Wow I love it…both versions are good. The same lyrics can be used for different styles of music. Mandy has a wonderful voice and I think her music sells just fine. It’s a different demographic.

Mandy Moore can’t sing and I have heard wayyyyyyyy better covers of this song. Check out Jon West on youtube his is beatuful and well sung.

I really liked the version she did. But Mandy what said disturbed me, “I’m not a big Top 40s type of listener but you just can’t deny how melodic this song is.” Her music is top 40 and her last album she covered top 40 songs. Mandy needs to stop being fake about her music and she needs to start being confident in what she says. She is a really great singer and she has all the resources available to sell albums, but her lack of confidence in her creative abilities is the reason she is where she is - not selling albums.

It was nice to hear another version and I liked it, but … I felt like I was watching American Idol. I think she’s capable of doing better. I like the soft approach, but this was a little too bland.

She’s discussing current top 40, not oldies. Coverage was all oldies, 50’s, 70’s, etc. If you can’t see a difference between old pop and current pop, you don’t know music at all.

I really like this cover. It has more soul acoustic. The Rihanna dancing in a leotard behind her kind of kills it. It’s really a beautiful lyrical song and the style of the original makes it into a candy pop R&B song and makes it much more shallow sounding than it really is.

now i realise how beautiful this song really is! rihannas voice and the more studio-fabricated sound of her version created the impression that it’s too much about disco-style beat.

I must admit Mandy’s cover was very touching and i just never realised how beautiful this song is. I think the fabricated commercial club sound didn’t do it for me.

Ya Mandy did a really good job on it but the one on the hills is sung by Mary Digby which i like a lil better than the Mandy one but ya the one on the hills wasn’t Mandy.

I think Mandy Moore has matured into such an incredible artist. Her new album is one of my favourite albums ever - I haven’t stopped listening to it since I bought it. Who would have guessed she could take a song I despise and make it into something I really enjoyed?

If you’re interested in hearing ‘Wild Hope,’ you should definitely check it out. Find her performance on “Gardenia” on youtube - she cries and it’s the most amazing performance I’ve ever seen.

Hell yeah! At first I was like this isn’t going to sound too good. But this is MUCH better than Rihanna singing it. Mandy has a really nice voice that matured over the years. That annoying “bubble gum pop” sound she had, didn’t like it!

this rendition is better than any of the songs on Mandy’s own albmum wild hope.

She should just cover other people songs instead of making her own music. that has proven to work for her. Wild Hope has yet to even match the sells of Coverage (which basically was just an album full of cover songs)

I really understood how beautiful and loving the lyrics were without the somewhat harsh rhythm that Rhianna’s version has. I love that Mandy seems to portray a completely different message.

I think this is the same stunt that was pulled in the older days to keep African American artist from rising. African American artist like Little Richard and The Temptations all had their songs “covered” or remade by white artist. Ironic how this type of racism is still being done years later. Rihanna’s version represents African American culture from the bass beats to the hip-hop artist featured on it to her dances in the video. Someone above stated, Mandy Moore appears more “classy.” I guess Rihanna was a little to “black” for mainstream music so Mandy Moore had to fix it for America?

This is my favorite version. I could listen to it over and over. I like Rihanna’s version, but I like this one better because it seems more emotional and to take on more meaning. You can hear the words.

It’s pretty obvious why people do covers of that song. The moment I heard a part of I was interested because it had something good, it also had too much of the hip hop culture infused into it through it’s rear *******.
As far as originality goes, a song that yells “‘ella, ‘ella, ‘e, ‘e” through half it’s chorus isn’t particularly original anyway, is it.
I can’t tell how much of Rihanna’s voice is studio edited, and in that sense this sounds way better, because it gave soul to a PRODUCT of the hip hop culture.
That said…if you took Jay-z out of the song, toned down the beat a little and just cut her out where she can’t find words to sing, it’d be a close match in quality =) in my, humble opinion, of course =)
