On Comment #22, Oh God, here we go again! Why does everybody have to assume most male actors that, are hot and single are gay, gay, GAY?! Let’s assume he, probably hasen’t found the right woman for him yet or, does not feel like settling down yet. Mabye, deep down he desires he’s beloved Rose (Kate Winslet). Kidding. lol! I know Giselle and him looked very serious for a while and, then KABOOM-the major breakup. I think both just didn’t want to make a commitment. Marriage takes a lot of effort, patience and work! Can’t really blaim the one’s that don’t want to commit. You get married, punch out a couple of kids. You’re busy taking care of the kids. Sex, is last on the list. There’s a chance the wifey becomes a fridgadare, or frightening to most men. The wife becomes a big fat, greasy cow. Environmentalists are bigger zealots than the gas guzzling republicans so take whatever both say with a pinch of salt. Global warming was happening way before industrialisation began so many scientists are certain global warming itself is a natural occurance and not man made. I am on the fence myself, so I am not gonna go green just because some celebrities tell me to.

Your diversionary tactics will not work. You are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts. It is a FACT that Global Warming is taking place whether you want to believe it or not. Thankfully, a majority of scientists have already admitted as much. Most are not arguing over whether or not GW is taking place because that is pretty much a given. They are trying to hash out what the effects will be. Al Gore is a noble man fighting to bring attention to a worthy cause. You may not like the messenger, but that is no excuse for you not to heed the message. I know of no one who is placing the blame for GW on the middle class. We ALL live on Earth together, therefore we ALL should be stewards of it. Even if this is a hoax, which it certainly is not, what is the harm in conserving energy and being less wasteful? This is the only home we have. What do you think would happen to us if we allowed it to be destroyed? Why don’t you ask more urgent and relevant questions such as: Why aren’t the oil companies doing more to reduce pollution created by their refineries? Why aren’t gas companies quickly developing alternative fuels that burn cleaner thus reducing greenhouse gasses? Why won’t all car manufacturers increase the miles cars get per gallon of gas to a more reasonable and efficient number? Why did the Bush White House let their energy industry cronies write the energy policy for the USA? Why are Exxon Mobile and other such companies reporting BILLIONS of dollars in profits while gas prices continue to soar leaving most people in this country with no choice but to pinch pennies and/or work overtime to keep gas in their tanks and food on their tables? Ask yourself, WHO is profiting from all of that? In the past, I spent many days defending the intelligence of my fellow Americans to my foreign friends. However, you just reminded me why I stopped. When I am not busy living life, I sometimes come to JJ to kick back, celeb watch, and enjoy a bit of light-hearted fluff for a change as I’m sure most on this site do; but I couldn’t let you get away with that. Now back to the subject at hand…Leo is so cute!

Leo is awesome. Not only is he one of the best actors right now, he is doing his part to make the world a better place. He has been very vocal about environmental issues. I get the impression that so many celebs just write a check to a random charity every couple of months without being actively involved. Leo seems dedicated to bringing attention to the issues and using his fame in a positive way. I have a lot of respect for him!

Alessandra only scientists on a big payroll say global warming is a fact. and 99% is a dubios figure. currently the scientific community is split so its more 50-50. Granted, there are persuasive arguments on both sides however, I for one dont believe we are all doomed since the scientific community is unusure themselves despite the environmentalists claiming global warming has been proven because take it from someone in the industry..it hasn’t so forgive me if I am sceptical. Both sides have a lot of money to make, thats the only fact, so expect this scientific tug of war to last a while.

Acutaly your wrong Didi, the scientific comunity is not split it is the westerm media that gives voice to the .0001 percent of anti-gloabal warming scientist because they think to be otherwise would be ‘unbalanced’ reporting. That minority of opinion has lots of money behind them just to make sure they are heard and that we will be unsure in our resolve. Al Gore only reported the consensus of what most
‘responsible’ scientist know to be a fact.

Regarding the Global Warming - who knows the truth. Some say it’s proven, others say it’s not. Fact is that what we are doing to the environment can’t be right. I’d say it’s very likely our wasteful way of living influences our atmosphere and weather and it’s for sure not good. No matter if Global Warming is happening, everyone should do his and her best to reduce waste,gas and energy costs as much as possible and recycle anything that’s recyclable. Leo, you’re the best!!

I support the fight against global warming and more power to celebs who genuinely support the cause, but i still can’t stand Leo. To me he’ll always be the spoiled brat he used to be. Gahhhh! Wish I could have been there!!!! The concerts generated good energy. People complain about paying more $$$ for gasoline or when the price of heating a house goes up. We complain when we have to pay more for clothing and food. Think about it. Everything depends on transportation. Everything. If the price of oil goes up, the price of gasoline goes up. So airlines, and trucks that transport people and freight and food, will charge more. In the end, all these costs are passed on to us. And the corporations make “windfall” profits. It’s a no brainer.

Here we go again.

Please people, please, please get educated on the issue of AGW (anthropogenic global warming).

There is too much silly cherry-picked rhetoric on both sides of the issue. You cannot point to an individual year and say: “Wow, it is really hot this year.. global warming is happeneing!” Observing AGW and ramifications is a matter of watching TRENDS not individual events.

Likewise, you cannot pull out a couple of articles by authors of questionable credentials that support your pre-conceived conclusions. This is how the detractors are still maintaining the tiny foothold they have left in the argument. That and the media feels the need to present a “balanced argument” giving naysayers a disproportional amount of time (comparing to scientific consensus).

My spouse is an actual scientist who’s work is directly related climate change issues. She lectures and gives seminars on the subject. I can say unequivocally, the people here saying AGW is not happening are completely full of s**t. And don’t event start about her being motivated by her source of money for research. You have to be in love with your job or insane to do this job for how hard she works and how much she makes.

Of course there is disagreement w/in the scientific community. Not all facts and factors are clear as the systems and feedback loops are so incredibly complicated but there are a many many things that are indisputable atm.

Fact: AGW is occuring. It is a combination of natural cycles and human industrial induced factors.
Fact: Human contribution is the prevailing factor. We ARE causing a enormous acceleration in the RATE of warming.
Fact: Not all areas of the earth will warm. The 2 largest issues resulting from AGW are raising sea levels, which are going to displace millions of people in low laying areas of the world. Mostly these people are going to be in socio-economically depressed areas that will cause many issues. Secondly is the disruption of known weather patterns. Things are going to shift in such a relatively quick manner (~30 to 50 years) that it is going to be very difficult to adapt current agricultural activities.

Seriously, folks quit prattling off about what you have no virtually nothing about get educated. A good place to start is RealClimate (http://www.realclimate.org). It is a blog written by actual climate scientists with excellent discussion. The posts can be thick with science but stick with it and you’ll get the picture. Not to mention that the quickly disseminate and debunk all the garbage put out there.

Again, folks, please please take some time and get educated on the issue. Quit reading the claptrap in the papers that have an unclear bias (either way). Go to the sources…. why people are so skeptical of real science is beyond me. That’s not how science works.

Question: Why are you here again? This is a celebrity website and certainly sounds like you need to be on another site. Bottom-line is everyone needs to be more aware of what we should and shouldn’t be doing when it comes to preserving the earth. You go a head continue try to steer people clear from trying to clean up our environment, not sure what selfish reason you may have for that? I’m responding to the false information presented in several previous comments. Celeb blog? Yes. A story about a concert raising awareness of AGW where false information is being disseminated is a perfectly legitimate place to enjoin the conversation…on topic.

Would my comment have been more legitimate had i started with something like: “Gawwwwd I can’t tell you how much I love Leo! I met him once when he was campaigning with Kerry and had a short discussion on Global Warming! It was so surreal!!1!!”

Michael Crichton’s “State of Fear”

This book has been thoroughly discredited and debunked by the scientific community. By those that are actually doing the research.

Crichton has no scientific credentials, has never published any peer reviewed research on the issue. All real science goes through vigorous peer review. His suggestions and conclusions violate just about tenet of the scientific method. He a science hack.

He achieves his results the same way that most dissenters do. They cherry pick data that fit their own pre-conceived conclusions. You cannot take individual points of a graph and say “See, these people publishing this are crazy!” This is not how science works. Scientists don’t make moral judgments (in their research). Sure they can tell what they think that their scientific results may “mean” but it is opinion. The scientific method has nothing to do with opinion. Only observational data that is used to build predictive models that incorporate a percentage of probability.

I always encourage people to get information from multiple sources, but please pay close attention to those sources. Crichton has no scientific credibility.

I created the Internet and I made up Global Warming shortly after that. I now rest, fatass that I am.
