Hell yes. I would be annoyed if I was a professional journalist and was subjected to reported about a celbutante to no end also! I am utterly sick of hearing and reading about Paris–there’s no escape. I at least understand why Paris shows up on entertainment shows and entertainment news programs, but she has no place being on shows that supposedly report the world news. There are more important things going on in the world that Paris Hilton! MSNBC should take a note from their anchor and grow some dignity.

oh puh-leez, this is nothing but schtick. general electric was dying to get the first paris interview until it went public that they were going to pay for it and the today show was humiliated into dropping it.
as compensation, they booked ann cunter for an hour on hardball last nite.

Well, finally a real journalist shows some balls…and wouldn’t you know…it’s a woman! GO Mika! I’ve seen a bit of her lately and she is a good reporter. Shame on Joe Scarborough for showing the clip anyway. Paris Hilton is famous for nothing. She does nothing but party and act trashy - NOT a role model I’d want for my daughter; and it IS almost impossible to escape her.

Amazing. Big ups to the journalist. I have to note however that Paris ended up getting some publicity through them anyway, since they spent 3 minutes mentioning her name either way. The best thing they could’ve done was discussing the show before actually airing. Although I agree with the stance, I dont think Paris Filthy deserves any type of attention. She’s not a role model to anyone, and does not represent the general public
Hopefully tabloid gossip will be removed from all News media. There are more important issues to be discussed than rumours about celebs’ personal lives.

I got a whole bunch of people to send MSNBC angry letters about them paying her a million bucks for her interview. They had a lighter? Do you think any of them actually smoke as professional SPEAKERS? It was staged to fight the bad publicity, which is why NBC is featuring something that, if it was random, they’d probably never show. STUNT.
It proves that “anchors” are mere READERS=puppets. The producers control what to be said on air. This one time this woman took control perhaps risking her job or disciplinary action. Good for her, but still she is just a puppet and it’s painfully clear she realized it.
Finally a journalist who wants to report on REAL NEWS!!!!

Hey, with huge corporate entitities like the ones that exist today, one can never put a staged incident. But my ever-optimistic mind must believe it is not so; were it to be an actual fake event, it would go to show that MSNBC (and modern news media in general) has not only shifted focus from hard news to entertainment, but that they would be willing to have their anchors do a singing and dancing act rather than report hard news. sigh.
BUT then again, even given the possibility this may be an act, I’m glad even for the words “Now, on to the REAL news” having been uttered. It acknowledges the ridiculousness of this new idea of “newsworthy material”. And that’s something.
Because it’s true…stories like these belong on E! and the like…maybe even The Daily Show and such. But not MSNBC. I’m looking forward to seeing whether the network actually changes their story lineup after this…. we’ll see…

It was not a stunt. Did you watch the clip? She was trying to be subtle and hide what she was talking about, but give the signal to her producers that she would not talk about this. Joe Scarborough was the one who called her out that she was talking about Paris. He and the other guy made an issue out of it to try to force her into doing the story. You could tell she was not faking. She felt very strongly that she should not lead with this story as it’s not news. It got erratic because they tried to force her to do something she was vehemently opposed to. They could have avoided it if they went along with her instead of forcing it. Good for her for standing up for what many people feel, and that is that things have gotten way too out of control, with Anna Nicole Smith coverage and everything else. There is no way Paris should have been a lead story. MSNBC and CNN need to be reporting news first. There is enough coverage of celebrities with E!, all the gossip shows like ET and the Insider, and all the gossip rags and blogs. CNN and MSNBC etc need to be reporting real news first and foremost. People are sick of this and it’s finally boiling over thank god! When things get too out of control, it needs to get corrected and that’s what’s happening now in our country. People are sick of too much focus on celebrity and celebutantes. We have gotten too irreponsible in that we’re ignoring important issues in this country.
Anyone who shuns Paris Hilton and those like her should definitely be applauded.

Not familiar with the show, but whoever those two guys were… they’re total d***heads. They antagonize her to shred the story and make her own headline, but talk over her as she tries to redirect to “real news”.
that really wasn’t necassary to make a big stink out of it, i mean really, its her job to deliver news and if she doesnt want to do what the script tells her then she shouldn’t be a news anchor.
