How ironic is it that some Jolie-Pitt fans o this blog recommended that they stay in one of those grand homes or chateauxs in France and voila, there they are. Some people really “get” the Jolie-Pitts.

I hope they have fun. I can’t wait to leave for vacation myself soon.

Hey Estelle,
I saw Hairspray and it was pretty good. I never saw the musical, but I did see the original movie and I liked it so I gave this one a chance. I liked what the writers did to the Tracy and Edna characters; in the musical, Tracy was a decidedly sunnier, more optimistic person than in the 1988 movie and that sunshiny disposition completely won me over. And the Edna character… well, her esteem was decidedly lower than in the 1988 movie, but she did convey the feeling of some overweight people who are so scared and hurt by what people would say about them that they lock themselves away from the world. I’m not sure if Travolta was a good choice for this part, but then again, my feelings are colored by the fact that I loved Divine in the original. And that Zac Efron guy… he is a cutie in this movie. I don’t blame Tracy for mooning over him. There is something about a man donning retro clothes; that’s what got me interested in Jude Law when he was in The Talented Mr. Ripley.

Some of the cast members from the 1988 movie made cameos– I’m not going to reveal who. Plus, I think I’ll need to see it again in order to make sure that my count was correct. I liked that it had an irreverant sense of humor about the sixties, which I hope John Waters appreciates. Of course, they could never go as far as John Waters in his heyday, but some of the humor made me smile. And TBS showed the original Hairspray late last night and I was surprised at how closely the musical stayed true to the movie, although I was disappointed that in the climax, there was no roach dress.

All and all, the movie was energetic and entertaining- much better than Dreamgirls because you cared more for the characters. I did find it funny that some of my fellow Black people came to the movie, probably for the integration storyline, and didn’t know that ‘Edna’ was supposed to be played by a man; they complained, out loud, that a woman should’ve played the part. :roll: Clearly, they had no idea about the original movie. However, they were won over by it.

I didn’t love it, maybe because the night before, I saw Ratatouille and I LOVED IT!!!!!, but I certainly liked it. Like Nikki Blonsky as Tracy and for the first time, I actually liked an Amanda Bynes performance; I finally saw the charm and humor that people have said that she had.

And Michelle Pfeiffer… despite the way that they had her made up like a former beauty queen clutching her former, ill-gotten glory too tight, was so profoundly beautiful. Seriously… so gorgeous. And I was so glad to see her back on the silver screen. Christopher Walken was so sweet and kinda oblivious, but very dear as Wilber.

The integration storyline was great; loved the way that the black kids were portrayed; normal, frustrated, but unwilling to let the racism ruin them. And Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybell… loved it too. I liked Ruth Brown, but Queen Latifah brought another kind of authority to it.

As a whole, the casting was pretty good. I’m still lukewarm about Travolta, but I loved him during the You Can’t Stop the Beat climax.

It is worth seeing.

Oh yeah, back to how Maniston put Brad into a f*cking coma of boredom whenever he came within 2 feet of her.From the salad she ate on the friends set for 10 years running, to pilates, to what a pain it was avoiding wearing the same outfit more than once, to her incessant hair and nail talk with her hens…Brad was slowly becoming an empty shell of a man….

Thank GOD for Angelina, as he RECENTLY SAID, he is a NEW MAN, artistically, passionately, and personally. The man dying of boredom in this pic, is NO MORE. Thanks be to Jeebus. LMAO
