Brad Pitt’s Interview With Ann Curry
Brad Pitt and NBC News’ Ann Curry chat up his efforts to bring green design (eco-friendly building and development) to Katrina-devasted city of New Orleans. Brad, who owns a home with Angelina Jolie in the French Quarter of New Orleans, continually offers support to green building in the region.
“It’s about dignity,” Brad said during his exclusive interview. “You look around, the first thing that gets sacrificed in affordable housing is lights, ventilation. You see here we got great light. There’s windows everywhere.”
While sowing the green affordable housing, Brad added, “There is this great breeze coming in they’re here. All– all the materials here are nontoxic. And I think, for the family that’s going to be here, especially being a father that it’s got to feel good to know that he’s giving his family a better way of life.”
Brad’s interview with Today airs this morning and Thursday morning @ 7-10AM ET/PT on NBC.

BRAD PITT INTERVIEW
By: Ann Curry
BRAD PITT: It’s about dignity. You look around, the first thing that gets sacrificed in affordable housing is lights, ventilation. You see here we got great light. There’s windows everywhere. (Showing the green affordable housing)
There is this great breeze coming in they’re here. All– all the materials here are nontoxic. And I think, for the family that’s going to be here, especially being a father that it’s got to feel good to know that he’s giving his family a better way of life.
That he’s able to contribute that way. Not only that, this house does not poison the environment. It’s respectful to the– to the people who will be here after. It’s very simple. There’s not, you know, most of the building strategy here is– is using techniques that have been around a long time….There’s very little new technology in here…. It’s just, you know, making us be aware of it. Teaching ourselves. And implementing it.
ANN CURRY:
Two things come to mind. First– as a man who makes movies, who has a wealthy life, to speak about what a father, who does not have those things, is able to give his children.
BRAD PITT:
Well, again, I think it’s–
ANN CURRY:
It says something about–
BRAD PITT:
It’s a justice issue. You know– I mean what we saw Katrina is that there is a portion of our society that’s being overlooked. And– and so– in the aftermath, we’re not going to be able to bring back the friends and family that are lost.
We’re not going to be able to bring back their heirlooms and their photographs. But maybe, this is a question we presented, maybe we can provide a better way of life. Maybe we can find some good out of this. And that has to deal with justice and fairness. And– and what I think this place proves is that this technology, that this healthier way of life, this better way of life, is applicable to all economic levels.
ANN CURRY:
When you say justice and fairness, what you’re saying is that everyone, no matter what their income level, deserves an opportunity to have a healthy life.
BRAD PITT:
Absolutely.
ANN CURRY:
Deserves an opportunity to have a place where their children can grow up healthy and happy…
BRAD PITT:
Absolutely.
ANN CURRY:
…with sunlight, and outdoor space.
BRAD PITT:
That’s right. And they don’t have to be subjected to the bottom end of materials. Materials that– that are developed for profit. And we’re becoming more and more aware of these materials. And I think we’ll see a big movement away from that, and– and to a healthier– healthy materials as this house….
You see that FEMA trailer over there. It’s ripe with formaldehyde. That trailer that people are having to stay in is poisoning them, even as we speak.
*****
BRAD PITT:
I think it’ll be a big topic in the upcoming elections.
ANN CURRY:
Has it been enough of a topic?
BRAD PITT:
No, it hasn’t been enough. No, it hasn’t been enough.
ANN CURRY:
What makes you believe it will be?
BRAD PITT:
But we’ll be forced to. We’ll be forced to. And, as you see, we’re reading more and we’re learning more, and more is coming out. I mean, and I think this’ll be a big topic.
*****
BRAD PITT:
You know, this talk about the money that’s– that’s needed now to make this right. And– I just want to point out, there was $80 billion in damages from Katrina. A hundred and fifty if you count lost revenue. And that could have all been avoided with a little attention to– to the situation here. And this is an important city. It’s important to us culturally.
It’s also an important city to us economically. What remaining oil that– our– 30 percent of our oil is– comes through New Orleans. That we– as we make this shift away from oil, we’re going to rely more and more on.
And there is this responsibility to correct that. And– my– my worry is that it’s just– we’re setting up people here. This doesn’t get attended to, we’re going to set people up here for another disaster, if not a bigger disaster. So I– I see a great responsibility.
ANN CURRY:
You sound like you’re speaking not just to somebody who’s coming from the outside, looking, as you have before last year, I remember talking to you about this. And you’re coming in and you’re looking at it and saying, “This is not right.” It sounds like you’re now speaking as a New Orleans resident.
BRAD PITT:
I know a lot of the people here. I care very much for the area. I met a 60 year old man who– when I first arrived here to look into this. And– he said, “I– I did everything right. I got a job. I bought a home. I raised my kids in that home. They did the same. Now my kids are– well, one kid’s in Atlanta, another one’s in Houston. We’re all split apart and– and we’ve been wiped out.”…
ANN CURRY:
Because of the storm…
BRAD PITT:
…”What do I do? What do I do?” And he’s right. And that’s unacceptable. So any debate on– on should we rebuild, should we not—I’ll take you on.
ANN CURRY:
‘Cause you’re looking at that guy’s face.
BRAD PITT:
That’s right. That’s right.
ANN CURRY:
He deserved better.
BRAD PITT:
That’s right.
*****
ANN CURRY:
I’m going to read you a quote. Brad, last year, you said, “If done properly, we can completely get rid of the idea of an energy bill. It’s not that difficult.”
BRAD PITT:
Yeah, I mean that’s the goal. The idea that we pay utility bills is absolutely unnecessary. And I mean there’s the sun. It’s right there to be harnessed. You feel the breeze that’s been created here. And we got water right out there.
Any one of these can be harnessed. And we can integrate ourselves into that ecosystem. And not only power our houses, but actually produce energy for other parts of the city. So that was the goal here. This particular house is– the family that will live here will save 75 on their– an energy bill. Which is a huge saving for any of us.
But especially dealing with affordable housing. And, it’s something I’m very proud of. I consider it a breakthrough. Also, 50 percent on your water bills.
ANN CURRY:
That’s a big deal to you, why?
BRAD PITT:
It’s a big deal.
ANN CURRY:
Why? Why do you care so much?
BRAD PITT:
Because it’s simple. It’s smart. It’s the way we have to be thinking. There’s a lot of problems in the world right now because of our dependency on oil.
This makes sense. This is the direction we should have been heading in a long time ago.
And so little steps like this– I’m proud of it because it helps create a dialogue. It brings more knowledge and puts in– puts these ideas into practice. There’s a lot of people doing it, and we’re happy to be a part of it.

I think Brad and Angelina are soulmates. The attraction and chemistry between them is so palatable, it’s like fire. When you see what kind of life Angelina was living when she met Brad, can you not see why he went gaga over her? A woman with such a purpose in life, he saw her mothering skills close up and he was probably starstuck at her beauty upclose. Angelina was a total contrast to what he had around him in his life at the time. Angelina was probably surprised that she fell hard for Brad. In her interviews she hinted that she fought falling for him and called it everything but that. She mentioned that the whole world knew before she did, the chemistry was just that obvious. I think she still can’t believe it. she found someone who was on the same page as her in regards to love, life, career, parenting, etc….Tis a beautiful thing.
Brad and children visited Angie on the set
223 Sandisk
There goes that lie about BP not visiting the set. Those stalker girls couldn’t find their way out of a wet paper bag. It is a shame that people make their living selling lies. It is a shame that AJ was so kind to stop and give them a picture and they make a lie around it. Oh well, People have to live with themselves. A check from a tab only goes so far and you are back out their prostituting yourself once again. Peace to all.
Oh Brad, where do I even begin?
I watched your “interview” with Ann curry on the “Today” show this morning and it was difficult to understand what message you’re trying to get across. Your “noble” attempts at saving the world are too muddled to make sense with anything you do. Funny, you didn’t do too much until you met a woman who uses her position as a UN Goodwill Ambassador (or whatever the hell she is)strictly for her own personal gain. Seems to me you saw it as a great opportunity to get all the free press you can in order to promote yourself, but that’s actually beside the pont. What exactly are you trying to do? I know you want to help all the poor children of the world, but you need more focus. New Orleans just seems like a little project you’re taking on. We all know where you’ve been, and you haven’t been THERE. You buy a house and wastte energy to keep it livable for whenever you choose to return. That’s not very green of you. You take up a hobby that wastes more fuel and energy and pollutes the environment more than anyone who just enjoys a Sunday drive…flying your own airplane and taking all those lessons aren’t very green to me. What a waste. You’re just all over the place, and spreading yourself too thin only makes you appear insincere and flaky. Too bad you had to take up with a self-promoting bleep. I thought you knew better than that. The American public is very aware of the sincerity of do-gooders. Unfortunately, you aren’t on the radar. Most of us pay attention to what you do, and your lack of true passion is amazing. This is why we don’t support you or your movies. I’m sorry to say but I think the “Pitt-iful” box office perfomance of “A Mighty Heart” should be a true indicator to you and Angelina and what the public truly thinks about you.
EVERYONE, Please don’t believe any of the breakup or trouble in paradise rumors. Just use your common sense and blow them away. You can all see how grounded and down to earth the Jolie Pitts are. You can see the pictures for yourselves. If they are not smiling or what not, it’s because they are like us….humans, they are!! Don’t believe the tabloids. The only reliable source is… “People Magazine”. This is the only tabloid magazine that I will buy now even if there is no picture or article about the Jolie Pitts. All the other tab magazines just wants your money anyway they can get them!! They have succeeded in fooling readers for so long. So, wake up and in the process you will save a bunch of money. :-)
One hour in a private jet is equal to one year’s fuel in your car.
Info all over the net. Look it up yourself lazy.
All you losers that claim You don’t like Brad, why the hell do you yammer on and on about everything he does?
Most people that don’t like someone just avoid reading about them.
You are obsessed clearly with him.
If I could fly on a private jet I would and so would almost everyone that post on these threads. And most people with large families also use SUV’s.

oh please! the booth girls are about as reliable as my cat!, they claimed brad did not leave the hotel for days, lie, he filmed a commercial for 4 days, they claimed the children were with angie when she picked up brad, lie, look at the photos and refer to their original account of their dinner date LMAO, but whatever.

I was just at the Boots Girls page and they’ve still got their original post up. So…I left them the message below…
I think it’s awfully fortuitous that people who have a known connection with InTouch magazine are changing their story AFTER Brad & Angie have left town. When they were in Chicago you did your utmost to smile in her face and make her notice you. Now that shs’e gone you’re dogging their relationship just like your sometime employers.
It’s also interesting that your change of tune comes not to long after it was announced that InTouch has lost several staffers of late to the Star magazine. Methinks someone is angling for a full-time job as a professional liar for the gossip rags.
If that idiot Bill Zwecker at the Sun-Times never managed to dig up any dirt…and God knows he sure tried hard enough…then I highly doubt that two stalkers were able to do so. Nice try, though.
* You are clearly obsessed with Him.
pt great response, I left one too. But one thing we can be sure of …..they will not be posted!

If anyone gets nominated for Jesse James will be Casey Affleck.

If true, then why in the hell are you stupid trolls going on and on about Brad & Angie only staying together because Brad’s pushing for an Oscar? You twits are so stupid you negate your own arguments!
Re Danny #228 : Your post reveal much of what is lacking in the cultural evolution of this great country . You seem to castigate the efforts of Brad Pitt for responding to the suffering of the Katrina community . You seem to be deriding the ecological focus of the housing project .His partner , AJ is a UN ambassador among other humanitarian commitments . The tone and content of your post reveals that you don’t have an appreciation for any thing hving to do with humanitarianism . Just because one is trying to help out in some way does not mean they have to give up or give out everything in their life . I’m sure when yu go to church (he he) you probably do not give everyting in your wallet to the offering plate .But you probably give $1 . And as far as AMH acceptance in this country . Get real . This is by far one on the most culturally ignorant of most civilized countries . Most people in this country not only know nothing about their own geographical locations , history , and goverment , but they would have no understanding or appreciation for situatons involving another culture . In this country cartoons get more support than movies of any substance . Your lack of support is understood and expected given what you have to work with .

They don’t work for In touch, one of them works for the Chicago Tribune.

Wrong…both have admitted to freelancing for OuttaTouch.
Oh Danny Boy,
Where do you begin? Obviously…in the sewer!! Not everybody can be perfect like you. I bet you think you are, don’t ya! Check out your pitiful self first before you start throwing stones.:-) Brad Pitt is doing something. How about you? You are over here obsessing like you are someone better. You are nothing but a whiner!!!
Thanks, Jared, for the new thread about Brad and how he is helping in New Orleans. I liked the interview and am looking forward to the rest tomorrow. The August 13 Time magazine edition is mostly about New Orleans and is a very good read. Here is a link to what the managing editor wrote.

Brad has done a lot to help keep the focus on NO rebuilding process. This current admistration is spending all the nation budget on the war in Iraq. That leave very little for rebuilding, thoes government issued toxic trailer are wrong. I’m not worring about Angie and Brad pirvate relationship and all the gossip that follows them.
They’re done. From now on, it’s all about keeping up appearances…till after the Oscars season.
Please leave them alone. I keep trying to believe the best in people and I continue to be disappointed. Brad and Angie are a famly. If you have a family you know that things don’t always go as planned and especially with kids. Stop trying to break them up and start supporting them trying to make a happy family and life better for others. Don’t look for the bad things you will feel much better about yourselves.
Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

there is no hope for these losers who park themsleves on the Jolie-Pitt threads wishing and hoping for a break-up. Because They are so unhappy and unfulfilled themselves it pains them to see two People who clearly have it all.. No worries, the last laugh is on them…

ROTFLMAO! Damn…I posted the same thing at their blog before I ever saw this cover. It’s so obvious they’re angling for more permanent jobs with their sometime employer. I’m sure the mass exodus of staffers to Star has given them hope of being able to fill in their income tax return profession as “Professional Liar”.
