OlderAngelina Jolie Highlights Humanitarian Crisis
UNHCR goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie listens to one elderly refugee’s story at the makeshift Al Waleed camp inside Iraq on Tuesday. This woman is just one of some 1,300 trapped unable to leave the country for neighboring Syria.
Angie has worked with UNHCR since early 2001. In May, a foundation set up by Angie and Brad Pitt, donated $1 million to help those affected by the conflict in Sudan’s Darfur region and neighboring Chad.
UPDATE 1: The Huffington Post reports Angie gain flew commercial with no staff, as she did with Darfur last year. She is stealth! (Head bodyguard Mickey Brett did tag along, though.)
UPDATE 2: OK! Magazine just updated their site with Angelina posting with Lance Corporal Samuel Petersen, 22, of the US Marine Corps.

I was begining to think it was time for her to go on a trip to visit the refugees, she has not been since New Orleans. She always goes while Brad is working on a film. It nice how Brad can take the time to spend with each child. I am sure he is spending time with Shi!
Say what you want about her but she has a huge heart.
It’s so pointless to even try to have any kind of intelligent discussion when so many people are determined to hate simply for the principle of it.
No good deed goes unpunished. Angie throws herself into charitable work and these people act as though she’s committed some crime against humanity. She adopts a few kids and my goodness by the outrage displayed, you’d think she literally kidnapped them fron their parents’ homes in the middle of the night. Where is the perspective? Us fans fawning over ourselves I get, we’re FANS! That’s our hobby, but what what is your excuse for your insanity? (That is rhetorical by the way).
Would Angie be a “better” person if she just sat on her millions and indulged in the excessive lifestyle such wealth offers? Would people be more comfortable if she would just cut a check to these causes, smile occasionally for the cameras during a fundraiser and then go back to her detached, self-indulgent lifestyle where she doesn’t get her hands dirty and really isn’t too involved in the matter? I suppose if she were in and out of rehab or prison that would be just dandy too? (Again, all rhetorical)
Really this hate is inescapeable although the intensity varies on different sites. Wow, Angie really does a number on you guys. You must just s*** a brick when day after day, this woman, who not too many years ago was the poster child for Hollyweird, does something to defy your ability to define her. Yeah, you’re saying “Oh, I know just how to define that …” but do you really? can you truly capture the essence of each aspect of her personality? Sure, there’s the siren, the sexpot, the eccentric - that’s the most obvious, the Hollywood image - but perhaps, just perhaps, if you weren’t so blinded by your hate you might actually see someone who’s just trying to live a decent life the best that she can and use her good fortune to help others.
True, she doesn’t play by anyone’s rules but the rules are usually double standards anyway. I say go for it - Angie! So why do you really hate her? Is this resentment because you don’t have the guts to go out there and live a bold life? Is this because Brad CHOSE to engage life fully and not to settle for simply passing through half-heartedly? If her humanitarian efforts ring false to you then that’s your opinion but get involved yourself. Stop wasting time here, bring attention to others in the field who don’t have the benefit (or the curse) of celebrity status. Start in your local area - I volunteer with the local Red Cross, which along with my job saves my mind from becoming mush from all the crap on these sites. Since you’ve got so much to say about Angie’s latest mission, learn about the organizations helping Iraqi refugees and learn how to help. Instead of criticizing those trying to solve the problem, help with the solution.
Anyway, I don’t want any responses to the questions I posed in this post, they were all rhetorical - besides, I’m going to bed, I actually have a job and a life. But I realize that Angie will never do anything “right” in many people’s eyes. No matter what she does - pursues her career, stays home for the kids, works for the UN - someone will always cry foul. The second she looks to “us” for approval, she’s ruined. As long as she follows her own compass, my Angie will be alright.
I admire her greatly. Yes, she’s flawed, absolutely flawed - but that makes her efforts all the more admirable. She’s not one to get bogged down in regret. She learns the lesson from her mistakes and moves forward. I like that, I like that alot.
As fans, I think we get too caught up fighting a battle that not even Angie deems worthy of acknowledging - at least not publicly. Not that it’s easy to ignore but this daily fight just takes away from the limited view of their world that we have. It seems to be the only joy they get in their lives and I refuse to give them another moment. So, I just come here no to view the pics and to drop an occasional comment on the pics themselves. I choose to keep my Angie experience as positive as possible.

She is sooo lovin all the PR she can get for causes, another benefit for shackin up with Brad.
Do you think that due to her recent change in appearence, all the mags are not calling like they were in the past for a photoshoot so now she has hired Jens PR and he said “go for the war it will tug at the heart strings” Lets hope she gains weight again so she can do the mag covers again and not have to risk her life only to sell out.
Angelina Jolie visits refugees in Iraq

GENEVA - Angelina Jolie visited Iraq on Tuesday to meet with refugees and U.S. troops in the country.

Jolie, who is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, made the visit during a two-day trip to the region, the U.N. refugee agency said Tuesday.
The statement said the 32-year-old actress met with displaced Iraqis in neighboring Syria on Monday before crossing into Iraq for a few hours Tuesday “to see firsthand the plight of hundreds of thousands of families uprooted by the ongoing conflict.”
“I have come to Syria and Iraq to help draw attention to this humanitarian crisis and to urge governments to increase their support for UNHCR and its partners,” the Geneva-based agency quoted Jolie as saying.
Jolie traveled to the Al-Waleed refugee camp on the Iraqi side of the border and spoke to some of the 1,200 Iraqis living there before visiting a contingent of U.S. troops in the area, the agency said.
UNHCR spokeswoman Astrid Van Genderen Stort said the trip had been organized weeks in advance at Jolie’s request.
Jolie has worked with UNHCR since early 2001. In May, a foundation set up by Jolie and her partner, Brad Pitt, donated $1 million to help those affected by the conflict in Sudan’s Darfur region and neighboring Chad.
The U.N. refugee agency estimates that more than 4.2 million Iraqis have left their homes — most of them since the 2003 U.S.-led invasion to topple Saddam Hussein. Of these, about 2 million have fled to neighboring countries including Syria, Jordan, Egypt and Lebanon.
According to UNHCR, thousands of Iraqis continue to stream into Syria every day, placing a heavy strain on the country’s housing, health care and education sectors.
Last month the agency and UNICEF launched an appeal for nearly $130 million to help provide education to displaced Iraqi children across the Middle East. The U.S. said Tuesday it would contribute $30 million to the appeal.

I think civilians should not be allowed to go into Iraq. It is way too volatile and dangerous. What the hell in wrong with our government allowing this. THERE IS A WAR GOING ON OVER THERE! THERE IS A WAR GOING ON OVER THERE! There have been dozens of reporters who have lost their lives over there. Keep civilians out of there.

Angie is the real deal, people! I, as one of her million fans, am proud of being her fan. She is a magnificent woman. She is inspiring me to be a better person and to do more to make the world a bit better.
I can’t take her seriously. If she won’t make peace with her biological father who has professed his love for her then I find her fluff and a fake.

Abby, I could be wrong here but I believe for many of the haters Angelina upsets there ‘worldview’ that a sexual adventurist, a wild child, a hollywood actress can also be thoughtful, maternal, humanistic, among other things. Personaly i don’t see it as a great leap. It isn’t unusual that things that are supposed weaknesses are also strengths. Or if you will, as Angelina believes, that which nourishes also destroys. Her spiritualiy and belief system seems to be very Bhudist in nature. We’re Christians for the most part and the only duality we recognise is good or bad.

What is her relationship with her father got to do with her humanitarian work? She’s out there doing something good for less fortunate people and what about you? Have you done somenthing?
I want an honest answer to these questions:
Angelina Jolie travels over there on a 2 day PR stint.
Tell me exactly what is going to change for those people, after she brings awareness to their cause? To whom is she bringing awareness to? The government of Syria? The government of Iraq? You don’t think they already know?
So exactly WHAT will change for these refugees after being visited by ‘Our lady of Perpetual Adoptions and Charity’, Angelina Jolie for one or two days?
Anyone?? Did she bring food, water, clothing, medical supplies, to any of these refugees?
oh well, she was there for about 2.5 seconds in Iraq, and managed to get her face in OK! and People magazine. Yes, those same publications that pay her money for pictures of her and her family.

Most people are aware there is a war in Iraq. However, AJ is NOT trying to bring your attention to the war, she is bringing your attention to the refugees – which many people are actually unaware of.
Given I just saw a report that said 15% of Americans were unable to locate America on a world map, I would think many Americans are totally unaware of the refugee situation in other countries.

A s s wipe……………..go and google the concept: “public awareness”. Thats a big part of Angie’s mandate as a UN ambassador for refugees.
While the so-called governments of countries where there are refugees are often highly aware of the state of the refugee problem and dont or cant do anything about it, the people of those countries are often unaware of the scope of the problem. And, most importantly, the WORLD COMMUNITY OF HUMAN BEINGS (that would exclude you, of course) are completely ignorant about it or have completely forgotten about it. Her task is to remind you ADDs and others who are very busy with their own lives, that these people need help.
The UN and related agencies (red cross, etc) have the responsibility of feeding and clothing the refugees amd providing temporary housing solutions. To continue doing this, they need a CONSTANT FLOW OF MONEY from both private and public entities of every country of the world.
When, thru Angie’s visits and the accompanying publicity, ordinary people become apprised of the situation, the conscientious among us dig as deep into our pockets as we can afford, and give to the UN and related agencies.
The record shows, that EVERY TIME that Angie does on of her visits, MONEY FLOWS to the UN to help the refugees. She just rolls like dat. Everything she touches turns to gold because she is BLESSED!

How do you think you’d feel? Don’t worry you’ll be safe, plenty of soldiers around. But still, how do you think you’ll feel. I’ll bet the word, ‘excited’ will have a whole new meaning to you.
