Matt Damon: Bourne Trumps Bond
Matt Damon joins picture perfect wife Luciana Barroso at the UK premiere of The Bourne Ultimatum at London’s Odeon Leicester Square on Wednesday.
And the difference between James Bond and Jason Bourne?
“Bond is an imperialist and a misogynist who kills people and laughs about it, and drinks Martinis and cracks jokes,” he told reporters. “Bourne is a serial monogamist whose girlfriend is dead and he does nothing but think about her.”
Added Damon, “The Bourne franchise is not about wearing Prada suits and looking at women coming out of the sea with bikinis on. It’s about essence and truth, not frippery and surface.”
FYI: The Bourne Ultimatum earned $32.9 million in its second weekend, for a total of $131.6 million. It has already earned more than the total US take for the first film of the trilogy, The Bourne Identity.

He is my new bond, I love his comment about being a serial monogamist.

Love them.
She is so delicate and he is so cool. Great couple !
what a great couple they make. Luciana looks gorgeous. Yeah I agree that Bourne is making Bond seem a little passe even if it is with Daniel Craig
IT IS GREAT THAT MATT AND LUCIANA CAME TOGETHER TO THE PREMIERE OF

LOVE MATT DAMON.
He has turned into such a hottie lately.
He’s a great actor and i love the Bourne series, i do hope that they turn them into a franchise like Bond has.
And yea, totally Bourne all the way!
He would kill Bond in a second.
Congrats to Matt on all of the success, and he and Lucy look gorgeous together!
PLEASE JARED KEEP US UPDATED ON MATT! Thanks!
love them! Luciana is GORGEOUS!
Well I think she is very beautiful. I don’t find her average at all. And Matt is handsome. Wonderful couple.
I though Damon had a pug face, but next to his wife he looks downright beautiful. Seriously, she’s not a looker but she seems like a decent person.
great couple - beautiful people!!
absoluteley gorgeous! loving the dress and he is just dashing. and the movie wasnt bad either. in fact it was freaking awsome!! :-)
OMG matt u need glasses. you wife is awful! what the hell were u thinking when u married her????
Matt’s cool. I like him.
oh snap! Bourne is talking smack..
I think Matt loves her boobs, that’s the reason why he married her. He looks as if he suffers from constipation. What kind of constipation, I don’t know… Perhaps he needs some more Bourne… or he is bored enough
I have nothing against Matt Damon who seems to be a very down to earth guy and a very decent actor. But I have problems with his disparaging remarks about the character James Bond, just so he could promote this movie and the character Jason Bourne.
To quote
“Bond is an imperialist and a misogynist who kills people and laughs about it, and drinks Martinis and cracks jokes,” he told reporters. “Bourne is a serial monogamist whose girlfriend is dead and he does nothing but think about her.”
Added Damon, “The Bourne franchise is not about wearing Prada suits and looking at women coming out of the sea with bikinis on. It’s about essence and truth, not frippery and surface.”
I find his observations off the mark. Bond and Bourne are two different characters with distinct and different personality and views of their jobs. Bond never quite laughs about killing people, he simply go about it because it is his job. A read of Casino Royale would reveal a very good quote; one is simply doing what is ones told, or something like that. He can’t be with one woman only, because he has a very dangerous job. But when he was with one, for eg Vesper Lynd, he didn’t get her killed like Bourne, she killed herself as a sacrifice for him. He doesn’t always wear Prada, and you can’t expect him to wear jeans and t-shirts in a big casino. That is so underdressed and inappropriate. Bourne movies are about his identity and therefore the essence and truth. But Bond movies are beyond that; they flourish during the time when people wanted fantasy and some still do. Poor countries who had no means to travel could watch a Bond film and see the world albeit not very accurately represented. They present an exotic view of the world, a fantasy that men could dream of and women could imagine. They’re simply meant to entertain and even Casino Royale, however revamped retained the original essence of earlier Bond films which made it so interesting. To remark that Bond films and especially the character James Bond as somewhat a dinosaur of his time is highly inappropriate. In times of state emergency, especially in today’s world where a man such a Bond is even more relevant than ever, I would rather have a patriotic unemotional cold and cool agent doing the government’s dirty work so as to safeguard the queen and country rather than an amnesiac former agent who had a momentary lapse of conscience and who mourns for his dead lover above all else. Touching but not effective.
Mr Damon, leave Bond alone. Bourne is his own man, so is Bond. There is simply no similarities between these two characters and the movies except they are about two agents, two spies and that’s that.
I myself am not a fan of the older Bond films, I cringe at Roger Moore’s sexual innuendos in his movies and I simply hated Die Another Day. But I thoroughly enjoyed Casino Royale and the film style was straight forward and therefore easy on the eyes. I never quite liked Bourne movies, not the first, not the second and due to the exceedingly mad camera work in the third, I didn’t like it either. And I couldn’t connect with Bourne. I feel I feel more for Bond’s one single torture scene than Bourne’s entire 3 movies. So for every praise there is a criticism, and despite the critics giving it ten thumbs up and kept saying it thumps Bond in every aspect, it is satisfying to remember that Bond films have survived a few decades with many actors taking over the same character and still is as iconic as ever. Bourne only had 3 and I wonder are there any out there who wants to be Jason Bourne rather than James Bond?
However if this Bond movie ever had a themesong, I am sure it is better than the Bond movie’s themesong.
Correction. the last line I meant if this BOURNE movie ever had a themesong, not Bond movie.
I prefer Bourne to Bond. I think the three movies with Damon are really, really good. Good writing, good filming, good casting, good acting. I hope they make more of them.
I love Matt he’s so handsome and great actor. He’s wife is pretty and lately she’s been looking great in the red carpet. She’s very fortunate to be married to Matt. God bless them!
SF:
I agree with you for the most part. Damon is right in the sense that the Bourne movies are about essence and truth. This is because the truth is unknown to Bourne and this is why the Bourne movies are intriguing–we want to know who he is and be entertained by his search. In contrast, Bond is fully aware of who he is and what he does–he enjoys being an assassin. You’re right that the Bond movies were made for the purpose of fantasy. The Bond movies (and Mr. & Mrs. Smith with Jolie and Pitt for that fact) glorified the idea of being an assassin whereas the Bourne movies question the ethics of the profession.
However….I don’t think Damon meant to come off as condescending to the Bond movies. I think he’s simply making a comparison. I liked the Bourne movies as well as the Bond movies but in very different ways.
I like his devotion to her and their children. You can tell he is very LOYAL to her. That’s what I find sexy about him..like I used to about Brad Pitt.
You are looking at next year’s cover of the Sexiest man alive. The fans
like to see a handsome, successful and decent man who is devoted to his
wife.
