Older‘High School Musical 2′ Makes TV History

High School Musical 2 pulled in a record 17.2 million viewers Friday night, tuning into the premiere of the sequel to the hit 2006 film. It was the most-watched basic cable telecast of all time.
HSM 2 also became the most-watched Friday telecast in more than five years.
According to Variety, “HSM2 tuner now ranks as the most-watched TV movie ever with kids 6-11, drawing 6.1 million viewers in that demo, and the most-watched ever with tweeners 9-14, drawing 5.9 million viewers in that demo, according to Disney Channel.”

THIS MOVIE WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!
me & all my friends had a viewing party last night haha
…..and no, i’m not twelve, im 17 ;]
that movie was SOOOO good !
i loved it.
and good for them , they deserve that many viewers
because the movie was awesome and everybody in the
cast is great .
expecally zac and vanessa . i love them they are
adorable together .
and zac is HOT and v is BEAUTIFUL so they just belong
together .

How exactly do they tell that 17 million people watched? Can the cable company track my cable… even though I don’t have a digital box and I just plug into the wall, into a shared connection for my entire apartment complex??

HSM is okay and all - I mean, I watched it last night - but I so didn’t expect it to pull in that many viewers.
My daughters and I watched it last night and we all LOVED it! I knew that this one would do even better than the first. I really liked the fact that HSM2 featured more of the entire main cast this time around so that they all got to shine and show off their talents. My favorites were of course Troy and Gabriella and the fact that Zac and Vanessa are a real life couple made this movie even more special to me.
I loved this morning!! it was better then 1st…I can’t wait for the 3rd. =]

Amazing movie, Tastful, and classic programs are what should be pulling in these kinds of ratings. Kids are bombarded by so much trash and sexual content on tv. Glad to see that something fun for everyone to watch, has become so big, and has gotten such amazing ratings which were truly deserved.

The cast should ask Disney for a raise. HSM 3 is definitely going to happen and I can see Disney counting all those $$$.
IM 20 AND I LOVED IT!! WE HAVE NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF MONIQUE COLEMAN IS 26 AND SHES IN THE MOVIE. ZAC EFRON IS A HOTTIE…BUT HE MIGHT BE A LITTLE…WELL…YA KNOW!! BUT HIM AND BABY V ARE SO CUTE TOGETHER!!!

The movie was so awesome.
I dont care what the haters say, because they need to get a life (and brain surgery).
But I hated the fact that Vanessa wasn’t in it as much as she deserves to be and when she was in it, it always had to do with Troy.
Rachel just because some of the “haters” don´t like it, doesn´t mean they need to get a life ggeezzz.
I did watched HSM, but its not my thing bbaahh. Although, wouldnt mind getting with zac.
Too bad the movie was so god awful.
You know, I have been hellbent on NOT seeing the HSM movies since day one. But then I watched HSM 2 today and I didn’t *hate* it. It is what it is… a cheesy, fluffy movie for the disney channel crowd. I went in expecting it to be that way, and so it was actually kinda fun to watch. Vanessa is gorgeous and there were 1 or 2 cute songs.
Ooooooooooo WOW did they ever break records!!!! 17.2 Million = Suck it all you jealous people who just come on these websites to criticize!!!! Awwwww that is so AMAZING for the cast/Disney! Good for them, they really deserve all this success!!!

Next time in the theaters. So real money can be made.
I watched it. I haven’t seen the first one, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. It was cute. There was a lot less Vanessa than I expected- she has an inredible voice and was actually a pretty good actress- and a lot more Zac than I found really necessary. Zac is hot and has a good voice, he just got annoying and the Troy character boring pretty quickly. I loved the Ryan character. His baseball song was my favorite guy song.
Vanessa’s legs are short. but she knows how to dress up, and she always looks sooo pretty. she’s my style icon. go shorties!
i havn’t watched the movie but im definitely looking forward to viewing it in hk…when the dvd’s out. im sure it was a great movie, musicals are always great! =)
I loved it! Watched it with my kids and it was great - I knew it would do huge numbers. I think they do that by Neilson Ratings where people sign up to be a Neilson family for a week and then write down everything they watch, but I’m not sure. Next week HSM2 soundtrack will be No. 1 for the rest of the year I bet.
I loved it even more the second time around and we will watch again tonight for the sing-a-long. My favorite song is Bet On It, but that was the only thing I found odd the whole dance routine Zac did to that song, but I just went with it. The chemistry he and baby v have together is just so cute to watch, the fact that they are a real life couple you could see it come shining through when they were together. It was all just great!!
I did hear HSM3 would be made for movie theaters, it will probably focus around them graduating high school and heading off to college. The story will have to grow up with them, so it makes sense they’d go to the theaters and like you said - the box office would be totally off the hook!!!

I absolutely agree with you! They need more shows like this on tv that you can watch as a family and not have the remote in your hand hoping you can switch away quickly when something objectionable or sleazy comes on. Its horrible.

I heard from my niece’s friend that Zac isn’t dating Vanessa anymore, but is instead dating an actress from Hairspray. Anyone else hear this?
I think he and the adorable nikki blonsky ar just good friends…but if they’re more than just friends than more power to them…may they enjoy their love…zak seems to like her a lot i can see…and it seems that he’s the type who can appreciate all sizes and sees what’s inside…
