Get your facts straight. Oscar was adopted before Hugh became famous so they had neither money or connections at that time. I wonder why they went all the way to the US to adopt instead of doing it in OZ?

No. Hugh has said that when he got the call to go audition in Toronto for Wolverine (filming had already started) that he was in LA because they were starting the adoption process.

Jackman is nice looking, but he doesn’t appeal to me. He emanated sex appeal when I first laid eyes on him in the first XMEN, but after that, he ruined my fantasy. I thought he was going to be a rugged, masculine actor, but he seems soft, especially after playing the gay man. He has no mystery.

Ducky, thank you. I am feeling better today. And yes, when my “inner Lucy” takes over, I am as nutters as can be. And believe it or not, I do have a life apart from the Jackmans. I know that some of you feel my life is 24/7 The Jackmans because of my long posts defending them against the nastiness. Nah. As a writer, my thoughts fly pretty fast and I type about 85 words a minute. It takes more of my time to read all of your posts, than it does to type mine. As for a restraining order. I have met and talked with Hugh and Deb on several occasions and believe it or not, they survived the ordeal and no additional security was required (frankly, I’m not big enough to threaten a piss ant).

And thank you roadtrain for the compliment. I am attempting a writing career, but I’ve got a long way to go. A good writer can get their point across with an economy of words and as we have all witnessed here, that is still a struggle for me.

And Tink, I believe I did have my facts straight. At the time of their son’s birth (May 2000), the American public may not have known who Hugh Jackman was as X-Men would not be released for another two months, but he was certainly known in London and Australia. He was a sensation in Oklahoma!, receiving an “Oliver” nomination (their equivilant of our Tony) and had been named “Star of the Year” (or something like that) in Australia where he had already won their Tony and had been nominated Best Actor by the Australian Film Institute (their Oscar). By the time of that child’s birth, he already had two American films in the can (including X-Men) and was about to begin his third; Swordfish with John Travolta. So, I think at he had a few nickles in the bank.

As for his connections at that time. When Harvey Weinstein saw him in Oklahoma!, he was impressed to such a degree that he went backstage and told him, “I’m gonna put ya in the movies, kid.” (it was also Harvey who wrote Deb the check for her short film and told her, “go make a movie, kid.”). Would anyone argue that Harvey Weinstein is one of the most powerful men in that business? And he is a tremendous supporter of the Jackmans and even lays claim to discovering Hugh, because he saw him first in Oklahoma! Also at the time of Oscar’s birth, he was already signed with Endeavor and was a client of one of the biggest agents in town, Patrick Whitesell. The public may have been unaware of who Hugh Jackman was, but he was certainly known within the industry.

As to why they adopted in the U.S.? Perhaps their very good friends, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman (who were still Mr.& Mrs. at the time and whom the Jackmans had known for years **Deb has known Nicole longer than she’s known Hugh**), who were also adoptive parents of American born children, guided them in the adoption process here. I don’t know. But to say that they had no money and no connections in the business at the time of their son’s birth, is incorrect. He just wasn’t famous in America yet.

So could they have bought a “white” baby if they’d wanted one? Yeah, I think they probably could have. They specifically requested a “multi-racial” child because of the NEED to find homes for them. So this talk of them straightening the boy’s hair because of some racial issue, is not only ridiculous…IT’S INSULTING!!!
