Angelina Jolie - “Newsweek” Interview
Angelina Jolie opens up to Newsweek about her experience filming A Mighty Heart in India.
On her bodyguards calling “bloody Indians” and “bloody Muslims” at a Muslim school: “People advised me that this movie was politically dangerous. I thought maybe I shouldn’t touch this. Maybe it would do more harm than good.”
On going from being the most famous star in India to its most famous racist: “We’ve become so eager to accuse people of being racist, but I would rather they make up almost any other story—about me sleeping with someone, anything—but that. It’s not only a crazy accusation, but it’s the most insulting thing you could say about me, that I would employ someone who would be disrespectful to someone’s race or would harm a child. They take care of my kids.”
On the situation having gone too far: “People can just hate back and forth, and I understand my own country’s irresponsibility with our foreign policy sometimes, but can’t we please try to be open-minded, and see that there are some of us who are trying?”
On traveling being her saving grace: “Yeah, I did have my wild times. [laughs] When I was famous for being just an actress, my life felt very shallow. You’ve done nothing of any social relevance, and yet you have all these people interviewing you. You don’t even know what you’re talking about. You’re just trying to find yourself. [pauses] Traveling really did save me. I was just … happier. It was feeling that I was doing the right things with my life.”
On having more children: “We want to have as big a family as we can. Our only restriction is making sure we have time for everybody, and we’re finding that we have the ability to do that.” (Brad Pitt adds: “Yeaaahhh, we do things in extremes. But I’ve always embraced big changes, and this feels very natural. It’s just the most fun I’ve ever had.”)
On what matters to her the most: “People can question your choices, accuse you of things, but your real work and your integrity will [win] out. All that matters is if I build a strong family, if I’m able to do my advocacy work and if my children are happy.”

Sigh….”WE” is a beautiful word is it not?
Thanks for the interview Jared.
Two points I wanted to bring up. In the Cinematical Interviews, Angelina said she didn’t do comedies because she didn’t think she is funny and so stays away from that. I hope she changes her mind. Personally, I would love to see her do a completely zany, funny character and just let loose.
Second, I was happy to read that Ed Norton was at the after party for the Premiere of A Mighty Heart. He was there for the “God Grew Tired of Us” premiere too. Seems like he sneaks in and doesn’t let the photographers catch him but we always read about him being at events with Brad and Angelina. I think it’s really sweet how Brad and Ed have managed to stay friends all these years. I know every one talks about George Clooney being friends with Brad, but I feel Brad and Ed have the more genuine friendshi.
Oh, and remember the Pen!s song??? LOL. I think those two (Ed and Brad) probably are closer than Brad and Clooney.
she’s awesome! it was never about her beauty for me. she has always been beautiful but it wasn’t after she joined the UN that i can’t take my eyes off of her. i admire her for what she does and i admire her for her tenacity to do good despite the never ending criticisms, makes it that much harder for her to fight for the causes she strongly believes in.
If what you say is true and Brad knows and ignores it, he is a bigger ass than I thought

King of cool George does it all the time. He really thinks he is Hollywood favorite son. Brad is doing the right thing. Why get into a fight with george? not worth it.
anyone notice that Aniston’s agent had no comment about whether she was ever seriously going to play Marianne pearl. Yeah, he can comment on not having plastic surgery(yeah right) and whether or not she is dating a camera man..but cant be bothered to set the record straight about this! Of course that wouldnt be in her best interest, now would it?
I enjoyed the interview too.
My problem is that while Black actresses and other actresses of color are working under a disadvantage in HW, I resent the fact that some special interests would try to hijack this film, specifically the role of Mariane, without any qualifications except color.
It is entirely possible that some actresses of color contacted Mariane; and maybe, read the book. But if they didn’t earn her trust on an enterprise she was already leery about, then game over.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a professional honorary organization composed of over 6,500 filmmakers whose achievements have placed them at the top of their craft.
Membership in the Academy is by invitation of the Board of Governors and is limited to those who have distinguished themselves in the arts and sciences of motion pictures. The criteria for admittance include: a body of work in motion pictures that reflects the high standards of the Academy, an achievement of unique distinction, or the making of an outstanding contribution to the film arts or sciences.
A candidate for membership in the Academy is normally sponsored by at least two members of the branch for which the person may qualify. Each proposed member must first receive the favorable endorsement of the appropriate branch executive committee before his or her name is submitted to the Board of Governors for its approval. Individuals nominated for Academy Awards® who are not already members of the Academy are considered for membership without the need for sponsors.
The Board of Governors also may invite individuals to become members-at-large and associate members. Members-at-large are those engaged in motion picture production, but for whose craft there is no separate branch. They have all the privileges of branch membership except for representation on the Board. Associate members are those closely allied to the industry but not actively engaged in motion picture production. They are not represented on the Board and do not vote on Academy Awards

40 Hello!

I think you are really sick. there is no way Angie will like George. George doesn’t like kids. only this, he is out of picture. and besides, Angie has the best man in the planet. Brad is the man of her dreams. get it.
“a soft news icon commanding respect in a hard news world”
This article was very insightful in explaining what is so different about Angelina, and why she’s such a “perfect storm” for the media.
I often make excuses (to myself) for my outright admiration of Brad and Angelina by saying they are socially conscious. But truthfully I’m a romantic and I just plain love them!
Wow, I think Brad has found his soulmate. he sure found the mother of his children.
Two points I wanted to bring up. In the Cinematical Interviews, Angelina said she didn’t do comedies because she didn’t think she is funny and so stays away from that. I hope she changes her mind. Personally, I would love to see her do a completely zany, funny character and just let loose.
++++++++++++++++++++
I agree. I would love to see her do a not convencional comedy. Like a wes anderson movie.
When Is Angelina gonna be on the CBS show?
she’s really doing her best to promote this film. they really work hard and put up with a lot.
Such an amazing woman, not only does she have beauty and brains, she has a big heart full of love. I hope she never stops acting, I would like to see her in movies for the rest of my life.
if Brad is IGNORING the fact that George doesn’t like Angelina… well, that makes Brad an ASS & JERK!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Frenchy, anon, Sharon and ntt for your answers.
I was just curious to find out how that works. I know Angie does not care so much about an oscar she already has one.
That you very much!!!
Thanks for the article. Have read it before. Like it because it’s not tabs.
Jared you should add the link of the marianne pearl interview, also on newsweek.
If someone is ignoring that tabloids lie and make stuff up all the time, then that makes that person an ASS & JERK.
I would love to see Brad and Angelina as a modern day Nick and Nora Charles from the Thin Man series. How likely is it that these two will ever star again opposite each other in a film? I think I need to watch MMS again. LOL!!!

well said.
ok, it’s a national enquirer people….another tabloid needs to have Brad and Angie to sell their magazine.
Dede Gardner
Even after six years, Jolie is suspected of being a dilettante, a “celebrity tourist” to global crises. It’s a charge that irritates those closest to her. “What would she have to do to prove that she’s sincere?” says Pitt’s producing partner, Dede Gardner. “Should she give more money? More time? It’s a black-hole debate. When people judge anyone’s sincerity, I just think, ‘Oh, yeah? What are you doing?’”
Collin Powell
Her work with refugees is not something to decorate herself. She studies the issues.” Powell has spoken with Jolie several times over the years, and they’ve been honored together at benefits for refugee causes. There is, he says, no sanctimony about her. “For her, it’s not about saving the world, it’s about saving kids,” he says. “She doesn’t need this. This needed her.”

Thank you Dede Gardner, Thank you Colin Powel, Thank you both, God bless your mighty hearts!!!!
And as usual…Jared, you’re the best.
Great article! She is an amazing woman. So full of compassion and caring for others. She goes through so much and yet doesn’t let it get her down.
A great interview on a fab person. U go, Angie!
Thanks Jared u 2 sweet!:)
Hey, remember that Angelina & Maddox didn’t waved at George when Brad was doing the Entertainment weekly interview with him??
I really think Angie and George didn’t like each other!! And if Brad is ignoring this… Brad is a jerk!!!!!
Who’s the best leading man that Angelina has worked with? I love Brad but gotta say Denzel Washington in The Bone Collector.
Good interview by the way.
