OlderAngelina Jolie Visits Iraq
UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie traveled to Iraq and Syria to see first-hand the humanitarian needs there — the plight of hundreds of thousands of families uprooted by the ongoing conflict in Iraq.
According to UNHCR, “Yesterday in Damascus (Syria), Jolie visited a UNHCR registration center and spent hours talking to Iraqi refugees in their homes. Today, she crossed into Iraq to visit 1,200 refugees trapped in a makeshift camp at the border, unable to flee Iraq, and later watched scores of Iraqis crossing into Syria at a border checkpoint.”
“I have come to Syria and Iraq to help draw attention to this humanitarian crisis and to urge governments to increase their support for UNHCR and its partners,” Angelina said. “My sole purpose in both countries is to highlight the plight of those uprooted by the war in Iraq.”
After talking with stranded refugees at Iraq’s Al Waleed camp on Tuesday, Angie said: “it is absolutely essential that the ongoing debate about Iraq’s future includes plans for addressing the enormous humanitarian consequences these people face.”
While in Iraq, Jolie also took the time to privately visit US troops and other Multi-National Forces based in the area.

It is really interesting how THE SAME people keep on bitchin’ on Jolie’s work. It has just proven on what they write, they are just real ignorant people. It is a pity how AJ’s gestures and mission pisses them off. No other eason, just because she is famous and can’t fanthom that she continually posess that energy and time to extend her help when needed. There is just a sense of emptiness inside these people and suddenly possessed by hate and irrationality (which is what evil enjoy). They are PART of the reason why the world is not at peace.
They want to be like Jolie but has no capacity to be one ‘coz they always end up as a victim of their own existance.
I am glad that AJ and other members of UNHCR are in that part of the war zone ‘coz it now has gotten worse. Athough US government tried to hinder UN from helping the Iraqis, UNHCR never stopped fighting for these people. One day they knew US will crack up. Look at what happened, US gov’t gave $30M after realizing the effect of the war they started. And, they know UNHCR can take care of this growing problem.
AJ is perfect as an ambassador for this organization. Just like her life, people will try to put her down and mock her but she keeps on marching until she fulfills the mission of her heart.
Whether one is popular or not, may we all strive to be the best we can be and look at the BRIGHT side of the very well intention. The end justifies the means. We all have the same inner strength as Jolie although they are destined for many different purposes.
For all the fans, you are all very smart and totally understand what is important. AJ reflects a lot of aspects in our lives. For us it’s to know that the world is vulnerable to hate and know the effect of it. We read vile comments in this thread and I myself just shake my head ‘coz these lonely haters just don’t get it. This littlest thread we have kinda represent that. Thank God! its only a blog and no one gets killed or can it?

Angelina is a great actress, wonderful mom, terrific UNHCR ambassador, fantastic partner and wonderful person. She may not however be a liberal. Who says she is — not AJ. Her dad isn’t — he’s a right-winger and very, very pro-war with Islam. AJ is known to admire Clint Eastwood ” a personal hero of mine,” Winston Churchill, Ayn Rand and other conservatives. Don’t jump to conclusions about others without first-hand information.

Yes, Iraq is a war zone and very dangerous but not to UNHCR visitors like Ms. Jolie.
These people have an escort, are protected by troops with guns. They hop in and out of places, say a few words and off they are again. So what’s so brave about Ms Jolies doing?
Besides we don’t need Ms Jolie telling us what’s going on there. We know it. We can read the press and watch the media. besides there are several organizations there to help. Nobody ever talks about these really brave people who spend weeks and months there, giving real support to these people.
Not just people like Ms Jolie who swaps her Lagerfeld handbag for baggy pants for a few seconds and convince herself that she is doing something good - and only convincing herself because people who really know what’s going on don’t give a damn what little a somewhat notorious actress has to say.

What a remarkable humanitarian . How can you not love such a courageous woman ? Just when I thought she’s having a good rest from the Hamptons dinner. Makes me dizzy just thinking about her activities and I’m a stay home Mom.
Right now , I wouldn’t go to Iraq for a trillion dollars.
Angelina is such an amazing person, she cares about human suffering and tragedies and whats unfolding in Iraq is the biggest human tragedy caused by Bush and his cronies.
