Angelina Jolie is armed and fully loaded as she films new stunts on the hood of a red hot Dodge Viper on the Chicago set of action thriller Wantedon Wednesday.

OM Gosh, Its really looking bad , winds at 150 mph, predicting a almost direct hit to Jamaica, I am now worrying for peggy, cmar and Mszlil and everyone else . Where’s the best shelter on an island ?

There is no shelter Jamaica is a 3rd world country the poorest people have houses made of wood and zinc roofs. I have seen horrible poverty down there.

Hi BAMPZS fans around the world…………..thank you all for your kind words, prayers and support. CoalHQ, Sheri, Alexanderina, and everyone else posting from yesterday, my heartfelt Thank You!.
But before i go on, i have to say:
my dear Preggy-jolie, i wonder what country you are posting from? How can you state that there is no shelter in Jamaica? Are you kiddin me??? As we speak, those people living in poorly constructed houses and/or those living in flood-prone areas are being evacuated TO SHELTERS…..evacuation began in every one of the 14 parishes from yesterday evening into today and continuing now…….there are some people who want to stay in their own houses til the last minute, in the hope that Dean will vere away and not hit jamaica directly but at this moment there is no such hope that it will vere away so the vulnerable are doing the sensible thing and moving into shelters. In fact, after hurricane Ivan hit in 2004, a law was passed allowing the government to do mandatory evacuation in the event of a disaster like this, based on the experience we had in ‘04 when some misguided people refused to leave their homes, with tragic results.
I live in Kingston, Jamaica. Even as i post i am packing up my home-office because the roof on this side of my home is vulnerable and could blow off. My husband is outdoors battening down the downstairs windows, and my TV is stuck on the weather channel. My nine year-old daughter is nervous and excited, asking a million and one questions and chatting (IM) on her computer with her girlfriend who lives in a flood-prone area and who may have to evacuate this evening.
I am also cooking as i speak because we use an electric stove and the light and power company has already warned that they will be switching off their power lines by tomorrow if the winds are going to be as high as they are now (i:e 150 mph). We do not have a generator but we have a kerosene stove in storage so i guess we may have to resort to that.
I will keep my computer on and logged on to this, my favourite site, until the power goes……that will be sometime tomorrow.
I can tell you this one is hard ,

Oh my goodness! it is now 6:30p. It is still light out but i noticed that suddenly the sky (which was lovely and blue and sunny with a nice cool wind blowing all day) has begun to gather dark clouds!
I was so shocked after i pressed ’send’ on my previous post and dashed into the kitchen, only to look outdoors and see the sky darkening with rain clouds!!! Its so surreal!
I really hope it doesnt start raining tonight. The weather people said Dean wont hit us til tomorrow afternoon!!! It better not!!! Egads….i do believe i am getting nervous.
CMAR, get yourself and your family to shelter fast. Nobody knows how fast this thing is going to move or exactly where it will hit. Good luck. I am praying for you.

Sheri, thanksa lot, luv, but it wont be necessary for us to evacuate. We live in a townhouse complex so we dont anticipate the kind of damage that could come with a detached house.
Moreover, i can tell you, the shelters are going to be so crowded and inconvenient! While i do believe our house will withstand the hurricane winds, i must confess i am nervous about the roof on my home-office. If it blows off, the entire downstairs will be flooded…….and thats my living and dining rooms!
So a lot of things are being put in huge plastic bags and i may have to pull down my computer but i will leave that particular task until the very last minute! damn it!
And re: post 1849 from martinique……… i am so happy for you that the worst is past. It must be so great to have electricity again, huh? For me, thats the worst part after a hurricane…no power or runnng water.
But i refuse to complain because guess what, there are worst things that can happen! can you imagine those earthquake survivors in Peru? I just glimpsed a news item on our local news about the people in Peru begging for food and looting.
Oh god i hope thats not gonna be jamaica on Monday!
