While promoting a movie about the importance of a free press, Angelina Jolie’s camp apparently didn’t want the press to be quite so free.
That was the take-away, at least, from the star’s media-saturated twirl through Gotham last week for the preem of “A Mighty Heart,” in which Jolie plays the widow of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl.

While agreements have long been made in junket settings regarding the scope of interviews, especially to shield big stars, journos on a press day after the June 13 preem bristled at the tone of a detailed contract pushed by Jolie’s camp.

Those seeking to interview Jolie about the film had to agree not to ask personal questions or use the material “in a manner that is disparaging, demeaning, or derogatory to Ms. Jolie.” Violators could have their tape recorders confiscated and could even be sued, the agreement warned.

And then there was the tasty irony that the preem was co-hosted by Reporters Without Borders, a group that “defends journalists and media assistants imprisoned or persecuted for doing their job.”

Outlets like the AP and USA Today reportedly refused to sign.

Paramount Vantage, which is releasing the film, says Jolie was not aware of the language in the contract until June 14. Upon reading it, she raised objections to her lawyer, Robert Offer, who rescinded it and has since apologized.

A studio spokes-woman noted that the star has been “incredibly candid” during interviews for Esquire, Parade and Glamour and with TV’s Larry King and Jon Stewart, but faces 24/7 scrutiny from celebrity tabloids and paparazzi. Thus, the contract “is a byproduct of the kind of journalism she has to deal with.”

I agree with you. I know Brad is quiet but I can’t understand why he won’t just say something to defend her. I don’t think it was lust that made him fall for her but Maddox. Brad really wanted to be a father, and he used Angies affections for him to do it. I like them, and I know Angie is a BIG GIRL and handle herself but I would love for Brad to ATTEMPT to defend her. Because of the kids I pray for them to have a happy life together for many, many, many, many, years.

You are totally wrong. Brad was not involved with Angie because of Mad. That is the most stupid thing to do. Brad did not have much contact with Mad to be much involved during MMS filming. Brad started to be involved with Mad starting in 2005. Because Angie is all about children.

June 16, 2007 — ANGELINA Jolie is on a mission to fix her recent bad press and distract attention from headlines that make her sound like a hypocrite.

After FoxNews.com reported Thursday that Jolie tried to ban the Fox network from the red carpet of her new film, “A Mighty Heart,” and forced reporters to sign lengthy contracts before speaking with her, Jolie tried putting the blame for her overbearing behavior on her advisers.

The contracts - which reporters had to sign in order to snag a few sound bites from the much-publicized mother of four - stipulated the journos were not allowed to “ask Ms. Jolie any questions regarding her personal relationships.” They also insisted, “The interview may only be used to promote the picture . . . The interview will not be used in a manner that is disparaging, demeaning, or derogatory to Ms. Jolie.”

After the contract story broke, the star quickly went into damage control mode by talking openly about wanting more children and lending a hand to a photographer who was tailing her. She promoted her film on “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” Thursday night and denied that reporters were asked to sign any documents.

She told Stewart (who seemed free to ask about her personal life), “There was a memo that went out to ask people if they would sign it that said, ‘Don’t get into personal questions, focus on the movie,’ and things like that . . . It was from my representative trying to be protective . . . but it was excessive, and I wouldn’t have put it out there.”

Jolie also tried to turn the tables back to her saintly image yesterday by giving James Ambler, a paparazzo who works for Splash and regularly follows the Jolie tribe on his bike, a lift in her car after he got a flat tire.

The snapper said Jolie “was really interested” in the jobs of celebrity photographers.

“She was really impressed with what we do,” Ambler told Splash.

In “A Mighty Heart,” Jolie plays Marianne Pearl, the widow of kidnapped and beheaded journalist Daniel Pearl. The Wednesday night premiere was “meant to support” the organization Reporters Without Borders, which ironically “fights against censorship and laws that undermine press freedom.”

A rep for Jolie did not return calls.

Hours before the New York premiere of her film “A Mighty Heart,” Angelina unsuccessfully tried to have FOX News banned from the red carpet and get reporters who wanted to interview her to sign a consent form guaranteeing no personal questions, no future repurposing of the interview, and so on. This is a time-honored practice dating all the way back past “Eyes Wide Shut,” but predictably, to do this for a film about journalistic heroism — and one whose premiere benefited the non-profit advocacy group Reporters Without Borders — sent media types over the edge. Angelina may be the top ranked actress on this week’s Forbes Celebrity 100 (she’s #14 on the list), but when she told Larry she has “great empathy” for journalists, she sounded about as phony as a three-dollar bill.

Here comes the sob sisters, demanding that Brad publicly defend Angelina. It’s been my experience that public declarations is more about the ego of the one uttering it. For example, BBT. He threw around public proclamations about Angelina, but when it came to the times that mattered, the times that weren’t lit by camera lights, he wasn’t there for her or Maddox and in a moment of crass taste, he dissed Angelina in the most base manner.

You refuse to process the fact that he takes care of Angelina. He wasn’t working in a music studio or working on scenatics for a velcro wall; he is taking care of their kids; keeping an eye on her emotional health; he rallies his and her remaining family members around her whenever she needs it.

Examine yourselves, sobbers. It’s your pride that’s hurt. And quite frankly, you all also seems to suffer to the Norman Bates syndrome- mistaking yourselves for Angelina Jolie.

Some people are so stupid. Even if there is a backlash in the US (which i highly doubt), there won’t be one outside the US, which is where an international movie makes its profit as the market share is much more important than the domestic one.

Faux News is a joke outside the US and a parody of journalism with no credibility at all. It is even considered worst than that since the War on Terror. Jolie on the other hand is viewed as the cream of the crop of what America does best ALL OVER THE GLOBE. She is the best ambassador that US can get and one of the most respected and loved. She is the only young actress with an international appeal based on both her jobs as an actres and a UN GOODWILL ambassador.

Other actresses, models are UN goodwill ambassadors as well, even princesses but they don’t have her appeal and her power.
