Reba McEntire - “Because of You” Music Video
Kelly Clarkson re-recorded her hit song “Because of You” with country singer Reba McEntire for McEntire’s album Duets, out September 2007.
The song is the first single off the album. Somehow, the music video is better than the song. But then again, the original is better than the cover.

I like this one better than the live version they did. The video is nice too. And Kelly looks good in it :)
I never thought of this song being about abuse. But this video implicates that it is. Is it? Or is it just an interpretation? Or doens’t anybody know what the song is about exactly?
This version of “Because of You” is an interesting dual perspective. Of course, in this video, we know that when Kelly’s character sings, she’s hashing out her issues of trust since she’s with an abusive, philandering man. Reba’s character, however, seems to be singing to remind herself of the cautionary tale that’s unfolding with her friend/colleague.
As far as the singing goes, I prefer Kelly’s original recording (she has such a powerfully raw voice), but this new video is pretty compelling.

I love Kelly’s and Reba’s music. I’ll bet the song is beautiful (can’t hear it yet, no speakers on my computer at work). A lot of people have been complaining about Kelly’s man-hate songs. I saw a pic here of her with Enrique Iglesias. The post said that they are good friends. I suggest that she make a beautiful duet with him about love to help with that. What do you guys think?

Oh wow. I was all ready to hate that, but it was pretty good. I did love the video treatment of the song. Framing me as a duet does provide some extra levels of interpretation that were treated visually in the video.

Love it! but i love the original better, this video is edited better than the original, but i’m just not into Reba’s voice. i love kelly though, and for those who are saying that her album “sucked”, it didn’t, and to all his opinion, but get real. that album is one of the best personal albums ever. i love it! even though there might not be #1’s on it, but who gives a #@%#! it’s personal songs, not people songs. i love it anyway.

Reba totally blows Kelly out of the water even on her own song. Reba can shape a song. Kelly needs to learn that loud is not the way to mezmerize with your voice.
Wonderful I love it.. Cant wait to see some of Reba’s other duets. I believe Kenny Chesney and her are working on one due out late summer. Not too sure of that. Good job Kelly and Reba.

Note: Kelly suffered from bulimia in High School. That was like a long time ago! She snapped out of it and never wants to go back there. And that was in the news a long time ago but Cosmogirl just wants more money so they brought that old subject back up.

I can not believe that the people are being so terrible and saying such awful things about these ladies and this song. I don,t see any one of you up there talking about a difficult subject that should concern us all. This song is a good message because of you the message does show how abuse put fear in many women, ruin relationships,cause depression and that many women return to a abusive situation because they do not know how to leave. THIS A GREAT song it brings tears to my eyes as I have remember patching up some of these women and some I have taken to the morgue. I am a nurse who saw women beaten to death by a spouse, boyfriend or just for fun.Some made it through. Reba,Kelly gratulation on a job well done.I am looking forward to seeing you in concert in Puyallup WA.

kelly is so amazing, why does everyone keep making fun of her has anyone seen how nice she is? her new album is my fav of all time better than breakaway in my opinion because her voice sounds better and stuff. this video is also real good, i think kelly sounds nicer to my ears than that reba woman but htis is still really good. i aint seen this on t.v. yet

Angela? Yeah, Reba added new words to the song. The country twang has very little to do with it; Reba changed parts of the song because they were awkward and didn’t fit right. THAT is what makes the duet version different from the other.
