Mandy Moore takes a stab a covering “Umbrella,” originally performed by R&B songstress Rihanna.

Mandy explained why she chose to cover this song: “This was one of my favorite songs of the moment. I’m not a big Top 40s type of listener but you just can’t deny how melodic this song is.”

This was made as an R&B song and some pop princess stole it, and then went on to insult top 40 saying how she didn’t care for it? Hello, top 40 is where her fan is base. Get a clue!

P.S. I don’t like Rhianna.

This is my favorite version. I could listen to it over and over. I like Rihanna’s version, but I like this one better because it seems more emotional and to take on more meaning. You can hear the words.

It’s pretty obvious why people do covers of that song. The moment I heard a part of I was interested because it had something good, it also had too much of the hip hop culture infused into it through it’s rear *******.
As far as originality goes, a song that yells “‘ella, ‘ella, ‘e, ‘e” through half it’s chorus isn’t particularly original anyway, is it.
I can’t tell how much of Rihanna’s voice is studio edited, and in that sense this sounds way better, because it gave soul to a PRODUCT of the hip hop culture.
That said…if you took Jay-z out of the song, toned down the beat a little and just cut her out where she can’t find words to sing, it’d be a close match in quality =) in my, humble opinion, of course =)

Is mandy really serious? What has gotten into her? I get that she’s trying to make it sound romantic or sad or gloomy or meaningful or something. But when I listen to it. It’s just plain wrong. The song itself is pointless. Why make another version?!? It’s pathetic!
