OlderSniff Shiloh, Smell Great
Angelina Jolie recently dropped her legal battle with a perfume-maker who plans to name a fragrance Shiloh (her daughter’s name).
According to The Washington Post, Angie filed a note with the U-S Patent and Trademark Office earlier this year.
The Israeli/French perfume-maker, Symine Salimpour, indicated she was inspired by the Hebrew meaning of Shiloh, “his gift,” and not Angie and Brad Pitt’s 13-month-old daughter.
Salimpour can now name the perfume as she pleases and has promised to donate five per cent of the profits to an Israeli organization that provides medical and educational services for disabled children.
Says Salimpour, “[The trademark battle] was just a huge misunderstanding. And besides having a baby named Shiloh — because this perfume, it is my baby — we can say we have two other things in common: We believe in human rights, and we love Brad Pitt!”

If you notice perfume is always attached to a pic of Nicole Kidman, Gwen, big name celebrities (marketing strategy), always the endorsement from big name celebrities. Sure, this perfume may get publicity. But without Shiloh’s pic attached to it, it wont sell well . I wont worry about it.
I don’t see anything wrong with the lawsuit – wanting to protect our kids is a natural thing for parents. Besides, the name Shiloh is automatically associated with Angelina and Brad thus generating tons of free publicity.

Tabloid Reported That Couple Bought A Home In German City
A rep for Brad Pitt says tells The ShowBuzz that recent reports that he and his brood are relocating to Berlin are “not true.”
On July 28, London’s Mirror newspaper reported that the couple and their children — Maddox, 5, Pax. 3, Zahara, 2 and Shiloh, 1 — are planning to move to Berlin where they have bought a home.
Recent tabloid focus has been on Jolie’s weight after the “Mighty Heart” star appeared dangerously thin in paparazzi photos, according to CBS.
The newspaper says that the actor confided to a pal: “I want Angelina to settle down somewhere out of the limelight. She’s lost a lot of weight recently, and our plans are strictly to do with our move to Berlin.”
The Mirror says Pitt bought a house in Berlin and plans to design another one close to Potsdam.
“Berlin is so quiet and balanced, away from paparazzi,” Pitt reportedly told his friend.
Earlier this year, Jolie told reporters that she plans to take a year off from filmmaking to spend more time with Pitt and their children.

What is it with some critics saying she doesn’t love her child? Seriously, unless you know them (which couldn’t be the case) why presume to act like you know that’s the case? Because of a transcribed blurb in a article? I’ve read it and she NEVER said anything remotely close.

I am now in Aix en Provance at language school which is good but challenging. Not much to report as yet apart from my major celebrity sighting yesterday - we were having lunch at a restaurant close to our school and the waitress told us that brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie & Shiloh were at the pattiserie next door. Of course I had to check it out so went & bought something & it was indeed them!!! She is quite skinny & was waeqring a black dress & sunnies, and he had a hat & sunnies on. The baby is gorgeous (of course) and

interstingly they were alone - no body guards or paparazzi. For this reason I didnt take any photos. Its interesting tho - if they can get time alone it does mean that it IS possible to get away from cameras, but maybe its just in France. Anyway, we saw them pack up their car & drive away, just like any other family. And yes it was them, I saw her tattoos & heard her speak to Shiloh.

I am now in Aix en Provance at language school which is good but challenging. Not much to report as yet apart from my major celebrity sighting yesterday - we were having lunch at a restaurant close to our school and the waitress told us that brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie & Shiloh were at the pattiserie next door. Of course I had to check it out so went & bought something & it was indeed them!!! She is quite skinny & was waeqring a black dress & sunnies, and he had a hat & sunnies on. The baby is gorgeous (of course) and

interstingly they were alone - no body guards or paparazzi. For this reason I didnt take any photos. Its interesting tho - if they can get time alone it does mean that it IS possible to get away from cameras, but maybe its just in France. Anyway, we saw them pack up their car & drive away, just like any other family. And yes it was them, I saw her tattoos & heard her speak to Shiloh.

For all the haters who can’t seem to understand why Angie filed this suit: The perfume wasn’t even heard of until AFTER Shiloh was born. When you think of Shiloh, what comes to mind? Yes, I know there are many things named Shiloh and that it is a Biblical name, however, at this time, most people think of Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt when the name is heard.
Therefore, it is only NATURAL for Angie & Brad (just because his name was not on the petition, doesn’t mean he wasn’t concerned) to question whether or not it was a publicity stunt.

There are people and companies that will use celebrity names to make money and fool people into thinking the celebrity has something to do w/ it. Priscillar Presley and her attorneys spent years suing people using Elvis name and image to make money for themselves. I am an attorney and used to research the names on the web for any similarities. Then I would send an attorney letter to cease and desist. I did not need to ask my client each time I did that.If they had valid legal reasons to use then we would back off. It is part of the trademark process. Yes, even common names used in certain ways can be trademark. Apple, any one. The Beatles and Apple computers have been locked in battle for years over a name that is quite common, yet it was trademarked by both of them.

She will next work with Clint Eastwood in a film and then take a year off from making movies to devote more time to her family. She is known and well respected world wide as a humanitarian, a sincere supporter of children’s rights, works with the new British PM on children’s issues, hobnobs with the real movers and shakers power people in the world. She will continue to get movie offers as she is unique.
But above all that Angelina values her family, her Brad and their four kids. They are an inseparable package. They love being together. They do not waste their time denigrating anyone like you attempt to do because they have good hearts.

Andromeda, Hi ya back how are you? I had a wonderful time in Turkey, but I was very busy, I had one relative after another visiting. Don’t get me wrong it was a joy to be with all of them but there were times I would just say OK I am not cooking today, you guys are in charge of the kitchen and I would take off too the beach :lol: I know, I know I can be BAD :-)

Hey, just on for a sec. But no previews as far as I’m aware. They’re still filming the talky stuff at the moment, but some of the car chase sequences this week in Chi, I’m told. I asked why there wasn’t a trailer at SDCC and they said they just didn’t have any of the big FX stuff ready to show yet. I think the first trailer is out in what Americans call The Fall.
Release date is March 28th and all looks spiffy. Saw 25 mins of assorted scenes and it looked bloody great.

He says your test results came back and you’ve got a severe case of Full-of-Shititis. Ok, first of all, I would just like to say that it doesn’t help poor little Angie that half her “fans” on here can’t spell. This has nothing to do w/ arrogance. The practice is once you trademark anything you are responsible for protecting it. There are people and companies that will use celebrity names to make money and fool people into thinking the celebrity has something to do w/ it. Priscillar Presley and her attorneys spent years suing people using Elvis name and image to make money for themselves. I am an attorney and used to research the names on the web for any similarities. Then I would send an attorney letter to cease and desist. I did not need to ask my client each time I did that.If they had valid legal reasons to use then we would back off. It is part of the trademark process. Yes, even common names used in certain ways can be trademark. Apple, any one. The Beatles and Apple computers have been locked in battle for years over a name that is quite common, yet it was trademarked by both of them.
As for the riculous and unhinged haters of Ms. Jolie, unless you have a law degree and specialize in intellectual property you don’t know what you are talking about.

I am now in Aix en Provance at language school which is good but challenging. Not much to report as yet apart from my major celebrity sighting yesterday - we were having lunch at a restaurant close to our school and the waitress told us that brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie & Shiloh were at the pattiserie next door. Of course I had to check it out so went & bought something & it was indeed them!!! She is quite skinny & was waeqring a black dress & sunnies, and he had a hat & sunnies on. The baby is gorgeous (of course) and interstingly they were alone - no body guards or paparazzi. For this reason I didnt take any photos. Its interesting tho - if they can get time alone it does mean that it IS possible to get away from cameras, but maybe its just in France. Anyway, we saw them pack up their car & drive away, just like any other family. And yes it was them, I saw her tattoos & heard her speak to Shiloh.

I’m a lawyer but I dont’ specialise in IP law. However, even I know that it isn’t necessary to register a name as a trademark to take action under the tort of Passing Off.
Here is a couple of snippets from Wikipedia:
Passing off is a common law tort which can be used to enforce UNREGISTERED trademark rights. Passing off essentially occurs where the reputation of party A is misappropriated by party B, such that party B misrepresents this reputation and damages the goodwill of party A.

Now it seems Angelina was concerned that people might think that she and Brad in some way endorsed the perfume by allowing its name Shiloh to be used. Both Brad and Angelina would be concerned that is not the case.

Hackers Promise ‘Nude Angelina Jolie’ Pics to Plant Malware

AUGUST 2, 2007 | A security company is warning IT managers and users that hackers are tempting people to open malicious e-mail attachments by promising them pictures of naked actresses, like Angelina Jolie.
Sophos reported Thursday that a widespread spam campaign purports to contain shocking nude pictures of several different actresses, including Jolie, Nicole Kidman, and Natalie Portman. The attachment actually contains a rootkit and the Dloadr-BCP Trojan. It does not, however, contain any photos.
The Dloadr-BCP Trojan, which affects the Windows platform, pulls in more malware from the Internet and drops it into the infected computer. Hours after discovering it, Sophos gave the malware a low-to-medium prevalence rating.
“These e-mails are masquerading as pornographic content, tempting the unwary into opening a file on their Windows computer which will install a rootkit and download further malicious code from the internet,” said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos, in a written statement. “This kind of social engineering trick is nothing new. In fact, it has been used so often by cybercriminals that it sometimes feels like it’s been around since the days of the silent movies. However, that hasn’t stopped it from being an effective way to fool many people into running code designed to allow hackers to break into computers.”
Sophos researchers reported spotting the spam attack Thursday.
The body of the e-mail message is generally similar to this one: “Good day, dear. Shocking photos of nude Nicole Kidman. See it in your attachment.”
The e-mail messages contain a single ZIP attachment, which is called amazing.zip, according to Sophos. The attachment holds one executable — shocking.exe.
This isn’t a new trick.
This past April, hackers launched a spam campaign to take advantage of the .ANI vulnerability by promising nude pictures of Britney Spears to lure users to malicious sites. In the past, names of other celebrities, like Paris Hilton, Halle Berry, and Jennifer Lopez, have been used similarly.
