OlderSelma Blair is Dazed and Confused

On favoring roles that skirt the edges: “I know my strengths and I know what I give, and I do lend either a certain gravity to things or an over-the-top lightness. I’m kind of at extremes when I do something really well.”
On what she wants from the movie business: “There was a time when I would brush things off and I was so self-deprecating, like, “Oh, it’s such a tiny role no one will pay attention. But now, I’m just grateful to have them and I hope I get more because I’m a character actress. You know… I don’t bleach my teeth, I chain-smoke, I’m flat-chested, I don’t mind being nude, I’m not precious, I’m pale as a ghost, I have crow’s feet, and I believe I can play anybody. So to get to start to do that has been incredible.”
On owing her evolution to the directors she’s worked with: “All the directors I’ve worked with have been amazing. With John Waters, it was really interesting making his voice, and you hear it and you can’t get it out of your head. that’s why I think his movies have the same kind of rhythm and the same flatness, because were all just playing John.”
On the cruel criticism: “I remember filming the first ‘Hellboy’ in Prague and I was so lonely. I Ended up rooting around on the internet. I looked at some comments that people had written and I had no idea that I was so disliked! And you know, that becomes your consciousness. I told [director] Guillermo [del Toro] what I’d done and he said, ‘You might as well go lick the bottom of a toilet seat bowl, because that’s as much good as it’s going to do you.’”
On her love for Angelina Jolie: “Speaking of poise… I Was watching Angelina Jolie the other night on TV. Ann Curry was interviewing her. And Jolie has turned out to be such a poised woman. She has really lived so many lifetimes in front of the press. It’s really something. she’s obviously so accomplished. I can’t even bear to watch because she is just too perfect. I hope I can have that kind of poise at some point.”

I like her, always have, a good actress, not mainstream but that’s ok. Totally part of the appeal that you can’t just go to the big cineplexes to catch her latest movies (apart from “Hellboy” obviously, since she was a lead and it was her biggest mainstream movie to date that most people remember)>

Shes gorgeous, beautiful smile, and the hairs really edgy, whoever maybe she should stop chain smoking cause its going to catch up one day
I’ve always thought she had an interesting look, but her hairline is quite unusual. It begins quite low on her forehead.
I’m not familiar with her work other than a few small roles. What has she done to merit this type of magazine exposure?
selma is gorgeous and cool as hell. she’s also the most underused comedic actress in hollywood. remember her in cruel intentions and legally blonde? she’s effin funny.
#19, I happen to love spinach. I just do not see what the fuss over Angelina is about. She’s anorexic, with mostly failing movies, and she has done nothing more for humanitarian causes than anyone else has done who isn’t famous, yet she gets so much credit. She’s a bad mother. why should I like her?
I think its great that selma seems to be so grounded. She’s finally found her niche in hollywood and has realized that she’s a character actress not a leading lady. I personally think she’s got a great sense of humor.

Speaking of AJ, she truly doesn’t need such exposure. It’s not her
fault that paps chase her around the world. She got it bad because of OTHER people’s bad merger and bad divorce. As it always happens,
the truth surfaces sooner or later!

to back-stab and make Jolie look guilty for HER OWN faliures???!!

OMG. How is AJ a bad mother?! Please elaborate! Her LIFE DECISIONS
revolve around those kids. Please quit reading the tabloids, they
LIE (or stop lying to yourself, it’s not healthy).
She doesn’t love Shiloh, thats why she’s a bad mother. Also she refers to her other children, who are adopted, as orphans, even though they now have parents and a home. That proves that she adopted them for the wrong reasons, not out of love.
