Angelina Jolie Highlights Humanitarian Crisis

UNHCR goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie listens to one elderly refugee’s story at the makeshift Al Waleed camp inside Iraq on Tuesday. This woman is just one of some 1,300 trapped unable to leave the country for neighboring Syria.

Angie has worked with UNHCR since early 2001. In May, a foundation set up by Angie and Brad Pitt, donated $1 million to help those affected by the conflict in Sudan’s Darfur region and neighboring Chad.

UPDATE 1: The Huffington Post reports Angie gain flew commercial with no staff, as she did with Darfur last year. She is stealth! (Head bodyguard Mickey Brett did tag along, though.)

UPDATE 2: OK! Magazine just updated their site with Angelina posting with Lance Corporal Samuel Petersen, 22, of the US Marine Corps.

Please do something constructive and write your congressman. tell them we need to protect the Iraqi refugees, particularly the ones that helped Americans
**********************************************

It is absolutely despicable the way the Bush administration is treating the Iraqi refugees who helped our troops. These people risked their homes and their lives to assist us and now we are turning our backs on them.

an along with the bodyguard came a photog to capture all that preciousness, the spokesHO!

ummmm, no tita- you said why don’t you go visit family in Iraq. You did NOT say “go work for a NGO”. Don’t lie when it is already put out there by YOU.

It’s a dam shame that some stupid “comedic” actress kept postponing having a baby because she was “busy’ with her stupid show.
**********************************************************

It’s a damn shame the stupid comedic half-Greek actress hasn’t said a word in support of the people of Greece who are watching half their country go up in flames, or organized any relief efforts on their behalf, or done anything at all, and this time she doesn’t even have the excuse of her stupid show. But it’s probably too much effort for her to get her a** up off her yoga mat, and besides, she probably figures why should she do anything for them? What did they ever do for her?

sad! some people just think they can change the world, they are so celebrity that they think they are god.

hate it when Hollywood drug junkies try to put out political statements, they don’t care about those poor people in Africa, China, Iraq, etc…Because they don’t care about their own kids.

And what has Aniston done recently to justify her worthless existence? The b*tch doesn’t give a damn for anybody but herself. All she does is take up space that could be more productively occupied by somebody else.

There is a whole NEW THREAD people!

It’s heart wrenching to see people suffer!

ai…so many unfortunate people in this world. This world is a crazy place, because so many freaking, selfish and cold-blooded and yet influential leaders.

At least Angie is trying to bring positivity and humanity in this world.

Mrs. Smith @ 08/28/2007 at 6:50 pm

I know there’s new thread but I must state here that I am so very proud to be a fan of Angie’s. She’s so incredibly inspiring! I love her expressions of such caring and empathy for that woman’s plight. She is just amazing.

Thanks Jared.

sick of the bs @ 08/28/2007 at 6:51 pm

I’m sure those refugees in Syria would love to know that Angelina didn’t vote!!- didn’t even give a f… to vote against Bush and against the war. Seriously can someone please explain the hypocrisy?

Oh my god!!! what all this woman goes through for publicity?
she is so f**king despo for publicity
this just sickens me.
*********************************************

Tell you what, b*tch, you just sicken me. What have YOU done for anyone lately? Until you can answer that question, back the hell off and shut up.

And while you’re at it, you might tell that worthless, lazy, dumbass c*nt X that she’s wasting her time laying on her yoga mat all day long and playing tagalong with the Cox-Arquettes when there are people in the world who need help. That cow doesn’t do a damn thing but breathe other people’s air.

Believe it or not the new thread is worse than this one as far as haters. They seem to go from thread to thread to spread their poison. They seem to be all there now.

200 bdj - It is the first time for me, and I really feel guilty about participating because there is so much to do and I just don’t like to be part of gossip (gossip=ignorance). But I learned about Ms. Jolie’s humanitarian work about two years ago, and feel she is very committed and serious. I am not here as a fan, but as a concientious person who is also committed to social changes. I was able to travel during my college years to places in central america and was shocked/changed by extreme poverty.

I respect Ms. Jolie’s work and she is truly raising awareness of refugee issues and the work of the UN Refugee Agency.

Hey Guli and Estelle,
How are you ladies doing this fine day? I hope you’re having as much fun as I am reading all the whiny comments….please tell me you are?

I have questions for you lovely ladies….

How do you argue with someone who thinks AJ should be utterly useless instead of trying to do something worthwhile with her life?

How do you explain to this person that a child who lives from one hotel room to another with mommy and daddy always nearby is in a better position than a child who has lost limb and watched mommy get blown away right before his eyes?

How do you make this person understand that the worst scenario they can imagine befalling the JP kids is still 1000 times better than what the children refugees in Iraq are going through, That some people would rather have their “roles” stolen than to be natives of Iraq right now.

Finally how do you get it through their thick skull that no matter how much they hate it, AJ is and will always be a respected woman?

I reckon we must start by driving home the point this…..contrary to what they’ve been programmed believe….it IS a very good thing to care about other people.

I know, I know it might take awhile but I say it’s our duty as fans of someone like AJ to enlighten these misguided souls.

#92: gaga! duh brought my post over while I was reading the other posts. What were you doing back there…picking up scraps?

213 OK

I think the haters are embarrassed by X. That shallow, superficial, plastic lump of protoplasm never did a damn thing to justify her existence in this world, and the haters can’t deal with it, so it is easier for them to trash Angelina, so let them have their fun. It doesn’t diminish the good Angelina is doing, and the more they dump on her, the worse they make X look by comparison. But they’re too stupid to realize that.

A Certain Smile @ 08/28/2007 at 7:00 pm

Not voting is having a say. Democracy does not mean you have no say because you do not vote. That is why the politicians have gone to venues that are popular w/ young people to get their support. Of course, morons are not interested in a discussion only hating on a person who is getting off her butt do do something. Every one should be concerned about Iraq. to say only politicians should be and not the average person or a celebrity is contrary to the ideals of a democratic country.

*******************************************************************

You don’t. They want her to be like X, useless, clueless and dumb. They still don’t realize that was one reason why Brad dumped her.

Thank you for posting. We have the juvenile trolls but there are a lot of people here who admire and respect AJ. We exchange links, articles and information. Please come back to visit and post. For the most part, we ignore the juveniles. They are just seeking attention by posting nasty and vile comments. Many of them do not know that there is a big world outside their parent’s basement. Peace to you.

That’s stupid to say that. She doesn’t need anymore publicity.

What an incredible lady! I salute you Angie. You are both beautiful inside and out! I am very touched by your work and concern to all the refugee in the world.

Crystal is pathetic…….she doesn’t understand there are people out there who simply care about the world, about other people and trying to live a more meaningful life.

214 America

welcome to the board. Am pleased to read your posts.

215 African Girl

Many of these people do not know anything about empathy. How do you instill empathy? I am frankly at a loss.

This trip was very dangerous. IRAQ. All I have to say.
I’d never think she did it for “publicity”.
She’s a mom of 4 kids, she wouldn’t take the risk if it was not a really important issue to her.
