I selected to a criminal jury once. The trial lasted a week for a man we found guilty for armed robbery. At that time SA only paid something like $7 a day. I believe now they pay $45/day after the second day.

I would not think a typical DUI case would last more than a day or so.

August 9, 2007 - Actress Angelina Jolie, actor Brad Pitt and their entire family will call Chicago home for the next couple of weeks. Jolie is in town filming her latest movie, Wanted. The movie is using Chicago as a backdrop.

If you happen to pay attention to the tabloids, they’re reporting that there’s trouble with “Brangelina,” that Brad and Angelina might be breaking up. But the couple has been in town the past few days while Angelina is shooting her new movie, and not only is that exciting for celebrity watcher, it’s great for the local film industry.
Until now, the best way to see Angelina Jolie was in the movies. But there’s chance you’ll see her in person. The Oscar-winning actress is in town shooting her latest movie “Wanted” and is staying at the Peninsula Hotel, right off the Magnificent Mile. Brad Pitt and their four children are also calling the hotel home for the next two weeks. The prospect of seeing Jolie and Pitt is exciting for some tourists.

“We’re gonna keep our eyes open. We’re here shopping today, but we’re her to see the sights, but she’s part of the sights today,” said Charlie Caulkins, tourist.

Today, Jolie was spotted shopping Timeless Toys in Lincoln Square. We’re told that the actress and her daughter spent a half hour in the store Thursday morning while paparazzi waited outside, ordered to stay out by the owner, who was surprised by the actress’ visit.

“That’s neat. That means somebody downtown must be saying nice things about us,” said Harry Burrows, Timeless Toys.

The Illinois Film Office says a lot of nice things are said throughout the industry about Chicago, which is why the city is enjoying a boost in movie productions, including the Batman sequel “The Dark Knight, ” which will be shooting here through Labor Day.

“They frequent our restaurants and our hotels, and they help spread the word of what a wonderful place this is to work,” said Betsy Steinberg, Illinois Film Office.

Steinberg says part of what makes for a pleasant working environment is the fact that Chicagoans have more of a respect for privacy. Which brings us back to the Peninsula, a posh hotel with back entrances for quiet comings and goings, and perhaps a break from the paparazzi..

“I’m not really star struck. If I see them I’ll say hi and go on about my day,” said Fabian Lewis, fan of Angelina.

“She seems to be a great mother. She doesn’t leave them, she takes them, and I think her privacy is important to her and I don’t blame her,” said Madeleine Costello, fan of Angelina.

Angelina is reportedly shooting a scene from the movie, which also stars Morgan Freeman, Thursday in Berwyn. Freeman, by the way, is also shooting scenes from the Batman sequel, and Heath Ledger has also been spotted around town. He is playing the Joker in the “Dark Knight.”

i don’t want to get into the history,how ppl are selected bla bla, but anyone selected has to do it, its not optional, failure will result in the person being held in contempt of court, you can be excused but only if you have a valid reason because most ppl do try to get out of it, brad failed to get out of it so he has to do it.

Also if you do not show up for jury duty the Court can send the sheriff or police to pick you up in cuffs, bring you before the judge, find you in contempt of the Court, and then fine you and/or jail you. I had a friend that just ignored a jury summons, blew it off, and a deputy showed up at her job and put cuffs on her and took her to the Court. She got hit with a $1500 fine and they held her in a holding cell for 6 hours before they let her go. The judge was so angry because this was a high profile trial and she held up the whole process. Maybe people used to be able to duck out of jury duty but where I live they use your driver’s license # and they can find you. For real.

Brad Pitt was just about to be called into the jury room when — hold the phone! — the lawyers in the case he was to be a part of announced they might have a plea agreement.

We found him! As we reported Pitt did leave on a private jet last night and went back to Los Angeles. The Boots Girls heard he may be appearing in court soon for jury duty.

TMZ just reported that Brad Pitt is due in court in an hour.

#130: no, he wasn’t caught drinking and driving. Somebody was and it’s up to Mr. Pitt and the other jurors to decide if the guy is guilty or not (or if they’ll let the guy go free or go to jail).

Every American (even the President) has to serve jury duty when they are called to do so. To refuse is not acceptable but you can be excused if you have a really good reason (like if you’re really really sick and contagious… LOL).

Actors generally don’t work an entire 14 hour day. Often they sit in their trailer for much of that time. Many of them bring their kids to the set because they can see them when they aren’t on camera. Angie could have a day where she works 14 hours and then the next she sits in the trailer and does maybe an hour of work. Stand ins generally stand in (for the A listers and often B list actors) for lighting adjustments, sound and light checks etc. Her kids are probably on set with her and she is having the special time with Z that she and Brad arrange to have with each child, each day.

Notice the difference in the US article, PEOPLE article, and the TMZ report. Remember all the different versions of the meeting at the GG between Brad, Angelina and the Cox-Arquettes that sprung up on the internet and in the tabs. Keep that in mind. If this strange woman did indeed approach Brad as reported by US, Court staff are trained to quickly move in and stop any interactions with jurors, who have been instructed to not talk to anyone other than court staff and as authorized by the Court. Keep that in mind. I’m sure that Court staff were very near Brad in anticipation of such possible interaction with a juror, and IF this did happen quickly moved him to a private room. Poor Brad, can’t even sit and read in peace IF this did happen.

Are you familiar with the American legal system and jury duty in particular? Well if you’re not, this is a very short synopsis:

Jury duty is considered a civic responsibility which everybody is obligated to participate in. People are usually picked for the jury pool from voter registration lists. Once you are called for service, you can request an exemption (for qualified occupations or handicaps), or an extension. If for some reason they determine you are exempt from jury duty (physical/mental handicap or certain essential occupations) you won’t get called again. If you get an extension, it means they will call you back at a later time. They usually won’t give you more than three extensions in a row, meaning sooner or later you’ll have to serve. If you are not exempt and don’t get an extension and you refuse anyway, you’ll be held in contempt of court and could find yourself sitting in jail. There is always the possibility that you won’t get selected once you are called down, in which case you’re off the hook for that date. But you could get called again months or years later. If you do get stuck on a jury, just hope it isn’t some high-profile case that drags on for months like the OJ trial. Jury service like that can really disrupt your whole life.

guli - Hello there! Just wanted to say that I have to agree with you - I love that he always goes that extra mile (pardon the pun) to look after his woman and children. I think Chicago is approx a 2-3 hour flight from LA. If he has no more obligations, he might be back as soon as tonight. Chicago is a great city. I visited it a few times. I would love to go back.

Leave Z alone she is a beautiful child and will be a gorgeous woman. She doesn’t take good pictures, but her beauty is evident when the paps take and publish a picture of her smiling. The media is responsible for causing some of these negative reactions. Shortly after Angie adopted her I saw quite a few pictures of smiling and happy. Later all the pictures published were of her with a blank stare or looking cranky and uncute. I went to another Angelina Jolie fansite and saw a number of pictures of Z smiling and laughing that I had never seen before. It was obvious that they were taken the same time as some of the published blank stare or cranky pictures, because she was wearing the same clothes and they were in the same spot. They chose to publish the bad ones. No parent would take a bunch of pictures of their child and show everyone the ones with the child crying or with eyes closed or showing no emotion AND put the picts of their child smiling in a drawer. But the paps have done just that. And of course people post a bunch of negative remarks about this beautiful little girl because of that.

Henry Klum is a cutie too, especially when he smiles. I’ve seen quite a few picts of other celebrity kids who never smile and who aren’t cute, but I don’t see the negative remarks about them as I see about Z and Henry. But of course they have paler skin and blonde or red hair, so I guess that automtically makes them cute or least not deserving of ridicule.

No wonder Z doesn’t like the paps. They don’t like her and she knows it.

The Chosen One in Chicago!
Angelina Jolie arrived holding the Chosen One to resume work on Wanted in Chicago but only after celebrating Maddox’s 6th birthday at the weekend dressed in camouflage with matching face paint. I saw that preview the other night. You know what? I am getting tired of this toying around with Carter, and what is her name and her ex-husband. Does she love Carter? Does she love her ex. The Power That Be (TPTB) flipped the script on us. They know that most of us want Carter and Ally together but due to the ratings being so good for the show the decided to go a different route for a while.

Also, did you see last season finale? If you didn’t there was a lot that happen that affects this season. Carter and Ally actually was together and they were expecting a child together. What no one knew was that Henry had create a parallel universe and the two universe collide and the only way to put things right was for Carter to back in time and so far. When all this happen everyone but Carter and Henry lost all those memories and some. So, season two picked up there and as you know Henry wiped Carter’s memory of everything that happen because he was suffering because he remember everything he had lost. The only person to remember what happen is Henry and the way it looks he is still working on something to try and bring back Kim (I think that was her name).

As for Carter he still feels something because there a things that jogs him memory — only he doesn’t know why.

I hope that brings you up to speed.

They’ve already been vindicated if you ask me - they just keep living and loving and doing their thing while a maelstrom swirls around them that can’t touch them - because they don’t LET IT!

He did say his part. He said he was unhappy in the relationship and his life was going nowhere. At age 40, he re-evaluated his lack of accomplishments and he decided to move on. The problem at this point is that if you did not hear him, you chose not to. Not Brad’s fault in my opinion.

I feel sorry for the guys cause even in magazines, they can’t escape being compared to Brad. I love how the tabs spin their, “Brad is jealous of X with __ guy, and then a few weeks/months later when they’re broken up, it’s all quiet”. I also love the tabs polls of “Will Brad and Angie stay together” cause they had a similar poll last year summer only this time it was “Who will stay together longer? Brad/Angie or X/VV”, and we all know how that one ended up.

Reading these trolls comments about wonderful, little, innocent kids reminded me of something we always hear about in the news and can not believe any mother could ever do such a thing.
You know how we hear on regular basis of an infant or babies found dead or barely living thrown into dumpsters.
God forbid if any of these trolls posting today have kids I could just imagine them thinking “oops this one is not cute enough, nope this is not perfect or worse yet this one has a deformality, oh well we’ll get rid of this one, maybe the next one will be perfect and beautiful”

Sorry trolls if this offends you, but from your posts today and in the past (I remember vividly what was said about my son when he had an accident) I can really imagine you being so heartless and cruel. I believe the things they post here are a fraction of what they post elsewhere, esp. at FF… I remember many long posts about the kids, discussing why don’t they walk, why they don’t have reactions… they’re taking their hate on these innocent kids.

What about the baby Kidman miscarried? Since Cruise clearly couldnt be the father,he claim he was sterile who was? Had Kidman decided to leave Cruise because she was no longer willing to pretend to believe in the tenets of Cruises faith, Scientology?

After 3 long days of sitting on the jury bench all cooped up with strangers in court Brad cannot wait to get to Angie. The 2 1/2 hours flight from LA to Chicage felt like an eternity.. He know he could sleep in LA and get on the plane the next day but he wants to see her now…no..he has to see HER NOW!! The need is soo overwhelming that he is choking on it.

I am a huge New York Giants fan, after all New York is my hometown :), but I do like the New England Patriots and now that I live in San Diego, I follow the Chargers as well, but the Giants will always be my favorite team.
