OlderAngelina Jolie - “Newsweek” Interview
Angelina Jolie opens up to Newsweek about her experience filming A Mighty Heart in India.
On her bodyguards calling “bloody Indians” and “bloody Muslims” at a Muslim school: “People advised me that this movie was politically dangerous. I thought maybe I shouldn’t touch this. Maybe it would do more harm than good.”
On going from being the most famous star in India to its most famous racist: “We’ve become so eager to accuse people of being racist, but I would rather they make up almost any other story—about me sleeping with someone, anything—but that. It’s not only a crazy accusation, but it’s the most insulting thing you could say about me, that I would employ someone who would be disrespectful to someone’s race or would harm a child. They take care of my kids.”
On the situation having gone too far: “People can just hate back and forth, and I understand my own country’s irresponsibility with our foreign policy sometimes, but can’t we please try to be open-minded, and see that there are some of us who are trying?”
On traveling being her saving grace: “Yeah, I did have my wild times. [laughs] When I was famous for being just an actress, my life felt very shallow. You’ve done nothing of any social relevance, and yet you have all these people interviewing you. You don’t even know what you’re talking about. You’re just trying to find yourself. [pauses] Traveling really did save me. I was just … happier. It was feeling that I was doing the right things with my life.”
On having more children: “We want to have as big a family as we can. Our only restriction is making sure we have time for everybody, and we’re finding that we have the ability to do that.” (Brad Pitt adds: “Yeaaahhh, we do things in extremes. But I’ve always embraced big changes, and this feels very natural. It’s just the most fun I’ve ever had.”)
On what matters to her the most: “People can question your choices, accuse you of things, but your real work and your integrity will [win] out. All that matters is if I build a strong family, if I’m able to do my advocacy work and if my children are happy.”

Brad never said that this project was for ___; the press presumed that it was for ___ because she was a partner at Plan B. Self-serving, much?

Thanks Jared. Love that interview. With powerful champions, like Colin Powel and Dede Gardener, no wonder Angie doesn’t always try to defend herself against those stupid, trashy tabs and some insane fans of the X, as they continue to belittle her work.
As someone mentioned upthread, it’s rather telling that there has never been a denial from X’s camp that she was never considered for the part, while many quick denials have come forth for the nose job, breast job, boyfriend, and every other inane tab report.
I remember readning an artical before that Brad was interested in this movie for Jennifer A.

Pitt bought the rights to “Heart” through Plan B, the production company he shared with his wife, Jennifer Aniston. Aniston, in fact, told a Vogue writer that she was considering playing Mariane. But by the time the film was ready to be made in 2006, Pitt had divorced Aniston and fallen in love with Jolie. Pitt thought Jolie would be perfect casting for Pearl, but didn’t bring it up. “I KNEW THE PART HAD TO BE PLAYED BY SOMENOE WITH MARIANE’S STRENGTH AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE WORLD, but I didn’t know how to broach the subject,” he says. “It feels a little like Wolfowitz trying to get his girlfriend a job.

just because she was a part of plan b at the time, people thought the book was bought as a vehicle for her. Brad had said before that Plan b was not a company for him and his wife to star in, but for stories he wanted to tell, he wouldnt act in a plan b movie if he didnt think he was right for a part..(i am sure he thought the same about Jennifer)
Yes, Jennifer was asked about it and she said she would “like to think she could play such a role, but also I reserve the right not to”

I had a chance to speak with Angelina Jolie at the press junket for A Mighty Heart on Friday, and I asked her about a few of her upcoming (or potentially upcoming) projects. As for the one the fanboys care most about — Sin City 2 — she laughed when I asked her if she would do it, and then she smiled and simply said “It might be resurfacing.” She had a little more to say about the adaptation of Atlas Shrugged, which is moving forward very slowly, despite having the Plan B powerhouse of Pitt and Jolie behind it. Angelina told me that the project is still on the table, but “the thing with Atlas is just, we all feel that it’s one of those projects where if you can’t do it right, you really can’t touch it. So we have not had all the pieces come together. There’s not been a director that’s right to come on, or all of those elements. So until it does, you know, I certainly don’t want to be a part of something that’s just put together to hit ‘this date.’”

Maniston’s chin is too long to look like Mariane. the part went to the right person and that’s not because I am a fan of Angie. I like she looks for like Mariane than Maniston. Plus I think Mariane would prefer Angie over Maniston.

she’s the most boring person in the world!!! She gaves 10 interviews per week so when does she find time to stay with her children? I think she’s so over-exposed that if she doesn’t decide to stay away for a while, people (who arent’t her fans) will get very very tired of her.
