Angelina captured hearts of New York women Wednesday night.

With one frugal frock - a $26 silk velvet vintage ’40s-style wrap dress - the superstar, in town for the premiere of “A Mighty Heart,” won over the harshest critics in the country: style-savvy New York women.

Because if there’s anything bargain-loving Big Apple girls love, it’s putting together a cheap-chic outfit that would fool the pants off the paparazzi.

Jolie took a radiant turn down the Ziegfeld’s red carpet in the little black dress, purchased for a song at Los Angeles vintage boutique Wasteland. Jolie paired the stylish steal with $800 Christian Louboutin open-toed crystal-heel pumps.

“I had a friend of mine go in and look for baby clothes,” Angelina told “Access Hollywood” of the Melrose Ave. treasure hunt. Her friend found the dress. It fit perfectly and the rest is red carpet history.

One of the biggest stars on the planet, Jolie need only ask and a $30,000 dress from any of the world’s fanciest designers is hers for the wearing. But the outré actress has made a career out of breaking all the rules. This week, she bucked the celebrity couture trend and looked great doing it.

Not since Sharon Stone mixed a white shirt from the Gap and floor-length ball skirt at the Oscars in 1996 has there been such a frugal fervor (the L.A. shop that sold the dress reported phone call fatigue yesterday after news broke about its high-profile sale).

Love Jon Stewart, she was kind of flirting with him .. she seemed a bit smittened by him. Dont get me wrong, I would be too.

When she laughs real hard that amazing bulging vein pops from her forehead, make sense why she rarely laughs and is always so serious. But lets face Jon rocks and can make anyone laugh, even ice princess. She was probably more honest in that interview then she has been in a long time, she looked comfortable.

Angie and Jon are friends from way back, and their exchanges were very genuine and sincere. Loved the intro bit he did about repopulating the Earth and having Angie kiss his face.

That Bull Poo Fox story from yesterday was a whole lot of nothing, and they manufactured most of what they said, even the part about USA Today. Fox Network is a joke, and so is E!. Can’t stand either channel, never watch them. Angie’s lawyer has come out and said he worded it too strongly, but it was optional, not mandatory. Somebody was wailing on the last thread about how she doesn’t have an agent or a publicist and she herself drew up the document. What? hahaha!! Just because she doesn’t have an agent or a publicist does not mean she doesn’t have “people” that work for her such as lawyers, advisors and a personal assistant. I am glad Jon asked about it, it’s cleared up, and the whiners and weiners can now shut up about it.

That bodyguard looks like he will kick the crap out of someone if they touch Angie. He looks scarier then Mickey! Something I thought was impossible. I’m glad she’s well protected.

Angie is well-read and speaks with ease on many topics of which most Americans know nothing, let alone could converse about.

There’s a few folks here complaining who need to go read a book and enlighten themselves.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt already have four young children – but they may not be planning to stop there.

On Thursday’s Daily Show, Jon Stewart wondered how many kids Jolie wanted in all, asking: “How high we going, you think?”

Replied Jolie: “It fluctuates between seven and 13 or 14.” The audience howled and Jolie laughed, and Stewart said, “Wow, I’ll tell you this: I admire that, because two is kicking my ass.”

Jolie quipped: “Yeah, I understand that. Four is kind of kicking our ass, but we kind of feel like, ‘Damn it, we’re up for the challenge!’ ”

The actress, 32, has been in New York City promoting her and Pitt’s new movie A Mighty Heart, which premiered Wednesday.

Stewart asked Jolie about a FOX News story claiming that journalists at a junket on Wednesday had been asked to sign a contract before talking to her requiring that they not ask about her personal life – a common request at press events.

“There was a memo that went out to ask people if they would sign it that said, ‘Don’t get into personal questions, focus on the movie,’ and things like that,” Jolie explained. “It was from my representative trying to be protective of me, but it was excessive and I wouldn’t have put it out there.”

On Thursday, Jolie’s lawyer, Robert Offer, issued a mea culpa, telling The New York Times the document was the fault of a “bone-headed, overzealous lawyer” – himself – and that Jolie hadn’t been aware of it.

“This was my creating something to protect her from the press’s talking about personal matters, a document that would limit discussion to the film,” he said. “But it was drafted overly broadly. It was well intended, but I understand how it was received.”

Also on Thursday, Jolie appeared on CNN’s Larry King Live, where she described raising the latest addition to her family, 3-year-old Pax Thien, whom she adopted from Vietnam in March (he joined Maddox, 5; Zahara, 2; and Shiloh, 1). “He’s wild. He’s beautiful and wild,” she said.

“He had no freedoms for three and a half years. … He lived in the same place on the same cot along with 20 other cots and did things at the exact same time and had no chance to have an opinion himself or do – he lived a very structured life. But he’s also suddenly very free.”

She explained that her new son’s name was suggested by her own mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand, before her death from ovarian cancer in January. “My mom wrote a list of names when we were going to have Shiloh,” said Jolie. “One of the names that she suggested was Pax because it meant peace. [But] he’s anything but at the moment.”

LOS ANGELES, June 14 — The pen is mightier than the sword, they say. But not, apparently, when celebrity gossip is part of the equation. Then the pen has to deal with a lawyer.

The international celebrity do-gooder Angelina Jolie found herself in a strange situation this week when she insisted that journalists at the premiere of her new movie about a murdered journalist — a screening that was in itself an event on behalf of persecuted journalists — sign an agreement limiting their questions and their use of her answers.

The agreement, while not unprecedented in Hollywood, did not go down well with the journalists. Ms. Jolie was granting interviews regarding her new film, “A Mighty Heart,” in which she plays Mariane Pearl, the wife of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal correspondent who was murdered by Islamic extremists in Pakistan. The film will be released by Paramount Vantage on June 22.

The movie premiere on Wednesday night at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York was a benefit for Reporters Without Borders, the Paris-based nonprofit organization that champions press freedom around the world.

Reporters hoping to interview Ms. Jolie were asked to sign a document forbidding them to ask her about her personal relationships. The agreement went on: “The interview may only be used to promote the Picture. In no event may Interviewer or Media Outlet be entitled to run all or any portion of the interview in connection with any other story.” And, “the interview will not be used in a manner that is disparaging, demeaning or derogatory to Ms. Jolie.”

Most of the media outlets, including The Associated Press, declined to sign, Paramount said.

Ms. Jolie’s lawyer, Robert Offer, said that the statement was the fault of a “bone-headed, overzealous lawyer” — meaning himself — and that his client was unaware of the move. “This was my creating something to protect her from the press’s talking about personal matters, a document that would limit discussion to the film,” he said. “But it was drafted overly broadly. It was well intended, but I understand how it was received.”

Ms. Jolie herself declined to comment.

Still, this wasn’t the first time such an agreement was used. Mr. Offer said journalists were asked to sign a similar agreement around the release of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” when Ms. Jolie and her co-star Brad Pitt caused a media firestorm over their apparent affair and the collapse of Mr. Pitt’s marriage to Jennifer Aniston.

At the time, Mr. Offer said, journalists signed the agreement.

Ms. Jolie’s manager, Geyer Kosinski, said the new document was meant to “guide” journalists, not control them, because Ms. Jolie has a tendency to speak frankly. “She is an incredibly candid, honest person, who is undeterred herself in answering questions,” he said. “Our collective intention was to protect her.”

A spokeswoman for Paramount Vantage denied an accusation on the Foxnews.com Web site that Ms. Jolie had banned Fox from the red carpet at the premiere, and that it was given a spot only after the studio intervened. “It was an omission,” the spokeswoman said, “an honest mistake.”

Whoa. Don’t bring up Jennifer. The girl has done good for herself; so, let’s not judge her. Let’s leave the past where it should be. Otherwise, this is what helps breed animosity here. Let’s just focus on Angelina. She was great in both interviews. Beautifully candid as always. I’m also glad that she addressed her weight loss during the press conference. It’s much easier to say, “She’s too thin” than remember what she had gone through this year. I hope she appears more on TDS. Jon is so funny, and that definitely makes him sexy.

I really think her mother dying and 4 children is enough. I really don’t think the tabloid stuff factors in. The death of a parent, especially for all purposes a single parent is a a devastating thing. Angie and her mother seemed to have a special bond. She is grieving, I think it is as simple as that.

Besides if she didn’t let the tabloids get to her that first year they shouldn’t get to her now. They were brutal that first year.

The funny thing is, when somebody says, you’re thin, a person says, thank you. To me actually, when somebody says I’m thin, it is not a compliment. It’s not something I want to be. I have always been lean.

This year, I lost my mom. I’ve gone through a lot. I have four kids. I just finished breast-feeding. It’s been hard to get my nutrition back on track and learn about my body after birth. I am doing the best I can. The thing that’s disturbing is that instead of somebody saying, oh, this looks like somebody who is dealing with something from emotions—it’s, do they want to fit into skinny jeans? I don’t encourage young girls to be too thin. I do want people to understand that I am just trying to work through a very difficult year.

Just read an article about Dominic Loki Maurice, the boy who at age 7, escaped the Sudan on foot, walking to Kenya. On Tuesday, May 12th, he passed his U.S. citizenship test. He can not visit his mother and three sisters who have lived in a U.N. refeugee camp.

Next week, the Michigan Darfur Coalition, is sponsoring the Michigan premiere of “God Grew Tired of Us”. I am calling to see if I can get tickets, as Dominic will be there to answer questions.

Besane, that comment about “hiding behind each other” brought Brad’s ex to my mind as well. Oh, to be a fly on the wall to know what Brad has told Angie about Miss Orange! Angie has the scoop and knows just how miserable Brad was having to always prop up the poor, helpless little sit-com actress sucking him dry with her self-centeredness. In my life, being a fan of AJ has brought so much information to the forefront on subjects that I may not have been familiar with, and that is something to be said for her influence on people.

I’ll to get the link to this article, as it is heartwarming. He is living in East Lansing, Michigan (home of Michigan State University) in an apartment with the other four “lost boys”.

Angelina has shown people alot of good can come out of reaching beyond our own borders.

Just ask Dominic Loki Maurice, who is quoted, “I am lucky in some ways, I am still living and many are not”.

I just read the interview & plan to order the dvd of the interview, that was a nice one. As always she is very honest. She is always proud to talk about her family, her life with Brad. She is radiant & smart. What a very lovely person & of course her love too (Brad). They really deserves each other, they are both passionate about the people in poor countries & I have great respect to both of them. Hope to see more news about them. This movie AMH will be a contender for Oscar, best actress & best movie. Iam looking forward to see the movie next week.

I watched that on the other thread, and you know, I think that might not have been such a bad move on Angie’s part… letting a pappie see what it’s like from her perspective. Even he said it was quite eye-opening for him to have cameras pushed in his face and to be chased. HA! Also, he seemed to feel she was genuine in her inquiries about his side of it, and her thankfulness of their keeping their distance. Overall, a win-win for them both. He got a ride and a dose of his own medicine, and she got to face one of her chasers head on. I think this guy is now an Anige fan for life!

The season has traditionally been unreceptive to heavy fare, but the makers of the post-9/11 drama ‘A Mighty Heart’ are betting they’ll find an audience.

Adult moviegoers may be craving a serious drama after overdosing on a steady diet of mindless sequels that has driven this year’s box-office sales.

But whether they’ll rush out to see a sobering, ripped-from-the-headlines story set in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks remains an open question for the distributor of next Friday’s release “A Mighty Heart.”

Paramount Vantage is taking a risk releasing its emotionally charged movie about slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl just as audiences are poised for another round of escapist fare that includes “Transformers” and sequels to “Fantastic Four” and “Die Hard.”

People haven’t exactly lined up for films with themes related to 9/11. They gave cool receptions to last year’s “United 93″ and “Reign Over Me,” about a man devastated by the loss of his family in the attacks. “World Trade Center,” released last summer by Vantage’s big-sister studio, Paramount Pictures, fared better but was not a runaway hit.

“Serious movies in the summer can be problematic,” said Jeff Blake, head of worldwide marketing and distribution for Sony Pictures, which has “Spider-Man 3″ in theaters. “People do seem to be in the mood for something lighter.”

Unlike “Spider-Man,” which cost nearly $300 million to produce, “A Mighty Heart” doesn’t have to be a blockbuster to turn a profit. It was made for just $16 million.

Executives at Paramount Vantage, the specialty label of the Melrose Avenue studio, are hoping the movie will be the perfect antidote to the fluff in the marketplace, banking on the counterprogramming strategy of serving up sophisticated fare to upscale, adult audiences when they are starved for something meaty.

“There are a lot of fast-food blockbusters out there and this is a powerful story,” Vantage President John Lesher said. “Our hope is that this is the first Oscar movie of the year.”

Typically, studios release what they consider their most promising Oscar contenders in the fall, when audiences are more receptive to sophisticated films. But “A Mighty Heart” could have been lost amid an onslaught of serious dramas this fall that include Vantage’s highly anticipated release “The Kite Runner,” based on the bestselling novel.

“There’s an advantage to being ahead of the pack,” said Lesher, who successfully bucked convention last year by releasing Al Gore’s global warming documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” over the Memorial Day weekend.

Another counterprogramming triumph was the 2005 summer drama “Crash,” which won the Oscar for best picture.

However, sometimes the strategy doesn’t work. That same summer, moviegoers largely overlooked “Cinderella Man,” which many considered a downer, and flocked to “Madagascar” and the latest “Star Wars” installment

“We’re cautiously optimistic about the idea of going in the summer,” Lesher said.

Lesher and his co-president, Nick Meyer, said they also wanted to capitalize on the strong buzz and reviews that the film and its star, Angelina Jolie, got at last month’s Cannes International Film Festival.

There has already been talk in Hollywood about a likely Oscar nomination for Jolie’s riveting portrayal of widow Mariane Pearl, the movie’s central character.

The film, directed by Michael Winterbottom and featuring Dan Futterman as Daniel Pearl, is based on Mariane Pearl’s memoir about the kidnapping and frantic, five-week search for her husband, who was abducted and murdered in January 2002 by extremists in Karachi, Pakistan, while chasing a story that linked foiled shoe bomber Richard Reid to Al Qaeda.

Despite the story’s post-Sept. 11 backdrop and a photo of the burning Twin Towers on the film’s website, Lesher insists that the movie is about Mariane Pearl’s strength and courage in dealing with the pain without “going to a place of hate.”

“I would not define it as a ‘9/11 movie,’ ” he said.

The story is told from the point of view of Mariane Pearl, herself a journalist, who was six months pregnant when she and an international cadre of friends, investigators and others, housed under the same roof in Karachi, united to search for her husband.

“This horrific event that was meant to destroy and separate people proved quite the opposite,” said Brad Pitt, whose passion for the project as its producer made the movie happen. “The quest for Danny brought together Muslims, a Jew, a Buddhist and Christians.” Pitt, who is Jolie’s boyfriend, also noted that the production itself was similar in that it had an international cast and crew.

It was Mariane Pearl’s depth of character that inspired Pitt to aggressively pursue the movie rights to her 2003 memoir, “A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband Danny Pearl.” He was moved by having seen her first interview with CNN when the search for her husband was underway.

“There was something about her strength,” Pitt said. “She was a fighter and was not cut down by this.”

Another theme that Pitt said “rang loudly” for him was the Pearls’ commitment to “good journalism and an unbiased telling of the facts.”

Mariane Pearl was not available for comment, but others recall that she initially had no interest in selling the movie rights to her book. ICM’s Ron Bernstein, who brokers film-rights deals, recalled that he was originally instructed by his colleagues at the agency who were representing her to “do nothing” with regards to a movie sale.

But when Publishers Weekly ran a rave review of the memoir, Bernstein said, Hollywood came calling. Realizing a movie could be a lasting legacy for her husband, Pearl acquiesced and agreed to meet with producers.

It took only one meeting with Pitt to get Pearl’s blessing. Pitt recalled sitting on the back porch of his Los Angeles house with Pearl, drinking coffee and eating croissants as they discussed his vision for translating her book into a movie.

“We talked about the minefields of turning a real-life story into a film and traps we would watch for,” Pitt said. “It could so easily be sentimentalized.”

Pitt had first read the book in galley form when it was sent to his Plan B production company.

Warner Bros., where Plan B was then based, outbid rivals Paramount and Universal Pictures for the rights. But after bankrolling the development of the script and a location scout in Pakistan, Warner passed on making the movie.

Kevin McCormick, executive vice president of production at Warner, said that although the studio was “very aggressive in the beginning stages, frankly, for us they were moving at a much faster pace than we were.”

When Warner balked, Pitt called Brad Grey, his onetime partner in Plan B, who had to sell his stake in the company when he became chairman of Paramount. By then, Plan B had relocated to Paramount.

“Brad called me and said, ‘Warner Bros. is going to let it go,’ and I said, ‘Let’s do it,’ ” Grey said. “For us, when you add up this group of artists and this moving story at this price, it was a no-brainer.”

It would also turn out to be a no-brainer for Lesher, who had been Winterbottom’s agent before being hired to head Vantage in 2005. In May last year, in a key meeting in Namibia, the British director behind “The Road to Guantanamo” and the producers met with Pearl, Jolie and Pitt. “For three days, we talked through the book and script,” Winterbottom said. “I wanted to shape the film to match the book.”

Both he and Pitt were adamant that the movie should stay true to the real events and the people involved. Such persistence, Pitt said, came from “the responsibility I felt being the protector of the story.”

One of the most trying moments for the filmmakers came once the movie was in the can. “It’s always difficult whenever you show a film to people about their own life,” Winterbottom said, referring to Mariane Pearl and Daniel Pearl’s parents, who watched the movie on DVD.

Just before the film debuted at Cannes, Winterbottom’s producing partner, Andrew Eaton, flew to Paris and watched the film with Mariane Pearl. Pitt’s producing partner, Dede Gardner, hand-delivered a copy to Daniel’s parents, Ruth and Judea Pearl.

Although the Pearls, who live in Encino, declined a phone interview request, they responded to e-mailed questions. “We didn’t see it as a movie; for us it meant reliving the most painful period of our life. Our hope is that viewers will come away from ‘A Mighty Heart’ inspired to join us in fighting the hatred that took Danny’s life.”

I was just watching the premiers photos for Oceans 11 & 12. I noticed that pictures of X have been deleted/removed. Brad is very powerful in a quiet way. He does not have to stand on a roof top to yell that he has moved on but his actions sure do speak louder than any words.

There are the Oceans 13 premier pictures and of course Angie is on them. It would be interesting to see other premiers they attended together and see if they have also been done with.

People magazine finally did run something about this, buried in a story about Angelina Jolie’s appearance on the Daily Show under a headline about how she wants “14 kids.”

“‘There was a memo that went out to ask people if they would sign it that said, ‘Don’t get into personal questions, focus on the movie,’ and things like that,’ Jolie explained. ‘It was from my representative trying to be protective of me, but it was excessive and I wouldn’t have put it out there.’

That’s right, Angelina, pass the buck. The lies, manipulation, hypocrisy and control of this woman are staggering. She’s been doing this for years. It’s well documented. She claims she doesn’t have a “representative” and then magically conjures one up when it suits her needs. I am american, my parents are from pakistan and i am frustrated with the idea that the only thing that is representative of an entire country, and entire religion (which by the way is so poorly misrepresented) is a bhurka? Which so happens to be a modest form of dress that majority of women, educated, independent wear as a sign of being muslim and being modest, it does not denote extremism. Oppression of women comes in all forms, in ALL cultures. For every women who may wear a dress based on force, I know 50 that do it based on self-will.
Extremism is a media coined term to define a person that claims to be of muslim faith comitting acts that go outside acts of humanity. That DOES NOT represent a MUSLIM.
And neither Jolie of Jon stewart seemed to defend this very simple point. Someone who practices the tenants of their faith based on peaceful, intelligent process is not an extremist.
They are pious. The confusion of these two notions is why we have so much hatred and stereotypes against something that is NOT inherently wrong, just INHERENTLY DIFFERENT. As educated as some become, most can’t step outside the box, as hard as they try and just perpetuate these misconceptions.

From an “American” viewpoint, a bhurka represents holding women down. That being said, however, I don’t think Jon was asking it in that way. He was asking if she wore the traditional dress of an area she was in. He was viewing it as a garment that hides a woman’s body/sexuality. Angie is somewhat known as a sexual being, so hiding her sexuality would be something to make a *joke* about. If she’d gone to a convent, he would have asked if she wore a habit. Get it?

To those of you that complimented Brad on looking happier, more confident and content since he met Angie. I totally agree. Angie is the total opposite of you know who, and maybe that was what he was looking for as he got older; someone with substance. My heart went out to him during that interview with Diane Sawyer when he cried about wanting kids. I honestly believe that if what’s her name wanted kids then he would have maybe said that they were working on having kids. Shortly after meeting Angie she got pregnant. That’s a clear sign to me that maybe what’s her name could have cared less about having any kids. When a person is happy it’s written all over their face. And he is definitely happy.
