OlderIsaiah Washington: Patrick Dempsey Made Me Use the F-word
Isaiah Washington is blaming co-star Patrick Dempsey’s lateness to the Grey’s Anatomy set for the “brawl” that riled Washington up enough to use a homophobic slur.
Washington spoke up about his experience on Larry King Live and explains that he “regretted not confronting Dempsey the first time he was late, so he challenged him the second time.”
On Dempsey first erupting: “He became unhinged, sprayed spittle in my face. I’m asking him why is he screaming at me. … He just becomes irate.”
On Knight claiming the slur was directed at him: “It’s a lie. He misrepresented himself.” (He says he used the term “faggot” as a synonym for “wimp”.)
On Knight lying to advance his career and to get more money: “He has been very disappointed in playing the character he has been playing. He told me that.”
On repeating the slur backstage at the Golden Globe Awards: “I wish I could take that back.”
On defending his actions: “I am not homophobic – in no way, shape or form.”
Washington fought back years when King asked if any cast members had written to him. Only Sandra Oh had sent him an email…

Isaiah has been railroaded. Yeah, it may not be politically correct to use the term ******, but I have heard much worse said about gays. Patrick Dempsey could have helped the situation too. Both of them were obviously angry and it probably has something to do with Dempsey’s character being overshawdowed. There are 2 things I blame Isaiah for
1-Being caught up in the moment at the Golden Globes and saying he did not call TR a ******!-He could have left it alone.
2-Not remembering the truth. It is a race thing! It’s not necessarily racial on the part of ABC, but hey it’s racial. Shonda Rhimes knows it too-she didn’t want him to get fired, but she has NO power-she wants her check and her relationship to continue with powerful ABC- Isaiah forgot that he was a N*GG*R-No matter who you are and how much money you have you will still just be a N*GG*R- Let me tell you-if you have a situation where it is between you and a white co-worker-you will always be wrong-I was PUSHED-Literally PUSHED by a white co-worker who let me know without question that Blacks were inferior to whites and he hoped to GOD his precious little girl never got involved with one-well when I brought it to the attention of both our superiors they said-well, he’s very smart and we really need him on board-please try to get along with him!!!-
Another smart co-worker told me the following joke-how do you get black kids to stop jumping on the bed??? Put velcro on the ceiling!-What do you call a black brain surgeon??? A N*GG*R-They laughed and laughed-when I didn’t crack a smile, they were like, “h have a sense of humor you know we’re just kidding-I went to EEOC (WHAT A JOKE) without their knowledge-they told me-it’s heresay-
So I know there are a lot of white people who really really do not hate blacks and who try to be fair-but honestly-this is how it is and Isaiah should have known better-Look at all the comments about how he’s committing career suicide. Why is that? Why is it you can’t speak your mind on Larry King without committing career suicide-other WHITE actors do-And another thing-remember the black guy that won the Apprentice? Randal Pinkett-Of all the winners, why is it when he won Donald gave him the option of letting the girl be the co-winner with him? Bill and Kwame were close competition, but it wasn’t an option-the smartest thing Randal did was start his on business while in school-he didn’t need Trump and he didn’t suck up-Isaiah acts as if Grey’s was the only show around-I will NOT watch it anymore-not because of that, but it was boring
Oh please. Just shut up Washington! I don’t believe a single thing he says. He’s had history of violent and hot temper in work place. His scuffle w/ Dempsey wasn’t the first one he has. I don’t think he was fired because of what he said, though I am sure it contributed to the decision. He was fired because he created an uncomfortalbe working environment (for the love of me, I cannot seem to remember the actual term for it) :) Anyhow, that’s my two cents. And, I would have been OK w/ the whole thing, except he then went on using a race card, which I think is VERY low…..

How anyone could of watched that interview last night and not see how much Washington resents Dempsey. He thinks he’s better then Dempsey and resented the attention Dempsey received from the show.
He was fired because he was a disgruntled employee who didn’t follow the rules of the company. Period.

Get a grip. Washington ran up against the gay community which was willing to work with him but that’s not what he wanted and he proved that with his comment at the GG’s. Washington F’d up. That’s on him. It has nothing to do with black, white, yellow or green. It has to do with his own behavior.

This is an interesting mental picture-because I would have beat the hell out of white patrick dempsey in my face trying to hand me a cup of STFU- and it wouldn’t be about jealousy-it would be about a life full of having white patrick dempsey’s in my face handing me a cup of STFU-If Rhimes had any backbone she would turn in her resignation and go write for NBC-
If I remember correctly Washington auditioned for the role of Derrick and didn’t get it. Then, Shonda wrote the role of Burke specifically for Isaiah. So, I think his resentment of Patrick goes way deeper then Dempsey supposedly being late for a scene.

This incident was about three men. Men, not colors. Dempsey took issue with Washington, his behavior and his words aimed at TR Knight. If anything Dempsey should be applauded for not sititng down and shutting up

I really think you aren’t understanding that he wasn’t fired for what he said even if that’s what the media focused on. Isaiah Washington was let go because of his behavior. He created an enviroment that was uncomfortable. It appears they were all ready to move on and then he slipped up and denied at the Golden Globes saying ******. ABC/Disney couldn’t count on him and he was a liability for the show.
I thought it interesting on LK last night that Washington said he had problems that he needed to look at and King mentioned his need to be “the boss” Washington also said some sketchy things like talking about a councilmen in his district that was ‘very gay’.

It might be a generational thing because I remember growing up and my older sister and her friends used to call each other f*ggots or f*gs all the time and it wasn’t meant as a homosexual term but one like Washington claims he meant.

Some people place Isaiah there with Michael Richards, but except for use of deplorable language, Richards was already typecasted and not working; Isaiah has talent and can go further, and it won’t be limited to BET productions either.
Isaiah will be fine, and that what galls some people. Too bad; you should’ve put him on a pedestal; then his fall would’ve been more devastating and permanent.

I live in Austria and here the third season is shown (if you receive the Swiss channel at least). I’ve not missed any episode yet. But as Isaiah Washington as Dr. Burke is one of my favorite characters on the show this might change.
I think from the male cast he is the one who can act. Maybe he is difficult as a person in private or to work with, but honestly - I don’t care! I love to see him in this part, it’s fitting him so perfectly. The makers of this show will regret their decision. Firing the one male actor who is best acting is not a very good idea.
Also want to say they concentrate too much on Ellen Pompeo/Meredith, as she (as actress) is really weak and cannot carry her part into some depth. Here they just had the show where she was almost drowned, and personally I would not have miss her. After watching so many episodes already one would think you should be hanging at the edge of your seat, but I was not at all. I was surprised how cold these scenes left me. Maybe - to not let her end so drastically - she could move away into another city together with her McDreamy (so not mine, and if he was the last man on earth LOL) and they could live happy ever after there (and out of my sight please).
Just a hint to the writers: As a huge (ex-?)fan of this show I want to see more of Chandra Wilson, Sandra Oh, Kate Walsh, Katherine Heigl and Sara Ramirez with the girls, and with the guys: Dr. Burke please! And a little Justin Chambers who’s Dr. Alex Karev has developed from an arrogant guy into some likable character, and let Dr. Webber stay in his office.
