She should have gone nude. Unfortunately, she was raised in one of the
most body repressive cultures on earth. Americans like to use the words
indecency, modesty or morality in the place of body shame. Our ancestors
lived with little or no clothing for eons. This is really all about males
exploiting females for money. It’s OK for women to talk their tops off
at the local strip club, but not at the beach. Only males are permitted
this freedom.
Every state should set aside at least a quarter of their beaches and
pools (50% would be better) and allow both sexes to go topfree for the
summer. How many females would go back to tops or one-piece swimsuits
after even a few hours? Very few is my guess.
Let’s turn back the clock, to a time before the Puritans took over the
world and both sexes had body equality. That little piece of cloth you
wear at the beach has nothing to do with who you are. It doesn’t make
you more decent or moral than someone who is naked.

It’s moronic for those who are repressed and inhibited to try to impose their unhealthy intolerant “morality” on others. The very people who most vociferously criticize people with a well adjusted view of sexuality themselves exhibit poorer morals. They are fighting against their own nature and trying to bring their war to the culture at large. People are afraid of nudity and sexuality when they have guilt and shame issues over things which are a natural part of humanity. These individuals need therapy, not to have popular culture or legislators listen to their intolerance. What healthy well adjusted Americans need to do is to embrace their sexuality, maintain the emotionally healthy approach to life and rub the noses of the uptight party poopers in it until they loosen up. If it were up to me we’d adopt the European model of normative sexuality, nudity in commercials, topless beaches being the standard, women being able to breastfeed in public without persecution and a sex positive attitude with rational sexual education for our youth to replace the dysfunctional inanity of the “just say no” approach. It’s shown that unwanted pregnancy and transmission of venereal disease declines with realistic sexual education, not with the abstinence only approach. Just look at Sarah Palin’s daughter. Classic case of what teaching stupid fundamentalist values results in. Spare me.
First of all, America is doing its level best to slide down with the rest of the world. So have no fear. Shall we meet in the gutter? But there are two points to be made here: 1. Have any of you ‘enlightened’ euros noticed that the futher down the civilization chain you go, the less ‘uptight’ poeple are about sexuality? Fathers siring children by their daughters in rural mexico, grannies wacking off boys in public in rural china? The fundamentalists over react, true. But that’s because you all have absolutely no sense of decency and propriety. Remember, evidence of Rome’s disintegration (aside playing a hand in knocking of Jesus) was the debauchery and the tossing off aborted fetuses in the dumpsters outside of town. Have a little discipline, folks, and we won’t have give you missile shields cuz you can manage to defend yourselves. Point 2: I’ve been to the beaches in France and Europe. Ugh. Put on a shirt. Most people, American or European or Tongan, do NOT look good naked. I mean, at least trim that bush a little, grandma!
@Didi: Why do you put all us Americans in the same category. Most of us are fine with this however your aggrevated response to us Americans makes you look like an ass.
