Angelina Jolie - “Newsweek” Interview
Angelina Jolie opens up to Newsweek about her experience filming A Mighty Heart in India.
On her bodyguards calling “bloody Indians” and “bloody Muslims” at a Muslim school: “People advised me that this movie was politically dangerous. I thought maybe I shouldn’t touch this. Maybe it would do more harm than good.”
On going from being the most famous star in India to its most famous racist: “We’ve become so eager to accuse people of being racist, but I would rather they make up almost any other story—about me sleeping with someone, anything—but that. It’s not only a crazy accusation, but it’s the most insulting thing you could say about me, that I would employ someone who would be disrespectful to someone’s race or would harm a child. They take care of my kids.”
On the situation having gone too far: “People can just hate back and forth, and I understand my own country’s irresponsibility with our foreign policy sometimes, but can’t we please try to be open-minded, and see that there are some of us who are trying?”
On traveling being her saving grace: “Yeah, I did have my wild times. [laughs] When I was famous for being just an actress, my life felt very shallow. You’ve done nothing of any social relevance, and yet you have all these people interviewing you. You don’t even know what you’re talking about. You’re just trying to find yourself. [pauses] Traveling really did save me. I was just … happier. It was feeling that I was doing the right things with my life.”
On having more children: “We want to have as big a family as we can. Our only restriction is making sure we have time for everybody, and we’re finding that we have the ability to do that.” (Brad Pitt adds: “Yeaaahhh, we do things in extremes. But I’ve always embraced big changes, and this feels very natural. It’s just the most fun I’ve ever had.”)
On what matters to her the most: “People can question your choices, accuse you of things, but your real work and your integrity will [win] out. All that matters is if I build a strong family, if I’m able to do my advocacy work and if my children are happy.”

;)
Even after six years, Jolie is suspected of being a dilettante, a “celebrity tourist” to global crises. It’s a charge that irritates those closest to her. “What would she have to do to prove that she’s sincere?” says Pitt’s producing partner, Dede Gardner. “Should she give more money? More time? It’s a black-hole debate. When people judge anyone’s sincerity, I just think, ‘Oh, yeah? What are you doing?’ ”

WELL said. Couldn’t agree more.
WOW ANGELINA!!!
GREAT PICTURES….MANY ENDLESS THANKS JJ :)
I’m glad he was there, and added one of the best quotes to that interview, at least people will know from his own mouth that he agrees with having those children rather quickly, and that Angie is not forcing him to do anything he doesn’t want to do!!!!
Thank you JJ. Really good article.
A Mighty Heast opens June 22.
ANGIE IS REALLY WORKING HER WAY TO PLANT THE SEEDS TO EXIST HER “HOLLYWOOD LIFE” TO BE THE HUMANITARIAN SHE STRIVES TO BE…GO ANGIE GO!! :D

i hope the trolls aren’t going to spoil this. I guess is just wishing thinking.
Thanks Jared.
I enjoyed reading the Newsweek Article.
Rock on Angie!!!!
cool. More real news. This is what I’m talking about. This interview is good stuff.
Excusively from Newsweek and not from some rag.
Great interview.
Could someone please elaborate for me if this membership is lifelong or do they randomly pick every year? I just would like to know what Angie’s chances are of winning a nomination to say the least. ( not that it matters)

Thank you JJ for keeping us up to date!!! Great interview.
Thanks Jared. Can’t wait to get my copy in the mail.
It just boggles the mind that people can’t accept that a man would want a bunch of kids. Or maybe, it’s a head-scratcher to think of any man allowing any little ones to come between himself and the Promised Land.
I suppose that the concept of excellent fathering as an aphrodisiac could sink into some men’s heads, although that isn’t a foreign concept.
I can’t wait to see AMH…
I can’t wait to see this movie this weekend. I heard it is going to be in limited realse 1350 theaters nation wide.
The National Enquirer is reporting that….. “Angelina HATES the whole Ocean’s 13 - Rat Pack phenomenon - She can’t stand the boys gang thing. Which is why She’s NEVER LIKED GEORGE CLOONEY. She was always afraid that when Brad was in Las Vegas filming Ocean’s 13, Clooney was trying to lead him to astray”.

This was here first besides the news site and maybe fansites. Let’s see how fast this goes around the net.
Just Jared Rocks!
Thank You JJ for the new thread, great interview, love the Maddox and Angie part. I’m agree with the writer, that some people are just totally still in disbelief that someone like Angelina can have such a
“traditional” view on family and children. She sure does not follow any rules or forms. Good for her.

George is DISGUSTING!! And why is that BAMPZS cannot see that George is a BAD INFLUENCE in Brad??????
I hope Brad doesn’t hurt Angie because of George!!!

Now she will be known for is a homewrecker … poor thing.
Angelina is much better than george. Clooney is the one leaking all those quotes to the tabloids and Ted casablanca. He doesn\’t like angelina and has been very chatty about it (I\’m not talking about that stupid joke he made on cannes). Brad knows but ignores it.

I don’t think Angie really cares about Oscar.
Wth? George is cooler than Brad. I doubt Angelina hates him ..more like wishes she could have had him in the bed before Brad trapped her.
Have you seen some of the pix of George, brad, and Angelina from the O13 premiere in la? The look… major georgelina chemistry.

The Structure of AMPAS
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a professional honorary organization composed of over 6,500 filmmakers whose achievements have placed them at the top of their craft.
The purposes of the Academy are to advance the arts and sciences of motion pictures; foster cooperation among creative leaders for cultural, educational and technological progress; recognize outstanding achievements; cooperate on technical research and improvement of methods and equipment; provide a common forum and meeting ground for various film-related crafts; represent the viewpoint of actual creators of the motion picture; and foster educational activities between the professional community and the public.
Membership in the Academy is by invitation of the Board of Governors and is limited to those who have distinguished themselves in the arts and sciences of motion pictures. The criteria for admittance include: a body of work in motion pictures that reflects the high standards of the Academy, an achievement of unique distinction, or the making of an outstanding contribution to the film arts or sciences.
Members represent 15 general areas – actors, animators and short film makers, art directors and costume designers, cinematographers, composers and songwriters, documentary filmmakers, directors, executives, film editors, makeup artists and hairstylists, producers, public relations specialists, sound technicians, visual effects experts and writers.
A candidate for membership in the Academy is normally sponsored by at least two members of the branch for which the person may qualify. Each proposed member must first receive the favorable endorsement of the appropriate branch executive committee before his or her name is submitted to the Board of Governors for its approval. Individuals nominated for Academy Awards® who are not already members of the Academy are considered for membership without the need for sponsors.
The Board of Governors also may invite individuals to become members-at-large and associate members. Members-at-large are those engaged in motion picture production, but for whose craft there is no separate branch. They have all the privileges of branch membership except for representation on the Board. Associate members are those closely allied to the industry but not actively engaged in motion picture production. They are not represented on the Board and do not vote on Academy Awards

Haters are so ridiculous. Of course in THEIR WORLD, someone always has to not like someone.. there is always supposed hate going around.
Please…George has said many nice things about Angie.
Seriously, does hatred make people dumb or does being dumb cause you to hate easily?
Sigh….”WE” is a beautiful word is it not?
Thanks for the interview Jared.
Two points I wanted to bring up. In the Cinematical Interviews, Angelina said she didn’t do comedies because she didn’t think she is funny and so stays away from that. I hope she changes her mind. Personally, I would love to see her do a completely zany, funny character and just let loose.
Second, I was happy to read that Ed Norton was at the after party for the Premiere of A Mighty Heart. He was there for the “God Grew Tired of Us” premiere too. Seems like he sneaks in and doesn’t let the photographers catch him but we always read about him being at events with Brad and Angelina. I think it’s really sweet how Brad and Ed have managed to stay friends all these years. I know every one talks about George Clooney being friends with Brad, but I feel Brad and Ed have the more genuine friendshi.
Oh, and remember the Pen!s song??? LOL. I think those two (Ed and Brad) probably are closer than Brad and Clooney.
she’s awesome! it was never about her beauty for me. she has always been beautiful but it wasn’t after she joined the UN that i can’t take my eyes off of her. i admire her for what she does and i admire her for her tenacity to do good despite the never ending criticisms, makes it that much harder for her to fight for the causes she strongly believes in.
If what you say is true and Brad knows and ignores it, he is a bigger ass than I thought
***********************************
King of cool George does it all the time. He really thinks he is Hollywood favorite son. Brad is doing the right thing. Why get into a fight with george? not worth it.
anyone notice that Aniston’s agent had no comment about whether she was ever seriously going to play Marianne pearl. Yeah, he can comment on not having plastic surgery(yeah right) and whether or not she is dating a camera man..but cant be bothered to set the record straight about this! Of course that wouldnt be in her best interest, now would it?
I enjoyed the interview too.
My problem is that while Black actresses and other actresses of color are working under a disadvantage in HW, I resent the fact that some special interests would try to hijack this film, specifically the role of Mariane, without any qualifications except color.
It is entirely possible that some actresses of color contacted Mariane; and maybe, read the book. But if they didn’t earn her trust on an enterprise she was already leery about, then game over.

I think you are really sick. there is no way Angie will like George. George doesn’t like kids. only this, he is out of picture. and besides, Angie has the best man in the planet. Brad is the man of her dreams. get it.
“a soft news icon commanding respect in a hard news world”
This article was very insightful in explaining what is so different about Angelina, and why she’s such a “perfect storm” for the media.
I often make excuses (to myself) for my outright admiration of Brad and Angelina by saying they are socially conscious. But truthfully I’m a romantic and I just plain love them!
Wow, I think Brad has found his soulmate. he sure found the mother of his children.
Two points I wanted to bring up. In the Cinematical Interviews, Angelina said she didn’t do comedies because she didn’t think she is funny and so stays away from that. I hope she changes her mind. Personally, I would love to see her do a completely zany, funny character and just let loose.
++++++++++++++++++++
I agree. I would love to see her do a not convencional comedy. Like a wes anderson movie.
When Is Angelina gonna be on the CBS show?
she’s really doing her best to promote this film. they really work hard and put up with a lot.
Such an amazing woman, not only does she have beauty and brains, she has a big heart full of love. I hope she never stops acting, I would like to see her in movies for the rest of my life.
if Brad is IGNORING the fact that George doesn’t like Angelina… well, that makes Brad an ASS & JERK!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Frenchy, anon, Sharon and ntt for your answers.
I was just curious to find out how that works. I know Angie does not care so much about an oscar she already has one.
That you very much!!!
Thanks for the article. Have read it before. Like it because it’s not tabs.
Jared you should add the link of the marianne pearl interview, also on newsweek.
If someone is ignoring that tabloids lie and make stuff up all the time, then that makes that person an ASS & JERK.
I would love to see Brad and Angelina as a modern day Nick and Nora Charles from the Thin Man series. How likely is it that these two will ever star again opposite each other in a film? I think I need to watch MMS again. LOL!!!

well said.
ok, it’s a national enquirer people….another tabloid needs to have Brad and Angie to sell their magazine.
Dede Gardner
Even after six years, Jolie is suspected of being a dilettante, a “celebrity tourist” to global crises. It’s a charge that irritates those closest to her. “What would she have to do to prove that she’s sincere?” says Pitt’s producing partner, Dede Gardner. “Should she give more money? More time? It’s a black-hole debate. When people judge anyone’s sincerity, I just think, ‘Oh, yeah? What are you doing?’”
Collin Powell
Her work with refugees is not something to decorate herself. She studies the issues.” Powell has spoken with Jolie several times over the years, and they’ve been honored together at benefits for refugee causes. There is, he says, no sanctimony about her. “For her, it’s not about saving the world, it’s about saving kids,” he says. “She doesn’t need this. This needed her.”
***
Thank you Dede Gardner, Thank you Colin Powel, Thank you both, God bless your mighty hearts!!!!
And as usual…Jared, you’re the best.
Great article! She is an amazing woman. So full of compassion and caring for others. She goes through so much and yet doesn’t let it get her down.
A great interview on a fab person. U go, Angie!
Thanks Jared u 2 sweet!:)
Hey, remember that Angelina & Maddox didn’t waved at George when Brad was doing the Entertainment weekly interview with him??
I really think Angie and George didn’t like each other!! And if Brad is ignoring this… Brad is a jerk!!!!!
Who’s the best leading man that Angelina has worked with? I love Brad but gotta say Denzel Washington in The Bone Collector.
Good interview by the way.
It’s comforting to know that we have an Angelina Jolie trying to make a difference in the lives of forgotten children. We should asked how can we help in our small way?
On what matters to her the most: “People can question your choices, accuse you of things, but your real work and your integrity will [win] out. All that matters is if I build a strong family, if I’m able to do my advocacy work and if my children are happy.”

Just what is your proof (i.e., interview with George or Angie or Brad that states this or a solid journalistic publication) that George is leaking stuff to tabloids?
That is so beneath him. I’m surprised anyone gives any credence to that. He has defended Brad and Angie several times by saying they are a wonderful, in love couple.
An actor of his stature doesn’t need to “leak” stuff to tabloids. And if they are saying he does, then why do you believe them since they aren’t believable about anything?
Shame on you for making stuff up.
I waved to my cousin yesterday.. she didnt wave back .. realized that SHE DIDNT SEE ME!

Brad PREFERS his friends like George Clooney over Angie!!!

Oh, I think that Angelina would be great at comedies. The problem is that we’ve grown myopic to the variety of comedic personas women can play. We’re looking for another Meg Ryan, but she wasn’t the end-all, be-all. Look at the past; the comedic blondes ranged from Lombard to Harlow to Dunne to West to Blondell to Holliday to Monroe to Day to Sullavan. The independent woman; from R. Russell to K. Hepburn to Arden to Colbert to Loy to Hussey.
So many women, so many ages, so many voices. And given the fact that we have more freedoms and more different perspectives that need to be voiced, there’s no way that there’s no room for Angelina.
I am glad Newsweek is in a way setting the record straight against tabloid lies. No wonder AJ didn’t want to address those lies when she was on Dateline. She has a better way to do it.
Angie doesn’t hate George. they were friendly and laughing at the O13 premier in LA. STOP, STOP, no really STOP the rumor.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/16/AR2007061601070.html
With any luck, we might soon have Brad Pitt kicking around town for a while. And on his own firepower, too — not just as Angelina’s plus-one.
Producers for one of his next films, “State of Play,” have been scoping out the District for potential shooting locations — and you figure they have to come here. The story? Basically the stuff of Larry Flynt’s most feverish dreams– investigative reporters trying to solve the murder of a pretty young political staffer. It’s based on a hugely popular BBC miniseries of the same name, but the setting switched from London to Washington and the suspect member of Parliament transformed into a congressman.
Earlier this month, filmmakers checked out George Washington University Hospital as a possible locale. No decisions yet made, according to school officials, who say they’ll check out the script to make sure it doesn’t represent the medical center as a hotbed of malpractice or staph infections or anything. Last weekend, director Kevin Macdonald — who made a splash last year with Forest Whitaker’s “The Last King of Scotland” — toured our very own newsroom, though we understand it was strictly for research; doubtful they’d ever actually get to film here.
But studio reps say that filming won’t begin until well into the fall and that no decisions about shooting locations have been made yet. In other words, they could still just end up filming the whole darn thing in Toronto, dressed up with D.C. street signs. If so? We’ll just have to cross our fingers for the next project on Pitt’s schedule: playing John Dean (!) in Watergate drama “Dirty Tricks” — co-starring Meryl Streep as Martha Mitchell, Gwyneth Paltrow as Mo Dean, and Annette Bening as Helen Thomas.
just wait and see…..but would it be funny when Angie and her family took 2 months vacation and spend part of the vacation at George’s house in Italy…..* wink *
obviously a ploy to get us off topic from this amazing interview.
George likes and admires Angie. Angie likes George. George has said lovely things about Angelina.
This is just a way to trash brad by saying his friend doesnt like angie. Nice try..but… no cigar.
Thanks HA, finallyyyy someone who wants to talk about Angie’s movies and not the other crazy tabloid stuff! I’m with you on Denzel and the Bone Collector too…though she Antonio Banderas in Original Sin run a close second.
I think it’s a tad too early to be talking about the Oscars here. We haven’t even seen all the other contenders yet. Angelina is a fantastic actress but there are so many factors to winning that golden statuette. Much as I hope she’ll win another one, I know there are so many actors and actresses who deserve one but have never received it. And there are some who got that award but made me wonder how it happened.
That said, I love you, Angelina! I am looking forward to watching A Mighty Heart.

I get why you guys defend Brad and Angie…. but why you ALSO defend George Clooney??????
Here is a cool little video I found online. It is behind the scenes footage from A Mighty Heart. It is no narrated featurette or anything like that, just random shots from behind the scenes while they are filming the movie. But Angie is in it, and she looks great and is doing great work! Here\’s the link to it:
http://www.iklipz.com/MovieDetail.aspx?Mov…6d-263a39c111da
I don’t think it matters if the person play Mariane’s role be a “color” actor or not but it should be someone who is really passionate and can grasps the message Mariane wants to get across. I remember readning an artical before that Brad was interested in this movie for Jennifer A. (when they were still married). Now can you imagine JA playin this role? *deep in thought..*
Angelina Jolie’s Best Perf in Years
So said Richard Roeper on Ebert and Roeper yesterday, along with his co-host Robert Wilonsky (from HDNet). Both liked the film and gave it two thumbs up but Wilsonky said it was mainly Jolie’s performance that got him. Roeper said the “O” word.
A Mighty Heart is coming out early but the combination of the Jolie/Pitt tsunami in the print and online world will make her performance resonate by year’s end. She will likely go head to head with Cate Blanchett for Elizabeth, among others.

CORRECTION
Brad never said that this project was for ___; the press presumed that it was for ___ because she was a partner at Plan B. Self-serving, much?
Don’t perpetuate a tabloid lie, please.
Jill
Loosing team? your comment is so smart. How old are you?
I think it is about time that I exit this blog.
Fanatism is a dangerous addiction
Okey, BAMPZS fans have it your way and CONTINUE to ignore the truth that George don’t like Angelina and that Brad very COWARDLY is ignoring this fact also!!
You deserves better than this; Angelina!!!!
I don’t know if I want to see angie doing comedies. I would love to see her work with Chris Nolan, Christian Bale and Ryan Gosling.
I agree. Angelina does deserve better. She deserves a REAL man. Okay?
Lmao
Thanks Jared. Love that interview. With powerful champions, like Colin Powel and Dede Gardener, no wonder Angie doesn’t always try to defend herself against those stupid, trashy tabs and some insane fans of the X, as they continue to belittle her work.
As someone mentioned upthread, it’s rather telling that there has never been a denial from X’s camp that she was never considered for the part, while many quick denials have come forth for the nose job, breast job, boyfriend, and every other inane tab report.
I remember readning an artical before that Brad was interested in this movie for Jennifer A.
____________________
That was never true
Pitt bought the rights to “Heart” through Plan B, the production company he shared with his wife, Jennifer Aniston. Aniston, in fact, told a Vogue writer that she was considering playing Mariane. But by the time the film was ready to be made in 2006, Pitt had divorced Aniston and fallen in love with Jolie. Pitt thought Jolie would be perfect casting for Pearl, but didn’t bring it up. “I KNEW THE PART HAD TO BE PLAYED BY SOMENOE WITH MARIANE’S STRENGTH AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD, but I didn’t know how to broach the subject,” he says. “It feels a little like Wolfowitz trying to get his girlfriend a job.
DOES THIS SOUND ANYTHING LIKE ANISTON TO YOU?
just because she was a part of plan b at the time, people thought the book was bought as a vehicle for her. Brad had said before that Plan b was not a company for him and his wife to star in, but for stories he wanted to tell, he wouldnt act in a plan b movie if he didnt think he was right for a part..(i am sure he thought the same about Jennifer)
Yes, Jennifer was asked about it and she said she would “like to think she could play such a role, but also I reserve the right not to”
Thank goondess Brad’s was there for the inteview. His quotes are sublime.
What in the World….BP, AJ and GC? Honestly this is the heights. I guess now that the old triangle is waning, the tabs want to create a new one.

I think you really enjoy the attention. Too bad the fans kept answering your dumb comments. We should stop giving the haters the attention.
Meant to say that Brad had said before that Plan b was not JUST a company for him and his wife to star in,
just when i thought i couldn’t possibly admire this woman any more…
truly inspiring!
I had a chance to speak with Angelina Jolie at the press junket for A Mighty Heart on Friday, and I asked her about a few of her upcoming (or potentially upcoming) projects. As for the one the fanboys care most about — Sin City 2 — she laughed when I asked her if she would do it, and then she smiled and simply said “It might be resurfacing.” She had a little more to say about the adaptation of Atlas Shrugged, which is moving forward very slowly, despite having the Plan B powerhouse of Pitt and Jolie behind it. Angelina told me that the project is still on the table, but “the thing with Atlas is just, we all feel that it’s one of those projects where if you can’t do it right, you really can’t touch it. So we have not had all the pieces come together. There’s not been a director that’s right to come on, or all of those elements. So until it does, you know, I certainly don’t want to be a part of something that’s just put together to hit ‘this date.’”

What in the World….BP, AJ and GC? Honestly this is the heights. I guess now that the old triangle is waning, the tabs want to create a new one.
lol EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING!!
Will Brad leave Angie for George? Stay tuned! haters are soo dumb.

just wait and see…..but would it be funny when Angie and her family took 2 months vacation and spend part of the vacation at George’s house in Italy…..* wink *
*****
Yeah, getting ready for our wedding…oops, I’ve said too much
Maniston’s chin is too long to look like Mariane. the part went to the right person and that’s not because I am a fan of Angie. I like she looks for like Mariane than Maniston. Plus I think Mariane would prefer Angie over Maniston.

Like you just did …. LOL!
Gosh her toes are soooo long, is her head growing her body shrinking? Either way, its taken over
I love that she is setting the record straight. Maybe Mickey can have fianlly have his redemption :lol: :lol:
i REPEAT….. Mmmmm is half-human and half-beast! so pls..IGNORE the BEAST!!!
she’s the most boring person in the world!!! She gaves 10 interviews per week so when does she find time to stay with her children? I think she’s so over-exposed that if she doesn’t decide to stay away for a while, people (who arent’t her fans) will get very very tired of her.
I’m not an Aniston fan, but I can’t stand Angelina anymore and so many people
Again with the I’s instead of the us and we. After watching her on Jon Stewart just goes to prove once again they cannot agree on anything (7 to 13 kids, difference of how to handle their personal life in the media. Hmmm Tick tock

Yes, you go AG. Only dumb haters would think GC could leave you for the horrible, ugly Angelina. :lol: I am so glad you are here to set the record straight, not that I doubt for any moment his love and dedication to you.

if you are sick of her, don’t read any magazines or look at anything with her in it. I think that would really help your sickness.
I love reading and seeing pictures of Angelina. She’s a very interesting person and I will always welcome news about her, both onscreen and off. I don’t think an hour or two a day of work in giving interviews is excessive.

I am not jen fan either 122. I am sick to death of hearing about jolie too. If she wants to bring a strong family then she should just keep her mouth shut and get on with it. Her kids are heading to rehab soon if she continues to expose her entire thought process like this!
I guess this is why they want to interview her again:
From last year this time
NEW YORK, June 13, 2006
A Good Kind Of Exploitation
Harry Smith: Angelina Jolie And Brad Pitt Use Their Fame Wisely
June 20 is Refugee Day — a day the United Nations uses to focus on the plight of refugees around the world.
I mention this because I’ve been in refugee camps. I have talked to people who have had to run for their lives. I know that they are a brave lot. They are survivors of the highest order.
The reason I know June 20 is Refugee Day is because Angelina Jolie told me. She and Brad Pitt have done a remarkable thing — turning their celebrity and the birth of their child into a platform for causes they care about.
Because their baby was born in Namibia, geographically challenged teenagers in America can suddenly find that country on a map. They sold the rights for the pictures of the sweet-looking little cherub for millions which will go to those causes, too.
Pitt and Jolie are really onto something. As long as people are obsessed with them, why not exploit it — in a good way?

When Is Angelina gonna be on the CBS show?
she’s really doing her best to promote this film. they really work hard and put up with a lot.
Of course. Brad is the producer!!!!, if this movie doesn’t work they don’t make money and so how can they buy others luxury houses, ducati, take fly lessons etc. etc…….
What’s with the Angie haters buzzing around JJ like infected mosquitos…. can’t you go somewhere else and spread the plague to your own kind?

Celebs take on social causes

By Nora Boustany
Washington Post
WASHINGTON – Hollywood actress Drew Barrymore traipsed purposefully up the Capitol steps last month in a simple black dress, red-soled black pumps and russet mane, not for a film shoot but to lobby for child-feeding programs in Africa as a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. World Food Program.
Within a week, $10 donations snowballed into $25,000, according to Jennifer Parmelee, a spokeswoman for the World Food Program.
“Almost every star has his or her cause,” said Alan J. Abramson, director of the non-profit sector and philanthropy program at the Aspen Institute, a research and advocacy organization. “Celebrities and their humanitarian work can sometimes show the way, especially overseas.”
Film star Lucy Liu appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on March 1, 2006, right after visiting earthquake victims in Pakistan on behalf of UNICEF. Traffic on the agency’s Web site, http://www.unicefusa.org , rose by 91 percent that day. “Compared to an average weekday, we received a 300 percent increase in calls and 240 percent more donations. All in all, we raised nearly $500,000,” said Marissa Buckanoff, public relations director of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.
There is more, much more. When George Clooney appeared on Winfrey’s show in April 2006 after visiting Africa with his father, contributions to UNICEF rose 20 percent.
And when Angelina Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, sat down for a two-hour interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper on June 20 last year, donations spiked by more than a half-million dollars, Elisabeth Nolet said by telephone from UNHCR’s Geneva office.
When People magazine reported that a journal written by Jolie during a 2005 Africa tour was on the U.S. Memorial Holocaust Museum Web site, the institution’s server crashed.
“It received more hits than it could initially handle,” said Andy Hollinger, director of media relations.
Rock star Bono of U2 has gained the attention of world leaders with his pioneering cause: rooting out poverty with debt relief and trade and raising money to fight AIDS on a global scale. “More than anyone else, Jolie and Bono embody the new generation of entertainers who moved into this realm of social actions,” Prendergast said. “They are the high-profile trailblazers.”
For many actors, succeeding in Hollywood is no longer enough, and many said they are looking to move beyond the fiction of the screen to the real world.

ATTENTION JJ’s Brad & Angelina fans, LISTEN UP: I’m sure you’re wondering at the flurry of anti-George Clooney posts by people we don’t recognize here on these boards. Well, they are National Enquirer (American Media Inc) HACK STAFF MEMBERS, trying to whip up interest and DUPE you into buying the next issue which FICTITIOUSLY has Angie slamming George! Hahaha!! Their activity has been hyperfrenzied, imploring the fans here to ‘hate George,’ saying ‘George sucks,’ and that Angie better watch out — well, WITNESS THE TABLOID HACK STAFF at the National Enquirer (American Media Inc) trying to generate interest for their next LYING PIECE of TRASH issue, right here on OUR TURF!! THEY ARE SO OBVIOUS that it isn’t FUNNY!! Let’s really show them what we think of them, shall we? We of course don’t buy them any way, but let’s do that one better - if you happen to be in a store, turn the sh*teous RAG BACK to FRONT, HIDING IT and even better — just cover it up with PEOPLE MAGAZINE issues. Think of it as a little thank you to the American Media Inc & National Enquirer TROLLS now wasting our time, slurring George and Angie right here on Just Jared, trying to hype their next issue. THANK YOU!
….NE is so stupid. Number one, they’re only giving O13 more press and publicity, which will equal more box office so it’s all good.
The funny part is, it looks like they’re trying to create a NEW ‘triangle,’ this time, it’s Angelina and George fighting over Brad, instead of the usual fugly suspect. ROFLMAO!! I gotta tell you, THIS fictional triangle is a helluva lot better than the tired old one with Maniston.
They better watch out with George however, George can’t not ignore out and out lies about him, he will jump into the mix no matter what - so don’t be surprised if he says or does something to ridicule or call NE out in some capacity.

Re FAUX news:
If AJ doesn’t say anything in this Fox stalker clip of her on the street, what is O’Reilly even going to have on? He’s been halfway decent to her as well lately, and he’s had her Dad on saying nice things - not that that is any reason to turn over a new leaf towards him, but I did give him credit for not being as insane as usual, and I have to admit I was surprised at his not only not bashing her, but giving the ol’ ‘wtf?!’ to Freidman. Perhaps Geraldo has told him not to go there, since he likes Angie too.
_____Switching gears_____
About Rosie…people need to calm down, she was just doing some stand-up. It was a funny crack. I like Rosie as she was one of the few peeps who on a nationally televised morning talk show, always had Angie’s back, when Elizab*tch and co. tried to cut her down, and whip up the mini-vans. I loved her outspokenness, the political and geo-political dialogue she otherwise brought to The View, that you KNOW wouldn’t be taking place otherwise. She is fine in my book. Rock on Rosie, I hope you get the Price is Right gig, and a talk show babe. I’d like to see someone of her stature, get even more powerful in television - bigger than she was. It’s always good when powerful people have your back. Maniston has her Oprah bosom to cry in, and hide behind. Angie will take the studios, directors and other actors worth their salt — but a big powerful TV personality would be great too. I’m looking forward to Rosie’s return.
_____Switching gears_____
Laughing my ass off, at someone worried about Maniston affecting the ‘OSCAR’ vote. Most actors who have been around for years like that old TV sit-com b*tch, have got an in on these committees, it doesn’t matter if they make ‘for sh*t’ movies either — hell, I think Teri Hatcher is on the committee too. Get me?
shiiit- really? funny it is in my new Newsweek!
sorry estelle, i mean beastly-Mmmmm is describing her BEASTLY sick-self.

Instead of predicting how much AMH will make, let’s guess something more fun.
How much a “writer” of the NE makes? because to actually STEAL info from a blog is LAME. I would love to know what they do in ther staff meetings, besides eating cookies.
Repeat:IAM IDIOT
Cliniqua I wouldn’t doubt at all that you are right about NE being here trying to drum up an interest in their next little fiction. I saw that picture of Brad, Angie, and George that was mentioned, and all I read from her expression was pure pride about her man Brad. Angie was indeed beaming at George, but her face seemed to be saying, “Ain’t he (Brad)great?” to George. She looked so proud of Brad.
Oh, I must say… I love this interview! Def a keeper to be re-read again. I think it’s better than the Enquirer one because the Enq did get some facts incorrect, such as X being up for MP, etc… I’m going to print it up and tuck in my copy of the Enquirer for future reference. ;)!
Shirtless or a Beater?
Pardon the crass but if you ask me, it’s like comparing **** to diarrhea. Both suck.
So here’s Matthew McConaughey, electing not to put a shirt on per usual and Ryan Phillippe with his kids on Father’s Day wearing his carb face and a white beater.
Seriously… how does one choose?
Me? I choose to restore my faith in quiveration with this: David Beckham’s lizard voice speaking Spanish. Somehow, in Spanish, it ain’t so bad. Close your eyes, in Spanish, the loins will enjoy.
Click here for the clip - Thank you Susanne!
PS. Strangest thing - have you seen Playing By Heart? Filmed about 10 years ago, circa 1997, starring Sean Connery, Gillian Anderson, a very young and skinny Jon Stewart (Jon and Gillian kissing tripped me out!), and none other than Ryan Phillippe with Angelina Jolie as his love interest.
Came home late Saturday night and couldn’t sleep, turned on the telly, caught the last 20 minutes. Happened to be this super cheese scene in a car when Angie’s character tells Ryan’s character she loves him and lives for him and cries about it and he loves her back but can’t “handle” the intensity and bolts from the car but later on shows up at her house and they talk about their love and their souls and then finally they make out.
Back then, Ryan was still cute. Like Cruel Intentions cute. And Angelina, then around 22, still had a chubby youthful face, sexy as all hell. What killed me though was they were surprisingly, shockingly…HOT together. Even through the bad acting and the nauseating dialogue.
Cut to present day: he’s still a punk, she’s all woman. Funny what happens and doesn’t happen in ten long years.
I’m lost!! What did george say Post a qoute!!!!

***************************************
Brad and John Dean and GP as Mo Dean? Does this mean they will be playing husband and wife? hahaha!! OMG, just goes to show you that Brad has indeed put all his GP baggage behind him if he is willing to play that part. His feelings for GP are dead and buried, and he has moved on into a fulfilled life with Angie. I can’t fathom another woman ever turning Brad’s head again.
Can you imagine the tabloid fodder on this one, though? hee hee!! But hey, if it knocks X out of the tabloid picture, then I’m all for it. GP seems to have grown a spine and owned up to her responsibilities, unlike curtain hair girl, and I can’t see GP allowing any rumors to grow before squelching them. Angie has nothing to worry about… not that she’s the type who would, anyway.

Wednesday, 6/20, Anderson Cooper 360 degrees, reprise: The commercials seem like this broadcast is the re-airing of Anderson Cooper’s interview last year right after Shiloh’s birth. Angelina offered the interview to Anderson Cooper because he had done stories on Africa. The interview focuses mostly on Angelina’s humanitarian/refugee work. (CNN denied that it paid money for the interview - distinctly legitimate journalism standards and ethics; unlike tabloids).I’m encouraged by some of the blog posts which say that Angelina has won them over with the facts.

I read this drivel over the weekend. This is their hilarious “Ex-Nanny Tells All” story. On the cover they proclaim the nanny spills on Brad & Angelina’s “knock down fights”…only…they never quite fit that into the story. This bit here refers to Angie not liking Porgie and that because he’s a heartless b@stard with woman and always has floozies around him that Brad is going to be tempted to stray. I mean, comen, NE…Brad is fcuking Angelina Jolie. Who the hell is he going to find more desireable? Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner and Marilyn Monroe are all dead. Liz Taylor or Sophia Loren in their youth…maybe…but…they ain’t currently in their youth, therefore…Brad ain’t straying and your story is totally ridiculous.

Angelina is much better than george. Clooney is the one leaking all those quotes to the tabloids and Ted casablanca. He doesn\’t like angelina and has been very chatty about it (I\’m not talking about that stupid joke he made on cannes). Brad knows but ignores it.
-=-=-=-
If what you say is true and Brad knows and ignores it, he is a bigger ass than I thought.
++++++++++++
If Porgie is feeding any rumors to Ted C, it’s strictly to get his jollies and make Ted look like an idiot for repeating them. Porgie is not going to risk alienating Brad Pitt just because he may not like his woman. Look at all the years he was friends with Brad while Brad was married to the albatross. Considering that X was also involved with and cr@pped on another friend of his…you’d think Porgie would have been spreading rumors to Ted C about X, but he didn’t…dammit…
You are an amazing woman of all time. You can’t be compared to others, you are you. Just GREAT, GREAT woman. Wish you, Brad & your 4 children good health & happiness.

Good afternoon to all the positive posters out there celebrating our favourite family! Haven’t read the full interview yet but like what I’ve seen so far. Nice to see Newsweek doing a more serious article on Angie.
There is no other actor in the world today who in her career life:
- is on CNN twice in one week (Larry King Live and this Wednesday’s AC360 for World Refugee Day)
- has just been appointed to the FRC
- is a UNHCR Ambassador
- has a film premiering that may garner her an Oscar nomination
And, in her personal life:
- is a mother to 4 amazing children
- the wife/partner of another A-List actor (Brad Pitt no less!) who is premiering his movie at the same time and produced her movie (and is involved in the same humanitarian causes as she is!)
- Has just spent a wonderful weekend in NYC with their family and extended family, putting the complete kibosh on any gossip that his family doesn’t love Angie and the kids.
Gee have I missed anything?
My point being that we have SO MANY amazing things to celebrate here and talk about that I hardly even know where to start! No wonder the trolls are flapping about in desperation :lol: So let’s keep our eye on the ball and focus on the bigger picture here.
Wednesday is World Refugee Day and Angie will be on AC360 on CNN in the evening for an episode entitled “Refugees in Crisis”.
Also for those of you who would like more info. please visit:
http://www.savedarfur.org as well as UNHCR.org for more info. about how you can help and to learn about what’s going on in the world (besides Parisite being in jail) and Angie’s experiences with her UNHCR work.
PS - #139 Nora - let’s break out the malaria tablets!! :lol: (But caution, they have awful side effects :-( ).
Pax and hugs!
Yesterday, it was all about Shiloh; Angelina carrying Shiloh; Angelina ‘using’ Shiloh; Zahara being ignored while Shiloh got the adoration. I guess the haters grew tired of throwing innocent babies under the bus so they moved on to George Clooney. George hates Angelina; Angelina hates George; George and Angelina should hook up… please!!

Pre-taped? I tought she left NYC 2 days ago. But WOW at least she has the balls to be on the show, I think that’s awesome.
~~~Yep lots of celebs heck politicians don’t go on his show when everything is going smooth. For Angleina to go after all the BS Fox created shows how strong a person she is and that she has no problem standing up to anyone.
Thanks for the interview Jared.
Second, I was happy to read that Ed Norton was at the after party for the Premiere of A Mighty Heart. He was there for the “God Grew Tired of Us” premiere too. Seems like he sneaks in and doesn’t let the photographers catch him but we always read about him being at events with Brad and Angelina. I think it’s really sweet how Brad and Ed have managed to stay friends all these years. I know every one talks about George Clooney being friends with Brad, but I feel Brad and Ed have the more genuine friendshi.
Oh, and remember the Pen!s song??? LOL. I think those two (Ed and Brad) probably are closer than Brad and Clooney.
+++++++++++++
I think you’re right. They are. IIRC rumor was that Ed Norton was one of the first people Brad called to say he was dumping the ball and chain. It’s just too bad he didn’t dump her in the Pacific Ocean.
Okay, just reading upthread and it looks like I can add Cancer activist and appearing on O’Reilly to the list! :D Go Angie!
I enjoyed the interview too.
My problem is that while Black actresses and other actresses of color are working under a disadvantage in HW, I resent the fact that some special interests would try to hijack this film, specifically the role of Mariane, without any qualifications except color.
It is entirely possible that some actresses of color contacted Mariane; and maybe, read the book. But if they didn’t earn her trust on an enterprise she was already leery about, then game over.
+++++++++++
Piper, my whole problem with that is, no offense to you Halle and Thandie fans, but neither of them have the talent to pull the role off. Why give the role to an actress of color if she can’t act or isn’t a good enough actor to be convincing? Like MP said, “Aren’t we past that?” When I first heard Angie got the role I didn’t think anything of it. My first thought was that at least it went to someone who was savvy about international affairs and understood the complexities and issues at hand. I didn’t think about MP being a “black woman” until much later when I was reading the comments on here. Maybe I should have been offended for my people, but I wasn’t. We can’t always expect people to hand us things because we’re in the minority. Some things have to be earned and I don’t think either of the aforementioned actresses EARNED this role over Angie. And for the record, I’m not quite convinced Halle Berry even knows here Pakistan is. Deep thoughts have not frequent visitors in the mind of Halle Berry.
CORRECTION
Brad never said that this project was for ___; the press presumed that it was for ___ because she was a partner at Plan B. Self-serving, much?
Don’t perpetuate a tabloid lie, please.
+++++++++++
Piper, the tabs only perpetuated that lie because X started it by telling Vogue, “I’d like to think I could play the part.” As usual, the b#tch, made the acquistion of AMH about herself when she knew full well that Brad had NOT bought that movie with her in mind. When the purchase was announced Brad was asked if he and X would play the roles and said flat out, “No.” Then she turned around and told Vogue she was considering it. Yet people never point out this woman’s lies…unless it’s us and unfortunately none of us own or run a major news magazine or newspaper with which we can correct the lies X has told. It’s too damned Bad that Janice Min doesn’t highlight X’s lies and manipulations in a “Faking The News” section. Why limit themselves to the tabs!
Re: Berry and Pakistan… I won’t go there with you because I really haven’t made up my mind about her. But I do think that her talents have been blown out of proportion. She can grow and get better, but…
I do marvel at those who are voicing their indignation about casting, whether it’s an actress of color or Mumbles. The crux of their argument is that these people were deprived of the opportunity to ‘prove’ themselves. Uh… hello, while showing off acting chops is incidental to this film, it was conceived and executed based on Mariane’s consent. And since Mariane is, by all accounts, an astute woman, wouldn’t she pick up the questionable motives of those who were out for their own personal glory? And wouldn’t be sufficient enough cause for her to have the project selved, since Brad clearly broke his word to her by hiring someone of so little consequence and conscience?
I remember last year when the tabs attempted to accuse Angelina of ’stealing’ Mariane away from ___. Again, with a woman who lost so much, would she willingly sacrifice a friendship with ___ just because Angelina came into the picture? No, assuming that Mariane was ever a friend of ___; somehow, it’s doubtful. Angelina has something, but not something that would pull two strong people out of their particular universes.
115 Angelina not doing the Eastwood movie | 06/18/2007 at 5:03 pm
I had a chance to speak with Angelina Jolie at the press junket for A Mighty Heart on Friday, and I asked her about a few of her upcoming (or potentially upcoming) projects. As for the one the fanboys care most about — Sin City 2 — she laughed when I asked her if she would do it, and then she smiled and simply said “It might be resurfacing.” She had a little more to say about the adaptation of Atlas Shrugged, which is moving forward very slowly, despite having the Plan B powerhouse of Pitt and Jolie behind it. Angelina told me that the project is still on the table, but “the thing with Atlas is just, we all feel that it’s one of those projects where if you can’t do it right, you really can’t touch it. So we have not had all the pieces come together. There’s not been a director that’s right to come on, or all of those elements. So until it does, you know, I certainly don’t want to be a part of something that’s just put together to hit ‘this date.’”
I posted this on Saturday night and said I didn’t think Angie was doing The Changeling…but still people persist in saying she is. I just don’t see how they could possibly fit it into their schedule. They’re going to be in Europe for a while on vacay, then on to Chicago to do more on Wanted, then Brad films Burn After Reading in NYC in late August/Sept and earlier someone posted a Washington Post story about locales being scouted for State of Play, which begins shooting in early Nov. That would leave Angie with the month of October to shoot TC in LA. Eastwood works fast…but not that fast.
I am not jen fan either 122. I am sick to death of hearing about jolie too. If she wants to bring a strong family then she should just keep her mouth shut and get on with it. Her kids are heading to rehab soon if she continues to expose her entire thought process like this!
+++++++++++++
I was going to say that Angie’s kids would probably see yours at rehab, but then I remembered that poor, everyday Mad Dog 20/20 winos don’t go to rehab…they just hang out on the corner bumming quarters off hard working schmoes and sipping from their bottle wrapped in a brown paper bag. So….nevermind.
I hope I’m going to see this one soon. I’ve been probably the biggest supporter of Michael Winterbottom here at the site, and this is his highest-profile film to date. I’m not sure about the subject matter, but it sounds like he’s made an interesting film, and I’m willing to always give him the benefit of the doubt:
Hi guys,
I just saw a preview screening of “A Mighty Heart,” the movie about Daniel Pearl. I probably shouldn’t say where or when.
I can say that the only thing I didn’t like about the film was the title, which I think is more fitting for far duller formulaic fare. Indeed, the film could have easily been rather weak and obvious in a TV-movie-of-the-week way. What saves it from going down this road is Michael Winterbottom, the director. He shoots it in a documentary style with a handheld camera, a technique that has worked well for him recently. He also refuses to overly sentimentalize the subject (though he does get close, especially with the closing scenes).
The movie begins as Pearl seeks out an interview with an elusive subject. After making some connections, he ends up in a taxi in Pakistan. After that, we only see him in flashback and the movie focuses on his wife, Mariane, played by Angelina Jolie. I’ve come to dislike a lot of Jolie’s choices in roles, and she could have easily kept me away from this film as well, but I’m happy to say she actually stretches herself as an actress and does a fine job.
Most of the film tells parallel stories. Supported by a number of friends and colleagues, Mariane frets about her husband’s safety as a number of threatening images from the kidnappers come in. Meanwhile, Pakistani intelligence services, assisted by U.S. embassy officials and the FBI, attempt to track down Pearl and his kidnappers. Many of these scenes play out as a police procedural, though the setting is the convoluted and unfamiliar underworld of Muslim extremists in Pakistan. The standout actor in this part of the story is Irfan Khan, an Indian actor who plays the Pakistani captain in charge of the case. You might remember Khan from the recent film “The Namesake,” but I would also highly recommend checking him out in “The Warrior,” a British film shot in India and featuring Khan as the hatchet man of a brutish warlord who experiences a crisis of conscience. Khan is equally magnetic in “A Mighty Heart.” The heavy bags under his large eyes alone speak volumes about the character. The cross-cutting between the two stories works extremely well. You’re neither too bogged down in police-speak and false leads nor too tired out by Mariane Pearl’s grieving.
The setting is utterly convincing. You really feel that you are immersed in this uncertain culture where the west is both an ally to be courted and appeased and a threat to the more extremist elements. Yet it’s not a simple case of the good guy Americans vs. evil Muslim terrorists. This is another key reason why I think Winterbottom is the ideal director for this material. He’s made two other fine films about the contemporary Middle East, “In this World” and “Road to Guantanamo,” and in both he showed an extraordinary sensitivity to the culture and people in this part of the world. In fact, “A Mighty Heart” serves as sort of a companion piece or flip-side to “Road to Guantanamo.” In that film, also based on a true story, a group of innocent British Muslims are caught up in the general round-up of “enemy combatants” in Afghanistan and held captive at Guantanamo. In “A Mighty Heart,” the victim is an innocent American held by Muslim extremists. The camp at Guantanamo is even referenced in this film.
I need to touch on one final issue, which is how can the film have any suspense when everyone who’s even glanced at the news in the past few years already knows how it will end up and that it will end up really badly? It’s really a question of how well the filmmaker practices his art. One of the most gripping scenes I recall from recent films occurs near the end of “United 93″ when the passengers are battling to regain control of the hijacked plane. Of course I knew how it would end, yet I was also living the moment with the characters. The same thing happened to me with “A Mighty Heart.” I was so caught up with the desperate search for the kidnappers that only when the dreaded video camera is delivered did the horrific ending of the real event come back to me.
In short, I would definitely recommend this film as a tonic to anyone interested in seeing something weightier than all the summer blockbusters out there.
Thanks for reading, and if you use this please cite my name as “The Stranger.”
For the record, I think Ted C. was the one who implied that George was pi$$ed at Brad for not committing to O13 because of Shiloh’s impending birth. I think he went a step further and said that O13 could be done, sans Brad, and immediately, the hens introduced Vince as a possible replacement.
But {sigh}… that opening sequence… no one but Brad can pull off that oblivious swagger that made me pay twice (and counting) to see it. :twisted:
US weekly has a picture of “what if Jen had played Mariane Pearl” the pic looks horrible. Also, Us film critic Thelma Adams think Jen doesn’t have the range to play Mariane
When Is Angelina gonna be on the CBS show?
she’s really doing her best to promote this film. they really work hard and put up with a lot.
Of course. Brad is the producer!!!!, if this movie doesn’t work they don’t make money and so how can they buy others luxury houses, ducati, take fly lessons etc. etc…….
+++++++++++++
Let’s see…they can always use some of the $20MIL+20% of the gross that Brad is getting for O13. Or some of the $17.5MIL that Angie is getting for Wanted. Or how about some of the $20MIL+20% of the gross Brad is getting for CCOBB. Or maybe they’ll dip into their person fortunes - Brad’s worth over $150MIL, Angie at about $50MIL. They can probably pay for the items you mentioned above off the INTEREST on the money they already have. Meanwhile, you’re going to be getting your eviction notice from your landlord because you didn’t pay the rent because you spent all your money on your DSL connection so you could b#tch about 2 millionaires who’s shoes you’ll never be able to afford.
The inability to understand sarcasm is a sign of low intelligence.
George and Matt were being sarcastic in Cannes about Brad’s “horrible” wife, and a few knuckle heads just don’t see it. It’s called expressing the obvious, as in Angie is gorgeous and everyone knows it, so they feel so “sorry” for “poor” Brad. Get it?
Eh, forget it….I cast my pearls before the hater swine.
Brad playing John Dean to GP’s Mo Dean is only a rumor? Oh, Ok. I sorta hope it isn’t, because when the shooting of the movie comes and goes without incident, and there is no sign of Brad fleeing Angie’s embrace for GP’s, we can say “I told you so”. haha!!
We’ll just have to cross our fingers for the next project on Pitt’s schedule: playing John Dean (!) in Watergate drama “Dirty Tricks” — co-starring Meryl Streep as Martha Mitchell, Gwyneth Paltrow as Mo Dean, and Annette Bening as Helen Thomas.
***************************************
Brad and John Dean and GP as Mo Dean? Does this mean they will be playing husband and wife? hahaha!! OMG, just goes to show you that Brad has indeed put all his GP baggage behind him if he is willing to play that part. His feelings for GP are dead and buried, and he has moved on into a fulfilled life with Angie. I can’t fathom another woman ever turning Brad’s head again.
Can you imagine the tabloid fodder on this one, though? hee hee!! But hey, if it knocks X out of the tabloid picture, then I’m all for it. GP seems to have grown a spine and owned up to her responsibilities, unlike curtain hair girl, and I can’t see GP allowing any rumors to grow before squelching them. Angie has nothing to worry about… not that she’s the type who would, anyway.
+++++++++++++++
Dragonfly - Brad is NOT doing Dirty Tricks. It’s scheduled to shoot in November, just like State of Play. And before anyone says he’s shot 2 movies at the same time before - O12 & M&MS - you have to remember that they called a hiatus in the shooting of M&MS in May 2004 so Brad could go to Europe to shoot O12 and then resumed shooting on M&MS in August 2004. So that is NOT shooting two movies at the same time.
Also, Dragonfly - the tabloids would have a field day if this happened, but to that I cackle gleefully. Angie scares the sh#t out of Putrid. When they did Sky Captain together Putrid pretty much admitted that. She said she found Angie “INTIMIDATING”. Some have speculated she meant as an actress, but I think she meant on a personal level! Angie would chop Putrid up and spit her out before she even knew what happened. The ironic thing is that after the movie came out Putrid tried to shine it on like she’d never said that and that she hadn’t actually interacted with Angie much on the set. In other words - she’s a big weenie, all talk, no walk…as Brad can testify to himself.
is brad work with gp?? play husband and wife? is this confirmed?
Hey 234, great thanks - and you? :)
…and frankly dragonfly, re Dirty Tricks, I hope it is just a rumor. I think AJ and Brad (but particularly Angelina) already get enough flack in the tabloids without starting another round of ‘triangle part deaux’ bullsh*t with ridiculous ‘Brad and Gwyn back together again’ headlines - I can see it now, the rags will have Paltry and Brad in a Brady Bunch scenario (His 4 and her 2) with Angie crying on maniston’s (or Chris Martin’s) shoulder before it’s over. :lol Not to mention the fact that besides the gift that would be to the tabloids in general, it would also boost Paltry’s dead-in-the-water popularity and career, something she deserves about as much as Maniston. No need to give yet another one of Huvane’s boring obnoxious narcissistic clients a second life on the back and coattails of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Huvane should give both Brad and angie a cut of the 15% he gets from all those b*tches. Damn. So I hope Brad has some sense, and doesn’t do it.
ComingSoon.net has interviewed British director Michael Winterbottom four times in the past three years though none of those situations might be considered the ideal. The first time was in 2004, when we talked to him over the phone using less than ideal equipment about his sci-fi flick Code 46. Then in 2005, we sat in a room with him, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon to talk about his period comedy Tristram Shandy: A **** and Bull Story–he let his stars do most of the talking. Last year, it was a crowded roundtable of journalists to talk about The Road to Guantanamo.
A Mighty Heart is possibly the director’s most high-profile movie in his eighteen year career, because it follows the investigation surrounding the kidnapping of journalist Daniel Pearl as told in the memoir of his widow Mariane Pearl, who was six months pregnant at the time. Mariane is played by actress Angelina Jolie, who controversially darkened her skin with make-up to appear more like the real Mariane.
ComingSoon.net hoped to have better luck this time, but let’s face it, being one of the most prolific filmmakers of the 21st Century so far, with only Johnny To offering any competition for that title, Winterbottom is a very busy guy, rarely having time to do interviews in the middle of finishing up one movie or starting the next one, and he was especially in demand to talk about this movie.
Sadly, our limited time didn’t give us a chance to ask him about his next project Genova or his third collaboration with Steve Coogan, Murder in Samarkand, also about a real person involved in recent Middle East affairs, but we did get another chance to look into the way this versatile filmmaker works before he had to run.
ComingSoon: Nice talking to you again. I’ve interviewed you four times, more than any other director so far.
Michael Winterbottom: (laughs) Sorry about that.
CS: Well you’ve made a lot of movies since I’ve been doing this.
Winterbottom: That’s true.
CS: Is this movie going to get the widest release of any of your movies?
Winterbottom: Yeah, I think so. I hope so.
CS: I remember talking to you last year for “Guantanamo”…
Winterbottom: Yeah, it was about this time last year I think.
CS: Yeah, that sounds about right, but was this movie already in the works at that time? It really seemed to come from out of nowhere.
Winterbottom: Yeah, I think we started work on it at the beginning of May last year, so yeah, I must have already been working on it. I can’t remember exactly how it worked, but I think I just popped over here for a week during preproduction. I think we’d probably already been to Pakistan and done a little bit, because what happened was we were offered it in April last year, beginning of May, and so I went out to Pakistan to do some research, and we did a little bit of filmmaking straightaway there and some second unit stuff. I think I’d probably already done that by the time I came to America last year.
CS: Well, you kept it a really good secret, because I don’t remember hearing much about it until September when we first saw the photos of Angie as Mariane. How did this come about? I know that the producer knew your work and gave you the book, where did things go from there?
Winterbottom: Yeah, well really. I actually had read the book a couple years earlier–I liked the book–and then the end of April last year, Brad and [ Dede Garnder ] called up and said, “Would you be interested in making it?” so I went and made Mariane in Paris, and then we all went down to Namibia and spent two or three days talking about the film and Mariane’s experiences and then we started making it.
CS: Was Dan Futterman cast fairly early as Daniel Pearl? How did he come onto it?
Winterbottom: I think the very first thing we did was we obviously started working on the script, so I went back and part of that was to meet all the people who were in the house. I think the first thing we did was I went to Pakistan and met the people like Captain, Dost and others in Pakistan. We also looked at the real locations and went round sort of filming in case we couldn’t get back, which is probably why I didn’t talk about it when I was here. I think we were trying to not tell anyone we were doing it for a while, to give ourselves a chance at getting stuff in Pakistan before it became too difficult, too public. So then, we went over to America after that to meet the people in America like the people from the Wall Street Journal and Randal Bennett, all those real people, and at the same time, do some castings. I can’t remember when it was, but basically we did one set of casting and as soon as I met Danny, I really thought he would be the best person for the part.
CS: Did they already have a script for the movie at this time?
Winterbottom: Yeah, but when they called, they said they weren’t really happy with what they had, and they wanted to have another go at it.
CS: So you ended up doing a lot of your own research rather than going with what was in the script?
Winterbottom: Yeah, obviously meeting the people and talking to them, we had all their stories as well as Mariane’s and then a writer called, Lawrence Coriat, that I worked with before on “Wonderland,” and then I just had another go, going back really to try to work on what the chronology of the story was, to make sure it was as factual as we could, to make it as accurate as we could, and that was the process really. Having dialogue that explains and tells you what need to do, we kind of always knew–especially in the house where all the main stuff happens–that we’d be allowing people to improvise around that, so we didn’t start agonizing about exactly what was said here or what was said there, because we knew it was going to be a guide rather than the sort of final dialogue.
CS: Was there anyone who didn’t want to be involved in the making of the movie like the Pakistani police?
Winterbottom: No, one of the things, and it’s kind of part of the story, was that Mariane managed to make all those people who came to the house get closely involved, so they’re part of the team really. She stayed in touch with them, they’re still close, so Captain, for instance, I think he’s Adam’s godfather. She’s really close to him. The fact that Mariane has introduced me meant they were all entirely cooperative.
CS: Did you shoot the flashback scene of Mariane and Daniel very early in the production?
Winterbottom: No, basically we did a little bit of 2nd Unit when we first went to do research, then we spend quite a long time trying to get permissions to film in Pakistan properly. That section of the film we did in July I think, so we brought Danny over to Pakistan, and we did all the Pakistan casting and did all the stuff with the police, really all the exteriors in Pakistan in July, shooting for a couple of weeks, and then we sort of went off and prepared India. We didn’t really shoot Mariane… the first thing we did was all the French flashbacks, which was the wedding, but that was like September. It was early in the sense of Angelina’s shoot, but we had already done the Pakistan first. Basically, we sort of agreed to do it in the beginning of May, and then it was a mix-up between researching, writing and filming all the way through the year. We still were doing a bit of something in March back in Pakistan, so it’s sort of been spread out and mixed up really, rather than being like “This is the filming, this is the prep time.”
CS: So essentially, you were able to shoot a lot of the search and investigation in Pakistan even before you had Angelina shooting anything?
Winterbottom: We wanted to do that partly just because obviously once Angie has started, as you say, that’s when all the publicity comes out. We wanted to get as much done in Pakistan before people were too aware of the project really.
CS: That’s actually pretty smart. A lot of people were talking about movies like “United 93″ and “World Trade Center” being too soon after the events. This movie follows Danny Pearl’s death in the same amount of time, five years, so did anyone you talked to feel it was too soon to tell this story?
Winterbottom: I don’t know. Obviously, Mariane wrote the book maybe three or four years ago, so in a way, this is Mariane’s story. This is a story that takes place in the aftermath of 9/11. It’s clearly a story that could only have happened since 9/11, because Dan and Marian were in Pakistan in order to cover the aftermath of 9/11, but at the same time, it’s Mariane’s story, more even than Danny’s story, and it’s a story about someone who is incredibly strong in a terrible situation. Given that Mariane is comfortable about it being told, I think the key thing really, ’cause it’s her story we’re telling.
CS: I’m not sure how much you’d been reading in various places about perceptions of the movie, but there seems to be somewhat of a stir in the African-American community questioning the fact that you had Angelina playing the role of Mariane with darkened skin, rather than getting someone who already had dark skin such as Thandie Newton or even a Latina actress.
Winterbottom: I can’t really understand that. How would a Latina woman be more like Mariane, who’s French, half Dutch, half Cuban and a quarter Chinese. It just seems incredible generic, like a non-American is somehow more like another non-American than an American, which is kind of bizarre. I mean Angie’s mother is French, but I think the most tricky for Angelina becoming Mariane was the accent, so I think if there was any issue, it would like, “Why not get a French woman to play the part?” But then of course, you got another set of issues, because the whole film is English. From my point of view, I first met Angelina in Namibia and it was with Mariane, and when I got there, they already knew each other and were obviously friends. Mariane trusted Angelina, and apparently–I hadn’t realized it at the time–but Mariane said in France at the press conference in Cannes that she was the person that asked Angelina to play the part. So Mariane thought she was the best person to play the part. It’s really incredibly weird in America that you kind of feel that anyone who’s not American is the same. It’s a very strange thing.
CS: I’m not sure if it’s an American vs. foreign thing. I think it’s more about getting someone less high profile or someone who looks more like Mariane without having to use make-up.
Winterbottom: As I say, from my point of view, it was perfect, because it’s incredibly difficult to tell a story about someone who’s a real person who’s alive. When I got there, they clearly were very similar people, they’re friends and when they talked about, not only about the film or Mariane’s experience, but when then talked about how they see their roles as women and their roles as journalists or actors, they’re very similar people. As I say, Mariane actually wanted Angelina to play the part, so it was perfect.
CS: Did Angie have to stay in the accent or make-up throughout the shoot to be able to stay in character as Mariane?
Winterbottom: Not in that sense, but the way we film is that we have quite short days, we film for about eight hours, but a lot of the time within the day, we’re actually filming. We don’t really light and it’s handheld, it’s very simple and we shoot the whole scene, so we might be filming for like ten minutes, then we stop for a couple minutes, then we film again for ten minutes. Actually, during the day, they’re probably spending more time filming than not filming, so in that sense, she’s obviously in the accent the whole time, but not in the kind of massive way… I’m sure when she went back to Brad, she wasn’t still talking in Mariane’s accent.
CS: You have all this experience shooting in the Mideast and Pakistan and all these places, so has it gotten any easier at this point? Did you have to do any of the guerilla-type shooting that you’ve had to do on some of your previous films?
Winterbottom: In fact, the stuff we did in Pakistan, we just shot the way we always do, so we had a very small crew. First of all, we just ran out–me and the cameraman and a couple other people–and did some general shots of the real places in case we couldn’t go back, but then we were able to get back, so then we took Danny, so all that stuff like hotel bars, the restaurant where he’s kidnapped, all those places are the real places. We just took our actors into real places, into real Pakistan police stations. We were working with the Pakistan police and doing rounds with them, so yeah, all of that was exactly how we normally film, then most of it is really just inside the house, and again, it was a very simple set-up with seven or eight actors, and we shot in chronological order, so we shot for about five weeks. We just began with the day Danny’s kidnapped and gradually worked our way through to the end when Mariane leaves.
CS: As far as working with the authorities, you actually had real policemen in some scenes?
Winterbottom: Yeah, yeah, obviously we were there before and we spent a lot of time talking to people in Islamabad trying to make sure everyone was happy with the idea that we were filming there, and we had a lot of interaction with the Karachi police. The only kind of problem was we had a lot of hassle from the intelligent agencies, the ISI and the other intelligent agencies, so they were always in the hotel, they were always on set filming us and hassling our crew. It did get quite tricky at one point. We sort of had to stop and decide if we were going to leave or just go and do it somewhere else and we were going to tell everyone what kind of place Pakistan is… but then we finally got results. Sorry, I’ve gotta go, but thanks so much.
And just like that, he was gone, off to catch a plane or a train to somewhere else, most likely to start shooting his next movie.
A Mighty Heart opens everywhere on Friday, June 22, and look for more attempts to get Michael Winterbottom to sit down for an interview in the next couple years.
No, I didn’t Estelle. That’s why Porgie cheats on AG! She’s too high rent for him! If she wants to hold on to Porgie she’d better start channeling her inner s-k-a-n-k!
I don’t know if it is confirmed. But if it is true, i hope Angie will be on the set all the time, keep an eye on GP. It appears to me that the marriage between GP and CM is not very well. I heard that CM got very angry when reporters ask him about his famous wife GP. why?????
OReilly comes on at 8 pm eastern time on Fox News.
This rumor showed up on the thread last year. Brad was being considered for a role as an investigative journalist, not John Dean.
Angelina won’t be on the show.
The San Francisco Chronicle always writes hateful articles about her. Not good.
Two points I wanted to bring up. In the Cinematical Interviews, Angelina said she didn’t do comedies because she didn’t think she is funny and so stays away from that. I hope she changes her mind. Personally, I would love to see her do a completely zany, funny character and just let loose.
++++++++++++++++++++
I agree. I would love to see her do a not convencional comedy. Like a wes anderson movie.
Angie did make an unconventional comedy-Pushing Tin-and she was brillant in it. It was dry, sophisticated comedy and one of the funniest movies I’ve seen-I bought the DVD as soon as it came out. Angie was so good because she played her character absolutely seriously-much like she did Jane Smith in MMS. I think that it’s her ability to play such “extraordinary characters” (for want of a better description) without being silly that makes her so good at comedy. And whether she believes herself to be or not she’s very good at comedy.
As for Angie acting goofy or silly in a movie-I don’t think so.
Well, did we really know that she was going on O’Reilly? Someone told us that she was.
At any rate, I’ll probably watch the segment anyway, especially if they’re going to air that lame-ass ambush that Fox tried to execute.
I rather hear about the “Porgie”(who the heck makes up these names?)triangle than the X triangle. So ill jump on this bangwagon. Brad + George= LOVE.
++++++++++++
“Porgie” was a name given to Clooney by someone who used to post here - Gitane - who’s been MIA for the last month or two. It’s from the children’s nursery rhyme “Georgie Porgie”…
Georgie Porgie pudding and pie,
Kissed the girls and made them cry
When the boys came out to play,
Georgie Porgie ran away.
Angelina will be the first story.
I didn’t see any chemistry between Angie and Denzel.
++++++++++++
No, I said Brad for chemistry. Denzel as the most talented actor Angie’s ever worked with. I’m not counting De Niro, who’s a fcuking God as far as I’m concerned, because she really didn’t work with him that much in front of the camera.
Angelina won’t be on the show.
Good news PT, re Dirty Tricks then. Hope that’s the case.
I can see how O’Really is setting this up, he’s so f**king OBVIOUS. He will have an evil SF Chronicle Reporter on to continue the Jolie bashing, while he puts on a facade of being restraine, tempered, and ‘balanced.’ Hahaha! What a pantload.
Fox News suck. ..and if Angelina and her peeps didn’t ban them, then they f**king should have.
If it doesn’t go down JUST the way I say, I will eat my cyber hat.
She wasn’t even on they ambushed her on the streets of NYC. lol She already answered that stupid Question on TDS anyway.
Bait, bait, bait, bait, bait, bait.
Trolls are working hard to try and keep a certain network in the news!
Don’t fall for it —- they have an agenda and we all know it!
ugh. she talk to ac bout same things she talked last time. who cares about sierra leone!
Bill O’reilly is a hoker. He got on his soapbox to ho out FOX news. He called Angelina an ultra liberal but there was no interview so far. They just used that tape where a Fox reporter asked Angelina why she banned Foz News. She explained that she didn’t and that was that. LMAO. I doubt there is anymore. Fox is all about the gotcha new but guess what, the gotcha was egg on FOX
Piper - I always thought that once people knew MP gave Angelina her blessing to play the role, that should’ve been the end of it. It wasn’t. However…when people found out that MP ASKED Angeline to play her? Then that really should’ve been the last nail in the coffin. The fact that people disrespected MP annoyed the crap out of me. If she doesn’t care that a “white woman” who’s 1/8 Iroquios played her in the movie of her life, then why should anyone else object?
Thank you for your post, The Stranger. I enjoyed reading it and will look forward to watching the movie.
No bashing of Angelina. OReilly use the tape outside of TDS in which Angelina said she was not trying to ban Fox and that her people have apologize for any misunderstanding. OReilly said we’ll take her word that she was not trying to ban Fox but there are others that are.
OReilly is now arguing with the Diaz about his editoral on OReilly and the US border.
Who’s going to be the brave fan who watchs angelina getting slaughter on O’reilly and gives a recap?
Come on JP Fans, Angie was never invited to that show!
Why are some playing into the trolls hands?
222 George “the PIG” Clooney SUCKS!! | 06/18/2007 at 7:13 pm
So BAMPZS fans don’t be fool with George Clooney because is NOT a nice guy and he is trying to cause trouble between Brad and Angie!! YES!! George is very very JEALOUS of Angelina!! So don’t defend George; because he is NOT a nice guy!!
++++++++++++++++
Dude…why are you telling us? What are we supposed to do? The most we can do is laugh at your posts. Go talk to Brad!
244 Passing Through | 06/18/2007 at 7:34 pm
Yopu got it on the point that GP is intimidated by Angie, I am sure of that. I guess I am just so ready for the X angle to be gone from Brad & Angie’s relationship (and for her to get off their coat tails) that I am willing to trade a GP angle for it…now that’s bad, isn’t it? haha!! Cuz, as you said, Angie would hand Gwennie her ass on a silver-plated platter, so I ain’t worried.
And as you guys say, it isn’t confirmed, and the more you guys ring in with more info on the topic, the more I’m convinced it isn’t going to happen. Heck, Angie and BBT are on good terms, but do I think she would open up the proverbial can of worms by playing *hiiis* wife in a movie. No. So Brad probably doesn;t want to go there, either. Been there, had that, moved on to better stuff.
And Cliniqua, you’re right, why give another Huvane client a boost courtesy of Brad and Angie? The more I listen to you guys, the less likely it seems Brad would touch it.
It will always be one angle or another from the tabloids, as B&A are just too charismatic.
I dont think Brad cares about Angelina’s feelings so I wouldn’t put it past him to star in a movie where he plays Gwyneths husband.
O’Reilly did extend an invitation last Friday when he did his 2 minute segment with Roger Friedman. He said she is always welcome to be on the show. He has no reason to hate on some 32 year old actress who is a humanitarian. If he starts the hate, she’ll tie him up and kick him in his a s s Mr. And Mrs. Smith style.
US weekly has a picture of “what if Jen had played Mariane Pearl” the pic looks horrible. Also, Us film critic Thelma Adams think Jen doesn’t have the range to play Mariane
+++++++++++++++
Two comments -
1. US has a film critic?
2. No sh#t Sherlock. I hope she works for free because the donkey from Shrek could’ve told the world that X “doesn’t have the range to play Mariane.”
Lady G (276), well where were you when we were all freaking out an hour ago? We could have used you! :-) I fell for it. But I’m relieved, and while I won’t EAT my cyber hat, will lick the brim. LMAO
Bottomline, at the end of the day - it’s press for the movie. I hope this movie blows the f**k up, even on the small number of screens it will be on. The per screen average I am willing to bet - will beat even the biggest films out there.
Angelina is much better than george. Clooney is the one leaking all those quotes to the tabloids and Ted casablanca. He doesn\’t like angelina and has been very chatty about it (I\’m not talking about that stupid joke he made on cannes). Brad knows but ignores it.
You are lying. I have heard George say nothng but good things about Angie. He likes Angie. He also likes Brad and Angie being together.
Winterbottom: We wanted to do that partly just because obviously once Angie has started, as you say, that’s when all the publicity comes out. We wanted to get as much done in Pakistan before people were too aware of the project really.
CS: That’s actually pretty smart. A lot of people were talking about movies like “United 93″ and “World Trade Center” being too soon after the events. This movie follows Danny Pearl’s death in the same amount of time, five years, so did anyone you talked to feel it was too soon to tell this story?
Winterbottom: I don’t know. Obviously, Mariane wrote the book maybe three or four years ago, so in a way, this is Mariane’s story. This is a story that takes place in the aftermath of 9/11. It’s clearly a story that could only have happened since 9/11, because Dan and Marian were in Pakistan in order to cover the aftermath of 9/11, but at the same time, it’s Mariane’s story, more even than Danny’s story, and it’s a story about someone who is incredibly strong in a terrible situation. Given that Mariane is comfortable about it being told, I think the key thing really, ’cause it’s her story we’re telling.
CS: I’m not sure how much you’d been reading in various places about perceptions of the movie, but there seems to be somewhat of a stir in the African-American community questioning the fact that you had Angelina playing the role of Mariane with darkened skin, rather than getting someone who already had dark skin such as Thandie Newton or even a Latina actress.
Winterbottom: I can’t really understand that. How would a Latina woman be more like Mariane, who’s French, half Dutch, half Cuban and a quarter Chinese. It just seems incredible generic, like a non-American is somehow more like another non-American than an American, which is kind of bizarre. I mean Angie’s mother is French, but I think the most tricky for Angelina becoming Mariane was the accent, so I think if there was any issue, it would like, “Why not get a French woman to play the part?” But then of course, you got another set of issues, because the whole film is English. From my point of view, I first met Angelina in Namibia and it was with Mariane, and when I got there, they already knew each other and were obviously friends. Mariane trusted Angelina, and apparently–I hadn’t realized it at the time–but Mariane said in France at the press conference in Cannes that she was the person that asked Angelina to play the part. So Mariane thought she was the best person to play the part. It’s really incredibly weird in America that you kind of feel that anyone who’s not American is the same. It’s a very strange thing.
CS: I’m not sure if it’s an American vs. foreign thing. I think it’s more about getting someone less high profile or someone who looks more like Mariane without having to use make-up.
Winterbottom: As I say, from my point of view, it was perfect, because it’s incredibly difficult to tell a story about someone who’s a real person who’s alive. When I got there, they clearly were very similar people, they’re friends and when they talked about, not only about the film or Mariane’s experience, but when then talked about how they see their roles as women and their roles as journalists or actors, they’re very similar people. As I say, Mariane actually wanted Angelina to play the part, so it was perfect.
CS: Did Angie have to stay in the accent or make-up throughout the shoot to be able to stay in character as Mariane?
Winterbottom: Not in that sense, but the way we film is that we have quite short days, we film for about eight hours, but a lot of the time within the day, we’re actually filming. We don’t really light and it’s handheld, it’s very simple and we shoot the whole scene, so we might be filming for like ten minutes, then we stop for a couple minutes, then we film again for ten minutes. Actually, during the day, they’re probably spending more time filming than not filming, so in that sense, she’s obviously in the accent the whole time, but not in the kind of massive way… I’m sure when she went back to Brad, she wasn’t still talking in Mariane’s accent.
CS: You have all this experience shooting in the Mideast and Pakistan and all these places, so has it gotten any easier at this point? Did you have to do any of the guerilla-type shooting that you’ve had to do on some of your previous films?
Winterbottom: In fact, the stuff we did in Pakistan, we just shot the way we always do, so we had a very small crew. First of all, we just ran out–me and the cameraman and a couple other people–and did some general shots of the real places in case we couldn’t go back, but then we were able to get back, so then we took Danny, so all that stuff like hotel bars, the restaurant where he’s kidnapped, all those places are the real places. We just took our actors into real places, into real Pakistan police stations. We were working with the Pakistan police and doing rounds with them, so yeah, all of that was exactly how we normally film, then most of it is really just inside the house, and again, it was a very simple set-up with seven or eight actors, and we shot in chronological order, so we shot for about five weeks. We just began with the day Danny’s kidnapped and gradually worked our way through to the end when Mariane leaves.
CS: As far as working with the authorities, you actually had real policemen in some scenes?
Winterbottom: Yeah, yeah, obviously we were there before and we spent a lot of time talking to people in Islamabad trying to make sure everyone was happy with the idea that we were filming there, and we had a lot of interaction with the Karachi police. The only kind of problem was we had a lot of hassle from the intelligent agencies, the ISI and the other intelligent agencies, so they were always in the hotel, they were always on set filming us and hassling our crew. It did get quite tricky at one point. We sort of had to stop and decide if we were going to leave or just go and do it somewhere else and we were going to tell everyone what kind of place Pakistan is… but then we finally got results. Sorry, I’ve gotta go, but thanks so much.
Don’t know if you’re a hater or not, but Bill O’Reilly basically said that often times than not, liberals opt to listen to liberals’ interpretations of what he said, resulting in unjustified bias. He questioned whether Angelina was one of the victims of this brainwashing. They showed the clip; she mentioned the memo, noted that it was excessive, and that her staff has apologized for it. Bill O’Reilly then said that he’ll take her at her word and noted that he liked Angelina very much. He then went after the San Francisco Chronicle which apparently used a liberal’s interpretation of his quote about immigration.
Bill O tore into that guy, not Angelina. Besides, he was probably saving his teeth for another story about a judge who gave light sentences to pedophilles.
i don’t understand why AMH is not released in every theatre in US. I just check the theatre closest to my home to play AMH is 12 miles away. Damn it. anyway, i will go see it.
Angelina did not do anything wrong. She did not ban Fox, why would you worry about her. Brad and Angie are also going on vacation after Brad finishes his latest project. Brad and Angie are not as stupid as some people want to believe, I don’t believe for a second he’s playing GP’s husband. If he does, he has Angie’s blessings but I don’t believe that. Angie is also always on the set with him.
So, Angie wasn’t on O’Reilly? Thank God.
The beaoch didnt even read the book until she shagged the producer for the role. You nutbags would turn on your 1st born if they said they didnt like Brad & angie.
Why doesnt it bother you to be known as a loonies and know that everyone is laughing at you but it bothers you to read someones opinion bout someone you dont know and never will?
Angelina, I’m sure did justice as playing Mariane Pearl in A Mighty Heart, Mariane said that herself. Whatever color of your skin, white, black, yellow or brown, we are all the same in the eyes of God. Some people said, Ange is too white to be Mariane Pearl in AMH movie, that’s not the point, it’s how Ange potrays the character & make it more realistic, she is a good actress & this maybe another award under her name. Brad, & Ange wants to spread the word & tell story about Danny & Mariane Pearl, it’s not for them to make money. Iam definitely going to see the movie.
This rumor showed up on the thread last year. Brad was being considered for a role as an investigative journalist, not John Dean.
++++++++++++++++
I’ve always heard he was set to play John Dean, not the journalist. That’s too close too Redford in “All the President’s Men”. It’s a moot issue - Brad’s not in the movie, he’s just producing it. I really can’t see him WANTING to work with Putrid again after the cr@p she pulled on him. They are on friendly business terms, but acting opposite each other as husband and wife? Nah. As we’ve been saying - when Brad’s done with a relationship he doesn’t look back.
Don’t pay attention to the negative comments. Don’t repeat them.
This weekend should be all positive for AMH. Tab repoters are here.
Haters here are not worth to argue with.
**** Scrolling over all the Clooney BS nonstory gtabbed from a baby’s loaded diaper ***
Angelina was not on The O’Reilly Factor.
the newsweek article is great.
Damn!! The haters are so hopless that they have nothing else to do than bringing back old rumors.LMAO!!
George hates Angie?? Angie will be in Fox News and Brad will be in a movie with Paltrow?? LMAO!!!!
Don’t you people have some better bullsh*t to plant?? You sound so ridicoulus that not even the rags will bother to write any of that.
And the most sad part is that some are buying all of it.Grow a brain people!!
Oh Yeah, i forgot that GP is Huvane client!! Okey, now i’m more worry about this; because if Brad do the movie with GP…. Huvane is going to create a NEW TRIANGLE in the tabloids to give GP publicity!!
Thanks for the interview JJ, nice photo: she shines, love her smile…
Comingsoon: I like Winterbottom´s interview. Thanks.
Re Brad & Dirty Trick…
Red-hot “Nip/Tuck” creator Ryan Murphy suddenly has Hollywood at his feet, and he’s using his newfound clout to push forward several projects — including the star-studded political satire “Dirty Tricks.”
Listing a cast that includes Meryl Streep, Annette Bening and Gwyneth Paltrow, the writer/director also revealed who’ll be playing the president in his movie about the behind-the-scenes women of the Watergate scandal. “Jim Broadbent is going to play Nixon,” he said of the “Iris” Oscar winner.
In addition, Murphy has coerced a longtime supporter into a star-powered role. “I’m talking to Brad [Pitt]; he’s producing it and I’m like, ‘Well, you’ve got to play Maureen Dean’s husband [John] — you have to play him.’ ”
Murphy added that he and Pitt — a producer on Murphy’s “Running With Scissors,” due in theaters later this month — find the Nixon/Dean story particularly relevant today. “It’s so applicable to [now]. It’s about a woman who basically says, ‘This government is corrupt. This government is not correct.’ Meryl is Martha Mitchell, and that’s what she did to Nixon, and I thought, ‘That’s so timely.’ ”
Murphy is currently developing the film and targeting additional actors.
Bill O’reilly is a hoker. He got on his soapbox to ho out FOX news. He called Angelina an ultra liberal but there was no interview so far. They just used that tape where a Fox reporter asked Angelina why she banned Foz News. She explained that she didn’t and that was that. LMAO. I doubt there is anymore. Fox is all about the gotcha new but guess what, the gotcha was egg on FOX
+++++++++++++++++++
Like everyone else O’Reilly used the public’s interest in Angelina to sell his show. I tuned in for about 2 minutes and it was obvious Angie wasn’t going to be on, so I turned the channel. Thank God I don’t have a Nielsen box in my home.
We have to see AMH, I hear Angie gave an Oscar worthy performance.
Ah, so this must be the source of the rumor….sounds like a case of wishful thinking on Murphy’s part that caused the talk to start. Brad hasn’t said a word, so I don’t buy it unless I hear it from Brad himself, which is extremely doubtful.
Sorry for falling for it, you guys, haha!!
Well that’s how this stupid rumor started. Brad is just producing the film. He hasn’t sighed to play any role in it. There is not a sigle comfirmation. The director was just thinking loudly.
But everyone took his words as the Gospel. Something that it wouldn’t have happend if Paltrow’s name wasn’t in the cast.
When Is Angelina gonna be on the CBS show?
she’s really doing her best to promote this film. they really work hard and put up with a lot.
Of course. Brad is the producer!!!!, if this movie doesn’t work they don’t make money and so how can they buy others luxury houses, ducati, take fly lessons etc. etc…….
+++++++++++++
Let’s see…they can always use some of the $20MIL+20% of the gross that Brad is getting for O13. Or some of the $17.5MIL that Angie is getting for Wanted. Or how about some of the $20MIL+20% of the gross Brad is getting for CCOBB. Or maybe they’ll dip into their person fortunes - Brad’s worth over $150MIL, Angie at about $50MIL. They can probably pay for the items you mentioned above off the INTEREST on the money they already have. Meanwhile, you’re going to be getting your eviction notice from your landlord because you didn’t pay the rent because you spent all your money on your DSL connection so you could b#tch about 2 millionaires who’s shoes you’ll never be able to afford.
can you do a recap of the article?
If I were Paltrow I would be mortified to work with Brad. After the way she treated him she must be ashamed to speak with him much less face him in person. IMO If she’s smart she would do everything not to work with him. It would set her up for humiliation the same way it is for Aniston now. Aniston is living a nightmare as her name is dragged to anything and everything Brad & Angelina. It’s like she really does not exist and has no identity on her own. Just terrible that these women were Brad’s has beens. and to compare them to Angelina is like ….let me try to do an homage to Passing Through……Comparing Paltrow and Aniston to Angelina is like comparing dog food (Paltrow & Aniston) to Kobe Steak (Angelina). I would be mortfied.
These are my thoughts if they were actually doing a film but we all know they are not.
BY TERRY LAWSON
If British director Michael Winterbottom is, as he was once called by England’s national newspaper the Guardian, “the best-kept secret in cinema,” it is in part because he has, save a couple of exceptions, worked well outside the studio system. Which means “without the input of the sort of marquee, box-office-ensuring names the studios require to finance projects.”
That method, which Winterbottom says has served him exceedingly well as a filmmaker, could have been altered considerably with the release of his latest film ” A Mighty Heart.”
Advertisement
The movie was inspired by Mariane Pearl’s best-selling memoir of the life and death of her husband, Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter kidnapped and executed by terrorists in Afghanistan. It was produced by Brad Pitt and stars Angelina Jolie as Mariane Pearl.
“It was such a powerful story, I think I would have seriously considered making it no matter who was in it,” Winterbottom says. He was given a copy of Mariane Pearl’s book by one of Pitt’s partners in the production company Plan B in 2004.
“But after having an initial conversation about it with Brad, I felt fairly certain our ideas about how the story should be told were in synch. I think one of the reasons they thought of me initially was because they had pretty definite ideas about how the story should be told. If it was to be a movie about journalists, then it should be told journalistically. Then there was the fact that I knew my way around the territory.”
“I met with Brad, Angelina and Mariane together in Namibia soon after that, and seeing Angelina with Mariane assured me that she was the right person for the part. That was that, we were shooting very shortly after,” he says.
Winterbottom was also involved in the casting of Dan Futterman as Daniel Pearl, and admits it was not only the fact that Futterman is an accomplished actor with a decided resemblance to Daniel Pearl that sold him.
“I thought the screenplay Dan wrote for ‘Capote’ was one of the most perceptive examinations ever about journalism and journalists. Obviously, he knew how to think like a reporter, and I thought that was critical for anyone who would be playing Danny Pearl.
“The story itself is so inherently dramatic, this six-months pregnant woman in a foreign country, trying to hold herself together and be actively involved in the investigation, trying to do whatever it takes to save her husband’s life — I mean, what you really want to do is tell it with authenticity and authority, not with any sort of action or suspense movie contrivances. This is about the people involved, the love and respect Mariane and Danny had for each other, their faith in each other as people and reporters, the future they may or may not have together.”
“As it happened, Michael and his crew were so used to shooting the way they do, without all the usual movie crew machinery… In the end, I didn’t really think much about it, because Michael and the others made those of us in the cast who didn’t live there feel comfortable in their hands. We could concentrate on the characters.”
Winterbottom says “A Mighty Heart” seeks not to definitely solve the crime or assign blame, only to accurately depict what occurred, as Mariane Pearl saw it and felt it. To that end, he chose not to depict the horrific murder, ending the re-creation of the video after Daniel Pearl is heard speaking his final words: “My father is Jewish. My mother is Jewish. I am Jewish.”
“I’ve never watched what happened after that and don’t need to,” says Winterbottom. “That’s all we need to know.”
The reason why most of us who dislike Jolie are on this blog is because it is a public blog and we may not like her but if she does or says something that sparks our opinion it is our perogrative to voice that opinion on a public blog just like it is your right to say how perfect she is on a public blog. Just because we don’t like her doesnt mean we can’t share our opinion of her.
On Angelina playing Marianne:
As a black woman and an aspiring actress this issue is actually important to me. I know as many of you do the struggle black people, especially black women have had in the entertainment business. History shows us how hard it has been to get a foot in the door in Hollywood for non-white actors. Minorities including gays and lesbians will always have to work that much harder to get parts in all media genres because Hollywood is still run by white men. Even white women will experience discrimination because of their age. When was the last time you saw a leading female co-star be the same age as a her male counterpart? I must admit that I was a little bothered by Angelina portraying Marianne. Then I considered the fact that Marianne is not a black woman. She is of mixed race. How can Thandie Newton be upset (if that’s even true) that Angelina is playing Marianne when she herself is of mixed race. Yes a person of brown skin can not easily deny the darker complected contributor to their blood, but what of the lighter part? Should Halle Berry never be able to portray a role originally written for a white woman? Berry’s mother is white. Should we ask her to deny that part of her? That’s what people are asking Marianne to do. Minorities have to be careful of what battles we fight because with this particular issue we are pigeon-holing not only Marianne but ourselves. Think of it from the other side. What about roles where a white person was intended to play the part, but because we showed incredible acting ability our race was not considered and the role was won by a black actor. That is a triump. I think it is naive to believe that Hollywood will ever be color blind. Its hard to get folks to pay to see a movie where the leading man is a man of color if his leading lady is not. That is the world we live in right now and hopefully that will change. This issue with Marianne might even be the catalyst. I want actors to be able to come out of the closet and still be able to be leading men and women. Could you imagine the world of cinema if a casting director didn’t have to consider race or sexual orientation and could cast the best actor for the performance. Films and television would be so much better for it and the efforts of both Angelina and Marianne might get us this much closer to realizing it. We just have to be willing to let them.
Brad and Gwyneth doing a movie…it would be hilarious if Karma bit Angie in the rear and Brad and Gwyneth started up their romance again. KARMA
In this video, Angie is insanely beautiful and sexy. I have never seen anybody more beautiful than her. She just takes your breath away. You have to see this one.
You make movies without huge stars and here you have Angelina Jolie, one of the most famous women in the world, starring in this movie. Was it weird?
A Obviously, Angelina is one of the famous people you can think of. But I have to say in all honesty, from my point of view the whole thing was made easier by the fact that Angelina was in it. Angelina already knew Mariane. Angelina wanted to play the part. Mariane wanted Angelina to play the part. They’re very similar in lots of ways, in terms of how they saw the world and what they wanted to do in the world. And of course there were loads of paparazzi trying to get photos of Angie, it’s true. But she was fantastic on the set. I know this sounds boring, but she was so low-key. From the beginning Angelina was very conscious of her position. She brought all the different people in the cast and crew together. She was great with everyone. She said, “I’m going to be the Mariane of the set.”
75 HA
I loved her and Denzel in The Bone Collector. I thought they had great chemistry together. Denzel’s being in the wheelchair made it even more potent. Luv that movie. Peace.
The biggest problem with all of you who dislike Jolie is that you are not expressing an opinion but pure evil and hate and that’s a big difference. Nobody can be likeable to everybody but nobody can insult or judge someone like if she where a merderer. Especially when you don’t even know a person.
I have no problem if someone is indifferent or dosen’t like someone that I like but at least find a more decent reason to dislike her than that “she stole Jen’s husband”…
Why doesnt it bother you to be known as a loonies and know that everyone is laughing at you but it bothers you to read someones opinion bout someone you dont know and never will?
____________
LOL. It doesn’t bother me that you or anyone else on the internet is laughing at me or think that I’m a LOONIE. Why should I? Who are you?
It doesn’t bother me that nasty things are written about Brad and Angelina. They are going from strength to strength.
What does bother me is LOOSIES like you who hate so vehemently. When 9/11 happened, I wondered what was going on in the minds of these terrorists who for all intents and purposes, gave every outward appearance of normality. They had their families. They chatted to their neighbours. And all the time, they were capable of executing horrible acts of violence.
Then I started following Brad and Angelina’s story and I finally understood how the terrorists think.
See, Terrorists have a mentality like yours. Terrorists are terrorists because there is a lot of hate and anger in them. They hate the west and they perhaps, in particular, they hate Americans. They don’t want to see the good things that America has brought to the world. It is after all, American drug companies that produce most of the drugs that saves the lives of their own children. It is after all, American companies that have led the way with innovation in every field of endeavour in the 20th century that have benefited many of these Americans. To them American’s can do nothing right because of their hate. And if a few or several or even better many many innocent people were to DIE or be hurt by their hateful actions, do you think these terrorists care. NO. Terrorists don’t think of children orphaned. Parents going through the pain of having to bury their children. It might even make terrorists feel happy to cause the suffering amongst these hateful American people.
Same with the LOOSIES like you. You’ll never know Brad and Angelina. Yet, at every opportunity you want to criticise and whine about them. If they do humanitarian work, you say that they are doing it for selfish motives. If they carry their children, you say they are doing it for PR. You hope for Brad and Angelina to break up and suffere pain. You LOOSIES hate so much you don’t even care that innocent children will be hurt if Brad and Angelina were to break up. So, Brad and Angelina can never do anything right to you, just like Americans can never do anything right to a terrorist.
So Forgive me if I don’t see a fundamental difference in the feelings and way of thinking between a LOOSIE like you and a Terrorist. The only difference I hope, is in the degree of hate and anger, and what you do about your hate. I assume you don’t hate as much as a terrorist and the way you deal with your hate is to sit on your b u m and write vitriol about people you don’t know and will never know.
So, I’m not bothered by what you write as much as I’m bothered by the fact that you and I co-habit this earth together. And I know, because of the anonymity afforded by the internet blogs that what you write reflects the deepest black in your soul.
Here’s my theory on Ted C:
Ted C. was making a lot of jokes at Ryan Seacrest’s expense right after Seacrest started working for E! After a very short while Ted’s on-air spot disappeared without anyone being told in advance, including Ted. That same week Ted announced that his contract with E! wasn’t going to be renewed when it came due in June 2007. No further explanation, but the jabs at Seacrest stopped. Now, all of this happened last summer and I don’t read Ted’s columns every week, so if he’s given updates on the situation please let me know. But there has been a discernable change in his demeanor lately, he’s been less professional and concerned about his reputation as a “journalist.” He previously always took pains to let it be known when he was right and didn’t want to pedict things he wasn’t really sure of. I’m certainly not saying that he was often right, but now he doesn’t seem to care either way and just throws things out there. I really knew something was up when he did a “hotie or notie’ sidebar on Angie-I think she was wearing the dress from the TGS New York premiere. He praised her as a hotie but at the end wrote(not a quote) that he was begrudgingly being nice to her this time, but she shouldn’t expect it in the future. It read like a declaration of war. I had never heard him do anything like that before. And it especially surprized me because, for the most part, he had been reasonable and even complimentary towards B&A before.
So my theory? Ted’s being allowed to keep his column in exchange for towing the E! party line. That is-make it into a tabloid column. And go negative on Brad & Angie.
The reason why most of us who dislike Jolie are on this blog is because it is a public blog and we may not like her but if she does or says something that sparks our opinion it is our perogrative to voice that opinion on a public blog just like it is your right to say how perfect she is on a public blog. Just because we don’t like her doesnt mean we can’t share our opinion of her.
************************************
She ain’t perfect that’s why we like her. But more importantly it’s not cute to clog up this board known for the latest accurate information used by all media with immature rants. There are other places that appreciate your type of commentary. Go there.
There is nothing wrong with trying to keep a blog clean and respected. JJ is only 25 but he’s 100 times more mature than the other bloggers. You could own a coffee shop open to the public but you would not tolerate a bunch of vandals coming through your business. get it?
