Brad Pitt Carries Super Smiley Zahara
TOO MUCH CUTENESS!! CHOKE!!
Brad Pitt picks up 3-year-old son Pax and 2-year-old daughter Zahara from school on Wednesday afternoon at the American Embassy compound on Wednesday in Prague, Czech Republic.
Zahara looked extremely amused by the paparazzi, pointing and laughing at them. She wore wears Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers Baby School Girl Tee!
Also, Pax pointed something out on the floor to Brad on their way to the car.
Angelina Jolie has been busy shooting her new film, Wanted.

Brad is truly a great parent and I hope they love and enjoy their family and what they have. That is not found often in the world of Hollywood. I wish they would live outside the US so they did not have to endure the crazy media. Brad needs to talk to his Mother also; she is not helping the situation and before he knows it, Angelina might up and leave. That was a direct disrespect to their relationship. That is not done in families with manners and class.

I think Brad and Angie always seem happier when they are away from LA. We need to focus on Brad and Angie, and their family! Seeing Brad with the kids made my day! All the post yesterday about Jen/Jane brought my spirits down. Thank JJ for this post! Love seeing Brad with the kids. Love how he allow them to walk and run(Pax). I think he encourages independence while Angie is a little more protective and motherly.

Zahara seems to have really come out of her shell lately. She’s more smiley, expressive and happy. I honestly think that the adoption of Pax has a lot to do with it. He’s like almost her size and with him being withdrawn and scared, she had to be more assertive to welcome her new brother. Sweet.
Brad looks really great. He’s so fit. If all 40ish men kept themselves up like his, I wouldn’t have to go for younger men.

Pitt celebrates green achievement
Brad Pitt is working on his upcoming film “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.” But that won’t stop him from celebrating the fact that last week in New Orleans, groundwork began on the first of five energy-efficient solar homes.
Pitt, a self-described “architectural junkie,” chaired the design jury that chose the homes’ design.
“We’re trying to show the way,” Pitt says of the Global Green USA project. Green building “doesn’t have to cost more, it doesn’t have to look like a spaceship in the desert.”
The homes, which will produce up to 100 percent of their own electricity, are part of a development that will include 18 apartments and a community center in New Orleans’s hard-hit Ninth Ward. The building is being funded in major part by the Home Depot Foundation.
Pitt and his partner Angelina Jolie have a home in New Orleans and say the city needs green initiatives — and so does the nation.
“What if a home actually created energy instead of consuming it? What if your utility bill could be nothing?” Pitt says.
He has more plans: He’s working on his own green house, north of Santa Barbara, Calif., which he hopes will be so efficient that it won’t need to be tied into the power grid. Pitt hopes such examples can help push America toward sustainability. To get there, he says, the country needs something like Project Apollo, the audacious goal set by President Kennedy in 1961 to send a man to the moon within a decade — accomplished eight years later.
“It’s going to take a straightforward leader to say, ‘This is Apollo time! We’re going to do this in 10 years!’ I’m hoping, I’m crying, for this man or woman to show up.”
For people who want to follow the New Orleans development example, Global Green USA hopes to put the plans up on its Web site (globalgreenusa.org) later this year, so anyone can build the house that Pitt chose.

With any luck, we might soon have Brad Pitt kicking around town for a while. And on his own firepower, too — not just as Angelina’s plus-one.
Producers for one of his next films, “State of Play,” have been scoping out the District for potential shooting locations — and you figure they have to come here. The story? Basically the stuff of Larry Flynt’s most feverish dreams– investigative reporters trying to solve the murder of a pretty young political staffer. It’s based on a hugely popular BBC miniseries of the same name, but the setting switched from London to Washington and the suspect member of Parliament transformed into a congressman.
Earlier this month, filmmakers checked out George Washington University Hospital as a possible locale. No decisions yet made, according to school officials, who say they’ll check out the script to make sure it doesn’t represent the medical center as a hotbed of malpractice or staph infections or anything. Last weekend, director Kevin Macdonald — who made a splash last year with Forest Whitaker’s “The Last King of Scotland” — toured our very own newsroom, though we understand it was strictly for research; doubtful they’d ever actually get to film here.
But studio reps say that filming won’t begin until well into the fall and that no decisions about shooting locations have been made yet. In other words, they could still just end up filming the whole darn thing in Toronto, dressed up with D.C. street signs. If so? We’ll just have to cross our fingers for the next project on Pitt’s schedule: playing John Dean (!) in Watergate drama “Dirty Tricks” — co-starring Meryl Streep as Martha Mitchell, Gwyneth Paltrow as Mo Dean, and Annette Bening as Helen Thomas.

The role in Burn After Reading is a supporting role and he probably has 10-15 days tops of filming. State of Play doesn’t start shooting until late Nov and Angelina’s working w/Eastwood which means the film will be shot in October in less then 45 days. Totally doable

IMHO, I really don’t think JP dislikes Angie, or likes x more. I really believe the Pitts are good people, religious mid-western, small town people. Brad left that life he wanted more. I can relate to that. That being the case x would fit into that mold better for the family. Angie is a world figure. She has met presidents from around the world. She has spokent at the WH, the UN, everywhere. She has traveled to places even people in Washington haven’t been. How many unpolitical figures have Colin Powell praising you and your work and saying they need you, you don’t need them. Fox for all of its posturing didn’t attack her. Bill O’rielly sluffed it off. Angie is a very complicated woman. She difficult to pigeon hole. She is so difficult that some people want to dismiss her work and portray her as a fraud. Not because they believe she is, but because it would it easier for them to understand her. X is not complicated. What you see is what you and not a nickle more, or even a penny more. A person with a simplistic life style and world view would find her easier to relate to and comforting. This doesn’t mean anyone likes her more, it just means a person doesn’t have to wonder about what to say next, or even if they can carry on a conversation with her. Angie requires thought. Angie is far from shallow. Even Bill O’ has said that she is thought provoking. Brad was this simple person waiting to and wanting to burst out. He has with Angie. He is now on the world stage, not quite as big a stage as Angie, but a bigger stage than he was on with the x. I believe Brad is happy where he is. But like a lot of men whose family isn’t in the same place he seems conflicted at times. He loves his woman, his children and his family. How can he chose? He loves them both. He can’t control his mother’s actions or her feelings. Therefore let her do what she wants, and you go with your woman and your family. Brad is where he wants to be. He will never go back to the life he had. He left that life without finishing college, that is how desperate he was to leave. He doesn’t want the x, so stop believing that garbage. And he doesn’t want the life his family has. Maybe for the first time in his life he has truly found what he has been searching for. Now he will have to figure out how to protect and keep it. Remember it has only been 2.5 years. Angie is ahead of the curve. She found herself seven years ago. Give him time he will catch up, then he will know what to say and not need a pr person, or his brother to make statements. He is learning fast because he doesn’t want to lose what he has found. GENEVA, June 20 (UNHCR) – People across the world were celebrating World Refugee Day on Wednesday amid a call on the global community to help the world’s displaced and a warning that their numbers were set to rise.
In New York, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said in his first World Refugee Day (WRD) message as UN chief that international solidarity was crucial to meet the urgent humanitarian needs of refugees and others forcibly displaced.
“As we mark World Refugee Day, let us recall what sets these families, children and elderly apart from others on the move around the globe. The difference is that they cannot go home. To ensure that they are cared for and protected until they can, let us offer them our support and understanding,” he said.
High Commissioner António Guterres was in Africa Wednesday to celebrate the annual event, while UNHCR Goodwill Ambassadors such as Angelina Jolie, Adel Imam, George Dalaras, Muazzed Ersoy and Osvaldo Laport have also lent their support with interviews, appearances and campaigning. There was no specific theme this year, but many countries chose their own.
Celebrations were also planned later in the day across the Atlantic, including a big ceremony in Washington, an awards ceremony in Mexico City for a WRD essay contest and the opening in Caracas, Venezuela of a film festival on refugees. Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie was to feature later Wednesday in an interview with CNN anchor Anderson Cooper about her work with UNHCR and refugees.

To Cricri, #85: Z is bowlegged due to severe malnutrition and rickets before the Jolie-Pitts adopted her. She is under the care of one of the best pediatricians in the nation. Almost all children with this condition grow out of it by the time they are 4 or 5 with adequate care and nutrition. If surgery is necessary it will never be performed before the age of 4 because the bones haven’t set yet.

Angelina was amazing on the Charlie Rose show though she looked a little tired. That’s to be expected. She gave a lot of good info. He conducted a good interview. That’s what an interview is supposed to be like. Charlie Rose had the education & research needed to conduct an interview for this type of film. Mariane was very articulate too. It’s such a complex story to tell and English is not her first or even second language.
Don’t forget Angie will be on Anderson Cooper.

Brad doesn’t need to catch up and learn, he has been doing very well all these years as a megastar. He has a publicist like other actors but he can speak for himself, he did an exceptional interview with India’s Oprah to diffuse the AMH incident last year.

I saw the Charlie Rose interview last night too, and your right. It was one of the best interviews so far. I really like when Angie, Robert DeNiro and Matt were on there talking about The Good Shepard. Charlie didn’t ask Angie any personal question the entire hour was just about the film. Last night he talked more to Marianne and her accent is hard to understand especially when she speaks fast, but I really enjoyed them together. Great interview.

I think Zee was upset in the morning because she did not like the clothes they put on her, notice after school she is wearing something different, and she is all smiles and glee.

I rarely post anything but have enjoyed reading this blog for sometime now, but lately so many of the posts are so corrosive by both the fans of the Jolie-Pitts as well as the posters who do not like them, that this site is becoming like the other crude sites (I will not name them as they are not worth it)
If you’re a fan of the Jolie-Pitts, you will know that whatever they say or do, it is done with credence and trustwortheness, with their heads held high and don’t give a hoot of anyone’s opinion. They go about their lives and businesses and we eventually see the good that they are doing, not only the fans, but the community of journalists (real ones) and the ‘think-tanks’ of the world - this is not my opinion alone, but they have earned many accolades worldwide.
I think most fans believe this, so why is it then that we (the fans - of which I am one) constantly feel that by stooping to the level of the haters that we are defending the Jolie-Pitts?
Our inadvertent triade with the haters only prolong vitriolic criticism of the Jolie-Pitts and unfortunately keeps the triangle of JA, BP and AJ active. In order to stop this please let us ignore the haters - when no one listens to them, they will eventually go away, but by replying to them, we are only giving them more ammunition to fire caustic criticisms.
I have been impressed by AG, (who goes straight to the point but is never nasty)and some other posters who have tried diffusing an ugly situation by showing pictures of the Jolie-Pitts.
Can we not do this instead of baiting the haters?
After reading some rantings by the haters, I hope that they are not as vile as their posts in real life and are only doing so because there is anonymity of hiding behind a computer screen.
I’m at work and can’t search for a video. But I love the video which uses U2’s “One”.

Angelina Jolie, “the best woman in the world.”

There was something hilarious in the recent controversy over the Angelina Jolie press-coverage contract. You know, the stern, legally enforceable “contract” her reps tried to get celebrity journalists to sign as a precondition to interviewing the star during her PR blitz for A Mighty Heart, the film in which she plays the wife of murdered journalist Daniel Pearl.
The contract demanded that “the interview may only be used to promote the Picture. … The interview will not be used in a manner that is disparaging, demeaning or derogatory to Ms. Jolie.”
Now, I found it admirable that several media organizations rebelled against this pre-censorship and the demeaning assumption that their job is merely to “promote the picture.” Especially considering that the producers of A Mighty Heart announced that its premiere is to be a tribute to Reporters Without Borders, a group that fights restrictions on the press. (The contract was withdrawn after its embarrassing exposure, and Jolie’s lawyer took the blame for being “boneheaded” and “overzealous” in drawing it up; Jolie asserted that she “wouldn’t have put it out there.”)
But the joke of it all—the Angelina Jolie contract and the revolt against the contract—was that anyone was foolish enough to think a written contract was really necessary. When was the last time you read a celebrity profile that was “disparaging, demeaning or derogatory”?
The rules of the game, as established by the glossy magazines and the stars’ PR reps, ensure that “access” (well, a half-hour chat in a restaurant that enables the magazine to proclaim it has an “exclusive” interview) and the all-important exclusive cover shot are granted only to those magazines and journalists who will refrain from anything but fawning prose. It works out well for everybody. Celebrity journalists who play along get a good payday, magazines get newsstand sales bumps, and the rest of us are inculcated into the received myths of Celebland, the legends that sustain the illusion that it is somehow truly important.
Sure, it’s possible to publish a rant on the Web (as U.K. journalist Brendan O’Neill did in a devastating piece calling Brad and Angelina “celebrity colonialists”), but such critiques are largely irrelevant to the vast, well-oiled, pap-dispensing Publicity-Industrial Complex (a phrase I believe I was the first to use, in an essay arguing that J.D. Salinger’s rejection of this apparatus is a reticence to be admired rather than ridiculed).
The fact is, celebrities don’t need a signed contract—celebrity profilers know that the power lies in the hands of PR people, who in many cases demand writer approval before committing one of their stars to a cover story. And no profiler who makes a lucrative living off elaborate fawning wants to do anything that might jeopardize his pre-approval status.
But when it comes to fawning, there is nothing quite like the elaborate, elevated, wannabe-highbrow fawning that “gentlemen’s magazines” (mainly Esquire and GQ) do when they produce a cover story on a hot actress. And in the history of fawning gentlemen’s-magazine profiles, there is unlikely to be a more ludicrous example than the profile in the July Esquire of—yes—Angelina Jolie, which spends many thousands of words and invokes grave national tragedies to prove to us that Angelina Jolie is not just a good woman, not just an enlightened humanitarian, not just a suffering victim of celebrity, not just strong and brave, but, we are told, “the best woman in the world.”
To understand the peculiarly cringe-inducing prose of the gentlemen’s-magazine actress profile, one has to realize its conceptual fig leaf function. The main thing is that the magazine wants to publish an alluring cover photo of, say, an unclothed Angelina Jolie clutching a wispy sheet over her nakedness. But the magazine wants you to understand that it’s not running some Maxim-type lowbrow lingerie spread featuring an actress who used to be on the WB.
No, the piece is a serious profile, and there are serious reasons for running it. There are serious issues raised, there are profound questions about The Way We Live Now to be discussed. The result is a meretricious prose whose pretense at arch sophistication has become a schlock art form, the written equivalent of a Leroy Neiman nude.
Before I begin quoting from this amazing essay, I would like to say that I don’t regard this piece as an attack on the writer (whose noncelebrity work I’ve often admired), but as an attempt to rescue him, to save him from further assignments of this nature. It’s a losing game: The desperate attempt to endow celebs with Deep Meaning is not worthy of his talent.
Consider his opening paragraph. Facing a full-page, full-length “classy” cheesecake picture of an unclothed Angelina with a wispy silvery sheet clutched between her thighs, we find this piece of … prose:
This is a 9/11 story. Granted it’s also a celebrity profile—well, a profile of Angelina Jolie—and so calling it a 9/11 story may sound like a stretch. But that’s the point. It’s a 9/11 story because it’s a celebrity profile—because celebrities and their perceived power are a big part of the strange story of how America responded to the attacks upon it. And no celebrity plays a bigger role in that strange story than Angelina Jolie.
So, it’s a 9/11 story. That’s heavy, dude. And it’s a 9/11 story because, um, because, well, celebrities—which were a totally unknown phenomenon before 9/11, as everyone knows—are a 9/11 phenomenon, and Angelia Jolie is a celebrity. A stunning concatenation of insights!
Sure, it uses the death of thousands on 9/11 as a rationale for running a picture of a half-naked Angelina Jolie. But look, if we can’t exploit 9/11 when we need to add a little gravitas to that silver sheet between Angelina’s thighs, the terrorists win, right?
But are all stories about celebrities really 9/11 stories? Well, maybe, but Angelina Jolie is really the quintessential 9/11 story because—he tells us—”in post 9/11 America, Angelina Jolie is the best woman in the world because she is the most famous woman in the world—because she is not like you or me.”
Hmm, “best woman in the world”? Better than Ayaan Hirsi Ali, say, the Somalian refugee who risked her life to protest genital mutilation and stand up for Enlightenment values against theocratic oppression? (Read her book, Infidel.) Apparently, she is not famous enough.
Angelina Jolie is “the best woman in the world because she’s the most famous woman in the world”? As John Travolta* said in Pulp Fiction: “That’s a bold statement.” Does anyone believe it?
It takes some time for the author to offer an expanded justification for this insight. First, he must present us with the obligatory gentlemen’s-magazine Hot Moment in which the author implies, “She totally woulda done me.”
In this case, it involves telling us “the main thing” about meeting Angelina Jolie:
“What is the main thing? Well, there was a moment when she unzipped her dress for me. It was sort of a requisite celebrity profile moment.” Note extremely sophisticated meta take: He’s no ordinary celebrity-profile hack, so he can both say it and not seem to be overimpressed or boastful about it.
The circumstances of the unzipped moment: He had asked to see a tattoo of an endangered species of tiger, “and she obliged, reaching her hands behind her back and pulling down her zipper. The black dress parted and in the conventions of the celebrity profile, I should have been thinking, Hey, sexy. But I wasn’t.”
I’ll leave the big reveal of the deeply philosophical, nonsexual thoughts about media and reality that he was really thinking when “the black dress parted” for those who read the entire profile for themselves.
Instead, let us follow, or attempt to follow, the rationale for Angelina Jolie being “the best woman in the world” and how that relates to 9/11 and celebrity. (The highbrow celebrity profile must always offer a novel theory of Celebrity Itself.)
And here it is—he begins with the question: “Does 9/11 still have meaning for most Americans? Does it have more meaning than celebrity? Does it have more meaning than the very specific message of meaninglessness contained in the weekly parable of Angelina Jolie’s twisted double life? Or have we reached the point where its meaning is somehow inextricable from the meaning of celebrity, as 9/11 recedes into the past and celebrity gives birth to the future?”
I’m not making this up. I’m copying it right out of the pages of a well-known magazine, which (full disclosure) I’ve written for in the past. But I will be deeply indebted to any Slate reader who can make the slightest bit of sense of this paragraph about meaninglessness. Is it an example of what they used to call at Yale “the fallacy of imitative form,” in which in order to write about meaninglessness you have to be meaningless?
Actually, I suspect it is the product of someone who has read the late George W. S. Trow’s famous essay, “Within the Context of No Context” and is attempting to ape its convoluted way of saying the obvious without even having something obvious to say.
But does anybody ever read this stuff? Does anybody take it seriously? Does the writer? It’s the Emperor’s New Clothes of prose. There’s a certain sadness to it, as well. To paraphrase that line in “Howl”: I saw some of the best writers of my generation destroyed by celebrity profiling.
And by the way, it’s not like I haven’t done it myself. I am guilty of having written a column in which I proposed marriage to Rosanne Cash.* (She was gracious about it. No restraining order.)
I don’t think, in some puritanical Trowvian way, that there’s anything wrong with people being interested in celebrities. There’s just something condescending in the way certain magazines think they can put one over on the reader with these transparently insincere intellectual rationales for caring about celebs.
A meretriciousness that reaches a peak in the final column of the story, when we finally get the Angelina Jolie-as-victim theory that at last ties together Angelina, 9/11, the suffering of the wretched of the earth, and the analogous suffering of celebrities. It is a rule of the Celebrity Profile that celebrities Suffer for their Fame because they’re always whining on about how difficult it is to go to the supermarket without being recognized and other tragic inconveniences.
Or as our profiler puts it in Esquire: “She fulfills her vision of herself as the underdog; because she’s the underdog she connects to the world’s genuine underdogs … and so, in the end, finds meaning and a measure of happiness. It is the kind of conversion encouraged by all of the world’s major religions, but because celebrity is the religion in question here, the conversion of Angelina Jolie is regarded as out of reach—the function of fame and privilege.”
But he doesn’t stop there with the vision of the Christlike Angelina’s suffering and her “conversion” to some vague religion of celebrity. She’s not merely a Christ figure: “It’s pretty damned clear that the word that best describes her is a word the religion of celebrity has made difficult to say, and more difficult to swallow:
“Good.”
God that was brave of him, to call Angelina Jolie “good.”
One thing that’s a little sad about it is that there was something he could have talked about other than the meaninglessness of the meaning of celebrity: the meaning of the death of Daniel Pearl. Which, ironically, really was a 9/11 story, in that many investigators believe that Pearl was murdered by the suspected 9/11 planner Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (who confessed, albeit after torture, to killing Pearl).
Well, I’ll let you be the judge: Read the whole thing. But I feel that in a wasteland of celebrity profiles, this one rises to immortality with its final paragraph.
Because nothing matches the stately assurance of its own self-importance, nothing reaches what I’d call the “existential pompousness” of that final paragraph, with its last sentence devoted to a reprise of the “suffering” that Angelina Jolie undergoes and how she transcends it all in her uniquely saintly, best-woman-in-the-world way:
“The people who travel with her are always amazed by how she bears up when she’s barraged by photographers.” (Statements like this always make you wonder whether she’d suffer more if no photographers bothered to badger her.) “The people who travel with her are always blinded by the flashbulbs and wonder if something’s wrong with her eyes, for she just stares at the photographers as if she’s taking them all in, and then moves forward, as if they mean nothing to her at all.” End of story.
Oh the bleak meaninglessness of fame! She’s seen through to its essential nothingness. She sees through it; her eyes are fixed on a more distant dream. He knows it, our profile writer, he’s not blinded by the lights, the way the lower orders are. He’s on a spiritual realm with her, above the foolish fame-blinded masses. A plane of pure altruism and suffering. Someday we too can aspire to the wisdom to see what they see from the perspective they share together. For this gift of hope, this glimpse of what it is to be so spiritually evolved, we must be grateful.
But meanwhile, I’ve got a great concept for a profile of Britney: See, in her suffering she’s really like Iraq. I mean if you think of K-Fed as Saddam, then the divorce was “regime change” and …

The filmmakers behind the Daniel Pearl drama “A Mighty Heart” wanted to honor the slain journalist by doing what he did best - tell the straight story, unadorned by opinion, ideology or bias.
Starring Angelina Jolie as Pearl’s widow, “A Mighty Heart” unfolds in docudrama style, its just-the-facts approach putting viewers in the midst of the anguish, hope and heartache that family, friends, and colleagues underwent in the weeks after his kidnapping in Pakistan in January 2002.
Sympathies clearly are with Pearl and his loved ones as victims, but “A Mighty Heart” does not preach or condemn, does not take sides or point fingers. Like last year’s Sept. 11 saga “United 93,” the film simply tells what happened, chronicling the horror and humanity experienced by one family in our new world of terrorism.
“We were making a film about a journalist and felt we should try to reflect that,” said “A Mighty Heart” director Michael Winterbottom, who often applies documentary style and improvisation to heighten the sense of authenticity in his films, which include “Welcome to Sarajevo,” “In This World” and last year’s “The Road to Guantanamo.”

“Mariane and Daniel are both journalists. Obviously, they were trying to report on events and make sure they give as fair a view as they could. We didn’t want to build any opinions into the film; to try to tell it as accurately as possible. Why change it? Why try to dramatize it? Tell it as truthfully as you can.”
Though “A Mighty Heart,” which opens Friday, features one of the biggest stars on the planet and was produced by Jolie’s romantic partner Brad Pitt, the film is notably free of Hollywood trappings.
Jolie buries herself in the role of Mariane Pearl, a French radio journalist who was six months pregnant with Daniel’s son at the time her husband was kidnapped.
What follows is a harrowing four weeks in which Jolie’s Pearl copes with false hopes and false alarms, frustrations with the multinational collection of investigators and bureaucrats on the case, and packs of reporters covering her husband’s abduction.
“This story and this time is something that everybody remembered,” Jolie said at May’s Cannes Film Festival,” where “A Mighty Heart” premiered. “Even studio heads actually care about this, they care about Danny Pearl and they care about Mariane. Even when we came to the publicity, they didn’t ask for things that were silly. All anybody had to say was that didn’t feel right, and nobody pushed.”
Based on Mariane Pearl’s memoir “A Mighty Heart: The Brave Life and Death of My Husband, Danny Pearl,” the film begins on the day of the Wall Street Journal reporter’s disappearance.
Daniel Pearl - played by Dan Futterman, the screenwriter of 2005’s “Capote” - told Mariane he might be late for dinner, as he had a meeting with a sheik for a story on Islamic militancy. He never came home, and authorities later determined the meeting was a ruse by Islamic militants to kidnap Pearl, who later was beheaded by his captors.
Almost overnight, Mariane Pearl’s circle of friends and associates widens to include U.S. diplomats, Pakistani authorities and dozens of others who take a deep interest in bringing her husband home alive.
Winterbottom had his actors spend time with their real-life counterparts, allowing the performers to get a better handle on their characters and also giving them insight into how many lives the Pearl story touched.
“When you hear them speak about that event, personally it’s changed their lives forever,” said actress Archie Punjabi, who plays Daniel Pearl’s Wall Street Journal colleague Asra Nomani. “Each one of those people is somebody’s son or daughter or husband or wife. Each one of them stopped their entire life to focus on Danny, and when you meet them, you can see how the events affected their lives.”
One of those affected was the Pearls’ son, Adam, born in France months after his father died. Futterman said he felt great responsibility playing Pearl, knowing the film could one day convey a sense of the man to his son.
“He never got to meet his father. He may see this at some point, and hopefully it will expose him to certain things about his dad and the kind of man he was,” Futterman said.
The fact that “A Mighty Heart” comes from British filmmaker Winterbottom brings the story to a wider audience than if a Pakistani director had shot the film, said Irrfan Khan, an Indian actor playing a Pakistani counterterrorism official who becomes a key ally to Mariane Pearl.
“It’s a great thing that somebody from the Western world has taken an interest in this region,” Khan said. “Our world is becoming so much smaller and smaller, and you cannot remain unaffected by other parts of the world.”
As critical to the story itself is its message of standing fast against terrorism, the filmmakers say.
“The kidnappers, their whole point is to terrorize people,” Jolie’s Mariane tells friends after they learn of Danny’s death. “I am not terrorized, and you should not be terrorized.”
Mariane Pearl felt it was critical to refuse to give in to the fear and hate that terrorism can elicit, Jolie said.
“I think she is a great example of that, because under the most extraordinary circumstances, she remained very focused on … having sympathy for the other side, even after they did that to her husband,” Jolie said. “And having the openness to learn about them. And I’m sure she feels all that we expect her to feel, but somehow on top of that, she managed to rise above it.”
The filmmakers stuck to that notion, showing a wildly disparate group of people - Americans, Europeans, Pakistanis, Indians and others - coming together with a common goal to bring Daniel Pearl home safely.
“When I met the people involved, it struck me a lot of them had felt defeated, ashamed in a way that they hadn’t brought Danny back. Mariane manages to make them not feel like that. She made them understand a lot of positive things came from that experience,” Winterbottom said. “That must have made a huge difference for them.”

Angie looked very tired in the AMH Charlie Rose interview, and even more in TGS interview. She looked more healthy in the Alexander interview. Hopefully her year long acting break will help make her more healthier and gain weight.

I think it was one of the writers who didn’t want Angelina because no one would believe her as a WASP. She’s too “ethnic” looking. Even today..as well known as she is…if the part requires a tall willowy icelandic type, Angelina ain’t it.

That’s why I got The Good Shepherd because of Angie. I think she was right for the film because she was so carefree in the beginning and you see that joy just drain from her at the end. When Matt’s character told her he married her because of their son and the subtle expression on her face. I think people feel she was miscast because it’s hard to believe that her husband didn’t want her in the movie. Or that an unknown would’ve been better in the role because Angie has such a presence and that’s the whole point out of the 40 minutes she was in the movie you remember her character the most. I just wish her role was bigger.

It’s not a matter of Angie being worried about the other airheads, it’s a matter of Brad’s regards for Angie’s feelings. Take for exempel a woman knows that she is not leaving her husband for another man but does that means that she can flirt with an another man in front of her husband. I agree with ida to the point that Angie does not need that kind of tabloid **** she is going through. What Jane and Doug Pitt did was not helping it. Angie is so graceful, always praising Brad and talking warmly about his parents, I just hope they are more sensitive to her feelings. Nothing he says in this article attacks Angelina so I don’t know what you mean by worst celebrity profile written. Where in the article was he profiling Angelina? I read the article twice. He is criticizing how the article was written, making Angelina sound like a god.
Angelina is not the one who promotes herself as a saint. She’s always the first to admit she is not perfect. People interpret her humanitarian work from every possible angle. She doesn’t tell them what to think, she just tells them the way it is. How you want to spin her efforts is not her fault. She is doing what she can and you are mistaken to think this article demeans her in any way. If you don’t believe me, clarify it with the writer himself. I’m sure you can contact him via email. Ask him if this article profiles Angelina and if his intention is to criticize her.
Conclusion: He is attacking the way Angelina is being glorified. Since she did not write this article about herself, she cannot be accountable for how she was portrayed.

Are you kidding me? Do you dictate who your parents or in-laws are allowed to talk to or be friends with? Angie herself says she is not easy to get close to so maybe, just maybe, she made it hard for Brad’s parents to get close to her so they ended up staying close to Jennifer. Or maybe Angie is true to herself and doesn’t have a problem with Jane remaining friends with Brad’s ex because she knows BRAD IS HIS OWN PERSON and his parent’s relationships with other people have nothing to do with him. How can you condemn the Pitts when you have no clue how Brad and Angie feel about the situation? After all, it’s THEIR feelings that matter NOT YOURS.
I love that picture of Brad carrying Zahara, she looks so happy. Pax is very interested in something on the ground maybe its something he’s never seen before. What I find enjoyable is that Zahara and Pax are leaving the daycare/pre-school happy.

Ida, have you noticed the topic of this board? You come on and the mood of the board changed. I DONT WANT TO TALK ABOUT JEN. JEN HAS A THREAD IF YOU WANT TO RANT GO DO IT THERE. I get the feeling some of these people are only fans of BP/AJ when the script goes down the way they want it to.
I think brads mom has a good heart, I think she likes Jen, Angelina is the mother of her grandchildren, from what I have observed they spend a lot of time as a family, more than I spend with mine at the moment, as busy as they are, good for them. If as I suspect this was a photo-op on jens part, then she made the biggest mistake of her life, bigger than divorcing brad. AS with everything Jolie-Pitt I will wait and see!!!

While I want to give the Pitts the benefit of the doubt, I still question the wisdom of visiting the X at all, what’s wrong with a simple phone call? It’s not like they visit all the time, heck, the last time they were together was in Chicago during filming of TBU. And even then I questioned what kind of mother would go against her son’s wishes and align with a daughter-in-law? Even if she loved Jennifer to the bone, still, shouldn’t her loyalty be to her son? I would personally put my son’s happiness above all, but then that’s just me.

Yes, so upset he run to people magazine and gave them a quote. Even when NO ONE of the other tabloids made a big deal about it. Jen’s trap my ass. They were traveling to NY together.
Jane was smiling sweetly while taking photos of them at premiere. Her daughter voluntarily taking out Zahara and Pax to an amusement place with her children.
Angie visited Springfield several times and spent several days.
They are one family unit now. We should keep in minf that Angie is always open minded to the world and people.
If Angie can be be friends with her ex-husbands, which I am sure Brad does not mind, then Aniston can still be friends with her ex-DIL.
Angie is an amazing woman because she does not hold grudges. She does not let hatred rule her.
This is the reason, I love her more and more.
Although it is nice to see these family photos I am still pissed about what went down on Sunday and the same old BS that is being published about Angie (the man stealing cold hearted vixen that Pitts family can’t stand compared to sweet girl next door all american Jennifer). Before this whole Brangelina union came about I was casual fans of all three but for some reason when rumblings were being reported about possible flirtation and attraction of Angie & Brad I found the thought of them together as meant to be and all the speculation turned out to come true. Everyone saw Brad’s many tearful interviews of his wishes for a family/ a big family. Everyone saw wild child turned devoted mom making it on her own independantly not needing a man; not needing anyone. IMO, this miss independant not givng a damn what anyone things is nice to portray to the public but I don’t buy it and that is why all this stuff gets me disturbed about the never ending assault on her character. Come on now, how many of us have ourselves gone the route of “I don’t care what people think of me; I don’t need anyone”? It’s a defense mechanism against being hurt because Angie is like every other person out there that want to depend on someone, trust someone and be loved by someone. Jen is good at telling people how she is hurting while Angie doesn’t cry to the public about her disappointments. Angie cut herself when she was younger so it is obvious that she hurts like everyone else. I am glad that Angie and Brad found one another and have the family they have both wished for. I am just sick of the harrassment placed on Angie constantly. Just a few days ago I brought up Angelina in casual conversation and had to hear about what a beotch she was for breaking Jenn’s marriage and how she doesn’t give a damn about her own child but would rather use her “colored” kids for good PR. The **** that the tabloids spit out week after week does hurt a persons credibility and in Angie’s case, her career. Brad doesn’t get slammed because he is just a regular guy that was seduced in his moment of weakness then trapped by the vixen becomming pregnant to close the deal. Listen, I love Brad and Angie but how much can this poor girl take. Jen is pathetic for this meeting and manipulation of the press these past few weeks so nothing is going to change her but it would be nice for Angie to get some support for a change, the least of it being that Brad’s mom not going running to her old pal Jen (the one that got away). People magazine for the last 3 weeks have been No 1 on jen’s exclusive coverage, I think this story was a aniston photo op-huvane spin story. Angelina Jolie is the major alienation effect in A Mighty Heart, although she’s not the only one. The hectic pizzazz with which hired gun Michael Winterbottom directs this tale of terrifying terrorism is another distraction—and so is the movie’s true-life premise. An addendum to last year’s 9/11 movies and a sequel of sorts to Winterbottom’s Road to Guantánamo, A Mighty Heart is based on one of the most disturbing events of the 9/11 aftermath—namely the case of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, abducted by jihadi extremists in Karachi and, five weeks later, brutally executed on video, in part because he was a Jew.
A mondo-global, insanely urgent, staccato procedural in which each shot arrives like a bulletin, A Mighty Heart is characterized by sensational, quasi-documentary location work in swarming Karachi and a sense of near-constant frenzy. Pearl’s briskly staged abduction sends the movie into controlled chaos. The crime triggers a dense montage of flashbacks and action cuts, accompanied by head-spinning techno-babble—a manhunt with a half-dozen agencies busily tracking e-mails and cell-phone calls.
After his capture, Pearl ( Capote writer Dan Futterman) appears only in flashback—despite a few video teases, the movie resolutely refuses to show him in captivity.
