Paper bags are fun! @ 09/03/2007 at 6:00 am

There’s a great song by Anna Nalick called ‘paper bag’. It’s a very fitting song for ugly betty and this ‘ad’

Here are the lyrics to the song.

She don’t run from the sun no more
She boxed her shadow and she won
Said, “I can see you laugh through these bottle caps
And this wire around my neck ain’t there for fun

But someday we’ll all be old
And I’ll be so damn beautiful
Meanwhile I’ll hide my head
Here in this paper bag
Cause if I can’t see you then you can’t see me
And it’ll be okay
Fly little bee away
To where there’s no more rain and I can be me”

Yeah, they talk about her
She smiles like she’s so tough
She says, “Hey, can you talk a little louder?
I don’t think my heart is broken enough.

But someday we’ll all be old
And I’ll be so damn beautiful
Meanwhile I’ll hide my head
Here in this paper bag
Cause if I can’t see you then you can’t see me
And it’ll be okay
Fly little bee away
To where there’s no more rain and I can be me”

Some days I wade in the indigo
Singing that song on the radio
I blame these puddles on the rain
You know I gotta keep these cheeks dry today
Gotta keep my cheating strategy
And baby I’m gonna have it made

But someday we’ll all be old
And I’ll be so damn beautiful
So I’ll hide my head
Here in this paper bag
Cause if I can’t see you then you can’t see me
And it’ll be okay
Fly little bee away
To where there’s no more rain and I can be me

And I’ll hide my head
Here in this paper bag
Cause if I can’t see you, then you can’t see me
And it’ll be okay
Fly little bee away
To where there’s no more rain and I can be me

Where I can be me . . . yeah
I can be me
Ohh
Where I can be me

Another proud NZer here. NZ may be a small country but it’s not quantity that matters it’s quality.

That is off the hook funny and clever! Dammit, NZ is a great place!!! Can’t wait to finally move there! Visited once (and what the hell took me so damn long…) and was hooked the moment I stepped into the airport. Was head over luggage by the time I got into the rental car…awww, I miss it now… I usually throw the remote at the TV whenever NZ-holiday ads come on coz I can’t afford a holiday at the mo, and those ads are just teasing me! And living in Melbourne I get to see those ads pretty damn often…

LOL. This ad is so clever. It definitely gets your attention.

oh this makes me proud to be a kiwi lol

Yay-yah…..kiwis in the house lol. Loves it!!

Woot!

Go NZ!

Another Kiwi here…as if you can’t tell.

Go the Kiwis!!!

Cantab here, love my country!!

Awesome ad!!

I don’t understand the hype behind this show. It does not stand for erasing the effects of beauty at all in our society. When young women see this show being celebrated (on the Emmys, for example), they don’t see a young woman with braces and glasses and dorky hair styles. They see a young woman who wears braces and glasses and dorky hair styles AS A COSTUME FOR WORK - and who takes it all off and LO AND BEHOLD, looks just like every other Hollywood actress. The message here is… ugly people wear braces, glasses, and dorky hair styles. If you wear them, you’re ugly. Shed those ugly things and be the swan that is the success of Hollywood. More Californication.. is it any wonder our kids are so messed up on the issue of beauty? Is it any wonder they starve themselves and steal expensive makeup, and have some very low self-esteem issues. When THIS is the standard of “beauty” and “reality”, as it’s touted.. well.. that’s pretty sad.

Also.. I love how people just jumped on the “that’s so good how that show can portray the beauty of a person behind these so-called ugly things, and how it can break down social barriers about our ideas of beauty”.. as if that’s ALL there is to it.. as if that is how girls take it. It’s just a perfect example of how our society will take the easy way out of things, jumping on the quickest way out, whatever removes the guilt from our shoulders. Those are just the words of Hollywood’s prettiest and most special, those who determine who gets the Emmy… those who have no CLUE of what it means to really be called UGLY, physically ugly. Those words did not come from teenagers, or pre-teenagers. Those words do not depict how teenagers view things, or how they percieve the message society puts out there. Just because Hollywood says one thing.. does not mean it shows the same thing, as America Ferrer proved when she showed up to get her numerous Emmys last year, looking for the world like all the other actresses.

IM A NZer yayayay

Take a calm-down pill, Mary, sheesh! This is a photo of an advertisement, not an endorsement of the TV show. If you want to rant somewhere, rant to the makers of the show if you’d like. This is just an example of a clever advert.

IM FROM NZ TOO! yay i go on this site everyday and iv never seen anything from NZ on here! woohoooo this is so cool.. i love ur site by the way jared.. its cool to know someone else LOVES zac and vanessa haha peace out

Another Kiwi here! wow, there’s actually quite a lot of us on JJ.

I shall look out for this ad, I love it!

I agree with Mary..totally agree :)

Ugly people who wear paper bags over their heads, usually cut holes in the front to see where their going. Parents of small ugly children just put the bags over the head and lead them around by hand, but I’ve never seen an adult ugly do it like that.

Don’t watch the show but that’s a great ad!!

I’m a kiwi also.
