Miss South Carolina, Lauren Caitlin Upton, gave the FUNNIEST response during last night’s Miss Teen USA pageant!!!!
Host Mario Lopez stood by as she was asked, “Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate the U.S. on a world map. Why do you think this is?”
Miss South Carolina answered, “I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uhmmm, some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and uh, I believe that our, I, education like such as uh, South Africa, and uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uhhh, our education over here in the US should help the US, uh, should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for us.”

You want her parents to sue someone ELSE for her being a total moron?? You are missing completely who was to blame for that display of “Mommy thinks I am pretty, so that’s all that matters”.
Why are you bitching about the question? It was a simple, easy question. “More money for schools. More pay for teachers. Better education for masses.” Anything like that would have passed. She was nowhere NEAR the topic (what did SOUTH AFRICA and Irag have to do with the question???), and my money is that she can’t find the US herself, so her idiocy overwhelmed her.
How can you defend such total stupidity? Shouldn’t her parents sue themselves for allowing this moron on national TV, instead of being at home READING A BOOK??? Looking at a map? Doing remedial math?
The girl will be dancing on a pole in Myrtle Beach as soon as she finishes flunking out of community college.

That same question, if posed to my 8 year old nephew, will most likely elicit an answer like: “they have not taught that in school”, rather than go into a convoluted answer like Miss So. Carolina’s.

Wow, that was…odd. Poor kid I think she was nervous with that question BUT she should have been prepared, taken a deep breath, stayed on topic and stated a complete sentence in which made sense. She didn’t represent herself or her state very well.

It certainly seems that she was caught off guard with this question. However, anyone with an ounce of sense could effectively bluff their way through it if they didn’t have a thoughtful answer. What she said made absolutely no sense whatsoever. I can only imagine that after the event Miss South Carolina was cringing with embarrassment, although possibly not as much as me when I watched that video.

honestly - that doesn’t say as much about our culture as it does about her parents and the loony people who inhabit the Pageant subculture. Show dogs, cats, your children - it’s not slightly weird, it’s effing ridiculous. Although I wonder if a show dog might be able to pick out the US on a map faster than she could.
