MARIANE PEARL ASKED FOR JOLIE

June 26, 2007 — ‘WE HAD something to say that we knew we should say together!” So speaks the widowed Mariane Pearl, asked by Time to comment on how she felt about Angelina Jolie playing her in the film about the murder of her husband, journalist Daniel Pearl.

Mariane went on to add, “I have heard some criticism about her casting, but it is not about the color of your skin. It is about who you are. I asked her to play the role - even though she is way more beautiful than I am - because I felt a real kinship to her. She put her whole heart into it, and I think she understood why we should do this movie.”

Indeed she did. I saw “A Mighty Heart” over the weekend, and Jolie has never been better - intense, sympathetic, strong. That she is able to submerge herself as well as she does is amazing, given that her mere appearance on-screen brings with it a lot of silly tabloid baggage. But, she’s a real actress! The documentary style of the movie takes a bit of getting used to, but once you’re involved, it’s all the way.

Kudos also to Dan Futterman, who plays Daniel Pearl. He hasn’t many scenes, but he makes them count. (You remember him as the brother in “Judging Amy,” and he was Oscar-nominated for his “Capote” screenplay.)

Thandie Newton got MI2 because she is a good friend of Nicole Kidman and that she is a talented actress. I don’t think Brad had anything to do with it.

Uh, I wasn’t implying that he did. People were asking how he could have know Thandie Newton and I explained she had a small role in Interview with a Vampire. Tom Cruise co-stared in that film as well. So I made the point of metioning that Nicole Kidman mentioned her to Tom. I didn’t suggest Brad had anything to do with her getting the role MI2. I don’t even think he and Tom are friends.

Isn’t it funny, when Aniston sells a product, she is called all kinds of names?

No those who wants to simplify both acts are the HYPOCRITE ones !

When you are an actor from TV, doing comercial ONLY as your MAIN job is a downgrade cause it is becoming your core business.

When you are a movie STAR still doing your core business as such and ADDING commercial as HOBBIES doesn’t qualify to dowgrade, but just as INSENTIVE

Anitston is a mutli millioniare who is trying to sell expensive water with no sense of charity. No promotion from the company (which she owns a portion) giving to projects to help those who have no clean water.

This is not classy. She is a fraud.

Francophile: You make a very good observation. I hadn’t thought of it in your terms, and it makes sense of how each of them are percieved, even though they all are being spokespeople for various products.

Again, I just have to say that whenever Maniston plants a story for release, I become suspicious because of the timing of the stories…seeming trying to grab some of the spotlight from Cannes with the water announcement, and the unveiling of the “new man in her life” breaking story” too.

LOL. That women can’t stop talking. The way she described her view on the film is totally different from the main reason why Mariane agreed to have this movie made and the message they want to convey to the public. I don’t know why she said those things. It’s not her book. Asra Nomani is just making herself to look like a woman who was in love with Daniel. And the way she talks, she really hates and Blames Brad for the movie.
Anyways, the women is crazy. I’m glad her15 min. of fame is over.

I just don’t understand why people are so upset at Ms. Nomani for expressing her views.

For crying out loud, DP & MP were in her house during DP’s research on what happened during September 11; and he died while her wife was staying Ms. Nomani’s house. Of course, she should voice her opinion if she feels that the movie does not capture the real DP, her friend and colleague (your comment about her being in love with DP is indicative of a lack of maturity in your reasoning; even if she was in love with him, that still does not change her point). Yes, some of you will say AMH is not about DP, which is fine. However, without his death this movie would have never happened. So, her point is that she does not feel that they properly portrayed DP. Second, she questions why are we, today’s society, so eager to create a hero out of woman, MP, who did her job as a wife.

She is not the only woman to have lost a husband in those circumstances. There are many who have lost and will loose their husbands in the war against terrorism. So, do those women lack the strength of MP? I think not.

Yes, this movie is about MP and AJ. The really forgot the man who sacrifice his life for the truth.

The tragic death of DP has been reduced to bankable project for Hollywood; undeniably AJ & BP have tried to raise their popularity to a higher level with the story of this man. Hence, the numerous PRs they did for this movie.
