There was a video of BAMZS in NOLA, pre-Pax, where a couple in a passing car, was videotaping the family on a walk. Maddox’s voice could be heard on that.

Thanks to Brad and Angie for taking good care of this cute kid, who was once without a home.

I just watched AMH yesturday. Here’s my review. The movie was BORING to be honest.. But Angie’s strong performance saved it. I don’t think she’ll win an Oscar, since her powerful emotional scenes come at the end. From seeing Cate Blanchett in The Golden Age trailer, she has a wide range of emotions. I’m predicting Cate will win, while Angie is nominated. If Angie doesn’t win, hopefully she’ll win for The Changeling.

Does it get warm over there where they are. Why is it that Brad, although Maddox is in shorts, is always dressing like it is a winter storm watch in effect. Jacket, and his hat, does he know something that they do not know.

One of the best performances I’ve ever seen.

Ms. Jolie was truly incredible in this. It doesn’t look like she will be remembered come Oscar season because the film came out so early, but she really should. Everything about her performance was dead on perfect… her accent, her natural ability, her realistic take (you didn’t catch her “acting” once)… and of course her incredibly heartbreaking scene toward the end. I always thought that she was an amazing actress, but this performance really takes the cake. My friend and I were completely blown away. I’m putting it up there with one of my all time favorite performances.

Actually, the entire cast was incredible. They really picked the right people to portray the characters. Everyone was just great.

So, if you are into the art of acting at all I would really recommend this. Personally, I thought that the entire movie was amazing, but if you don’t care about the story or don’t think this type of movie should have been made (it is hard to sit through just because it makes you nervous the entire time..which was the point), I would still recommend that you see this simply for the acting

Re: AMH - and post #63 —- was her performance decent or exceptional? There are distinctions between the two. A “decent” performance does not an Oscar nomination garner. An “exceptional” one would, if they truly are not a popularity contest. In either case, AJ has proven her metal in the art of acting. Who is most sought after actor these days?

let me just say that Cate B. was robbed of an Oscar for Best Actress in the movie Elizabeth which is, i should add, is the same story and director for The Golden Age. She was awesome in Elizabeth and i felt G. Paltrow was so overated in Shakespeare in Love! Cate definitely deserved that best actresss award. YOu guys should watch Elizabeth, it’s awesome!

Hi there. To answer your question, no I’m not Malaysian but I’m Filipino. And you’re right I was talking in Filipino/Tagalog. I forgot malaya is also an old name for the then British Malaya. I find it ironic that Malaya refers to the British colonies in those parts of the Malayan peninsula whereas the Filipino common noun word means “free”.

i just saw the movie Beowulf and Grendel with Gerard Butler as Beowulf. The story is about a warrior(Beowulf) trying to kill the evil troll Grendel for terrorizing a community in ancient northern europe. it’s a good movie, there’s a lesson behind it. i cant wait for the new Beowulf to come out.

I went to see AMH again last night. I disagree with Brangelina. To me, it was far from boring. Even though I saw the movie again I still felt the same emotions. I still had my stomach in knots as the movie moved quicker and quicker, even though I knew what was coming. I still felt like I was kicked in the stomach when Angie/Mariane received the news about Danny. I posted before (many threads back) the movie exceeded my expectations which TGS & O13 didn’t.

Last night I took two co-workers who do not follow Brad & Angie. I was really interested in getting their opinion of the film. They thought it was really good and that Angie gave an amazing performance. They left the theater numb and in thought. They were thinking of Mariane and Danny, and about the city of Karachi. And yes, they did think it was a very heavy movie and could understand why it would have a difficult time competing against the summer blockbuster movies. It’s a movie for thinking people. Anyway, that’s my nickel review.

actually, Beowulf was written as a poem in ancient England (8th-10th century) but the story takes place in Scandinavia. Angie plays the evil mother witch of Grendel(the evil troll) and i bet she’s awesome in it! And Beowulf is the warrior trying to save the day but is torn apart by his morals and values. Maddox will always hold a very special place in Angie and Brad’s heart. Maddox changed her life for the better, much better. Then it was probably Maddox who made Brad realize and decide to do the unthinkable–leaving the “America’s sweetheart” albeit a totaly empty woman, and risking his popularity for having a meaningfull and full life of love and family. So I’m assuming this is sour grapes or something because from the opinion of the anti-Brad posters, he has bad BO, wears the same clothes, has aged repulsively, not too smart, is selfish and an all around dog/loser. So why were people upset that he and Jen broke up? If I were a Jen fan and felt this was true, I’d be glad she was free of him, probably send AJ flowers for taking him off Jen’s hands so she culd find herself a “real” man. The last thing I’d want is for Brad and Angie to break up or any meddling family members to try to bring Jen down again with this guy.

Otherwise, the person many of you fawned over and adored just a few years ago when Jen was on his arm are just spewing anger, resentment and bitterness - a real ugly combination - because he made a life change that quite frankly, is a private matter that people do everyday, but we seem to think we have a right to take ownership of.

Kids wear designer t-shirts and other clothes all the time. Gap, baby phat, Tommy etc. In hollywood they have different name brands but it is the same results. What does respecting there culture have to do with color? Are you serious? They could be reading them books, providing them with information a hundred other things they could be doing to keep them in touch with their culture. You don’t see every second of their lives, try to keep that in mind when you make comments.

What culture are you talking about? The J-P kids are as American as any other American, you moron. They are as American as anyone who was born in another country and who has acquired American citizenship, like all the adopted J-P kids.
The fact that their country of origin include Cambodia (Madd); Vietnam (Pax); and Ethiopia (Zee); is incidental. The fact that their parents have said they will honour their kids’ country of birth by observing some of the traditions and teaching their kids about their origins, is what any conscientious parent of adopted kids may choose to do. But these other countries will never mean to the JP kids what America will mean to them.
I guess, by your logic, Brad and Angie should observe Namibian traditions for Shi and teach her about her country of origin,’ huh? :roll:

I was moved by the human side of the story, the uncertainty they had to live in for a few weeks, and the hopelessness Marianne felt in such a vast chaotic city.
Angelina portraits Marianne Pearl’s pain brilliantly. In private a fighter, an optimist, a pushy/concerned wife, some times fearful other times a lioness trying helplessly to protect and rescue her husband. In public a dignified wife and journalist.
I think if anyone ever decides to travel abroad should see this film first, even if you are going to a U.S. friendly country. Something can always go wrong, and when it does, who is there to rescue you, to protect you? You don’t have to be a journalist for the Wall Street Journal. We can all learn from others.

Immigrants from all over the world can apply to be American Citizens by choice but should be approved by the Dept. of Justice after taking written and personal interviews by its officers. Pax. Madd,and Z, being minors became US Citizens thru the sponsorship of Angie. They all have US passports , same as any naturalized citizens.

To whoever asked about why Pax and Z aren’t in school — they go to a different school. They’re in preschool and I believe their term ended last week. Maddox is either in kindergarten or first grade at the Lyçee Francaise which would run on the European schedule over there. School runs through July and doesn’t re-open until late September or early October.

There is a branch of the Lyçee in NYC and I heard the curriculum is very, very rigorous. Maddox will get an excellent education there

There are two in NYC area in addition there is the United United Nations School which is very very popular. It’s teaching language is English but most of the kids that go there are chldren of diplomats and celebrities. the Lycee in Los Angeles is also popular with actress Jodie Foster being a famous alum.

Sadly, I contributed $5.00 (matinee and discount Tuesdays) to that cr@p!!

I love romantic comedies and was hoping that I would be pleasantly surprised; the last time I was pleasantly surprised by a romantic comedy was Something’s Gotta Give.

I wish the writers would step up their game. I really wish that these actors would read the whole script in order to know that they’re not working on junk!

Transformers will probably be the holiday hit. And why not? you really don’t need a brain to see it and that’s what people want during the summer, off from school and off from work.

There is no doubt that Angie would have had no problem raising Maddox on her own as she initially thought; though I am so glad it did not turn out that way. Perhaps I am old fashioned in believing that a father figure (positive male role model) is extremely important to a child’s upbringing. It gives daughters love/attention from a male so they don’t have to seek it too early through boys the wrong way and it shows sons how they should behave (especially towards women). It does seem as is Maddox is thriving by having a dad like Brad to bond with and look up to and I can only imagine how fulfilling this is to Brad. There are a million and one reasons why the union with Angie & Brad seems like fate and the best thing for all involved with BAMPZS. I will always wish them the very best and detest those that put them down for just trying to live a positive life their own way.

Well, I got to tell you. As much as I loved AMH and Angie’s performance in it, she was just fabulous - we know the films that the studios feel are award contenders come rolling out in full force in the fall. AMH has a slight advantage in that it hopefully won’t get lost in the shuffle of all of those movies but on the other hand, they may need to launch some campaign to keep it fresh in people’s minds, or something. We’ve seen studios rerelease movies closer to that time.

As to competition, well, as long as Helen Mirren, Judy Dench, Meryl Streep, etc don’t have anything coming out this Fall then I won’t worry too much. Cate Blanchett could be deadly, especially since her Elizabeth Oscar was given to Gwyneth. Kate Winslet has been doing some fantastic work as well. This could get ugly real fast. I’ll be happy just have AJ nominated cause the number of actresses delivering such outstanding calibre performances could easily crowd her out by the time the nominations are made.

I LOVED A Mighty Heart. I thought it was, overall, an excellent film. I can’t be too picky about Angelina Jolie’s performance and compare it to her other works simply because I haven’t seen them, and her personal life is hers alone and not deemed to be shredded upon her acting. But I thought she did a superb job in playing Mariane Pearl… I actually had to remind myself that it was Angelina Jolie playing a person, and not Pearl herself. She had me bawling like a baby at the theater. [And as for the whole uproar on Jolie playing Pearl... I say they smoke their pipes and snuff it, and sue me if anybody tries to pick up a fight with me on this, especially since Mariane Pearl personally asked Jolie to play her...] The rest of the cast were also of high caliber. I don’t want to single out any one of them, because they all played equally well, but a few that stand out at the top of my head are Captain, Asra, and the Wall Street journalist that worked with Daniel Pearl (Sorry, their true names keep escaping me for some reason).

I also agree with the other posters on this thread– that life in Karachi was portrayed honestly, little politics and sensationalism, and no jingoism. Plus, they didn’t show the video, which I thought was very respectful and reserved. In a way, that makes the movie even better because then you know it’s not going for shock value and gives a better focus on Mariane’s personal and loving search for her husband.

I feel I should clarify - the Scottish, Norwegian and Russian are what make up my heritage. Combined they make me a Canadian because my ancestors were European settlers from Scotland, Norway and Russia that came here over 100 years ago. The reality is that the first Canadians are the Native Indians who were here long before the rest of us showed up and took over their land. It’s funny because as proud as most Canadians are, the reality is that our not so brilliant ancestors thought it was okay to sail over here and take over what is now known as North America. I love my country and what it has become, but have mixed feelings over our past, although I’m sure at the time the great European explorers thought it was the right thing to do and didn’t question themselves.

Nowadays the world is so small that I tend to think of us all as just really being a global community of one. The idea that we’ve all parcelled up our land and slapped down borders on this planet kind of cracks me up for some reason. It seems almost absurd in light of the fact that we’re all hurtling through space on this little planet together in the middle of a huge universe with no other life forms to be found.

I love our differences but take much greater pleasure in our commonalities :-)

E! News confirmed Tuesday that the five-time Grammy winner and hubby Jordan Bratman are expecting their first child together. This will be baby number one for both.

There was no immediate comment from a publicist for the couple.

Deciding that there wasn’t no other man for her after about three years of dating, Aguilera and her music-marketing exec other half swapped vows in November 2005 in Napa Valley, California.

She has a stunt woman that has worked with her in every movie. Some of the stuff she has done herself but almost all of the harder stuff is with this stunt woman and they film just parts of Angelina doing parts to edit in.
