Brad Pitt Calls New Orleans Green Project a ‘Small Victory’

Brad Pitt stopped by the construction site of his environmentally friendly housing project in New Orleans on Tuesday, calling the enterprise “a small little victory.”

“It’s hard to claim an overall victory when you see how slowly it’s still moving,” Pitt tells PEOPLE of the housing project, which is slated for completion next year, built in cooperation with Global Green and the Home Depot Foundation. “[Hurricane] Katrina was a man-made disaster. This house here is a man-made solution.”

By this time next year, the five single-family homes and approximately 18 apartments should be able to house up to 23 families - all using green building materials and including energy-saving appliances, dual windows and high-efficiency light bulbs. The building project broke ground last May.

“My family and I are very happy to be back here in this great city. We love it here very much,” said Pitt, who settled in New Orleans with Angelina Jolie and their children earlier this year while he was filming The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

After the disaster, which displaced entire communities, Pitt says: “We knew we couldn’t bring back the families and friends who were lost, bring back the heirlooms and pictures, but maybe, in the process of rebuilding, we could build something smarter to create a better way of life.”

Of the housing project Pitt said, “There will be a family living in here a year from now, and this is a home that treats them with dignity, with respect, that is conscious of their quality of life.”

He sounds very happy and content with fatherhood. Just like Matt Damon, I think these guys are really enjoying having kids and a family to go home to at the end of a day. His face speaks volumes about his happiness, he doesn’t even need to say a word.

It’s so incredibly exciting to see how passionate and incredibly sexy he is as he talks about something he truly cares about. I love that thin t-shirt he’s wearing, leaves not much to the imagination….just the way I like it.

Can’t wait to see the whole BAMPZS clan together in NOLA.

4 Q I agree with you. Most government officals, and others are sitting on their asses waiting for the mother ship to come and bring them something. I do believe local citizens were on the board. I remember seeing pictures and reading articles. No someone is doing something and here they come out of the woodwork with their negative comments. The design losers are saying their designs were better. Sounds like sour grapes to me. I honestly believe once people see how much money they can save on electric, water and heating they will start to appreciate the houses. Also once the project is finished and trees are planted and sidwalks are in it will look better. Those old shotguns houses were not energy efficient. Everyone can ***** and complain. Few will step up to the plate and try to help. Now those who want to bash Angie and Brad have a new topic. But I bet they/he will receive more praise from enlighted and informed people. And also from those residents who will be lucky enough to receive a money, and energy saving house than those who want to find fault. Hell if people don’t like it, sell/give me one. During the winter when your heating bill is cut by 75% they will sing the praises of this modern design. If you don’t do anything you don’t hear complaints, but you don’t receive praise either. Take a risk and sure as hell you will recieve both. I am glad he took the risk. He will be blessed. He is blessed. Peace.

They have both said how much they like NOLA. They can be there for days and no sighting of them until they emerge like Brad did today. Happy for them whenever they can have some peace and quiet in their lives.

Great news that Brad has other plans for NOLA. Also must thank Home Depot Foundation for their assistance with this project. These efforts in NOLA can serve as a model to be reproduced elsewhere.

I love how Brad looks when he has on his hard hat. He really seems to be in his element. Maybe he should be a building contractor. - Bringing good to others because they are at peace with themselves and so enamoured with each other that it releases all the strenght and positive energy so that they invest and get involved in projects that contribute to add to the personal all around fulfillment path they have been taken for the last 2 and a half years.

Just look at how POSITIVELY PRODUCTIVE they have been in a very short period of times in EVERY ASPECT OF THEIR LIFE ! Many of which takes a decade to accomplish. Their love and faith for each other has create that powerful intensity they use in every aspect of their life. they are PERFECTLY MATCHED, PERFECTLY IN TUNE when it comes to FULFILLMENT and are ALWAYS jointly committed to them in terms of support or shared values.

ROTFLMAO. Oooohhhh….this may call for a PT Tabloid Special Report….

I’ll have to read it first, though, and then decide. These rags use headlines to grab the reader and then the story is a big dud. Like the Star rag that proclaimed “Brad & Angie’s Menage a Trois!” or whatever the hell it said. And then you read the dumb story and it’s just about a rumor that’s going around that can’t possibly be true and why it can’t be true. I mean really…what a waste of 5 minutes. So…I’m not holding my breath that OK calls X on her patheticness or her continued third-wheeling of the Coquettes. Who cares if they like having her around. I’m sick of seeing her with them. For someone who claimed to have such a large cadre of female friends…how come nobody but Court can stand her ass anymore? Dang…Shiloh even FROWNS like Brad! The likeness is just uncanny. I showed the photos from the last weekend to someone at work today because someone sent her some celebrity childhood photos and there was a picture of Angie at about 6 or 7. She was saying that Shiloh looks just like Angie…so I sent her one of the photos where they’re leaving the boat and Brad is holding Shiloh and her face is turned to the camera - so their heads are side-by-side and the resemblence just jumps off the screen. After seeing that photo she doesn’t think Shiloh is all Angie anymore!

Actually it was big but just not as spoken about by tabloids as much. OR Brad himself for that matter. He campaigned 4 Stemcell research; was one of Oprahs Angels, Nelson Mandela Ambassador and was in the process of working with Bono re: ONE campaign and DATA before he met ANGELINA.

Brad Pitt is doing a great job helping the Katrina victims & people are already on his back? Can’t they be more positive towards him & Ange, they are such good people, doing their best to help. It’s not for photo opportunity, it’s coming from his heart, to give back to the community of New Orleans.

Brad Pitt wants to help rebuild New Orleans one green house at a time. The actor, who has been involved with the Global Green USA project, sat down with NBC’s Ann Curry to talk about his passion for the environment and his adopted hometown. Read on for excerpts from the interview, set to air this Wednesday and Thursday on Today.

On why he got involved with Global Green USA:
“Little steps like this– I’m proud of it because it helps create a dialogue. It brings more knowledge and puts in– puts these ideas into practice. There’s a lot of people doing it, and we’re happy to be a part of it.”

On making the New Orleans re-build eco-friendly:
“The first thing that gets sacrificed in affordable housing is lights, ventilation. You see here we got great light. There’s windows everywhere. There is this great breeze coming in…And I think, for the family that’s going to be here, especially being a father, that it’s got to feel good to know that he’s giving his family a better way of life. That he’s able to contribute that way. Not only that, this house does not poison the environment.”

On the conversation that cemented his opinion that New Orleans should be rebuilt:
“I know a lot of the people here. I care very much for the area. I met a 60 year old man who…said [to me], ‘I did everything right. I got a job. I bought a home. I raised my kids in that home. They did the same. Now…we’re all split apart and we’ve been wiped out…What do I do?’ And he’s right…that’s unacceptable. So any debate on ’should we rebuild, should we not’ — I’ll take you on.”

On the lessons of Katrina:
“It’s a justice issue. What we saw [with] Katrina is that there is a portion of our society that’s being overlooked. And so, in the aftermath, we’re not going to be able to bring back the friends and family that are lost. We’re not going to be able to bring back their heirlooms and their photographs. But maybe, this is a question we presented, maybe we can provide a better way of life. Maybe we can find some good out of this. And that has to deal with justice and fairness.”

On eventually eliminating America’s energy bills:
“The idea that we pay utility bills is absolutely unnecessary…There’s the sun. It’s right there to be harnessed. You feel the breeze that’s been created here. And we got water right out there. Any one of these can be harnessed…It’s simple. It’s smart. It’s the way we have to be thinking. There’s a lot of problems in the world right now because of our dependency on oil.”

Curry: Why do you think you worked together so well? Because I’m telling you, I’m watching the movie, it just seems you’re comfortable with each other in your roles.

Jolie: We did work together surprisingly well, more than I thought we would, because I didn’t know before we met if we would actually work together really well, and we had a great time.

A few months ago there was a story about how Jennifer Aniston had cocktails with Shiloh or something after running into her and Brad at a restaurant. Shockingly enough, it didn’t happen. Jennifer Aniston’s has denied it all. He also denies an interview Jen reportedly had with Look Magazine where she said she was going to be visiting Paul Sculfor a lot in London.

No one is criticising Johny Depp’s or BBT’s dress. That’s who they are. Brad has alays been known for his hats and facial hair. Exactly. The purpose of the morning shows is to inform, not to be hard-hitting investigative journlism pieces. The celebs are there to promote a project. They’re not there to get the third degree or defend their lives. After what happened with Tom Cruise and Matt Lauer you can bet your ass that celebs are more cautious than ever about how much they reveal about themselves. They sure aren’t going to spill the beans while America is sipping their morning coffee and eating Egg McMuffins.

Also, as fawning as I find Ann Curry - just remember the interview Diane Sawyer did with Angie last December when she was promoting TGS. I would much rather see AC take 10 minutes to finally ask her simple question than to see DS asking stupid stuff like, “What the difference between kissing Brad and kissing Matt?” THAT was just beyond stupid.

St. Joseph seeks premiere of new Jesse James movie

St. Joseph tourism officials want Warner Bros. to premiere its new Jesse James movie in the Missouri community where the outlaw was killed.

And the St. Joseph Convention and Visitors Bureau is petitioning the movie moguls in hopes of making it happen.

“Please bring Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck to Northwest Missouri,” says the bureau’s petition online, where anyone can sign it. “This is where the history behind your movie took place and we feel it is an absolutely appropriate location for a premiere screening.”

So far, no go.

“It started as a joke,” said bureau spokeswoman Beth Conway. “We were discussing ways we could get attention from the studio in showcasing the film. But it’s been difficult to get to the powers that be.”

“The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford,” starring Springfield native Brad Pitt as Jesse James, is to be released next month.

Conway said a Kansas City-based publicity agent for Warner Bros. told her the movie would premiere in coming weeks at film festivals in Italy and Canada. The movie was filmed in Canada — after bids by St. Joseph were turned away.

“One reason we feel we may have lost the film production to Canada is … the limited tax credits the state currently offers to productions,” Conway said.

She said her agency was pushing for legislation pending in the current special session of the Missouri General Assembly to raise the state’s annual cap on tax credits for filmmakers to $4.5 million from the current $1.5 million.

Warner Bros. officials confirmed Tuesday that the film would open Sept. 2 at the Venice Film Festival and in New York City on Sept. 18. Other U.S. premieres are set for Sept. 21 in Los Angeles and Austin, Texas. A company spokesman declined to respond to questions related to the petition effort in St. Joseph.

James was born in Kearney and was shot to death from behind in 1882 inside his St. Joseph home, which still stands on its original site at 1318 Lafayette St., where the outlaw with a price on his head had been hiding out.

St. Joseph has spun Jesse James and the town’s other Wild West attractions into the slogan: “Where the Pony Express Began and Jesse James Ended.”

Can anyone figure out why ST. as in St. John, or St. Joseph as in the town mentioned in post#301 will never print on Just Jared? It always comes out as two asterisks. I have even e-mailed Jared but no response.

Hey guys………….im going off wearily to bed now but just had to pop into JJ’s to let all you wonderful BAMPZS fans know that Jamaica survived hurricane Dean more intact than not. Tragically, 2 people died as a result of the hurricane and about 8 were injured ………… some for doing really ‘unsmart’ things like going onto their roof in the middle of the hurricane to effect repairs.

Our neighborhood got back our tap water by Monday and large portions of the capital city (Kingston) got back our electricity today so im back online and I couldn’t let the day pass without saying a big THANK YOU to people like: Sheri, CoalHQ, Missouri fan, Alexanderina, myassiegirl, Mzslil, Hiya, Malaya, guli, NYLurker, truth, ntt, Julia, Kearnie, The real lou, curly, jill and everyone lese who held us in your thoughts and prayers throughout our ordeal. Which reminds me: there’s a J-P fan who goes by the moniker: GOD BLESS THE JOLIE-PITTS and who fills her post with about 6 to 8 lines of the same sentence! Remember when he and Angie first got together? Haters were saying that he was going to turn into a “humanitarian”.
