Deadbeat daddy Eddie Murphy defends himself to Entertainment Tonight via a statement on his behalf.
“Eddie Murphy always has and will continue to honor his responsibilities as a father. Mr. Murphy and Ms. Brown dated very briefly and never made any plans of ANY sort. He acknowledges paternity of the child Angel, and has paid child support to Ms. Brown as well as covering the expenses of her pregnancy. Mr. Murphy views this as a private matter and as such, will not be making any further comments about it.”
In a press conference earlier this week, Mel B’s attorney Gloria Allred alleged that Eddie has not paid a penny in financial support.

Where do women get off thinking it is the man’s TOTAL responsibility to prevent pregnancy? It is a woman’s responsibility to own their body and take responsibility for how they use it. It’s (both) a man and woman’s responsibility to use protection in the prevention of the AIDS virus! Women, also, have the legal right and privilege in the United States to have early term abortion and should if they are unmarried. We have too many dysfunctional and fatherless families due to sexual promiscuity and lack of responsibility in the United States.
Women on here in support of Melanie Brown’s use of the media to gain what she wants (excessive MONIES via Gloria Allred) and attempts to destroy Eddie Murphy’s professional comeback have no insight into how life nor relationships with men should work. Melanie Brown is the cause of Eddie Murphy not receiving the Academy Award last year for “Dreamgirls” wherein he had received the highest recognition in the Globe Awards and all others. This same woman was five-months pregnant when she married the father of her first daughter and then divorced him one year later.
She has nothing of which to be proud….
Real men, love and support any child….there are so many examples of men who do that for kids who are their biological kids.

But, this Gloria Alred thing, this could have definitely been done in private. There was no reason for a press conference. They’re just out for publicity.
Plus…isn’t Brown kind of a hypocrite. She said she wants him to be a part of her daughter’s life, yet she wants sole legal and physical custody of THEIR child. So, she wants the money, but she doesn’t want to share custody. If I were Eddie, I would sue for at least partial custody.

Actually the Acadamy VOTERS had everything to do with Eddie not getting the award, nothing more, nothing less. If you haven’t noticed most men (and women)seldom receive their academy when they actually should, they get it years later for a lesser known film, for example Denzel should have received his for his work in Philadelphia, Glory or Malcom X, instead he received it for Training Day!

When two equally talented performers (performances) are nominated for the same award,the academy voters tend to vote for the older of the two nominees, as a means to recognize a body of work as well as an individual’s performance.
I’m from the San Francisco Bay Area and Eddie was caught in a VERY well-known area for trannies/prostitutes. As a matter of fact, he has filmed at least 3 or 4 movies in the Bay AREA BECAUSE of this very well-known area. Another 48 Hours, Golden Child (I think), Metro, and Beverly Hills Cop 3 (my cousin was an extra on Beverly Hills Cop 3 set!).

Sure, anyone in the “public eye” such as actors or actresses, politicians, singers, and sports celebrities are always under the magnifying glass for one reason or another, but bottom line, they’re people, just like the rest of us. My only problem with all this is people should realize who he/she really is before they get married and have children. All this just creates too many problems for their ex’s and their children. To me, no one chooses to be gay or straight. Who would CHOOSE to be riduculed and chastized their whole lives? My advice is to not make matters worse by making a family and then choosing to commit adultery and having a same-sex relationship on the “down-low!”

Anyone remember Eddie’s juvenile departure from the Oscar ceremonies because he didn’t win? Or better yet, his expression caught on camera when he didn’t win? Priceless. This guy’s a pratt. finally Eddie admits paternity but what bugs me about that statement is him saying “THE child” not our child or my daughter, THE child likes she’s a piece of meat or property.
colormecrazy - I agree but you can’t force them to parent BUT, you can force them to support. She didn’t impregnate herself and he shouldn’t be allowed to walk away like nothing happened. Without DNA he would still be implying she’s a liar or a gold digger. She obviously isn’t going after all he’s got or demanding visitation…but he made a baby and needs to pitch in for support…and it has nothing to do with how much she makes. It takes two to make a baby and it should take two to support the baby. Courts may allow him to be lazy but she needs to persist in getting that support for the baby. Even with having to support 6 kids now, there is no guarantee he has learned to keep his pants on.

A good father doesn’t just make babies to leave with a woman to raise while he sends her money. A good father SHOWS RESPECT for his children by staying with their mother and spending quality time with them.

Melanie got pregnant on purpose, to trap Eddie. They were only dating 4 mths. I don’t believe the baby was planned, you don’t know somebody well enough after just 4 mths to even consider having a baby together.
Mel has an 8 year old daughter, Phoenix. She has dated a lot of men since she was born, how come she didn’t get pregnant by any of them? Because she was careful, she used protection.
Mel left England, moved to Hollywood, to try and have a successful acting career. She was a flop though! She will never be an actress! Then she meets Eddie Murphy - a mega famous, multi-millionaire! She totally trapped him to get money and to raise her profile in America! It is so obvious. Come on guys, she met Eddie’s ex-wife at The Ivy, a paparrazzi infested resturant. How tacky and attention seeking can you get!
To the people saying she is a multi-millionaire, she isn’t. Spice Girls have done nothing in 7 years, and they didn’t earn that much each. Remember, they were a manufactured girl group, who didn’t write their own songs!!! I am sure Mel B’s spice girl earnings are long gone at this stage.
