L.A. Galaxy midfielder David Beckham officially announced at a press conference on Saturday that he will not be playing in the soccer match against Toronto FC on Sunday.
Beckshas been out of commission with an ankle injury but was at practice early today, icing his sore spots.
Some 20,500 sports fans with tickets are going to be disappointed!
But there is some hope. Galaxy coach Frank Yallop was a little ambiguous and said will “probably not” play. “We’ll see,” he said. “He’s still pretty sore.”

this is complete and utter bullshit. becks shouldn’t even be here in Toronto. Yes, we want to see him play but this is just ridiculous. The ankle swells up due to all the air travel. he should be in LA resting up. He’s not some friggin show pony that they can just bring out to appease stupid “fans”. i dont know what the hell the Galaxy’s trying to pull.
Its their own bloody fault for playing him against Chelsea when he clearly wasnt fit. Now he’s probably going to miss Englands game against Germany too, which is a hige shame.
I hope his ankle heals up soon.

Some of you are so stupid, the guy is injured! Its not his fault he cant play, is Galaxys for pressuring him into playing so early against Chelsea. If they would of waited he would of been fit by now.
Good he is clearly not fit and I don’t know why they made him travel all that way. He is not a show pony, he is an athlete and should have been allowed to stay at home and recuperate like any normal athlete.

He only has a sprained ankle. Those take 6- 8 weeks to heal. Jesus. Go talk to athelets in America who tape their ankles up, put their cups on and get the hell out there and play. GMAFB.

If his ankle was that bad he’d be walking around with an air cast and he isn’t. He doesn’t even have the thing taped. I think he’s full of sh*t. If his ankle was that bad he’d have something on it to support it and help it’s healing. He doesn’t. There’s your answer. The Galaxy is only covering for him as is MLS. It makes them all look like the amateur sport that soccer is.
I swear, they pull this ankle bullsh!t (not that I think he’s faking it) when Galaxy comes here in Vancouver in October somebody is going to have a cow. I’ll demand my money back. Hell I know it’s a friendly but if he doesn’t play for a least 45 mins, I’ll still demand my money back.

If the pain was SO bad, he’d be at home with his leg up or we’d see pix of him coming in and out of physical therapy. We don’t. And, reports stated he was dancing at that party Tom ***** and Katie the Robot threw so if he’s in such pain, he’s doing a great job of hiding it. Wow, what part of sprained ankle don’t some people get?!?
He has had it wrapped and in ice packs for days. He is working on getting it better, going to the gym, etc. These sprains always take at least 6, but usually 8 weeks to heal. He isn’t superman!!!
And walking is different from running and kicking a ball and tackling!
