hoping my relationship with my father will be more private in future,” Jolie says.

“At the end of the day, we both wish the best for each other and we’ll try to start communicating in some way.”

Acting was always in Jolie’s blood.

Voight, of course, was a major film star when she was born, Bertrand was also an actress and Jolie’s brother, two years her senior, studied film-making.

She began studying acting at the age of 11 at the famous Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York, having made her film debut at the age of five in the 1980 comedy Lookin’ to Get Out, with her father.

Her teen years were spent acting in music videos and modelling, but she returned to the big screen in the long forgotten Cyborg II: Glass Shadows when she was 18 in 1993, moving on to cyberthriller Hackers (1995) with young British actor Jonny Lee Miller - and a brief marriage to him from 1996 to 1999.

Her career took off in the late Nineties with roles in small films such as Foxfire and Playing By Heart, and two notable TV performances in George Wallace and Gia for which she won back-to-back Golden Globes.

By 1999, when she won an Oscar for Girl, Interrupted, Jolie was a tabloid legend, making headlines for her unpredictable behaviour, penchant for tattoos and revelations about her bisexuality-Her marriage to the equally eccentric-Billy Bob Thornton in 2000 sealed her fate as a media icon, not exactly quelled by the fact that the two carried vials of one another’s blood around their necks.

The couple separated in 2002, and Jolie was by then starring in major blockbusters like Gone in 60 Seconds and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, which established her arguably as the first female action star.

Not that all the films were hits. She racked up her fair share of duds: Original Sin, Beyond Borders, Life Or Something Like It and Alexander.

After shooting Tomb Raider in Cambodia, Jolie made trips to the global hotspots of Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Pakistan, and was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

In 2002, she adopted a seven-month-old Cambodian orphan whom she named Maddox.

Then in 2004, she stepped in for Nicole Kidman in the action thriller Mr and Mrs Smith and met Brad Pitt.

The romance between the two was downplayed while Pitt extricated himself from his marriage to Aennifer Aniston. Sympathies at the time lay with Aniston, and Jolie had to fend off accusations of being a husband-stealer-Angelina, man-eater” ran one headline.

The pair’s bond soon became obvious and Pitt started accompanying Jolie on her missions to Third World countries.

They adopted Zahara from an Ethiopian orphanage in 2005, had their biological child, Shiloh, last year, before earlier this year adopting a three-year-old Vietnamese orphan whom they named Pax.

“Pax is a great kid,” she says.

“When we first met him, we thought he was really shy and quiet but after two days at home we’ve discovered that he is one of the loudest members of the family.”

Jolie loves talking about her children and their backgrounds and encourages them to remain loyal to their origins (Pax and Maddox are both regularly visited by Vietnamese and Cambodian women to keep up their native languages-She says that Pitt’s parents have been very welcoming of all the children.

“When I first met them, I came in with two adopted children from other countries and I didn’t know how they were going to be. But they are equally loving with them.”

So how many more are the Jolie-Pitts planning to adopt?

“There are certain kids on the periphery that we want to help through school, whose lives we are starting to be involved in as well,” she says.

“In our home it is all about how much we balance making sure that everybody has individual time, and right now four of them have very special daily individual time.

We never want to have so many kids that we can’t do that.”

In the meantime, Jolie hasn’t stopped working on movies.

After A Mighty Heart, she will appear in the action-adventure Wanted opposite James McAvoy and Morgan Freeman, which she completed this summer; as the voice of the Queen of the Darkness in animated fantasy Beowulf; and under the direction of Clint Eastwood in The Changeling, the true story of a mother whose son was kidnapped in 1920s Los Angeles.

“I take films very seriously,” she insists.

“I love being able to tell a good story or just to entertain, and I don’t look down upon it.

It’s just that at the end of the day, when I die, I feel that the more significant contribution to have made would be to save a life or change a law that’s going to affect people and their children and their country and their rights in the future.

“I want to raise children who will be good people and be a positive influence in this world.

Everything else I have been able to do in my life through entertainment has certainly helped facilitate the other.

I do love being an artist but it’s not the core of who I am as a human being.

I would say being a mother comes first.”

The future doesn’t look so bad for the rainbow brood.

LOS ANGELES, June 14 — The pen is mightier than the sword, they say. But not, apparently, when celebrity gossip is part of the equation. Then the pen has to deal with a lawyer.

The international celebrity do-gooder Angelina Jolie found herself in a strange situation this week when she insisted that journalists at the premiere of her new movie about a murdered journalist — a screening that was in itself an event on behalf of persecuted journalists — sign an agreement limiting their questions and their use of her answers.

The agreement, while not unprecedented in Hollywood, did not go down well with the journalists. Ms. Jolie was granting interviews regarding her new film, “A Mighty Heart,” in which she plays Mariane Pearl, the wife of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal correspondent who was murdered by Islamic extremists in Pakistan. The film will be released by Paramount Vantage on June 22.

The movie premiere on Wednesday night at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York was a benefit for Reporters Without Borders, the Paris-based nonprofit organization that champions press freedom around the world.

Reporters hoping to interview Ms. Jolie were asked to sign a document forbidding them to ask her about her personal relationships. The agreement went on: “The interview may only be used to promote the Picture. In no event may Interviewer or Media Outlet be entitled to run all or any portion of the interview in connection with any other story.” And, “the interview will not be used in a manner that is disparaging, demeaning or derogatory to Ms. Jolie.”

Most of the media outlets, including The Associated Press, declined to sign, Paramount said.

Ms. Jolie’s lawyer, Robert Offer, said that the statement was the fault of a “bone-headed, overzealous lawyer” — meaning himself — and that his client was unaware of the move. “This was my creating something to protect her from the press’s talking about personal matters, a document that would limit discussion to the film,” he said. “But it was drafted overly broadly. It was well intended, but I understand how it was received.”

Ms. Jolie herself declined to comment.

Still, this wasn’t the first time such an agreement was used. Mr. Offer said journalists were asked to sign a similar agreement around the release of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” when Ms. Jolie and her co-star Brad Pitt caused a media firestorm over their apparent affair and the collapse of Mr. Pitt’s marriage to Jennifer Aniston.

At the time, Mr. Offer said, journalists signed the agreement.

Ms. Jolie’s manager, Geyer Kosinski, said the new document was meant to “guide” journalists, not control them, because Ms. Jolie has a tendency to speak frankly. “She is an incredibly candid, honest person, who is undeterred herself in answering questions,” he said. “Our collective intention was to protect her.”

A spokeswoman for Paramount Vantage denied an accusation on the Foxnews.com Web site that Ms. Jolie had banned Fox from the red carpet at the premiere, and that it was given a spot only after the studio intervened. “It was an omission,” the spokeswoman said, “an honest mistake.”

Jolie took a radiant turn down the Ziegfeld’s red carpet in the little black dress, purchased for a song at Los Angeles vintage boutique Wasteland. Jolie paired the stylish steal with $800 Christian Louboutin open-toed crystal-heel pumps.

“I had a friend of mine go in and look for baby clothes,” Angelina told “Access Hollywood” of the Melrose Ave. treasure hunt. Her friend found the dress. It fit perfectly and the rest is red carpet history.

One of the biggest stars on the planet, Jolie need only ask and a $30,000 dress from any of the world’s fanciest designers is hers for the wearing. But the outré actress has made a career out of breaking all the rules. This week, she bucked the celebrity couture trend and looked great doing it.

Not since Sharon Stone mixed a white shirt from the Gap and floor-length ball skirt at the Oscars in 1996 has there been such a frugal fervor (the L.A. shop that sold the dress reported phone call fatigue yesterday after news broke about its high-profile sale).

Hey dina #1 sorry but bdj can’t get that copyrighted. One of my great-uncles used to say that all the time when we would ask him what he was eating. He was a military man and back in those days they all came home with the most unlikely sayings! I’m dating myself but this was over 50 years ago! My oldest granddaughter has got to be the “greediest” (sp?) child ever and she loves to come over to my house and sit in the kitchen with me and every couple of hours she asked, “Grandma what are we going to eat?” and I very lovingly reply “Sh-t on a stick”. Horrible right. She just goes into one of her giggling fits and thinks that Grandma is the coolest and funniest of all time. ;) But seriously, the girl is like a swarm of locust and will eat you out of house and home!

Observations on “The Assassination of Jesse James”

It’s a long review so I’m going to include just excerpts:

Part I
It would be unfair, as someone who proclaims himself to be a professional movie critic, to review an unfinished movie, especially being aware the cut I saw was one at least three being tested, and from all indication the shortest of the various cuts. Thus, I offer these comments about a film that had been riding high on my radar since it was first announced, and one that, even in this possibly truncated version (if one can indeed call a 140 minute film “truncated”), will likely be atop my personal list of The Best Films of the Year when it is released.

Part II
The name above the title might belong to Brad Pitt, and he does turn in the best performance of his career since “12 Monkeys,” but this is not his film. Remember, the full title of the film includes a second character, and it is Casey Affleck, as Robert Ford, who owns the screen by the time the film is over. His performance is so exceptional and so finely nuanced, many will start to think of Ben second when they think of an acting Affleck. While flashes of brilliance have been seen in Casey’s performances to date, nothing will prepare you for the powerhouse tour-de-force he gives here. Far too long, he’s been hindered with the “Ben’s brother” mark, and its about time he had the chance to smash that discourteous title. We have yet to see Ben pull of this kind of layered, nuanced performance. There are also exceptional performances from Sam Rockwell, Sam Shepard (in an all-too-brief appearance as Frank James), Paul Schneider and Mary-Louise Parker as Jesse’s wife Zerelda, practically the only female in the film.

Part III
”The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” doesn’t try to reinvent the western, so much as bring back to the same kind of timelessness which have made “The Searchers” or “The Wild Bunch” or the westerns of Clint Eastwood favorites for generations. Twenty years on, “Young Guns” feels like even more like the tired ‘80s movie we knew it was when it was first released. Twenty years from now, this film will not be a victim of its time. It will be still be watched and benefit from the attempt to not chase what is hip or hot today.

Part IV
No matter what shape the final film takes, I suspect it will be the best film the genre has seen since the days of Leone and Peckinpah. Yes, “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” is better than “Unforgiven.” Better than “Dances with Wolves.” Better than “Silverado” or “Wyatt Earp” or any other Western in the past thirty years. I cannot wait to see it again for the first time.

The Western is back. Don’t blow it again, Hollywood.

I know. When I finished watching the LK interview the first thing I said is she’s pregnant. That’s good do it now and get it over with.

In her interviews she says I and my ALOT, where is ours, us and we?

People magazine finally did run something about this, buried in a story about Angelina Jolie’s appearance on the Daily Show under a headline about how she wants “14 kids.”

“‘There was a memo that went out to ask people if they would sign it that said, ‘Don’t get into personal questions, focus on the movie,’ and things like that,’ Jolie explained. ‘It was from my representative trying to be protective of me, but it was excessive and I wouldn’t have put it out there.’

That’s right, Angelina, pass the buck. The lies, manipulation, hypocrisy and control of this woman are staggering. She’s been doing this for years. It’s well documented. She claims she doesn’t have a “representative” and then magically conjures one up when it suits her needs. Not to mention that she is in absolute control of everything that has anything to do with Angelina Jolie. And now her poor lawyer has taken a hit for her. I wonder how much she’ll pay him off before she lets him go. His career is obviously over.

Power corrupts, Angelina ….

Wow JJ another thread. It was really nice of Angie to clear up all the loose ends that are going around just so people can attack her again. She is a smart and talented person and a great humanitarian. Go Angie!

As for Angie being preggers right now, well guys, I’m skeptical. She has said they need to just catch up to the ones they have right now and get them more together, and too, she says she knows her body needs to be built up and strong again…I can’t see her trying to get pregnant when she doesn’t see herself as being as healthy as she could possibly be, I think she will wait until she is more rested and has gained some weight.

I agree. She said they intended to wait until the kids were a bit older before adding to the family either by birth or by adoption. I hope they wait at least another year, preferably two. Pax needs time to get comfortable with his new country and his new language.
